Leiomyoma of the duodenum presenting as a pyogenic liver abscess.

Leiomyoma of the duodenum is a rare condition which is most often diagnosed only as an incidental finding at post-mortem. It may present clinically with pain or haemorrhage. A case is described of degeneration of a leiomyoma of the fourth part of the duodenum giving rise to pyogenic liver abscess. There is no previous report of this association in the literature.     

Spontaneous perforation of a pyometra presenting as generalized peritonitis

Eleven cases of spontaneous perforation of a pyometra have previously been reported. All were associated with, and probably secondary to, cervical occlusion. A further case is described, but differs in that the cervical canal was patent. In the absence of other possible causes of uterine perforation, the aetiology of the perforation in this case remains uncertain.     

Undiagnosed renal abscess presenting as acute bacterial peritonitis: case report

A case of undiagnosed renal abscess complicated by intraperitoneal rupture with generalised bacterial peritonitis is presented. Prompt surgical intervention was essential for saving the patient's life. Early imaging of the kidney in unresolved renal infection is essential if renal abscess, its delayed presentation and complications are to be avoided. Most patients will be cured without operation by antibiotics and if necessary, by additional percutaneous drainage where an abscess has formed.     

Leiomyoma of the epididymis

Epididymal leiomyomas are rare intrascrotal neoplasms. It is a slow growing tumour and usually present as an enlarged, painless scrotal mass. A case with an unusual presentation is reported with a review of the possible sonographic findings of this entity and the differential diagnosis of a mass in the epididymis.     

Leiomyoma of the nose

Leiomyomas are benign neoplasms that are thought to originate from the vascular smooth muscle. They have a propensity to arise from the gastrointestinal tract, female genital tract (uterus) and subcutaneous tissue. The nasal cavity is an uncommon site for a leiomyoma. We report a 24-year-old woman with a rare nasal leiomyoma. A brief review of the literature and histological variations are described.
