Frozen section is widely used in the intra-operative assessment of patients with ovarian tumors. The diagnosis of malignancy is usually straightforward but in some cases it may be difficult to distinguish whether tumors are of ovarian origin or represent matastases from other sites. Recently, Seidman and colleagues presented a simple algorithm based on tumor size and unilateral versus bilateral involvement to aid in intra-operative assessment of ovarian mucinous neoplasms. In this study we have reviewed the accuracy of frozen section in distinguishing primary ovarian malignancies from tumors metastatic to the ovaries encountered in two hospitals over a 5-year period. The algorithm was also applied to our cases retrospectively irrespective of histological type. Nine hundred fourteen ovarian frozen sections were performed in the study period including 266 cases with a final diagnosis of malignancy. Thirty-seven malignancies (13.9%) were of metastatic origin (exclusing one lymphoma), 21 of which (58.8%) were correctly identified on frozen section. In 5 additional cases metastatic origin was included in the differential diagnosis while a primary ovarian tumor was favored un 11 cases (29.7%). Application of the algorithm to the metastatic tumors led to correct classification in 26/33 (78.8%) assessable cases. Conversely, 195/228 primary ovarian malignancies were correctly identified intra-operatively but the possibility of extra-ovarian malignancy was considered or not excluded in 33 cases (14.5%). Application of the algorithm to the latter problematic primary ovarian tumors overall was not helpful in distinguishing primary or metastatic origin. However if only low-grade primary adenocarcinomas were considered then 10/12 assessable cases were correctly assigned. In conclusion frozen section is only moderately successful in distinguishing primary ovarian malignancies fron tumors metastatic to the ovaries. The simple algorithm proposed by Seidman and colleagues for assessment of ovarian mucinous tumors is helpful and can be applied to low-grade adenocarcinomas of other histological types.  相似文献

Metastatic ovarian tumors: a review of 64 cases   总被引:14,自引:0,他引:14
OBJECTIVE: The goal was to review cases of metastatic ovarian tumor with respect to their clinical features. METHODS: Sixty-four patients with pathologically confirmed metastatic ovarian carcinoma, who were treated between 1978 and 2002 at Osaka Medical Center for Cancer and Cardiovascular Diseases (OMCC), were reviewed and the clinical features examined. RESULTS: We found that metastatic tumors accounted for 21.1% (64/304) of malignant ovarian tumors. Of 64 metastatic ovarian tumors, 26 originated from gynecologic organs, and 38, from nongynecologic organs. Gynecologic primary sites were the uterine body (23%), uterine cervix (14%), and fallopian tube (3%). Eight of nine cervical cancers with ovarian metastases were adenocarcinomas. Adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix metastasized to the ovaries more frequently than squamous cell carcinoma (5.6% vs 0.1%, respectively; P < 0.01). Among 38 cases of metastatic ovarian tumors from nongynecologic organs, Krukenberg tumors, pathologically characterized by the presence of typical signet-ring cells, were found in 11 patients (29%). Most (8/11) had originated in the stomach. Half (19/38) were preoperatively diagnosed as metastases. The 5-year survival rate after resection of metastatic ovarian tumors from gynecologic organs was significantly higher than the rate after resection of such tumors from nongynecologic organs (47% vs 19%, respectively; P = 0.026). CONCLUSIONS: Metastatic ovarian tumors are likely to be relatively common in Japan because of the high incidence of gastric cancer. In cases of pelvic tumor, metastatic ovarian tumor should always be included in the differential diagnoses. As the 5-year survival after resection of metastatic ovarian tumor is 19%, even for tumors from nongynecologic organs, it seems worthwhile to consider tumorectomy as the second cytoreduction.  相似文献

Metastatic tumors in ovaries from breast carcinoma are well known. Breast carcinoma metastases in primary ovarian tumors are much more uncommon. The authors present a case of a primary breast carcinoma, with a lobular component (signet ring cells), which metastasized into a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary. The problem of differential diagnosis with other primary ovarian tumors or metastatic tumors and the problem of particular behavior of metastatic lobular components are discussed.  相似文献

Metastatic pancreatic mucinous adenocarcinomas in the ovaries can be difficult to distinguish from primary ovarian mucinous neoplasms because the former can simulate the latter grossly and histologically and both tumor types share the same cytokeratin 7/cytokeratin 20 immunoprofile. We previously reported the utility of loss of Dpc4 expression in distinguishing metastatic pancreatic carcinomas from primary ovarian mucinous tumors. Recently several new pancreatic carcinoma markers have been identified, including mesothelin, fascin, and prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA). In this study we investigate the expression patterns of these markers in 35 primary ovarian mucinous tumors (28 atypical proliferative [borderline] tumors and 7 invasive carcinomas) and 11 metastatic pancreatic mucinous carcinomas in the ovary. Primary ovarian mucinous tumors expressed mesothelin (17%), fascin (26%), and PSCA (43%) less frequently than metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinomas (73%, 73%, and 82%, respectively). Expression of all three markers was seen only in metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinomas (45%), and coexpression of at least two markers was observed significantly more frequently in metastatic (82%) than primary ovarian mucinous tumors (17%). Our results indicate that an immunohistochemical panel including Dpc4, mesothelin, fascin, and PSCA is useful for evaluating difficult mucinous tumors in the ovary when the differential diagnosis includes metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the clinical behavior and histologic characteristics of metastatic carcinoid tumors to the ovary. METHODS: Retrospective chart review and histologic specimen analysis of all patients with pathologically confirmed metastatic carcinoid tumor to the ovaries seen at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. RESULTS: Seventeen patients with metastatic carcinoid tumors to the ovary were identified. The distal ileum was the site of origin among all patients with identifiable primary tumor. Fifteen patients (88%) had bilateral ovarian metastases. Other metastatic sites (in order of frequency) included liver, peritoneum breast and bone. Fifteen patients (88%) had elevated urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), indicating active serotonin secretion, and sixteen patients (94%) had radiotracer uptake on indium-111-pentetreotide scans. Five-year survival rate was 94%. CONCLUSIONS: Metastatic carcinoid tumors to the ovary typically originate from distal ileal tumors and are nearly always bilateral. Synchronous metastases involve liver and peritoneal surfaces. Favorable survival rates may be associated with octretide treatment and cytoreductive surgery.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Loss of basement membrane (BM) components, such as type IV collagen has been demonstrated in ovarian cancer, but the associations with other molecules like CD44v6, involved in metastatic process of ovarian carcinoma, have not been fully analyzed. This study investigates the expression of type IV collagen, CD44v6 molecule in correlation with p53 and Ki-67 presence in primary and metastatic lesion of ovarian carcinoma to define their role in metastases of ovarian carcinoma. METHODS: The expression of type IV collagen, CD44v6, p53, and Ki-67 was evaluated on frozen tissue sections from primary ovarian tumors (malignant n = 37, benign n = 16), metastatic lesions (n = 29) and ascitic fluid cells (n = 28). Protein expression of all studied biomarkers was evaluated in a subset of specimens using immunohistochemistry (IHC). RESULTS: Type IV collagen expression in the primary ovarian carcinoma was positively correlated with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage and tumor grade. Significant difference was observed for type IV collagen immunoreactivity in carcinoma cells in effusions when compared to corresponding primary tumors (P < 0.001) and metastatic lesions (P < 0.001). Likewise down-regulation of type IV collagen expression was seen in primary ovarian carcinomas (P = 0.01), ascitic fluid cells (P < 0.001), and metastases (P = 0.003) when compared to benign ovarian neoplasms. CD44v6 expression was detected in a comparable percentage of primary carcinomas (51%) and metastatic lesions (52%). In cells isolated from ascitic fluid, CD44v6 immunopositivity was observed in 43% of cases. A comparative analysis of primary and metastatic tumors and carcinoma cells in effusion did not reveal differences in expression of CD44v6. Positivity of CD44v6 was found in 2/16 (12%) of benign ovarian neoplasms. There were no significant differences between CD44v6 expression in benign neoplasms compared to primary malignant tumors and metastases (P > 0.05). CD44v6 expression in primary ovarian carcinomas was associated with higher tumor grade (P = 0.01) and histological type of tumors (P = 0.01). An inverse relationship of type IV collagen expression with p53 and CD44v6 positivity in benign and malignant ovarian tumors was found (P > 0.01). Type IV collagen expression was inversely correlated with p53 status (P = 0.03) in metastatic lesions. A slight trend toward an inverse correlation between Ki-67 and type IV collagen expression was observed in both benign and malignant ovarian tumors and metastases. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that observed inverse correlation of type IV collagen expression with p53, CD44v6, and slight with Ki-67 positivity in primary benign and malignant tumors indicates that these molecules may cooperate in the invasion and progression of ovarian carcinomas.  相似文献

Abstract.   Šimaga Š, Osmak M, Babič D, Šprem M, Vukelič B, Abramič M. Quantitative biochemical analysis of lactate dehydrogenase in human ovarian tissues: correlation with tumor grade. Int J Gynecol Cancer 2005; 15: 438–444.
In an attempt to identify glycolytic capacity of normal and neoplastic human ovary, total lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity was measured in tissue cytosol originating from 69 patients (18 with benign ovarian tumor, 34 with ovarian carcinoma, six with nonepithelial ovarian malignant tumors, and 11 with tumor metastatic to ovary) and compared to the LDH activity of normal ovarian tissues ( n = 19). Median value of total LDH-specific activity expressed as U/mg protein was 0.546 in normal tissues, 0.584 in benign tumors, 1.071 in malignancies metastatic to ovaries, 0.872 in nonepithelial primary ovarian tumors, and 0.818 in primary carcinomas. A significant rise in LDH-specific activity was found in malignant primary and secondary tumors of epithelial and nonepithelial origin, but not in benign neoplasms, compared to the activity in normal tissue. Ovarian carcinomas of serous histologic type did not differ in LDH activity from mucinous tumors. However, poorly differentiated carcinomas (grade 3) showed significantly enhanced activity of this glycolytic enzyme when compared to its grade 1 counterpart. The subgroup of grade 1 tumors did not differ in LDH activity from normal and benign ovarian tissue. Obtained results suggest that direct correlation might exist between ovarian epithelial tumor grade and lactate dehydrogenase activity.  相似文献

Sixteen cases of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the cervix that were associated with a mucinous tumor of one or both ovaries are reported. The patients ranged from 25 to 70 (average, 44) years of age; two of them had the Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. Eight patients complained of abdominal swelling; most of the remainder had symptoms of uterine origin. Twelve patients had bilateral and four had unilateral ovarian tumors, which were typically large and cystic. Microscopic examination of most of the ovarian tumors revealed various combinations of benign-appearing, borderline, and carcinomatous mucinous epithelium within the same specimen. Most of the cervical tumors were deeply invasive; 10 of them were of the adenoma malignum type. Although there were varying degrees of uncertainty in individual cases, consideration of several features including the extent and distribution of disease in the abdomen, the comparative histology of the tumors, and the pattern of ovarian involvement suggested that 10 of the ovarian tumors were independent primary tumors, three were metastatic from the cervix, and in three cases the ovaries contained both primary and metastatic tumors.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the usefulness of the recently proposed algorithm (Seidman JD, Kurman RJ, Ronnett BM. Primary and metastatic mucinous adenocarcinomas in the ovaries: incidence in routine practice with a new approach to improve intraoperative diagnosis. Am J Surg Pathol 2003; 27: 985-93 [5]) that classifies mucinous adenocarcinomas of the ovary as primary when they were unilateral > or =10 cm and as metastatic when they were unilateral <10 cm or bilateral. METHODS: Malignant ovarian neoplasms, which were resected in Chiang Mai University Hospital between 1992 and 2003, were histologically reviewed. Mucinous adenocarcinomas involving the ovary were identified. The medical records and radiologic materials were reviewed in correlation with the pathologic features to identify the primary site. RESULTS: There were 74 cases of mucinous adenocarcinomas; 16 were primary ovarian; 52, metastatic; and 6 of indeterminate primary site (primary versus metastatic). Primary mucinous adenocarcinomas had a mean size of 16.4 cm and bilateral involvement in 13%. Metastatic mucinous adenocarcinomas had a mean size of 11.7 cm and bilateral involvement in 77%. Excluding the 6 tumors of indeterminate primary site, the proposed algorithm correctly classified primary and metastatic tumors in 84% of 68 cases. Of 21 unilateral mucinous adenocarcinomas > or =10 cm, 62% were primary ovarian. Of 5 unilateral tumors <10 cm, 80% were metastatic. Of 42 bilateral mucinous adenocarcinomas, 95% were metastatic. CONCLUSION: The algorithm provided high accuracy in the overall prediction of primary and metastatic mucinous adenocarcinomas of the ovary, with major strength in the identification of metastatic tumors by bilaterality or size <10 cm. However, the prediction of primary mucinous adenocarcinomas by unilaterality and size > or =10 cm was less reliable than previously reported. Due to the overlapping features between primary and metastatic tumors and the higher frequency of the latter, the possibility of metastases should always be borne in mind in the evaluation of mucinous adenocarcinomas of the ovary.  相似文献

Incidence of metastasis to the ovaries from nongenital tract primary tumors   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of metastatic tumors to the ovaries in nongenital tract primaries and to determine the route of dissemination. METHODS: An IRB-approved study retrospectively reviewed patient records from January 1992 to January 2003. A tumor registry and pathology database search identified women with metastatic disease to the ovaries that had undergone surgery for the presence of an adnexal mass. The charts were reviewed for age at diagnosis, presenting symptoms, size of ovarian metastasis, laterality of metastasis, and primary tumor site. Pathology reports and specimen slides were reviewed to confirm the diagnosis and evaluate the tumors for various pathological features. RESULTS: A total of 59 cases of metastasis to the ovary were identified. The median age of the study group was 55 years old (range: 27-78). Primary colon cancer was identified in 19 (32.2%) cases; appendix 12 (20.3%); breast 5 (8.4%); small bowel and gastric each contributed 4 (6.8%) cases. Pancreatic cancer added 3 (5.1%), while gallbladder and urinary bladder each contributed 1 (1.7%) case. Tumors of unknown primary contributed 10 (18.5%) of the cases. Stromal invasion was seen in 56 (95%) of the cases and surface involvement in 9 (15%) cases. Bilateral metastasis was found in 39 (66.1%) patients and unilateral metastasis in 20 (33.9%) patients. CONCLUSIONS: Metastatic lesions to the ovary are more commonly seen from primary colon cancer, appendiceal, and breast carcinomas. The mechanism of metastasis is through hematogenous pathways as opposed to a transserosal route.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To examine the cyclin D1 mRNA expression level in ovarian tumor samples as compared with normal ovaries and to determine the relationship between cyclin D1 overexpression and p53 mutation status in ovarian tumors. METHODS: mRNA was isolated and cDNA was prepared from 27 epithelial ovarian tumors (3 tumors of low malignant potential (LMP) and 24 cancers) and 6 normal ovaries. The cyclin D1 sequences were amplified by using a thermal cycler in parallel with the beta-tubulin gene as an internal control. The cyclin D1 mRNA expression level relative to beta-tubulin was determined by 32P phosphoimager analysis. To confirm the overexpression of the cyclin D1 protein in ovarian tumor cells, immunostaining was performed. The p53 gene mutation status was examined by direct cDNA sequencing. RESULTS: mRNA levels of cyclin D1 were significantly higher in 21 (78%) of the 27 ovarian tumors than in normal ovaries. Cyclin D1 overexpression was detected in ovarian LMP tumors as well as in ovarian cancer cases. Positive immunostaining of cyclin D1 protein was observed in 10 of 18 (56%) ovarian tumors examined. p53 mutations were found in 11 (61%) of 18 ovarian tumors. Of 11 ovarian tumor cases with p53 mutations, 5 showed overexpression of cyclin D1. All 7 ovarian tumor cases without p53 mutations showed significant cyclin D1 mRNA overexpression. CONCLUSION: Cyclin D1 overexpression seems to be an early genetic event in ovarian tumor development. Although p53 may be one of the proteins whose function regulates the expression of G1 cyclins, ovarian tumors with no p53 mutation consistently showed cyclin D1 overexpression. Cyclin D1 overexpression may play an important role in the tumorigenesis of epithelial ovarian tumors.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of synchronous primary neoplasia of the ovaries in patients with primary malignant neoplasia of the uterus, and to analyze the clinical and histological characteristics of these cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinicopathological data from a series of patients treated for primary malignant neoplasia of the uterus between 1985 and November 2003 have been studied retrospectively. RESULTS: Synchronous primary neoplasia of the ovaries was found in 13 out of 173 patients (7.5%) treated for primary malignant neoplasia of the uterus. In four patients (2.3%) the histological findings suggested ovarian metastases from primary endometrial adenocarcinoma. In four other cases (2.3%) there was extension of the primary uterine sarcoma to the ovaries. In the remaining five cases (2.9%) primary endometrial adenocarcinoma coexisted with: a) ovarian cystadenocarcinoma in two cases, b) ovarian fibromathecoma in two cases, and c) ovarian tumor of borderline malignancy in one case. CONCLUSIONS: Coexistence of distinct primary neoplasias in the uterus and ovaries is rare. Diagnosis of two primary malignancies in the uterus and ovaries should be based on histological examination. Treatment should be appropriate for both tumors, taking into consideration that treatment of one tumor will not lead to subtreatment of the other.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Many studies have demonstrated that clinically evident tumor cells already carry multiple genetic alterations and further accumulation of genetic alteration causes tumor progression which plays a role in metastasis. Therefore, it could be expected that malignant potential in the metastatic site is more aggressive than that in the primary site. Using several immunohistochemical markers (p53, Ki-67, and CD44v6), we investigated an alteration of malignant potential. METHODS: We immunohistochemically examined expression of p53, Ki-67, and CD44 in primary and metastatic lesions of ovarian cancer. Fifty-six samples of primary lesions and matched metastatic sites from 56 patients with primary epithelial ovarian cancers were included in this study. RESULTS: In 16 cases (28%), the histological grade of the metastatic lesion increased. This difference was statistically significant (P = 0.0232). In 16 cases (28%), the expression of p53 increased in the metastatic lesions, in 5 pairs from negative to positive, whereas the case decrease in the metastatic lesions was only 1. This difference was statistically significant (P = 0.0046). There was no significant difference in Ki-67 labeling indices and expression of CD44v6 between the primary and matched metastatic lesions. The degree of p53 expression in the metastatic lesions significantly correlated with disease-free survival (P = 0.0482), whereas that in the primary lesions did not. Moreover, high p53 expression in the metastatic lesions significantly correlated with disease-free survival in multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONS: The p53 expression in metastatic lesions may reflect an aggressive biologic behavior in ovarian cancer.  相似文献

Case report We report a case of metastatic duodenal carcinoma simulating a primary ovarian mucinous tumor, occurring in a 53-year-old woman who had undergone pancreatoduodenectomy for duodenal adenocarcinoma approximately 18 months previously. The surgically removed bilateral ovaries revealed multicystic tumors. Histological examination showed they closely mimicked primary ovarian mucinous tumors. Immunohistochemical examination using cytokeratin 7 and 20, and CA125 indicated that the bilateral ovarian tumors were metastasis from duodenal carcinoma. Conclusions Duodenal carcinoma can be a rare primary focus of metastatic tumor simulating primary ovarian neoplasm.  相似文献

A review of 128 cases of "primary" ovarian müllerian carcinoma treated at the King George V Memorial Hospital was undertaken to determine the relative frequency with which such tumors were associated with evidence of multifocal primary neoplasia. Of the 128 cases studied, 115 were invasive carcinomas and 13 were noninvasive or borderline ovarian tumors ("tumors of low malignant potential"). Eight of 10 borderline serous ovarian tumors (80%) and 37 of 75 invasive serous carcinomas (49%) exhibited evidence of independent primary neoplasia at more than one anatomical site in the biopsy material available for review. Many of these cases represented bilateral primary ovarian tumors, but autochthonous extraovarian neoplasia was also commonly encountered. A single borderline endometrioid ovarian tumor and six of 15 endometrioid carcinomas (40%) were associated with biopsy-proven multifocal primary tumorigenesis. These were predominantly neoplasms in one or both ovaries plus adenocarcinoma in the uterine corpus. Other histological types of malignant common epithelial tumors of the ovaries did not demonstrate any such tendency, highlighting major differences in pathogenesis between members of this loosely associated group of ovarian cancers. Our study suggests that gynecological endometrioid and serous malignancies are commonly multifocal and we feel this has significant implications for the way these neoplasms are staged and therefore treated.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To compare the survival and prognostic factors of patients with synchronous primary ovarian and endometrial cancers, and endometrial cancers metastatic to the ovaries. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifty-three patients with synchronous primary ovarian and endometrial cancer and 64 patients with endometrial cancer metastatic to the ovaries were evaluated. RESULTS: Mean follow-up time was 47.2 months (18-170 months). There was no statistical difference in age, gravidity and parity between the two groups. Abnormal vaginal bleeding was the most common symptom in both groups. All patients were subjected to a surgical staging procedure. Overall survival of the synchronous group was significantly higher than that of the metastatic group (98 +/- 12 vs 59 +/- 6 months; p = 0.048). The significant prognostic factors for synchronous cancers after multivariate analysis were age, stage of ovarian cancer, grade of endometrial cancer, and adjuvant therapy status. CONCLUSION: Patients with synchronous ovarian and endometrial cancers appear to have a good prognosis and should undergo primary surgical staging since the stage of tumors is a significant prognostic factor.  相似文献

In order to outline the pathways of gastrointestinal malignancies metastasizing to the ovaries, we reviewed 103 cases of metastatic ovarian tumors, and also performed para-aortic lymph node sampling on 11 patients at operation for metastatic ovarian tumors. Of the 103 patients, 74% (26/35) with gastric cancer and 67% (45/67) with colorectal cancer had lymph node metastasis at or before the diagnosis of ovarian tumor. Intraperitoneal metastases presented in 49 and 42% of patients with gastric and with colorectal cancers, respectively. Twenty-three percent of gastric cancer patients and 25% of colorectal cancer patients presented with both lymph node and intraperitoneal metastases. The ovary was the first or among the early metastatic organs diagnosed in 51 of the 53 patients with metachronous ovarian metastases. Only 4 patients with colorectal cancer and none with gastric cancer showed parenchymal organ metastases. These 4 patients also showed intraperitoneal lesions, and 3 of these 4 patients had node metastasis. Among the 11 patients who underwent prospective para-aortic lymph node sampling during operation for the ovarian tumors, only 1 had enlarged para-aortic nodes depicted by computed tomography, 2 had grossly enlarged (≥1.5 cm) para-aortic lymph nodes noted at surgery, and 6 of the 7 patients with gastric cancer and all 3 with colorectal cancer had metastatic nodes histologically. Among the 58 nodes taken from these patients, 67% showed metastatic foci. We concluded that lymph node metastasis is frequently seen in patients with metastatic ovarian tumors of gastrointestinal origin, and hypothesized that retrograde lymphatic spread is a likely route for the metastases.  相似文献

Ultrasound characteristics of different types of adnexal malignancies   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
OBJECTIVE: To describe ultrasound characteristics of adnexal malignancies, i.e., borderline ovarian tumors, primary invasive ovarian epithelial cancer stage 1, primary invasive ovarian epithelial cancer stages 2-4, rare types of malignancy, and metastatic tumors. METHODS: In a prospective international study involving nine European ultrasound centers, 1,066 women with a pelvic mass judged to be of adnexal origin underwent transvaginal gray scale and color Doppler ultrasound examination by a skilled examiner before surgery. A standardized examination technique and predefined definitions of ultrasound characteristics were used. RESULTS: Of 1,066 masses, 266 were malignant and are included: 55 ovarian borderline tumors, 144 primary invasive epithelial ovarian cancers (42 stage 1, 102 stages 2-4), 25 rare malignancies, and 42 metastatic tumors. Most (56%) metastatic tumors and most (60%) rare types of tumor were solid and richly vascularized at color Doppler ultrasound examination (on a scale ranging from 1 to 4, color score based on subjective evaluation was 3 or 4 in 88% and 86%, respectively). Borderline ovarian tumors and stage 1 primary invasive ovarian epithelial cancers differed from stages 2-4 primary invasive ovarian epithelial cancers: they were larger (median volume 375 ml and 695 ml vs. 209 ml; P = 0.0213 and 0.0001), a larger proportion contained papillary projections (64% and 67% vs. 41%; P = 0.0072 and 0.0054), they were more often multilocular cysts without solid components (18% and 14% vs. 2%; P < 0.0017 and 0.0204), but they were less often purely solid (5% and 7% vs. 38%; P 相似文献

A review of the literature on ovarian tumors in infants and children and 53 such cases from the Mayo Clinic are reported. In the new series, 50 of the tumors arose primarily in the ovary and 3 were metastatic; 29 of the 50 primary tumors were considered to be benign and 21 were clinically or histologically malignant. The over-all mortality rate in this series was 26 per cent.  相似文献
