The use of corrugated webs increases web shear stability and eliminates the need for transverse stiffeners in steel beams. Optimised regression learner techniques (ORLTs) are rarely used for calculating shear capacity in steel beam research. This study proposes a new approach for calculating the maximum shear capacity of steel beams with trapezoidal corrugated webs (SBCWs) by using ORLTs. A new shear model is proposed using ORLTs in accordance with plate buckling theory and previously developed formulas for predicting the shear strength of SBCWs. The proposed ORLT models are implemented using the regression learner toolbox of MATLAB software (2020b). The available data of more than 125 test results from different specimens prepared by previous researchers are used to create the model. In this study, web geometry and relevant web steel grades determine the shear capacity of SBCWs. Four regression methods are adopted. Results are compared with those of an artificial neural network model. The model output factor represents the ratio of the web vertical shear stress to the normalised shear stress. Shear capacity can be estimated on the basis of the resulting factor from the model. The proposed model is verified using two methods. In the first method, a series of tests are performed by the authors. In the second method, the results of the model are compared with the shear values obtained experimentally by other researchers. On the basis of the test results of previous studies and the current work, the proposed model provides an acceptable degree of accuracy for predicting the shear capacity of SBCWs. The results obtained using Gaussian process regression are the most appropriate because its recoded mean square error is 0.07%. The proposed model can predict the shear capacity of SBCWs with an acceptable percentage of error. The recoded percentage of error is less than 5% for 93% of the total specimens. By contrast, the maximum differential obtained is ±10%, which is recorded for 3 out of 125 specimens.  相似文献

The flexural strength of Slender steel tube sections is known to achieve significant improvements upon being filled with concrete material; however, this section is more likely to fail due to buckling under compression stresses. This study investigates the flexural behavior of a Slender steel tube beam that was produced by connecting two pieces of C-sections and was filled with recycled-aggregate concrete materials (CFST beam). The C-section’s lips behaved as internal stiffeners for the CFST beam’s cross-section. A static flexural test was conducted on five large scale specimens, including one specimen that was tested without concrete material (hollow specimen). The ABAQUS software was also employed for the simulation and non-linear analysis of an additional 20 CFST models in order to further investigate the effects of varied parameters that were not tested experimentally. The numerical model was able to adequately verify the flexural behavior and failure mode of the corresponding tested specimen, with an overestimation of the flexural strength capacity of about 3.1%. Generally, the study confirmed the validity of using the tubular C-sections in the CFST beam concept, and their lips (internal stiffeners) led to significant improvements in the flexural strength, stiffness, and energy absorption index. Moreover, a new analytical method was developed to specifically predict the bending (flexural) strength capacity of the internally stiffened CFST beams with steel stiffeners, which was well-aligned with the results derived from the current investigation and with those obtained by others.  相似文献

Based on the project of the Guansheng Qujiang Bridge, the flexural mechanical properties of an ultrahigh strength concrete filled steel tube (UHSCFST) were discussed. A total of six UHSCFST beam specimens were tested, and the cube strength (fcu) of the core concrete reached 80.3–115.2 MPa. The effects of concrete strength on flexural bearing capacity, deformation characteristics, and failure modes of UHSCFST specimens were discussed. Test results showed that the bending failure modes of UHSCFST specimens were the same as those of ordinary ones. The failure of UHSCFST specimens was attributed to excessive deflection, and local buckling occurred in the compression zone. Moreover, the bending capacity of the specimens did not decrease, even if they had yielded. Although ultrahigh strength concrete was poured, all of the specimens displayed outstanding bending ductility. The main function of core concrete was to provide radial restraint for the steel tube to avoid premature buckling. When the steel content of the specimen section was constant, the strength increases of core concrete had a slight impact on the bending failure mode, bearing capacity and ductility of UHSCFST specimen. The research results can deepen the understanding of the mechanical behaviors of the UHSCFST composite truss structure.  相似文献

To enhance structural performance of concrete and reduce its self-weight, ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) with superior structural performance has been developed. As UHPC members with 180 MPa or above of the compressive strength can be designed, a rational assessment of thin-walled UHPC structural member may be required to prevent unexpected buckling failure that has not been considered while designing conventional concrete members. In this study, theoretical local buckling behavior of the thin-walled UHPC flanges was investigated using geometrical and material nonlinear analysis with imperfections (GMNIA). For the failure criteria of UHPC, a concrete damaged plasticity (CDP) model was applied to the analysis. Additionally, an elastic-perfectly plastic material model for steel materials was considered as a reference to establish differences in local buckling behavior between the UHPC and steel flanges. Finite element approaches were compared and verified based on test data in the literature. Finally, this study offers several important findings on theoretical local buckling and local bending behavior of UHPC flanges. The inelastic local buckling behavior of UHPC flanges was mainly affected by crack propagation due to its low tensile strength. Based on this study, possibility of the local buckling of UHPC flanges was discussed.  相似文献

The shear span-to-effective depth ratio is known to modulate the shear behaviour of steel beams with corrugated webs (SBCWs). However, present design standards for SBCWs do not adequately address this issue. The impact of shear span-to-effective depth ratio and pure bending spans on the failure mechanism of SBCWs was investigated in this study. Under four-point bending, three beams with shear-span-to-effective-depth-ratios ranging from 1.65 to 2.5 were examined to investigate the relationship between shear and bending spans and failure mechanisms. ANSYS software was used to create finite element models for the tested SBCWs using the finite element technique. In addition, the experimental findings are compared to two codes, specifically DASt-Rishtlinie015 and EN 1993-1-5. Moreover, an analytical section comprised of the creation of a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model (FEM) was implemented. Finally, a parametric study using the verified FE model was conducted to assess the impact of shear and pure bending spans on the overall behaviour of SBCWs. As a result, the shear span and horizontal fold length of CWSBs are key components for determining the strength and failure modes of beams. Furthermore, the load capabilities and stiffness of CWSBs were more greatly affected by increasing the shear span than by increasing the pure bending one.  相似文献

Compared to concrete or mortar-filled Buckling-Restrained Braces (BRBs), all-steel BRBs provide weight and fabrication time reductions. In particular, all-steel buckling braces with H-section cores are gaining attention in cases where large axial strength is required. In this paper, an all-steel BRB, called NOVEL (Noise, CO2 emission, Vibration, Energy dissipation and Labor), is presented. It comprises an H-section core encased in a square casing, and its behavior was studied through full-scale subassembly and brace tests, followed by a finite element parametric study. Two failure modes were observed: global buckling and flange buckling of the H-section core, which occurred in test specimens with Pcr/Py ratios of 1.68 and 4.91, respectively. Global buckling occurred when the maximum moment in the casing reached its yielding moment, although the test specimens had sufficient stiffness to prevent global buckling. Failure by core flange buckling occurred at a core strain of 1.2%. The finite element parametric study indicated that adjusting the width-to-thickness ratio of the core flange is more feasible than stiffening the flange or adjusting the unconstrained-length end stiffeners. The value of 5.06 was the minimum flange slenderness ratio that provided a stable hysteresis to the end of the loading protocol of the American Institute of Steel Construction standard.  相似文献

The article presents an innovative method of reducing welding distortions of thin-walled structures by introducing structural and technological changes. The accuracy of the method was demonstrated on the example of welding the stub pipes to the outer surface of a thin-walled tank with large dimensions, made of steel 1.4301 with a wall thickness of 1.5 × 10−3 (m). During traditional Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), distortions of the base are formed, the flatness deviation of which was 11.9 × 10−3 (m) and exceeded the permissible standards. As a result of structural and technological changes, not only does the joint stiffness increase, but also a favorable stress state is introduced in the flange, which reduces the local welding stresses. Numerical models were developed using the finite element method (FEM), which were used to analyze the residual stresses and strains pre-welding, in extruded flanges, in transient, and post-welding. The results of the calculations for various flanges heights show that there is a limit height h = 9.2 × 10−3 (m), above which flange cracks during extrusion. A function for calculating the flange height was developed due to the required stress state. The results of numerical calculations were verified experimentally on a designed and built test stand for extrusion the flange. The results of experimental research confirmed the results of numerical simulations. For further tests, bases with a flange h = 6 × 10−3 (m) were used, to which a stub pipe was welded using the GTAW method. After the welding process, the distortion of the base was measured with the ATOS III scanner (GOM a Zeiss company, Oberkochen, Germany). It has been shown that the developed methodology is correct, and the introduced structural and technological changes result in a favorable reduction of welding stresses and a reduction in the flatness deviation of the base in the welded joint to 0.39 × 10−3 (m), which meets the requirements of the standards.  相似文献

The paper presents failure scenarios for various types of connections between a thin-walled beam and a sandwich panel. In addition to standard connections used in civil engineering applications, that is, self-drilling fasteners for sandwich panels, the study examined the use of bolts, blind rivets, and double-sided acrylic tape applied linearly and pointwise. The connections were subjected to the horizontal load applied with constant eccentricity with respect to the plane of the connection surface. This load arrangement simulates the behaviour of a free flange of the thin-walled beam in bending while lateral-torsional buckling occurs. In this way, the research covers the determination of the lateral stiffness of the thin-walled beam-free flange, while the other flange is connected to the sandwich panel using various connection systems.  相似文献

Corrugated steel plate shear walls (CSPWs) with three different stiffening methods are proposed in this paper, including unstiffened CSPWs (USWs), cross stiffened CSPWs (CSWs) and asymmetric diagonal-stiffened CSPWs (ASWs). A numerical model was established by ABAQUS 6.13 based on the validation of an existing cyclic test on a CSPW. This paper presents an investigation of the lateral performance under monotonic loading, seismic performance under cyclic loading and seismic performance under atmospheric corrosion of USW, CSW and ASW. The results show that (1) Stiffeners can improve the elastic critical buckling load, the initial stiffness and the ultimate shear resistance of CSPWs, and the effect of asymmetric diagonal stiffeners is more significant than that of cross stiffeners; (2) Stiffeners can improve the energy dissipation capacity and ductility, delay stiffness degradation and reduce the out-of-plane deformation of CSPWs, and the hysteretic performance of ASWs is obviously better than that of CSWs; and (3) Under atmospheric corrosion, stiffeners are conducive to inhibiting buckling and improving the seismic performance of CSPWs, while the seismic performance of CSWs is significantly affected by corrosion, so asymmetric diagonal stiffeners are better than cross stiffeners in improving the seismic performance of CSPWs. Meanwhile, the formula of ultimate shear resistance of corroded specimens is also fitted in this paper, which can provide design suggestions for practical engineering.  相似文献

There is an interesting potential for the use of GFRP-pultruded profiles in hybrid GFRP-concrete structural elements, either for new constructions or for the rehabilitation of existing structures. This paper provides experimental and numerical investigations on the flexural performance of reinforced concrete (RC) specimens composite with encased pultruded GFRP I-sections. Five simply supported composite beams were tested in this experimental program to investigate the static flexural behavior of encased GFRP beams with high-strength concrete. Besides, the effect of using shear studs to improve the composite interaction between the GFRP beam and concrete as well as the effect of web stiffeners of GFRP were explored. Encasing the GFRP beam with concrete enhanced the peak load by 58.3%. Using shear connectors, web stiffeners, and both improved the peak loads by 100.6%, 97.3%, and 130.8%, respectively. The GFRP beams improved ductility by 21.6% relative to the reference one without the GFRP beam. Moreover, the shear connectors, web stiffeners, and both improved ductility by 185.5%, 119.8%, and 128.4%, respectively, relative to the encased reference beam. Furthermore, a non-linear Finite Element (FE) model was developed and validated by the experimental results to conduct a parametric study to investigate the effect of the concrete compressive strength and tensile strength of the GFRP beam. The developed FE model provided good agreement with the experimental results regarding deformations and damaged patterns.  相似文献

Special-shaped concrete-filled steel tube (SS-CFST) columns can be embedded in the wall, thus preventing the columns from protruding. This feature makes it popular in steel residential buildings. This paper proposes a new special-shaped concrete-filled square steel tube (SS-CFSST) composite column composed of multiple square steel tubes connected by steel hoops to form L-, T- or cross-shaped sections. Eight specimens were tested under axial loads with section shape, construction method, slenderness ratio, steel tube thickness, and steel strength as variation parameters. The structural performance, such as failure modes, peak load, load–displacement curves, load–strain curves, and Poisson’s ratio of the steel tubes, were analyzed. The tests illustrated that the failure modes of hoop-type specimens and weld-type stub columns were mainly the local buckling of steel tubes and bending failure, and those of the weld-type slender columns were mainly overall bending failure. The load-carrying capacity of the hoop-type specimen was higher than that of the weld-type specimen with the same cross-sectional dimensions and slenderness ratio. Next, the stress–strain relationship model of core concrete in the SS-CFSST composite column was established by considering the restraint effect of the connection coincidence area of steel tubes and steel hoops on concrete. Additionally, the finite element model (FEM) of the column was established using this constitutive model. By comparing the failure modes, load–strain curves and bearing capacities obtained from the tests and FEM, the established FEM can accurately evaluate the mechanical properties of SS-CFSST composite columns with steel hoops under axial compression.  相似文献

The present study aimed at evaluating the mechanical performance under bending loads of circular hollow sections of steel. Different bending tests have been carried out by applying two-point loads, to determine and examine the effects of the diameter, the thickness of the section, and the span of the beam on the performance of the steel tube. The effects of square opening and variation in the number of openings on the performance of these sections have also been examined. Ten samples of hollow circular beams of varying thickness (2 mm, 3 mm, and 6 mm), varying diameter (76.2 mm, 101.6 mm, and 219 mm), and varying span (1000 mm, 1500 mm, and 2000 mm) were fabricated and tested for pre-failure and post-failure stages. The dimensions of the reference specimen considered were 3 mm in thickness, 101.6 mm in diameter, and 1500 mm in span. The results have shown that on increasing the section thickness by 200%, ductility and bearing strength were enhanced by 58.04% and 81.75%, respectively. Meanwhile, decreasing the section thickness by 67%, ductility and bearing strength were reduced by 64.86% and 38.87%, respectively. Moreover, on increasing the specimen diameter and on decreasing span, a significant increase in bearing strength and stiffness was observed; however, ductility was reduced. Meanwhile, on increasing the span of the specimen, all the parameters observed, i.e., bearing strength, stiffness, and ductility, decreased. On observing the ultimate strength of each specimen with square opening, the ultimate strength was reduced by 17.88%, 19.71%, and 14.23% for one, two-, and three-square openings, respectively. Moreover, the ductility was significantly reduced by 72.40%, 67.71%, and 60.88% for one, two-, and three-square openings/apertures, respectively, and led to the sudden failure of these specimens. The local buckling failure dominated for specimens having a D/t ratio more than 50 and showed very negligible levels of ovalization of the cross-section. Local buckling failure was observed to be prevented after providing the circular rings in the specimen, since bearing strength increased compared with the specimen without rings.  相似文献

In this paper, a comparison of the mechanical properties of high-strength low-alloy S460N steel welded joints is presented. The welded joints were made by the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process in the air environment and water, by the local cavity welding method. Welded joints were tested following the EN ISO 15614-1:2017 standard. After welding, the non-destructive—visual, penetrant, radiographic, and ultrasonic (phased array) tests were performed. In the next step, the destructive tests, as static tensile-, bending-, impact- metallographic (macroscopic and microscopic) tests, and Vickers HV10 measurements were made. The influence of weld porosity on the mechanical properties of the tested joints was also assessed. The performed tests showed that the tensile strength of the joints manufactured in water (567 MPa) could be similar to the air welded joint (570 MPa). The standard deviations from the measurements were—47 MPa in water and 33 MPa in the air. However, it was also stated that in the case of a complex state of stress, for example, bending, torsional and tensile stresses, the welding imperfections (e.g., pores) significantly decrease the properties of the welded joint. In areas characterized by porosity the tensile strength decreased to 503 MPa. Significant differences were observed for bending tests. During the bending of the underwater welded joint, a smaller bending angle broke the specimen than was the case during the air welded joint bending. Also, the toughness and hardness of joints obtained in both environments were different. The minimum toughness for specimens welded in water was 49 J (in the area characterized by high porosity) and in the air it was 125 J (with a standard deviation of 23 J). The hardness in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) for the underwater joint in the non-tempered area was above 400 HV10 (with a standard deviation of 37 HV10) and for the air joint below 300 HV10 (with a standard deviation of 17 HV10). The performed investigations showed the behavior of S460N steel, which is characterized by a high value of carbon equivalent (CeIIW) 0.464%, during local cavity welding.  相似文献

To accommodate utilities in buildings, different sizes of openings are provided in the web of reinforced concrete deep beams, which cause reductions in the beam strength and stiffness. This paper aims to investigate experimentally and numerically the effectiveness of using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips, as a strengthening technique, to externally strengthen reinforced concrete continuous deep beams (RCCDBs) with large openings. The experimental work included testing three RCCDBs under five-point bending. A reference specimen was prepared without openings to explore the reductions in strength and stiffness after providing large openings. Openings were created symmetrically at the center of spans of the other specimens to represent 40% of the overall beam depth. Moreover, finite elements (FE) analysis was validated using the experimental results to conduct a parametric study on RCCDBs strengthened with CFRP strips. The results confirmed reductions in the ultimate load by 21% and 7% for the un-strengthened and strengthened specimens, respectively, due to the large openings. Although the large openings caused reductions in capacities, the CFRP strips limited the deterioration by enhancing the specimen capacity by 17% relative to the un-strengthened one.  相似文献

Circular hollow steel tube columns are widely used in high-rise buildings and bridges due to their ductility and lower weight compared to reinforced concrete. The use of this type of steel section has several advantages over using reinforced concrete members. The present study investigates the bending behavior of steel circular hollow sections when subjected to bending loads. The variations in material characteristics with regard to position along the cross-section of a steel tube member is first considered in this experimental study, providing for a more accurate definition of the material behavior in the model. A supported beam tested by two-point loads is the loading type that is used to study the bending performance of steel tubes. Ten circular hollow beam specimens were prepared and tested up to and post the failure stage with the following dimensions: thickness (2, 3, and 6 mm), diameter (76.2, 101.6, and 219 mm), and span (1000, 1500, and 2000 mm). A finite element analysis has been conducted for these ten specimens using the ANSYS program. The finite element model is compared to experimentally obtained data to verify that both local and global behaviors are correctly considered. The load-deflection results of this analysis showed a good agreement with the experimental results. A parametric study also was performed that considered two variables, which were the effect of the presence of circular rings and the change of opening location in the length direction on the specimens’ behavior. This study showed that the presence of the circular rings in the specimen led to an increase in its ultimate strength (of 53.24%) compared with the non-presence of these rings. In contrast, the presence of openings at 30, 40, and 50% from the specimen length reduced the strength capacity by 8.76, 14.23, and 17.88%, respectively.  相似文献

Corrugated steel web with inherent high out-of-plane stiffness has a promising application in configuring large span highway bridge girders. Due to the irregularity of the configuration details, the local stress concentration poses a major fatigue problem for the welded flange plates of high strength low alloy structural steels. In this work, the methods of applying CFRP laminate and shot peening onto the surfaces of the tension flanges were employed with the purpose of improving the fatigue strength of such configuration details. The effectiveness of this method in the improvement of fatigue strength has been examined experimentally. Test results show that the shot peening significantly increases hardness and roughness in contrast to these without treatment. Also, it has beneficial effects on the fatigue strength enhancement when compared against the test data of the joints with CFRP strengthening. The stiffness degradation during the loading progress is compared with each treatment. Incorporating the stress acting on the constituent parts of the CFRP laminates, a discussion is made regarding the mechanism of the retrofit and related influencing factors such as corrosion and economic cost. This work could enhance the understanding of the CFRP and shot peening in repairing such welded details and shed light on the reinforcement design of welded joints between corrugated steel webs and flange plates.  相似文献

The results of experimental research on lateral-torsional buckling of steel plate girders with slender web subjected to fire conditions are presented in this paper. The scope of the research covers four girders, three of which have been tested under high temperature conditions. The fourth girder has been used to determine the critical load resulting in lateral-torsional buckling of the considered element at room temperature. All the considered elements had identical cross sections and lengths; however, they differed in external temperatures applied and magnitude of measured geometrical imperfections. It has to be highlighted, that the experiments have been conducted subject to the anisothermal conditions, taking into account the uneven distribution of temperature in the cross section. An approach of this type represents a more accurate modelling of the structural component behaviour, when subjected to fire, as compared to the experiments conducted under isothermal conditions. Complete information on the development of research stand, conduct and results of particular tests are presented in this paper. The temperature–time curves for girder components, results of imperfection measurements and mechanical properties of steel are presented. The obtained critical temperatures and graphs of girder top flange horizontal deflection versus temperature are also included. The computer models developed for analysed girders are described in the paper as well. The results obtained with these models have been compared with experimental results. The computational models validated in this way constitute a basis for further parametric studies of lateral-torsional buckling in the domain of steel plate girders with slender web when subjected to fire conditions.  相似文献

Aim: Self‐expandable metallic stents (SEMS) for the gastrointestinal tract have different types of flanges at either the oral end or both ends to prevent stent migration. The effect of flange shape on the properties of SEMS, to our knowledge, has not been evaluated. The aim of this study was to measure the strain that a SEMS imposes on the adjacent wall and the anti‐migration force (AF) exerted by three stents, each with a different flange shape. Methods: Stents with one of three different flanges (flared, dumbbell, and barrel) were designed and then their strain and AF values were measured with apparatuses devised in our laboratory. Results: Although the average maximal strain values at the flange were similar (508.4 µm/m, 513.3 µm/m and 486.4 µm/m for flared, dumbbell and barrel, respectively), strain values for each position differed among the three different types of stents. Strain values for the flared shape increased toward the stent end, reaching the maximum value. Maximal strain values for the dumbbell and barrel shapes were observed near the flange's midpoint. Maximal AF values differed significantly according to flange shape. Thus, the median maximal AF values were 1.85 newton, 1.35 newton, and 1.13 newton, for barrel, dumbbell and flared shapes, respectively. Conclusions: The performance of braided esophageal SEMS with barrel shaped flanges is superior to that of SEMS with dumbbell or flared flanges, based on the strain on the adjacent wall and the prevention of stent migration.  相似文献

A new S600E sorbite stainless steel (SS), which performs outstanding mechanical properties, was introduced in a plate girder to enhance the resistant performance and durability. The resistance from the flange for S600E sorbite SS plate girders developing post-buckling capacity was investigated through numerical analyses, which included the material and geometrical nonlinearity. The value of distance between plastic hinges performed significant effects on resistance from flange. There was a certain distribution range of the flange plastic hinge. Hence, it was difficult to determine the value of distance between plastic hinges accurately based merely on the failure behavior. Considering the theoretical basis of EN 1993-1-4: 2006+A1, the new methods to obtain resistance from the flange and determine the value of distance between the plastic hinges were proposed to avoid the aforementioned error. The parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of key parameters on the resistance from the flange. To take the above effect into account, a correction factor was proposed for the design equation in EN 1993-1-4: 2006+A1 to predict the distance between flange plastic hinges accurately. The comparison was conducted to validate the accuracy of the proposed equations. The results indicated that the new modified equation could be used to predict the resistance from the flange of the S600E sorbite SS plate girder more accurately.  相似文献

The size effect on plain concrete specimens is well known and can be correctly captured when performing numerical simulations by using a well characterised softening function. Nevertheless, in the case of polyolefin-fibre-reinforced concrete (PFRC), this is not directly applicable, since using only diagram cannot capture the material behaviour on elements with different sizes due to dependence of the orientation factor of the fibres with the size of the specimen. In previous works, the use of a trilinear softening diagram proved to be very convenient for reproducing fracture of polyolefin-fibre-reinforced concrete elements, but only if it is previously adapted for each specimen size. In this work, a predictive methodology is used to reproduce fracture of polyolefin-fibre-reinforced concrete specimens of different sizes under three-point bending. Fracture is reproduced by means of a well-known embedded cohesive model, with a trilinear softening function that is defined specifically for each specimen size. The fundamental points of these softening functions are defined a priori by using empirical expressions proposed in past works, based on an extensive experimental background. Therefore, the numerical results are obtained in a predictive manner and then compared with a previous experimental campaign in which PFRC notched specimens of different sizes were tested with a three-point bending test setup, showing that this approach properly captures the size effect, although some values of the fundamental points in the trilinear diagram could be defined more accurately.  相似文献
