Periungual fibroma

Two cases of periungual fibroma of the hand are described. Lesions caused by periungual fibroma place pressure on the nail matrix, which results in marked nail deformities. In both cases, the nail deformities were improved by excision of the fibroma.     

Massive cardiac fibroma

Nonmyxomatous tumors of the heart are exceedingly rare in adults. We report a case of symptomatic, massive, right ventricular cardiac fibroma found in an adult. Despite multiple (preoperative) biopsies, diagnosis was made only after surgical excision.     

Testicular fibroma.

A testicular fibroma in a 67-year-old man is reported. The tumor presented with expansive growth and myxoid areas. Atypias were absent. Differential diagnosis was made with immunohistochemical techniques that are useful for the diagnosis of nonspecialized gonadal stromal tumors. The origin of the tumor was probably in the interstitial or peritubular myofibroblasts.     

Intratendinous aponeurotic fibroma

Juvenile aponeurotic fibroma is a distinctive fibroblastic tumor usually found in young children. The tumor has a predilection for the palms and soles, although it can occur elsewhere, either superficially in subcutaneous tissues or in deeper musculofascial and paraskeletal tissues. In this case the tumor occurred in an adult within the substance of the flexor pollicis longus tendon, a location not previously reported in the literature. Because of the unique location of the tumor, it was excised without sacrificing the tendon. Since recurrence of these lesions is common, continued observation was necessary. Magnetic resonance imaging in this patient 26 months after the operation showed restoration of the normal tendon contour.     

Costal chondromyxoid fibroma

Chondromyxoid fibroma is a rare benign bone tumor observed in less than 1% of all bone tumors. Pathological diagnosis remains difficult. All bone sites may be involved with a predominance of the metaphysis of long tubular bones, particularly the proximal tibia. The tumor has been rarely reported in ribs. We present of case of chondromyxoid fibroma observed in this unusual location in a 31-year-old woman. Routine chest x-ray and computed tomography revealed an expansive destructive mass with a lobulated contour which arose in the fourth left rib. Local resection was performed and the histological examination showed benign chondromyxoid fibroma. The clinical outcome was favorable without recurrence after 15 months follow-up.     

Juvenile aponeurotic fibroma

A large aponeurotic fibroma situated on the dorsum of the hand of a fourteen-year-old Nigerian male is reported. Out of forty-three juvenile aponeurotic fibromata of the hand documented in the literature, only two cases occurred on the dorsum.     

Giant cardiac fibroma

A 29-year-old woman who presented with persistent ventricular premature beat during her delivery was referred to us. Her cardiac echocardiography showed a giant tumor located in the posterior wall of the left ventricle. She had no symptoms of heart failure. Partial resection of the mass was safely conducted using cardiopulmonary bypass. The histopathologic finding was fibroma. She has been doing well 6 years after operation. Periodic echocardiography has showed no growth in this tumor.     

Juvenile aponeurotic fibroma

Among the fibrous tumors of childhood, the juvenile aponeurotic fibroma is rare. After removal, there is a high rate of recurrence in the younger age group. If the recurrence is not aggressive and does not interfere with function, a prolonged observation may be permitted. Otherwise, a more radical extirpation may be needed.
