Tungsten heavy alloys are two-phase metal matrix composites that include W–Ni–Fe and W–Ni–Cu. The significant feature of these alloys is their ability to acquire both strength and ductility. In order to improve the mechanical properties of the basic alloy and to limit or avoid the need for post-processing techniques, other elements are doped with the alloy and performance studies are carried out. This work focuses on the developments through the years in improving the performance of the classical tungsten heavy alloy of W–Ni–Fe through doping of other elements. The influence of the percentage addition of rare earth elements of yttrium, lanthanum, and their oxides and refractory metals such as rhenium, tantalum, and molybdenum on the mechanical properties of the heavy alloy is critically analyzed. Based on the microstructural and property evaluation, the effects of adding the elements at various proportions are discussed. The addition of molybdenum and rhenium to the heavy alloy gives good strength and ductility. The oxides of yttrium, when added in a small quantity, help to reduce the tungsten’s grain size and obtain good tensile and compressive strengths at high temperatures.  相似文献

Effects of different rare earth elements on the degradation and mechanical properties of the ECAP (equal channel angular pressing) extruded Mg alloys were investigated in this work. Microstructural characterization, thermodynamic calculation, a tensile test, an electrochemical test, an immersion test, a hydrogen evolution test and a cytotoxicity test were carried out. The results showed that yttrium addition was beneficial to the improvement of the alloy’s strength, and the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and yield strength (YS) values of the ECAPed Mg-2Zn-0.5Y-0.5Zr alloy reached 315 MPa and 295 MPa, respectively. In addition, Nd was beneficial to the corrosion resistance, for which, the corrosion rate of the ECAPed Mg-2Zn-0.5Nd-0.5Zr alloy was observed to be 0.42 ± 0.04 mm/year in Hank’s solution after 14 days of immersion. Gd was moderate in improving both the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Moreover, after co-culturing with murine calvarial preosteoblasts (MC3T3-E1) cells, the ECAPed Mg-2Zn-0.5RE (Nd, Gd, Y)-0.5Zr alloys exhibited good cytocompatibility with a grade 1 cytotoxicity. Consequently, the ECAPed Mg-2Zn-0.5Nd-0.5Zr alloy showed the best application prospect in the field of orthopedics.  相似文献

This paper refers to the structural and magnetic properties of [(Fe80Nb6B14)0.88Dy0.12]1−xZrx (x = 0; 0.01; 0.02; 0.05; 0.1; 0.2; 0.3; 0.5) alloys obtained by the vacuum mold suction casting method. The analysis of the phase contribution indicated a change in the compositions of the alloys. For x < 0.05, occurrence of the dominant Dy2Fe14B phase was observed, while a further increase in the Zr content led to the increasing contribution of the Fe–Zr compounds and, simultaneously, separation of crystalline Dy. The dilution of (Fe80Nb6B14)0.88Dy0.12 in Zr strongly influenced the magnetization processes of the examined alloys. Generally, with the increasing x parameter, we observed a decrease in coercivity; however, the unexpected increase in magnetic saturation and remanence for x = 0.2 and x = 0.3 was shown and discussed.  相似文献

In this study, the structural, elastic, and thermodynamic properties of DO19 and L12 structured Co3X (X = W, Mo or both W and Mo) and μ structured Co7X6 were investigated using the density functional theory implemented in the pseudo-potential plane wave. The obtained lattice constants were observed to be in good agreement with the available experimental data. With respect to the calculated mechanical properties and Poisson’s ratio, the DO19-Co3X, L12-Co3X, and μ-Co7X6 compounds were noted to be mechanically stable and possessed an optimal ductile behavior; however, L12-Co3X exhibited higher strength and brittleness than DO19-Co3X. Moreover, the quasi-harmonic Debye–Grüneisen approach was confirmed to be valid in describing the temperature-dependent thermodynamic properties of the Co3X and Co7X6 compounds, including heat capacity, vibrational entropy, and Gibbs free energy. Based on the calculated Gibbs free energy of DO19-Co3X and L12-Co7X6, the phase transformation temperatures for DO19-Co3X to L12-Co7X6 were determined and obtained values were noted to match well with the experiment results.  相似文献

Combined with microstructure characterization and properties tests, the effects of Zn contents on the mechanical properties, corrosion behaviors, and microstructural evolution of extruded Al–Li–Cu–Mg–Ag alloys were investigated. The results show that the increase in Zn contents can accelerate hardening kinetics and improve the hardness of peak-aged alloys. The Zn-added alloys present non-recrystallization characteristics combined with partially small recrystallized grains along the grain boundaries, while the T1 phase with finer dimension and higher number density could explain the constantly increasing tensile strength. In addition, increasing Zn contents led to a lower corrosion current density and a shallower maximum intergranular corrosion depth, thus improving the corrosion resistance of the alloys. Zn addition, distributed in the central layer of T1 phases, not only facilitates the precipitation of more T1 phases but also reduces the corrosion potential difference between the T1 phase and the matrix. Therefore, adding 0.57 wt.% Zn to the alloy has an excellent combination of tensile strength and corrosion resistance. The properties induced by Zn under the T8 temper (solid solution treatment + water quenching + 5% pre-strain+ isothermal aging), however, are not as apparent as the T6 temper (solid solution treatment + water quenching + isothermal aging).  相似文献

In this work, the method of electron beam additive manufacturing (EBAM) was used to fabricate a Cu-based alloy possessing a shape memory effect. Electron beam additive technology is especially relevant for copper and its alloys since the process is carried out in a vacuum, which makes it possible to circumvent oxidation. The main purpose of the study was to establish the influence of the printing parameters on the structure of the obtained products, their phase composition, mechanical properties, dry friction behavior, and the structure-phase gradient that formed in Cu–Al–Mn alloy samples during electron beam layer-by-layer printing. The results of the study allowed us to reveal that the structure-phase composition, the mechanical properties, and the tribological performance of the fabricated material are mainly affected by the magnitude of heat input during electron beam additive printing of Cu–Al–Mn alloy. High heat input values led to the formation of the β1′ + α decomposed structure. Low heat input values enabled the suppression of decomposition and the formation of an ordered 1 structure. The microhardness values were distributed on a gradient from 2.0 to 2.75 GPa. Fabricated samples demonstrated different behaviors in friction and wear depending on their composition and structure, with the value of the friction coefficient lying in the range between 0.1 and 0.175.  相似文献

The feasibility and efficacy of improving the mechanical response of Al–Mg–Si 6082 structural alloys during high temperature exposure through the incorporation of a high number of α-dispersoids in the aluminum matrix were investigated. The mechanical response of the alloys was characterized based on the instantaneous high-temperature and residual room-temperature strengths during and after isothermal exposure at various temperatures and durations. When exposed to 200 °C, the yield strength (YS) of the alloys was largely governed by β” precipitates. At 300 °C, β” transformed into coarse β’, thereby leading to the degradation of the instantaneous and residual YSs of the alloys. The strength improvement by the fine and dense dispersoids became evident owing to their complementary strengthening effect. At higher exposure temperatures (350–450 °C), the further improvement of the mechanical response became much more pronounced for the alloy containing fine and dense dispersoids. Its instantaneous YS was improved by 150–180% relative to the base alloy free of dispersoids, and the residual YS was raised by 140% after being exposed to 400–450 °C for 2 h. The results demonstrate that introducing thermally stable dispersoids is a cost-effective and promising approach for improving the mechanical response of aluminum structures during high temperature exposure.  相似文献

Mg alloys have mechanical properties similar to those of human bones, and have been studied extensively because of their potential use in biodegradable medical implants. In this study, the influence of different heat treatment regimens on the microstructure and mechanical and corrosion properties of biodegradable Mg–Zn–Ga alloys was investigated, because Ga is effective in the treatment of disorders associated with accelerated bone loss. Solid–solution heat treatment (SSHT) enhanced the mechanical properties of these alloys, and a low corrosion rate in Hanks’ solution was achieved because of the decrease in the cathodic-phase content after SSHT. Thus, the Mg–4 wt.% Zn–4 wt.% Ga–0.5 wt.% Y alloy after 18 h of SSHT at 350 °C (ultimate tensile strength: 207 MPa; yield strength: 97 MPa; elongation at fracture: 7.5%; corrosion rate: 0.27 mm/year) was recommended for low-loaded orthopedic implants.  相似文献

In the performance optimization of the additive manufacturing of Ti6Al4V components, conventional control methods have difficulty taking into account the requirements of quality and mechanical properties of components, resulting in insufficient mechanical properties and a small control range. Therefore, combining the advantages of porous structure and alloy composition control, this paper proposed a structure–composition composite control method for selective laser-fused titanium alloy components by coupling the effects of porous structure parameters and boron content on the properties of Ti6Al4V components. Based on the Gibson–Ashby formula, the compression test of porous Ti6Al4V alloy and the tensile test of boron-containing Ti6Al4V alloy were carried out by SLM forming technology. The parameters C and n related to the pore parameters of porous structure were solved by the experimental data, and the analytical relationship between the pore parameters and the mechanical properties of Ti6Al4V alloy was established. The analytical relationship between boron content (t wt%) and mechanical properties of the alloy was established by tensile test. Finally, the Gibson–Ashby formula was used to combine the above analytical relationship, and a composite regulation model of compressive strength was obtained. The results show that the control range of the composite model ranges from 19.46–416.47 MPa, which was 45.53% higher than that obtained by controlling only pore parameters, and performance improved by 42.49%. The mechanical properties of the model are verified and the deviation between calculated values and experimental values was less than 1.3%. Taking aviation rocker arm as an example, the optimized design can improve the strength and reduce the mass of rocker arm by 51.94%. This method provides a theoretical basis for expanding the application of Ti6Al4V additive manufacturing components in aerospace and other fields.  相似文献

This study shows the results of Ni replacement with Co in a W-Ni-Co-type tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) in terms of the structure and mechanical properties. Five alloys containing 92 wt. % of tungsten plus Ni and Co changing in the proportions (Co:Ni) of 1:9, 2:8, 3:7, 4:6, and 5:5 were prepared using liquid phase sintering (LPS). The specimens were studied directly after sintering and after solution heat treatment. The tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation were evaluated. The results of tensile tests were supplemented with microhardness measurements of tungsten grains and matrix. Light microscopy was used for the microstructure, and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an EDS attachment was applied for the assessment of the fracture mode and chemical microanalysis. It was concluded that the replacement of Ni with Co led to a tensile property increase that was accompanied by a gradual decrease in elongation that started to be critical for a Co:Ni ratio higher than 4:6.  相似文献

The fractionation of diatomaceous earth (DE) using sedimentation made it possible to obtain separate unbroken diatom fractions from broken or agglomerated bodies with a range of particle sizes. The produced filler was used to prepare polylactide (PLA)/diatomaceous earth biocomposite samples containing different particle sizes, which were subjected to mechanical testing (tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength), colloidal testing (contact angle, color change test, SEM/EDS), and thermal testing (TGA, DSC, DMA). Modification of the PLA containing the smallest particle size with diatomaceous earth (Fraction 5) resulted in a higher impact strength compared to both the pure PLA and the PLA/DE composite that contained base diatomaceous earth. Furthermore, the melt flow rate was improved by more than 80 and 60% for the composite modified with fractionated diatomaceous earth (Fraction 4) compared to pure PLA and base diatomaceous earth, respectively. The elasticity of the composite was also improved from 3.3 GPa for pure polylactide to 4.4 GPa for the system containing the smallest diatomaceous earth particles (Fraction 5).  相似文献

Zinc and its alloys are considered as promising materials for the preparation of biodegradable medical devices (stents and bone fixation screws) due to their enhanced biocompatibility. These materials must achieve an ideal combination of mechanical and corrosion properties that can be influenced by alloying or thermomechanical processes. This paper presents the effects of different mechanical alloying (MA) parameters on the composition of Zn-1Mg powder. At the same time, this study describes the influence of preparation by MA on Zn-6Mg and Zn-16Mg alloys. The selected powders were compacted by the spark plasma sintering (SPS) method. Subsequently, their microstructures were studied and their mechanical properties were tested. The overall process led to a significant grain refinement (629 ± 274 nm for Zn-1Mg) and the formation of new intermetallic phases (Mg2Zn11, MgZn2). The compressive properties of the sintered samples were mainly related to the concentration of the alloying elements, where an increase in concentration led to an improvement in strength but a deterioration in ductility. According to the obtained results, the best properties were obtained for the Zn-1Mg alloy.  相似文献

Isothermal annealing of a eutectic dual phase Ni–Mn–Sn–Fe alloy was carried out to encourage grain growth and investigate the effects of grain size of the γ phase on the martensitic transformation behaviour and mechanical properties of the alloy. It is found that with the increase of the annealing time, the grain size and volume fraction of the γ phase both increased with the annealing time predominantly by the inter-diffusion of Fe and Sn elements between the γ phase and the Heusler matrix. The isothermal anneals resulted in the decrease of the e/a ratio and suppression of the martensitic transformation of the matrix phase. The fine γ phase microstructure with an average grain size of 0.31 μm showed higher fracture strength and ductility values by 28% and 77% compared to the coarse-grained counterpart with an average grain size of 3.31 μm. The fine dual phase microstructure shows a quasi-linear superelasticity of 4.2% and very small stress hysteresis during cyclic loading, while the coarse dual phase counterpart presents degraded superelasticity of 2.6% and large stress hysteresis. These findings indicate that grain size refinement of the γ phase is an effective approach in improving the mechanical and transformation properties of dual phase Heusler alloys.  相似文献

Titanium-20 mass% Silver (Ti-20%Ag) alloy can suppress biofilm formation on the surface. Unlike bactericidal agents, it does not kill bacteria; therefore, the healthy oral microflora remains undisturbed. To utilize the unique functions of this alloy and enable its use in the fabrication of dental prostheses that require relatively high strength, we added copper (Cu) as an alloying element to improve strength. This study aimed to develop ternary Ti-Ag-Cu alloys with excellent mechanical properties and antibiofilm activity. As a result of investigating the mechanical properties of several experimental alloys, the tensile strength, yield strength, and hardness of Ti-20%Ag-1%Cu and Ti-20%Ag-2%Cu alloys were improved by the solid-solution strengthening or hardening of the αTi phase. In addition, these alloys had the same ability to suppress biofilm formation as the Ti-20Ag alloy. Thus, Ti-20%Ag-1–2%Cu alloys can be used for fabrication of narrow-diameter dental implants and prostheses subjected to extremely high force, and these prostheses are useful in preventing post-treatment oral diseases.  相似文献

In this experiment, the rare earth Gd element was added to Finemet alloy to observe the microstructure and soft magnetic properties. The experimental results showed that the samples with the addition of 0.5% Gd and 1.0% Gd can be quenched and cast normally, and the MS of Fe73Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9Gd0.5 alloy was 10.41% higher than that of Finemet. After annealing, crystal grains of about 10 nm were formed. The μi and μm values of Fe73Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9Gd0.5 alloy were 25.51% and 22.23% higher, respectively, and the coercivity HC was reduced by 12.19% compared to Finemet. At 1 kHz, the μe value of Fe73Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9Gd0.5 alloy at room temperature was 14.57% higher than that of Finemet, while the μe reached 162.34 k and 142.42 k at 90 °C and 150 °C (24% and 29.51% higher, respectively). The Fe72.5Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9Gd1.0 alloy had the best performance at 100 kHz, with higher μe values than Finemet across the ambient temperature range of 30 °C to 150 °C. After tension annealing, the μe values of Fe72.5Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9Gd1.0 alloy were 20–30% higher than those of Finemet.  相似文献

A series of novel lightweight TaNbVTi-based refractory high entropy alloys (RHEA) were fabricated through ball-milling and spark plasma sintering (SPS). The reinforced phase of TiO precipitates were in-situ formed due to the introduction of Al2O3 ceramic particles. The RHEA with 15% Al2O3 exhibits a high compressive yield strength (1837 MPa) and a low density (7.75 g/cm3) with an adequate ductility retention. The yield strength and density are 32% higher and 15% lower, respectively, compared to the RHEA without Al2O3 addition. The specific yield strength (237 MPa cm3/g) of the RHEAs is much higher than that of other reported RHEAs, and is mainly ascribed to the introduction of high volume fraction of Al2O3 additives, resulting in solid solution strengthening and precipitation strengthening. Meanwhile, the ductile matrix is responsible for the good compressive plasticity.  相似文献

Single-phase high-entropy alloys with compositionally disordered elemental arrangements have excellent strength, but show a serious embrittlement effect with increasing strength. Precipitation-hardened high-entropy alloys, such as those strengthened by L12-type ordered intermetallics, possess a superior synergy of strength and ductility. In this work, we employ first-principles calculations and thermodynamic simulations to explore the atomic interactions and order–disorder transitions in FeCoNiAl1−xTix high-entropy alloys. Our calculated results indicate that the atomic interactions depend on the atomic size of the alloy components. The thermodynamic stability behaviors of L12 binary intermetallics are quite diverse, while their atomic arrangements are short-range in FeCoNiAl1−xTix high-entropy alloys. Moreover, the order–disorder transition temperatures decrease with increasing Ti content in FeCoNiAl1−xTix high-entropy alloys, the characteristics of order–disorder transition from first-principles calculations are in line with experimental observations and CALPHAD simulations. The results of this work provide a technique strategy for proper control of the order–disorder transitions that can be used for further optimizing the microstructure characteristics as well as the mechanical properties of FeCoNiAl1−xTixhigh-entropy alloys.  相似文献

The existence of a small amount of rare earth metal oxides (REMOs) can greatly affect the structure and function of copper matrix composites owing to improvement of surface and interface properties between REMOs and metal matrix, and there are still some challenges concerning interfaces and complex interfacial reactions. This review summarizes the interfacial characteristics and strengthening mechanisms of REMO-reinforced copper matrix composites, including fabrication methods for solving rare earth metal oxide-dispersion problems and characterization of the microstructure and properties of REMO-reinforced copper matrix composites. In particular, the strengthening effects of various rare earth metal oxide-reinforced copper matrix composites are systematically summarized. The interface characteristics of composites from a thermodynamics standpoint and the strengthening mechanism are emphatically investigated and discussed in order to help unveil design principles and to provide reference for future research of REMO-reinforced copper matrix composites.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to develop a new Al–Mg–Si–Zr alloy with a high magnesium content to achieve a wide range of mechanical properties using heat treatment and at a lower cost. Additive manufacturing was conducted using a powder bed fusion process with various scan speeds to change the volumetric energy density and establish optimal process conditions. In addition, mechanical properties were evaluated using heat treatment under various conditions. The characterization of the microstructure was conducted by scanning electron microscopy with electron backscatter diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The mechanical properties were determined by tensile tests. The as-built specimen showed a yield strength of 447.9 ± 3.6 MPa, a tensile strength of 493.4 ± 6.7 MPa, and an elongation of 9.6 ± 1.1%. Moreover, the mechanical properties could be adjusted according to various heat treatment conditions. Specifically, under the HT1 (low-temperature artificial aging) condition, the ultimate tensile strength increased to 503.2 ± 1.1 MPa, and under the HT2 (high-temperature artificial aging) condition, the yield strength increased to 467 ± 1.3 MPa. It was confirmed that the maximum elongation (14.3 ± 0.8%) was exhibited with the HT3 (soft annealing) heat treatment.  相似文献

We systematically investigated the influence of yttrium (Y) on the evolution behavior of helium (He) in tungsten (W) by first-principles calculations. It is found that the addition of Y reduces the solution energy of He atoms in W. Interestingly, the solution energy of He decreases with decreasing distance between Y and He. The binding energies between Y and He are inversely correlated with the effective charge of He atoms, which can be attributed to the closed shell structure of He. In addition, compared with pure W, the diffusion barrier (0.033 eV) of He with Y is lower, calculated by the climbing-image nudged elastic band (CI-NEB) simulations, reflecting that the existence of Y contributes to the diffusion of He in W. The obtained results provide a theoretical direction for understanding the diffusion of He.  相似文献
