Health‐related quality of life is an important aspect of migrant workers' overall well‐being and adaptation. The aims of this study were to develop a structural model and test the health‐related quality of life among migrant workers. A cross‐sectional study design was used, and data were collected from 228 migrant workers from China who are currently living in Korea and using the services of free clinics for health issues. The structured questionnaire disseminated for the study was designed to measure health‐related quality of life, health‐promotion behaviors, barriers, resources, and perceptual factors. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses. Health‐promotion behaviors and self‐efficacy have significant positive direct effects on health‐related quality of life, and acculturative stress has a significant negative direct effect on health‐related quality of life. These findings suggest that certain strategies are needed for developing health‐promotion programs aimed at the betterment of migrant workers' health‐related quality of life. Specifically, health‐promotion behaviors and self‐efficacy among migrant workers should be encouraged, and strategies for decreasing their acculturative stress should be formulated.

TOPIC. Concept analysis and self-efficacy. PURPOSE. This article analyzes the concept self-efficacy and its relationship to nursing education using Walker and Avant's methodology. SOURCES. Published literature. CONCLUSION. Nursing literature suggests increasing students' perceived self-efficacy will help to narrow the theory-practice gap. Self-efficacy is a cognitive variable that affects performance behaviors and affective processes. Perceived self-efficacy can be influenced by a direct experience, vicarious experience, or verbal persuasion. Individuals with high levels of self-efficacy demonstrate the defining attributes of confidence, perceived capability, and perseverance.

Maternal self-efficacy is an important factor in parenting behaviors and skills. In order to assess maternal self-efficacy in infant care, a solid measure is needed. The integrity of the assessment of self-efficacy in infant care depends upon whether or not an instrument possesses proper measurement properties. The purpose of this study was to revise the scale items and examine the further psychometric properties of the Self-efficacy in Infant Care Scale. Using a sample of 235 Thai mothers, the revised Scale, with 44 items, was found to have internal consistency and test-retest reliability values of 0.96 and 0.93, respectively. A confirmatory factor analysis supported the hypothesized structure. Also, the revised Scale was found to be correlated with a measure of a theoretically related construct; that is, the Parenting Stress Index/Short Form. The psychometric testing results suggest that the revised Scale can be used as an assessment tool for both research and clinical purposes.

The purpose of this study was to test a model of exercise behavior in older adults. It was hypothesized that (a) mental and physical health directly influence self-efficacy expectations; (b) mental and physical health, age, and self-efficacy expectations influence outcome expectations; and (c) all these variables directly and/or indirectly influence exercise behavior. The sample was composed of 175 older adults living in a continuing-care retirement community, each of whom was interviewed once. Seven of the 10 hypothesized paths were significant. Physical health, self-efficacy expectations, and outcome expectations directly influenced exercise behavior, and age and mental health indirectly influenced exercise through self-efficacy expectations and outcome expectations. Combined these variables accounted for 30% of the variance in exercise behavior. To improve exercise behavior in older adults, health care providers should focus on developing interventions to strengthen self-efficacy and outcome expectations related to exercise.
