Cultural competence: an evolutionary perspective   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
PROBLEM: The need for conceptual clarity, which is essential for effective communication related to cultural competence. Practice, education, administration, and research are identified. METHODS: Rodgers' (2000) method of concept analysis. FINDINGS: Attributes of cultural competence were identified as cultural awareness, cultural knowledge, cultural understanding, cultural sensitivity, and cultural skill. CONCLUSIONS: Cultural competence can best be identified as a nonlinear dynamic process that is never ending and ever expanding. It is built on increases in knowledge and skill development related to its attributes.  相似文献

Nursing leadership from the perspective of clinical group supervision: a paradoxical practice Aim Increase understanding of nursing leadership in group clinical supervision (CS). Background Leadership in CS has received little interest besides the theories in use and administrative CS. Method Hermeneutic interpretation of written narratives of 24 clinical nurse supervisors. Results Continuity in structuring, story and mission and reflection in group and leadership processes and theories of nursing and caring characterize leadership in CS. Leadership by inhibiting and creating fear, inapproachability and indistinctiveness were patterns in content brought to CS. Supervision when leadership was involved illuminated a reflexive change in focus from leadership to nursing care, from particular experiences to nursing and caring science, and from the unfamiliar to the well known and the well known to the unknown. Conclusions Continuity and reflective changes using nursing and caring theories seem to be core ideas of nursing leadership from the perspective of CS. The poles of separation and communion show opposites of nursing leadership as it is illuminated in CS. The findings add knowledge to Bondas’ theory of caritative leadership. Implications for nursing management CS is a reflexive practice of support and guidance that seems to have an impact on the trajectory of nursing care and staff development using nursing and caring theories.  相似文献

Management and leadership in nursing: an Australian educational perspective Aim In this article, we present an Australian perspective on issues influencing management and leadership education in nursing. Background Nurse leaders and managers work in a context of high pressure, uncertainty and rapid change, and face unprecedented challenges on a daily basis. Evaluation and Key Issues In the present paper, we reflect on the issues and challenges facing providers of management education for nursing, and consider these challenges in relationship to current trends and imperatives. Conclusions Collaborative approaches between educational and clinical settings are needed to ensure quality, relevant educational support for managers and leaders, and enhance curriculum integrity. Implications for Nursing Management There is a need for contemporaneous and relevant research to inform innovative models of collaborative education.  相似文献

The Art of Chaortic Leadership is from an article by Dee Houck that first appeared as “The Art of Chaortic Leadership” (Chapter 7) in On Mission and Leadership. Chaortic leadership is a term that highlights the link between chaos and order. It allows the class to understand the role and effect that chaos has in the field of health care and helps students to understand how you can bring about order in any chaotic situation. Chaortic leadership skills are something that every radiology nurse and nurse manager must have to understand and survive in the ever-changing chaotic world of radiology nursing. It helps you to understand the sources of chaos in radiology, your role in chaos, and steps you can take to manage chaos in your department. Even though there have been radiology nurses for over 20 years, the role of the radiology nurse is to provide stability and continuity (order) to patient care, but, in the radiology environment, we are a source of chaos unto ourselves. The presenter gave an overview of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, a 500-bed regional trauma center and a top hospital in the country according to US News and World Report. The presenter discussed chaortic leadership theory and practice that was first described by Dee Houck and showed how to apply the principles of chaortic leadership. Finally, the presenter discussed strategies for success as a radiology nurse when working in a small facility and for radiology nursing leaders whether they are supervisors of a small staff or managers of a large diagnostic and interventional department.  相似文献

AimThe purpose of this study was to define crisis leadership in the nursing context.BackgroundLeadership during critical situations is perhaps the most crucial element for crisis resolution.MethodsRodgers' evolutionary approach was used to conduct a concept analysis on crisis leadership and find its critical attributes, antecedents, and consequences. The researchers examined articles published in English and Korean from six databases. Articles from 2000 to 2016—with the key terms of crisis leadership, crisis management, crisis intervention, crisis, and disaster—were considered for analysis. Eleven studies were included in the final review.ResultsThe core attributes of crisis leadership from a nursing perspective consisted of six attributes: clear, fast, frank communication; a high degree of collaboration; sharing of information; decision-making and fair prioritization; building trust; competency.ConclusionsBased on this review, crisis leadership should be revised to focus on competency, nursing interventions, measurement tools, and training protocol development.  相似文献
