Background:?Rheumatic mitral stenosis severity has been assessed by the systolic time interval between the QRS onset and the first heart sound (QS1) by phonocardiography. We hypothesized that non-invasive computerized acoustic cardiography could evaluate mitral stenosis severity compared with echocardiography and invasive haemodynamics in patients undergoing percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy (PTMC).

Methods:?27 patients underwent computerized acoustic cardiography, echocardiography, and invasive haemodynamic measurements prior to and after PTMC.

Results:?The mean age was 31?±?10 years, and 21 (78%) were female. By echocardiography, mitral valve area increased from 0.82?±?0.14 to 1.50?±?0.24 cm2 (p?<?0.0001). The QS1 interval decreased from 101.7?±?12.9 to 93.2?±?9.2?ms (p?<?0.0001). The change in the QS1 interval correlated with the change in mitral valve area by echocardiography (p?=?0.037), right ventricular systolic pressure (p?<?0.0001), and the invasive mitral valve gradient (p?=?0.076).

Conclusions:?Acoustic cardiography may be used as an adjunctive non-invasive diagnostic tool to assess mitral stenosis severity.  相似文献

Background: Besides body mass index (BMI), new parameters have been developed to classify individual body shape.

Aim: To investigate the relationship between BMI, waist circumference (WC), a body shape index (ABSI) and ABSI-adolescents among adolescents and verify which would better predict lower adiponectin/leptin (A/L) ratio and disturbances on glucose metabolism.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study with 197 Brazilian adolescents of 14–18?years. Serum leptin, adiponectin, glucose and insulin were measured. A/L ratio, ABSI, ABSI-adolescents, BMI, homeostasis model assessment estimates of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and β-cell function (HOMA-β) and the quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (QUICKI) were calculated.

Results: ABSI-adolescents positively correlated with WC (r?=?0.83, p?r?=?0.66, p?r?=?0.95, p?p?r?=??0.63, p?p?r?=??0.75; HOMA-IR: r?=?0.76; HOMA-β: r?=?0.77; insulin: r?=?0.79). Associations were confirmed by linear regression analysis, adjusted for sex and age.

Conclusions: ABSI-adolescents, but not ABSI, was related to A/L ratio and to markers of glucose metabolism, but not more strongly than BMI and WC.  相似文献

Abstract

Despite their enhanced marketplace visibility, validity of wearable photoplethysmographic heart rate monitoring is scarce. Forty-seven healthy participants performed seven, 6-min exercise bouts and completed a valid skin type scale. Participants wore an Omron HR500U (OHR) and a Mio Alpha (MA), two commercial wearable photoplethysmographic heart rate monitors. Data were compared to a Polar RS800CX (PRS). Means and error were calculated between devices using minutes 2–5. Compared to PRS, MA data was significantly different in walking, biking (2.41?±?3.99?bpm and 3.26?±?11.38?bpm, p?<?0.05) and weight lifting (23.30?±?31.94?bpm, p?<?0.01). OHR differed from PRS in walking (4.95?±?7.53?bpm, p?<?0.05) and weight lifting (4.67?±?8.95?bpm, p?<?0.05). MA during elliptical, stair climbing and biking conditions demonstrated a strong correlation between jogging speed and error (r?=?0.55, p?<?0.0001), and showed differences in participants with less photosensitive skin.  相似文献

Abstract

Aim: To investigate associations between physiological neonatal weight loss on the 1st–5th day and physical indices from birth up to the age of 17 years.

Methods: Data were derived from the personal health records of healthy, full-term and breastfed children born in Vilnius in 1990 and 1996. Five hundred and thirty children (289 boys and 241 girls) who left a maternity unit on the 1st–5th day after birth were included in the analysis.

Results: Infants left the maternity unit on day 4.62?±?2.33. On the day of leaving a maternity unit, infants lost 105.06?±?130.48 g (2.85?±?3.65%) of birth weight. Girls who did not lose or gained weight after birth had already weighed less at birth (3163?±?547 and 3490?±?403 g, respectively, p?<?0.01) and remained lighter up to the age of 17 years (54.3?±?8.7 and 60.8?±?10.1?kg at the age of 17 years respectively, p?<?0.001). Girls who did not lose or gained weight after birth were also shorter than those who lost weight (164.3?±?5.7 and 168.6?±?5.4?cm at the age of 17 years, respectively, p?<?0.001).

Conclusion: Girls who did not lose or gained weight immediately after birth tended to remain shorter and lighter during childhood and adolescence. Only a few statistically significant differences were obtained in boys.  相似文献

Abstract

Background: Anti-dense fine speckled 70 (DFS70) autoantibodies have more often been described in apparently healthy individuals than in patients with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARD). The aim of this study was to explore the link between anti-DFS70 autoantibodies and vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels in an Italian adult cohort.

Methods: Serum samples from 34 (five males and 29 females) anti-DFS70 positive patients (index cases), 34 ANA-negative healthy controls, 34 ANA-positive anti-DFS70 negative SLE patients, both groups age- and gender-matched with the index cases, 23 ANA-positive anti-DFS70 negative healthy blood donors and six female SARD patients showing mixed DFS positive pattern were collected and tested for 25(OH)D levels. Relevant demographics and lifestyle practices, body mass index (BMI), comorbidities, and use of medication were recorded for patients and healthy controls.

Results: Mean serum levels of 25(OH)D were significantly higher in anti-DFS70 positive subjects (mean?±?SD: 22.1?±?9.8?ng/ml) than in ANA-negative healthy controls (mean?±?SD: 17.3?±?6.7?ng/ml; p?=?.03), ANA-positive healthy controls (mean?±?SD: 15.2?±?6.8?ng/ml; p?=?.01), SLE patients (16.6?±?11.0?ng/ml; p?=?.01) and in patients with SARD (15.0?±?5.6?ng/ml; p?=?.01). No statistically relevant differences in BMI, clinical, or demographic parameters were found.

Conclusions: Our findings showed higher levels of vitamin D in anti-DFS70 positive subjects than in the controls, which is compatible with the hypothesis of the “benign” nature of anti-DFS70 antibodies.  相似文献

Background: Exercise training has been shown to be an effective strategy to balance oxidative stress status; however, this is underexplored in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).

Objective: To evaluate the effects of exercise training on oxidative stress in PLWHA receiving antiretroviral therapy.

Methods: Patients performed 24 sessions (3 times per week, 8 weeks) of either aerobic (AT), resistance (RT), or concurrent training (CT). Glutathione disulphide to glutathione ratio (GSSG/GSH) in circulating erythrocytes and thiobarbituric acid–reactive substances (TBARS) in plasma samples were assessed as oxidative stress markers. Eight PLWAH completed the training protocol (AT =3, RT =3, CT =2). The GSSG/GSH and TBARS values were logarithmically transformed to approximate a normal distribution. A paired t-test was used to determine the differences between baseline and post-training values.

Results: Data-pooled analysis showed a decrease in GSSG/GSH and TBARS after the training period: log GSSG/GSH= –1.26?±?0.57 versus –1.54?±?0.65, p?=?.01 and log TBARS =0.73?±?0.35 versus 0.43?±?0.21, p?=?.01. This was paralleled by a rise in peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak?=?29.14?±?5.34 versus 32.48?±?5.75?ml kg?1 min?1, p?=?.04). All the subjects who performed resistance exercises showed an average gain of 37?±?8% in muscle strength with no difference between performing single or multiple sets in terms of muscle strength gain. The results reinforce the clinical importance of exercise as a rehabilitation intervention for PLWHA and emphasizes the safety of exercise at the physiological level with the potential to mediate health outcomes.  相似文献

Context: Sulfur mustard (SM) is a lipophilic and reactive chemical compound that targets human airway system.

Objective: Glutathione (GSH) depletion, oxidative stress (OS) status, and changes in expression of GSH-dependent antioxidant enzymes were considered in human mustard lungs.

Materials and methods: Lung biopsies and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) were collected from non-exposed (n?=?10) individuals and SM-exposed patients (n?=?12). Alterations in expression of GSH-dependent enzymes were studied using RT2 Profiler? PCR array. OS was evaluated by determining BAL fluid levels of total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), and GSH.

Results: Mean TAC (0.142?±?0.027?µmol/l) and GSH (4.98?±?1.02?nmol/l) in BAL fluids of control group was significantly higher (p?p?=?.001) higher than that in controls (0.49?±?0.048?nmol/l). Glutathione peroxidases (GPXs), glutathione-s-transferases (GSTs), and glutathione synthetase (GSS) enzymes were overexpressed in mustard lung biopsies, while glutathione reductase (GSR) was significantly downregulated (14.95-fold).

Conclusions: GSH depletion induced by GSR downregulation may be a major mechanism of SM toxicity on human lung. Despite overexpression of GSTs and GPXs genes, GSH depletion may decline the productivity of these enzymes and total antioxidants capacity, which is associated with OS.  相似文献

Abstract

Objective: Validation of body adiposity index (BAI) in a paediatrics sample; and to develop, if necessary, a valid BAI for paediatrics (i.e. BAIp).

Methods: A total of 1615 children (52% boys) aged 5–12 years underwent anthropometry. Their body composition was assessed using a foot-to-foot bioimpedance. The validity of BAI?=?(Hip circumference/Height1.5)???18 was tested by combining correlation and agreement statistics. Then, the sample was split into two sub-samples for the construction of BAIp. A regression was used to compute the prediction equation for BAIp-based percentage of body fat (%BF).

Results: The initial BAI over-estimated the %BF of children by 49% (29.6?±?4.2% versus 19.8?±?6.8%; p?<?0.0001). The original methodology led to a BAIp?=?(Hip circumference/Height0.8) ? 38 in children. When compared to BAI, BAIp showed both better correlation (r?=?0.57; p?<?0.01 versus r?=?0.74; p?<?0.0001) and agreement (ICC?=?0.34; [95% CI?=??0.19–0.65] versus ICC?=?0.83; [95% CI?=?0.81–0.84]). However, there were some systematic biases between the two values of %BF as exemplified by the large 95% limit of agreement [?9.1%; 8.8%] obtained.

Conclusion: BAI over-estimates the %BF in children. In contrast, BAIp appears as a new index for children’s body fatness, with acceptable accuracy. In its current form, this index is valid only for large-scale studies.  相似文献

Abstract

Purpose: To examine the relationship between physical activity and energy demands in children and adolescents with highly active lifestyles.

Methods: Physical activity patterns of 30 rural Kenyan children and adolescents (14?±?1 years, mean?±?SD) with median body mass index (BMI) z-score?=??1.06 [?3.29–0.67] median [range] were assessed by accelerometry over 1 week. Daily energy expenditure (DEE), activity-induced energy expenditure (AEE) and physical activity level (PAL) were simultaneously determined using doubly-labelled water (DLW). Active commuting to school was assessed by global positioning system.

Results: Mean DEE, AEE and PAL were 12.2?±?3.4, 5.7?±?3.0?MJ/day and 2.3?±?0.6, respectively. A model combining body mass, average accelerometer counts per minute and time in light activities predicted 45% of the variance in DEE (p?<?0.05) with a standard error of DEE estimate of 2.7?MJ/day. Furthermore, AEE accounted for ~47% of DEE. Distance to school was not related to variation in DEE, AEE or PAL and there was no association between active commuting and adiposity.

Conclusion: High physical activity levels were associated with much higher levels of energy expenditure than observed in Western societies. These results oppose the concept of physical activity being stable and constrained in humans.  相似文献

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to investigate if bioelectrical signals, generated from trunk muscles identified in an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal presented in this paper as ECG-Trunk Muscles Signals amplitude (Ecg-TMSA) are correlated with Heart rate (HR) during different levels of physical activity and also if Ecg-TMSA is not influenced by mental activity. HR and Ecg-TMSA were derived from ECG in 14 subjects when walking and jogging at different treadmill velocities from 4–10 (km?h?1). The mean relationship for all 14 subjects was HR?=?(42.3?±?0.2)?+?(45.3?±?2.8) Ecg-TMSA, r2?=?0.91. The result of one individual data points example for a 21?min experiment was (r2?=?0.93, p?<?0.0001, n?=?336). The obtained results show a linear relationship between Ecg-TMSA and HR. Background: Radiographic study of developing teeth provides a reliable indication of chronological age. In Kenya, dentists are often required to estimate age. However, there is a paucity of publications on the performance of dental age estimation methods.

Aim: To determine the accuracy of Willems’ method of dental age estimation.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study was done at The University of Nairobi Dental Hospital. Panoramic radiographs of children aged 3.00–16.99 years old were studied. Dental age was estimated according to Willems’ method and compared to chronological age and the difference compared to zero using a t-test.

Results: Radiographs of 187 (47%) females and 214 (53%) males were analysed. Willems’ method significantly over-estimated the mean overall age by –0.24?±?1.17 years (p?p?=?.254); however, age in boys was significantly over-estimated by –0.37?±?1.14 years (p?Conclusions: Willem’s model over-estimated dental age slightly and the method performed better in estimating the age of girls compared to boys. The majority of the children had their age estimated within 1 year of their chronological age. Background: A double burden of both under- and over-nutrition exists among South African children.

Aim: To describe associations between nutritional statuses and health-related fitness test performances.

Subjects and methods: Height and weight of 10 285 children (6–13 years; n?=?5604 boys and 4681 girls) were measured and used to calculate body mass index (BMI) and prevalence of overweight and obesity, stunting, wasting and underweight. Physical fitness scores for standing long jump, shuttle run, sit-and-reach, sit-up (EUROFIT) and cricket ball throw were assessed. Age- and gender-specific z-scores were calculated for these variables. Physical fitness for each nutritional status group was compared to children of normal weight.

Results: Compared to normal weight children, overweight and obese children scored lower on all fitness tests (p?p?=?.235) and sit-and-reach (p?=?.015). Stunted and underweight children performed poorer than normal weight children on most fitness tests (p?p?=?.829; underweight: p?=?.538) and shuttle run (underweight: p?=?.017). Performance of wasted children was not as highly compromised as other under-nourished groups, but they performed poorer on the cricket ball throw (p?Conclusions: When compared to normal weight children, both under- and over-nourished children performed poorer on some, but not all, health-related fitness tests.  相似文献

A quaternary ammonium methacrylate polymer (QAMP) with antimicrobial potential was synthesized. The resulting product (QAMP) was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, visible spectrophotometry, XRPD and TGA. The in vitro susceptibility tests against Streptococcus mutans of QAMP were investigated prior and after incorporation into a commercial adhesive system (Clearfil? SE Bond). The release of quaternary ammonium compounds from the experimental adhesive system (Clearfil? SE Bond?+?5% QAMP) was performed during 1, 7, 14, 21 and 30 days. Spectroscopic data confirmed that QAMP was successfully obtained. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that QAMP was heat stable. Prior incorporation into the adhesive system, QAMP revealed an inhibition halo of 18.33?±?0.6?mm. By agar disk diffusion test, Clearfil? SE Bond containing 5% QAMP presented an inhibition halo (16.67?±?1.5?mm) similar to Clearfil? Protect Bond (positive control, 17.00?±?1.7, p?=?0.815) and significantly higher than Clearfil? SE Bond (negative control, 11.00?±?1.0, p?=?0.006). The minimum inhibitory/bactericidal concentrations for Clearfil? SE Bond containing 5% QAMP were 20?μL?mL?1. The release of quaternary ammonium compounds from the experimental adhesive containing QAMP was very low (5.1%) when compared to Clearfil? Protect Bond that released 47.2% of its quaternary ammonium monomer (MDPB) after 30 days. The QAMP can offer enhanced antimicrobial properties for self-etching adhesive systems.  相似文献

Purpose

Growth arrest-specific protein 6 (Gas6) has been suggested to be a biomarker of disease activity in patients with systemic lupus erthematosus (SLE). We investigated the clinical significance of this protein in Korean SLE.

Methods

Blood samples were collected from 150 SLE patients and 50 normal controls (NC). In addition, follow-up samples were collected from 50 SLE patients.

Results

Serum Gas6 levels of SLE patients (43.01?±?28.02 ng/mL) were higher than those of NC (20.15?±?9.23 ng/mL, p?<?0.001). When evaluated sensitivity and specificity of the Gas6 for diagnosing SLE using ROC curves, the sensitivity and specificity were 72.7 % and 84 % with a cut-off value of 25.3 ng/mL. In the ROC analysis of Gas6, anti-dsDNA antibody, ESR, complement 3 and complement 4 to identify patients with active lupus, area under the curve (AUC) of Gas6 was highest with 0.763. Serum Gas6 levels were significantly higher in the patients with serositis (70.04?±?30.85 ng/mL) and renal disorder (65.66 ±32.28 ng/mL) compared to those without (41.88?±?27.44 ng/mL, p?=?0.033, 40.3?±?26.33 ng/mL, p?=?0.001, respectively). Gas6 levels were correlated positively with anti-dsDNA antibody (r?=?0.199, p?=?0.015), ESR (r?=?0.204, p?=?0.013) and SLEDAI (r?=?0.512, p?<?0.001). In addition, serum Gas6 levels were correlated negatively with hemoglobin (r?=??0.165, p?=?0.043), lymphocyte count (r?=??0.165, p?=?0.043), complement 3 (r?=??0.343, p?<?0.001) and complement 4 (r?=??0.316, p?<?0.001). Furthermore, change in serum Gas6 levels was correlated with change in SLEDAI levels in the SLE patients that were followed up (r?=?0.524, p?<?0.001).

Conclusion

These results suggest that serum Gas6 can be a reliable clinical marker for monitoring disease activity and treatment response in SLE.  相似文献

Abstract

The aim of this investigations was to study the effectiveness of anti-CD20 antibody therapy in Graves’ orbitopathy (GO) resistant to glucocorticoids. Five patients were entered in the study. The protocol required no improvement of orbital status after a recent course of glucocorticoids. Activity of GO was confirmed by three independent techniques: clinical activity score (CAS), 99mTc-labeled diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (99mTc DTPA) single photon emission computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Rituximab (RTX) was given as weekly infusions of 375?mg/m2 body surface area for four weeks. The mean follow-up period was 67 (range 58–81) months. Improvement of GO has been observed in all patients: CAS before therapy was 6.5?±?1.7 and decreased to 3.4?±?1.6 by one month (p?<?0.05) and remained unchanged (3.2?±?1.7) at 12 months. No further CAS change, in either direction, was detected during the yearly follow-up visits. The mean DTPA uptake before therapy was 16.52?±?4.51?MBq/cm3 and decreased to 11.97?±?2.36?MBq/cm3 at one year (p?<?0.002). The mean of T2 relaxation times before and one year after therapy were 96.91?±?17.61?ms and 84.29?±?9.41?ms, respectively (p?<?0.001). The mean serum TSH receptor antibody (TRAb) levels before therapy, at the one month and one year control visits were 7.4?±?3.4?U/L, 5.6?±?4.5?U/L and 1.7?±?1.5?U/L, respectively (p?<?0.004). No correlation between changes of TRAb and activity parameters has been found. Anti-CD20 treatment seems to influence positively the clinical course of GO, and this effect seems to be stable for five years. Background: Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and physical activity (PA) seem to have positive effects on academic achievement (AA), although in most studies, objective methods of assessment have not been used.

Aim: To examine the associations of CRF and PA with AA.

Subjects and methods: A sample of 640 youngsters (10–18?years) participated in this cross-sectional study. CRF was estimated with the 20-metre shuttle run test and PA was measured using accelerometers. School grades were used to describe AA using mathematics and native language final grades. The relationship between CRF and PA with AA was analysed using ANCOVA.

Results: Results show a significant effect of CRF levels on native language grades, after adjustment for confounders [F(3,414)?=?3,99 p?F(3,360)?=?0.95 p?>?0.05]. No significant effects of PA levels on AA were found.

Conclusions: CRF is associated with moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) and higher levels of CRF may influence AA. CRF is positively correlated with MVPA, suggesting that higher amounts of MVPA might improve CRF and indirectly influence AA. Since CRF is dependent on higher intensities of PA, we can suggest a focus on implementing improvement strategies to increase the intensity of physical education lessons.  相似文献

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the genetic effects of PON1 Q192R polymorphism on serum FABP4 levels in Mexican women.

Methods: PON1 Q192R polymorphism was genotyped using a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay and serum FABP4 concentration was measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Results: The distribution of genotype frequencies in the assessed women (PON1 Q192R polymorphism) was QQ?=?20%, QR?=?48% and RR?=?32%. Significantly higher serum FABP4 levels were found in women with genotype QR/RR (20.6?±?2.20?ng/mL), when compared with the levels found in the QQ group (12.8?±?1.70?ng/mL) (p?=?.004). After, the odds ratio (OR) was calculated by binomial logistic regression analysis and a significantly higher OR was found in the QR/RR group when compared with the QQ group (OR?=?3.45; 95% CI?=?1.80–16.50; p?Conclusion: The results support an association between 192R-allele of the PON1 polymorphism (Q192R) and increased serum FABP4 levels (suggested as an early biomarker of CVDs risk) in assessed Mexican women.  相似文献

Aim: To assess serum type III or lambda (λ) interferons (IFN) levels and its clinical and laboratory associations in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: A cross-sectional study including 43 patients with RA (86% females; age 45.3?±?10.3 years) and 43 healthy individuals was performed. Clinical data including disease activity, acute-phase reactants, rheumatoid factor and anticyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies were collected. Serum IFNλ1, IFNλ2, IFNλ3, CXCL8 and anti-mutated citrullinated vimentin (anti-MCV) antibody levels were measured. Results: Patients with RA had higher IFNλ1 (113.5?±?118.6?pg/mL versus 55.9?±?122.3?pg/mL; p?<?0.0001) and IFNλ2 (245.4?±?327.7?pg/mL versus 5.1?±?11.0?pg/mL; p?=?0.009) levels than controls, but not IFNλ3 levels. Notably, IFNλ1 levels were found to be higher in both patients with active disease (124.9?±?135.9?pg/mL; p?<?0.001) and quiescent disease (99.0?±?93.7?pg/mL; p?<?0.01), while IFNλ2 levels were higher only in patients with active disease (264.0?±?356.1?pg/mL; p?=?0.02). A noteworthy association between serum IFNλ1 levels and anti-MCV antibody titers (Spearman's rho coefficient 0.36, 95% CI 0.36 to 0.61; p?=?0.02) was observed. Conclusion: Serum IFNλ1 and IFNλ2 levels are abnormally elevated in patients with RA and the former are linearly associated with circulating anti-MCV antibody levels. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between serum selenium (Se) levels and lipid subfraction among Egyptian type 2 diabetes patients and their association with the severity of the disease. The study was conducted on 60 type 2 diabetic adults with BMI <30 divided according to disease duration into two groups: group 1 with disease duration less than 5 years and group 2 with a disease duration more than 5 years. Thirty age- and sex-matched apparently healthy volunteers were considered as the control group. Serum selenium was measured by atomic absorption spectrometry lipid subfractions including small dense low density lipoprotein (sd LDL) which was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) by high-performance liquid chromatography. All participants do not receive Se supplementation. The mean serum Se level in participants with diabetes was as follows: group 2?=?62.70?±?5.73, group 1?=?70.58?±?4.158, and control subjects?=?79.80?±?5.37 μg/l (p?=?0.00). Se was found to be an independent protective factor with an OR of 0.29 and 95 % CI of 0.06–1.3. Mean serum sd LDL in participants with diabetes was as follows: group 2?=?43.81?±?13.70, group 1?=?25.77?±?5.28, and control group?=?15.99?±?5.32 (p?=?0.00). Correlation study, between studied parameters, revealed positive correlation between sd LDL and apolipoprotein B (Apo B) (r?=?0.730, p?=?0.001). On the other hand, negative correlation was encountered between apolipoprotein A (Apo A) and Apo B (r?=??0.514, p?=?0.001) as well as Apo A and sd LDL (r?=??0.697, p?=?0.001). Selenium correlated negatively with both Apo B (r?=??0.669, p?=?0.001) and sd LDL (r?=??0.671, p?=?0.001) and positively with Apo A (r?=?0.513, p?=?0.001). In a sample of the Egyptian population, low serum Se levels were positively associated with the prevalence of diabetes. Until findings from prospective studies and randomized controlled trials are available, Se intake, including Se supplementation, should be recommended for primary or secondary diabetes prevention in populations with inadequate selenium status.  相似文献
