Beijing Medical University: Its Past and Present

Beijing Medical University grew out of National Peking Medical School, which was founded on October 26, 1912 (the firstyear of the Republic of China) and was the first national medical school of the nation run by the Chinese goverment on its own.The school was located in Bajiao Liulijing Alley outside Heping (Peace) Gate of the city of Beijing.

Prof. DAI Ruihong was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province in 1930. He attended the medical school of St. John University, Shanghai, in 1949, and obtained the medical degree at Shanghai＇s Second Medical College in 1955. Since then he has been devoted to ,in Huashan Hospital, clinical, teaching as well as research duties in the field of cardiovascular disease, particularly in coronary heart disease （CHD） and myocardial infarction. Prof. DAI has devoted to the integrative traditional Chinese and Western medicinal treatment on CHD and the clinical pharmacology of cardiovascular disease for over 50 years.

Serving health of the human is the only purpose of any school of medical science. Traditional medical science is a summary of ancient medical science and modern medical science is an achievement of latter-day medical science, and both of them need developing, but it is impossible to run parallel with each other, so merging them should be done. Medical science is the natural science, which would be affected by region, nationality and culture that affected social science more greatly. Natural science has differences but not repels each other and not set contradictorily against. What is science？ Science is an inherent rule of development of nature; understanding to it has been always limited unavoidably.
