Since sperm require high energy levels to perform their specialised function, it is vital that essential nutrients are available for spermatozoa when they develop, capacitate and acquire motility. However, they are vulnerable to a lack of energy and excess amounts of reactive oxygen species, which can impair sperm function, lead to immotility, acrosomal reaction impairment, DNA fragmentation and cell death. This monocentric, randomised, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial investigated the effect of 6 months of supplementation with l ‐carnitine, acetyl‐l ‐carnitine and other micronutrients on sperm quality in 104 subjects with oligo‐ and/or astheno‐ and/or teratozoospermia with or without varicocele. In 94 patients who completed the study, sperm concentration was significantly increased in supplemented patients compared to the placebo (p = .0186). Total sperm count also increased significantly (p = .0117) in the supplemented group as compared to the placebo group. Both, progressive and total motility were higher in supplemented patients (p = .0088 and p = .0120, respectively). Although pregnancy rate was not an endpoint of the study, of the 12 pregnancies that occurred during the follow‐up, 10 were reported in the supplementation group. In general, all these changes were more evident in varicocele patients. In conclusion, supplementation with metabolic and antioxidant compounds could be efficacious when included in strategies to improve fertility.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare the sperm morphology and nuclear sperm quality (sperm aneuploidy and DNA fragmentation) in two groups of globozoospermic patients: DPY19L2‐mutated patients (n = 6) and SPATA16‐mutated patients (n = 2). Results for these two groups were also compared to a group of fertile men (n = 25). Fluorescence in situ hybridisation was performed for chromosomes X, Y and 18. Sperm DNA fragmentation was evaluated by TUNEL assay. Sanger sequencing was performed for mutations screening of DPY19L2 and SPATA16 genes. Sperm analysis revealed a classic phenotype of total globozoospermia in DPY19L2‐mutated group and a particular phenotype characterised by a predominance of double/multiple round‐headed (39.00 ± 4.2%) and multi‐tailed spermatozoa (26.00 ± 16.97%) in SPATA16‐mutated group. FISH analysis showed a significantly higher aneuploidy rate in globozoospermic patients compared to controls (p < 0.05), and a higher rate was observed in SPATA16‐mutated group compared to DPY19L2‐mutated group (p < 0.05). DNA fragmentation index was significantly higher in globozoospermic men compared to controls (p < 0.001), and there is no statistically significant difference between the two globozoospermic groups. We showed that SPATA16 defects could be associated with an abnormal meiosis leading to a particular morphological sperm defect of double/multiple round‐headed and multi‐flagella and a higher sperm aneuploidy rate than in case of DPY19L2‐defects in classic globozoospermia.  相似文献

Successful cryopreservation for human spermatozoa markedly influences the reproductive outcomes of assisted reproductive technologies. But in spite of its usefulness, cryopreservation significantly decreases sperm quality. l ‐carnitine has been found to improve the quality of spermatozoa in selected cases with male infertility. Here, we examined the efficacy of l ‐carnitine in improving sperm motility and vitality and reducing sperm DNA oxidation during cryopreservation. Semen samples from infertile patients (n = 22) were collected and analysed. Cryopreservation medium supplemented with l ‐carnitine was mixed with the semen at a ratio of 1 : 1 (v/v). The final l ‐carnitine concentration in each cryovial was 0.5 mg ml?1 per 5 × 106 cell ml?1. Controls were cryopreserved without addition of l ‐carnitine. After 24 h of cryopreservation, thawed sperm samples were analysed for motility, vitality and DNA oxidation. Sperm vitality was assessed by the eosin–nigrosin test, while sperm DNA oxidation was measured by flow cytometry. Addition of l ‐carnitine significantly improved sperm motility and vitality (< 0.05) compared with the control. The flow cytometry experiment showed no statistical difference (> 0.05) in the levels of DNA oxidation between samples and controls. In conclusion, l ‐carnitine improves human sperm motility and vitality, but has no effect on sperm DNA oxidation after cryopreservation.  相似文献

To investigate the semiquantitative methylation alterations of MLH1 and MSH2 and the possible association among methylation of MLH1 and MSH2, sperm DNA fragmentation and sperm chromatin condensation in idiopathic oligoasthenoteratozoospermic men. Seventy-five idiopathic infertile men and 52 fertile and/or normozoospermic men were included in the study. SDF was analysed using the TUNEL assay in semen samples of 100 men. Promoter methylation of MLH1 and MSH2 genes was assessed by semiquantitative methylight analysis in semen samples of 39 and 40 men respectively. Sperm chromatin condensation was evaluated using aniline blue staining in 114 men. MLH1 promoter methylation was positively correlated with the percentage of aniline blue positive spermatozoa (r = 0.401, p = 0.0188). On the other hand, MSH2 promoter methylation was negatively correlated with sperm concentration and total sperm count (r = −0.421, p = 0.0068 and r = 0.4408, p = 0.009 respectively). The percentage of aniline blue positive spermatozoa in the control group was significantly lower than in the OAT group (p < 0.0001) and negatively correlated with total sperm count (r = −0.683, p < 0.0001), progressive sperm motility (r = −0.628, p < 0.0001), total motility (r = −0.639, p < 0.0001) and normal morphology (r = −0.668, p < 0.0001). Promoter methylation profile of MLH1 and MSH2 genes may play role on sperm DNA packaging and conventional semen parameters respectively.  相似文献

Antioxidants were proved to be efficient to improve the quality of spermatozoa after varicocelectomy. We carried out a systematic review and performed a meta‐analysis to evaluate the efficacy of antioxidant therapy in sperm parameters' quality after varicocelectomy during 3 or 6 months' treatment cycle. During research, randomised controlled trials were searched by MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, and necessary parameters were compared between two groups after varicocelectomy. Finally, six studies including 576 patients were included in our meta‐analysis. As for sperm parameters, significant improvements of sperm concentration (p < .0001), sperm motility (p = .03), progressive sperm motility (p < .00001) and sperm morphology (p < .00001) were existed in antioxidant group 3 months after varicocelectomy. With regard to the 6 months' outcomes, sperm parameters were improved as well except sperm motility (p = .72) and progressive sperm motility (p = .57). Referring to pregnancy rate, no significant difference was existed between two groups (p = .36), and the FSH level of antioxidant group was lower than placebo group 3 or 6 months after varicocelectomy (3 months, p = .02; 6 months, p = .03). In conclusion, compared with the placebo, the antioxidant therapy after varicocelectomy can improve the quality of sperm parameters and construct a favourable living condition for spermatozoa by reducing FSH level.  相似文献

This study aimed to assess the possible correlation between mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) gene expression and sperm DNA damage among infertile patients with and without varicocele. The study included sixty infertile males and fifty fertile males as controls. The infertile group was subdivided into the following subgroups: thirty males with varicocele and thirty males without varicocele. All subjects underwent medical history collection, clinical examination, semen analysis, sperm DNA integrity assessment, mTOR gene expression assessment and scrotal colour Doppler ultrasound. The mean mTOR gene expression in infertile patients with varicocele (23.52 ± 14.65) was significantly higher than that in infertile patients without varicocele (12.24 ± 12.44) and fertile control subjects (3.92 ± 3.26; p = 0.003 and p < 0.001 respectively). In the infertile varicocele‐positive group, mTOR gene expression showed a significant negative correlation with sperm count (p = 0.028, r = ?0.400) and progressive sperm motility (p = 0.038, r = ?0.381), as well as a significant positive correlation with the sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI; p = 0.001, r = 0.578). In the infertile varicocele‐negative group, mTOR gene expression showed a significant negative correlation with progressive sperm motility (p = 0.018, r = ?0.429) and a significant positive correlation with sperm DFI (p < 0.001, r = 0.673). In conclusion, according to these results, there is a significant positive correlation between mTOR gene expression and sperm DFI among infertile patients with and without varicocele.  相似文献

Sperm quality can be affected by different factors including the length of incubation time between sperm preparation and intracytoplasmic sperm injection. Here, we have evaluated the level of DNA methylation and expressions of related genes in mice spermatozoa. The spermatozoa were divided into three groups: fresh, spermatozoa incubated at room temperature (RT) and 37°C for 24 hr. The sperm chromatin structure assay was used to determine the DNA fragmentation index (DFI), and DNA methylation was analysed by flow cytometry. The expression levels of DNA methylation‐related genes were determined by quantitative real‐time PCR (qRT‐PCR). According to the results, we observed significantly higher sperm progressive motility and viability in the group incubated at RT compared to the spermatozoa incubated at 37°C (p < 0.05). Spermatozoa incubated at 37°C had a higher DFI compared to the other groups (p < 0.05), but the DNA methylation level significantly decreased (p < 0.05). qRT‐PCR analysis showed increased Dnmt‐1 expression in spermatozoa after 24‐hr incubation at 37°C. However, there were significantly higher expression levels of Dnmt‐3l, Dnmt‐3a and Dnmt‐3b after incubation at both RT and 37°C compared to the fresh group (p < 0.05). The 24‐hr incubation period affected both sperm DNA methylation and integrity. This study indicated that incubation at RT resulted in better sperm quality.  相似文献

Various nuclear sperm alterations are reported in patients with syndromic teratozoospermia; however, this has not been clearly identified yet in total polymorphic teratozoospermia. The aim of this study was to analyse sperm aneuploidy, DNA integrity and chromatin packaging in 45 infertile patients with total polymorphic teratozoospermia, and to compare obtained results with those collected from 25 fertile men. For 14 patients, the impact of nuclear sperm abnormalities on intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes was analysed. Sperm chromatin condensation was evaluated using aniline blue staining, DNA fragmentation by TUNEL assay and chromosome abnormalities by FISH. The mean DNA fragmentation index was significantly higher in patients compared to controls, weakly and positively correlated to acrosome defects (r = 0.3; p = 0.04) and positively and moderately correlated to microcephalic heads (r = 0.5; p = 0.027). The aniline blue‐reacted spermatozoa rate was also high in comparison with controls, moderately and negatively correlated to progressive motility (r = ?0.6; p = 0.014). Total aneuploidy rate was considerably higher in our patients. A positive and moderate correlation was found between disomy Y rate and acrosome abnormalities (r = 0.5; p = 0.048). These patients had an impaired sperm nuclear quality, which will affect the results in ICSI. Therefore, analysis of sperm chromatin condensation, DNA integrity and aneuploidy in such cases is very useful before ART.  相似文献

There is an ongoing debate on the declining semen quality, and unfortunately, existing evidence is inconclusive and inconsistence. We evaluated the impact of sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle, medical history and work exposure on semen quality. Univariate and multivariate analysis was used to investigate the association between different risk factors and semen quality parameters. Total sperm count (p = 0.041), sperm concentration (p = 0.007), normal morphology (p = 0.002), total motility (p = 0.004) and progressive motility (p = 0.009) decreased in men with varicocele. Sperm concentration increased in tea (p = 0.044); progressive and total motility increased in cola (p = 0.018, p = 0.012) consumers. Progressive and total motility decreased in urogenital surgery (p = 0.016, p = 0.014) and infection (p = 0.037, p = 0.022). However, age, coffee and alcohol drinking, physical activities, sleep duration and cell phone use were unrelated to any of semen parameters. Interestingly, semen volume (p < 0.0001), total sperm count (p < 0.0001) and concentration (p < 0.033) increased with longer abstinence period (>5 days); normal morphology (p = 0.013) improved in men with higher body mass index (BMI > 24), curvilinear velocity (p = 0.042) increased with smoking; semen volume (p = 0.050) increased in manual labourers. This study highlights the importance of sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle, occupational exposure and medical history and provides time trends in semen quality, its clinical importance and direction for further research.  相似文献

Busulfan is an anticancer drug caused variety of adverse effects for patients with cancer. But it could cause damage to the male reproductive system as one of its adverse effects. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of L‐carnitine and L‐arginine on semen quality, oxidative stress parameters and testes cell energy after busulfan treatment. Adult male rats were divided into four groups: control (Con), busulfan (Bus), busulfan plus L‐arginine (Bus + L‐arg) and busulfan plus L‐carnitine (Bus + L‐car). After 28 days, the semen was collected from the epididymis and the testes were assessed. Sperm count, motility and velocity were measured by CASA, and smears were prepared for assessment of sperm morphology. Serum and testes supernatants were separated for DNA metabolites, oxidative stress and cell energy parameters. Testes tissues also subjected for caspase‐3. The results showed significant improvement in sperm morphology, motility, velocity and count in the groups treated with L‐arginine and L‐carnitine and accompanied with an increase in MDA, GSSG and ATP, reduction in GSH, AMP, ADP, NO and 8‐OHDG also recorded. These results are supported by caspase‐3. Conclusions: Administration of L‐arg and L‐car attenuated the cytotoxic effects of busulfan by improving semen parameters, reducing oxidative stress and maintaining cell energy.  相似文献

The effects of aqueous leaf extract of Moringa oleifera (MO) on human sperm functions and integrity was studied in vitro. Semen was obtained by masturbation after 3–5 days' abstinence from 34 healthy donors in Western Cape, South Africa. Liquefied semen was washed in human tubular fluid supplemented with 1% bovine serum albumin (HTF-BSA;1:5) with 10 min centrifugation at 300 g. Sperm suspensions were subsequently incubated with MO extract (0.625, 6.25, 62.5 and 625 µg/ml) for 1 hr, where HTF-BSA served as control. Sperm motility, vitality, DNA fragmentation, reactive oxygen species production, mitochondrial membrane potential, capacitation and acrosome reaction were assessed. Sperm motility, vitality, mitochondrial membrane potential and capacitation remained unchanged (p > .05). A dose-dependent decrease in sperm reactive oxygen species production (p < .0001), DNA fragmentation (p < .0001) and acrosome reaction (p < .001) was observed. An increase in the percentage of non-capacitated sperm (p < .01) was noted at 625 µg/ml. The antioxidant properties of MO actively maintained basic sperm functions, inhibited excess sperm free superoxide production and preserved acrosome reaction and DNA integrity. Further studies are needed to confirm the effect of aqueous MO leaf extract on fertility potential.  相似文献

Considerable debate still exists regarding the effects of cigarette smoking on male fertility. This work aimed to explore effects of cigarette smoking on semen parameters and DNA fragmentation on 95 infertile patients who were divided into infertile male nonsmokers (45) and infertile male smokers (50). Smokers were subdivided according to a number of cigarettes smoked per day into mild (≤10), moderate (11‐20) and heavy smokers (≥21). Semen analysis, sperm chromatin condensation integrity with aniline blue staining and sperm viability were compared between the study groups. A significant decrease has been shown in sperm count (p = .006), progressive motility (= <.001), percentage of normal forms (p = <.001) and viability (p = .002) between infertile nonsmoker and infertile smokers. The percentage of abnormal sperm chromatin condensation was significantly higher in smokers compared to nonsmokers (= <.001). A linear correlation was detected between the extent of cigarette smoking and the degree of worsening in progressive motility (p = .001), total motility (p < .001), viability (p < .001) and normal morphology (p < .001). These results indicate that cigarette smoking has detrimental effects on semen parameters. It negatively affected all conventional semen parameters in addition to sperm chromatin condensation and sperm viability. These abnormalities were also proportional to the number of cigarettes smoked per day and to the duration of smoking.  相似文献

Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) has been demonstrated to be expressed in mature spermatozoa and correlated with sperm quality. Sperm CFTR expression in fertile men is higher than that in infertile men suffering from teratospermia, asthenoteratospermia, asthenospermia and oligospermia, but it is unknown whether CFTR is correlated with sperm parameters when sperm parameters are normal. In this study, 282 healthy and fertile men with normal semen parameters were classified into three age groups, group (I): age group of 20–29 years (98 cases, 27.1 ± 6.2), group (II): age group of 30–39 years (142 cases, 33.7 ± 2.6) and group (III): age group of more than or equal to 40 years (42 cases, 44.1 ± 4.6). Sperm concentration, total count and progressive motility were analysed by computer‐assisted sperm analysis. Sperm morphology was analysed by modified Papanicolaou staining. Sperm CFTR expression was conducted by indirect immunofluorescence staining. There was a significant positive correlation (< 0.001) between CFTR expression and sperm progressive motility (r = 0.221) and normal morphology (r = 0.202), but there were no correlations between sperm CFTR expression and semen volume, sperm concentration, sperm total count as well as male age (P > 0.05). Our findings show that CFTR expression is associated with sperm progressive motility and normal morphology in healthy and fertile men with normal sperm parameters, but not associated with the number of spermatozoa and male age.  相似文献

Intensive sports practice seems to exert negative effects on semen parameters; in order to assess these effects, the objective of this study was to assess semen, including DNA fragmentation, and hormone parameters in elite triathletes. Twelve high‐level triathletes preparing for a National Triathlon Championship participated in the study. The qualitative sperm parameters analysed were volume, sperm count, motility, morphology and DNA fragmentation; when needed, additional testing was performed. Assessed hormones were testosterone (T), cortisol (C) and testosterone–cortisol ratio (T/C). Maximum oxygen consumption and training characteristics were also assessed. Hormonal values and physical semen parameters were within normal ranges. DNA fragmentation showed high values (20.4 ± 6.1%). Round cells in semen were higher than normal (2.8 ± 1.5 million/ml), with the presence of macrophages. Correlations were found for several parameters: concentration of round cells positively correlated with progressive sperm motility (= .01) and sperm morphology (= .02); contrarily, the correlation found with DNA fragmentation was negative (= .04). Sperm DNA fragmentation and the T/C ratio, however, were correlated in a positive manner (= .03). As evidenced by the observed results, sperm DNA fragmentation is affected by high‐level sports practice; therefore, high loads of endurance training could potentially interfere with the athlete's fertility potential.  相似文献

The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a constellation of various risk factors. This study aimed to investigate the effect of MetS on testosterone and progesterone, and semen parameters, in a case‐controlled pilot study. Male patients (n = 54) had body mass index, waist‐to‐hip ratio (WHR) and blood pressure recorded. Blood was analysed for HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose. Saliva was assayed for free testosterone and free progesterone. Ejaculates were analysed for volume, sperm concentration, total sperm count, motility, vitality, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), DNA fragmentation and leucocyte concentration. Participants were divided into the control group (n = 28) and the MetS group (n = 26). Differences were found between the groups for body mass index, WHR, blood pressure, high‐density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides and glucose. The MetS group showed significant reductions in sperm concentration (P = 0.0026), total sperm count (P = 0.0034), total motility (P = 0.0291), sperm vitality (P = 0.002), MMP (P = 0.0039), free testosterone (P = 0.0093) and free progesterone (P = 0.0130), while values for DNA fragmentation increased (P = 0.0287). Results indicate that patients with MetS have compromised sperm parameters in the absence of leucocytospermia. A reduction in free progesterone suggests that steroidogenesis cascades may be compromised. It is hypothesised that a systemic pro‐inflammatory state with oxidative stress associated with MetS may provide a novel explanation.  相似文献

This study aimed to compare main molecular markers of hypoxia (HIF1‐α and P53) and inflammation (TLR‐2, TLR‐4 and TNF‐α) pathways between infertile men with varicocele and fertile individuals. Sperm parameters such as sperm concentration, motility and morphology were assessed according to World Health Organization (Laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen. Geneva, Switzerland, 2010) guideline in 20 infertile men with grade II or III varicocele, and 20 fertile men candidate of family balancing. In addition, sperm DNA fragmentation and molecular markers involved in hypoxia and inflammation pathways were evaluated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labelling (TUNEL) assay and real‐time PCR respectively. Mean of sperm parameters (concentration, motility and morphology) and DNA integrity were significantly lower in infertile men with varicocele compared to fertile individuals. Unlike markers involved in inflammation pathway, mean expression of markers of hypoxia pathway (HIF1‐α and P53) was significantly higher in infertile men with varicocele compared to fertile individuals (p < 0.05), and also a significant correlation was observed between expression of HIF1‐α and P53 (r = 0.461; p = 0.003). Overall, the result of this study suggests higher likelihood of involvement of hypoxia pathway, in comparison with inflammation pathway, in pathogenesis varicocele associated with male infertility.  相似文献

Evidence suggests that disturbing the balance between reactive oxygen species levels and antioxidant contents in seminal plasma leads to oxidative stress resulting in male infertility. This study was carried out to identifying clinical significance of seminal oxidative stress and sperm DNA fragmentation in treatment strategies of male infertility in southwest Iran. Sperm parameters, lipid peroxidation and activity of antioxidant enzymes were assessed in fertile (n = 105) and infertile (n = 112) men. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in seminal plasma were found to be higher significantly (p < .001) in patients. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities in seminal plasma were significantly (p < .001) lower in infertile men. Significant negative correlations were observed between MDA levels and sperm motility and normal morphology. Spermatozoa with fragmented DNA were higher (p < .001) in infertile men and significantly correlated with MDA levels and SOD and GPx activities. MDA of 4.2 nmol/ml, SOD of 4.89 U/ml and GPx of 329.6 mU/ml were optimum cut‐off limits to discriminate infertile patients from fertile men. The results show the leading role of oxidative stress in aetiology of male infertility in southwest Iran and indicate that evaluation of seminal antioxidant status and DNA integrity can be helpful in men attending infertility clinics during fertility assessment.  相似文献

Lately, there is a systematic research consensus that reveals adverse effects of aspirin on semen quality characteristics; however, such consensus is lacking further confirmation by human studies. Therefore, here, we asked whether sperm motility and vitality are affected in the presence of aspirin at 0.1 and 1 mM in the ejaculated semen, and whether such effect may be due to an alteration in seminal calcium ions or seminal nitric oxide production. Forty-three semen samples from different normozoospermic men were recruited in this study. Sperm motility was measured by Makler counting chamber, and sperm vitality was measured by Eosin test. Calcium chelating effect of aspirin and seminal nitric oxide production was measured spectrophotometrically. Aspirin at both tested concentrations significantly (p < .05) reduced progressive grade-a motility and vitality of spermatozoa. Additionally, aspirin was found to have significant ability (p < .05) to bind seminal calcium ions, but insignificantly reduced the amount of seminal nitric oxide. In conclusion, sperm motility and vitality were reduced in the presence of aspirin at 0.1 and 1 mM in semen. Such reduction may be attributable to the ability of aspirin to chelate seminal calcium ions, but not to an alteration in the amount of nitric oxide produced.  相似文献

This study aimed to assess cytochrome (CY) P450‐2D6*4 polymorphism relationship with semen variables in infertile men. In all, 308 men were included; fertile normozoospermia (N) (= 77), asthenozoospermia (A) (= 70), asthenoteratozoospermia (AT) (= 75) and oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT) (= 86). They were subjected to history taking, clinical examination, semen analysis, sperm acrosin activity, seminal malondialdehyde (MDA) and CYP450‐2D6*4 genotyping. CYP450‐2D6*4 wild‐type allele was represented in 76.5% of N, 70% of A, 66.7% of AT and 57.7% of OAT men where homozygous gene mutation was present in 5.9% of N, 20% of A, 26.6% of AT and 26.9% of OAT men, respectively. Sperm acrosin activity, sperm concentration, sperm motility, linear sperm velocity and sperm normal forms were significantly higher, and seminal MDA level was significantly lower in men with CYP450‐2D6*4 wild‐type allele compared with men with homozygous mutation. It is concluded that CYP450‐2D6*4 wild‐type allele has higher frequency where homozygous‐type allele has lower frequency in N men compared with A, AT and OAT men. Sperm acrosin activity index, sperm concentration, sperm motility, linear sperm velocity and sperm normal forms were significantly higher, and seminal MDA level was significantly lower in men with CYP450‐2D6*4 wild‐type allele compared with men with homozygous mutation.  相似文献

The principal aim of this retrospective study was to examine the relationship between sperm apoptotic biomarkers and the patient's biclinical characteristics, the conventional sperm parameters and the results of assisted reproductive technology. Sperm analysis, activated caspases, annexin V staining for phosphatidylserine (PS) externalisation and labelling assay for DNA fragmentation were assessed in 122 males of infertile couples. Fifty‐seven couples were allocated to the natural conception group, and 65 couples underwent IVF or ICSI. Semen of IVF/ICSI patients showed a higher proportion of apoptotic spermatozoa in their spermatozoa when compared with a natural conception group (p < .05). Sperm apoptotic biomarkers correlated with age, FSH, and conventional sperm parameters. DNA fragmentation correlated positively with the percentage of semen having externalised PS (r = .78, p = 0) and activated caspases (r = .71, p = 0). Patients without clinical pregnancy had higher frequency of DNA fragmentation, externalised PS and activated caspases compared to patients with clinical pregnancy (p < .001). The best specificity and greater sensitivity were obtained with the test of the DNA fragmentation compared to the other biomarkers. Among the apoptotic biomarkers, only DNA fragmentation was found to predict natural or assisted pregnancy better than conventional sperm parameters.  相似文献
