The purpose of this study was to investigate the spontaneous mandibular arch response to rapid palatal expansion as the sole orthodontic intervention. Particular attention was paid to clinically significant effects and long-term (mean age, 11.3 years) posttreatment stability in 30 Class I malocclusion patients treated during the early and mid mixed dentition. Measurements were made directly on 120 dental casts obtained at 4 assessment stages: pre-expansion (A1), short-term follow-up (A2), progress (A3), and long-term follow up (A4). Comparisons between A1 and A2 showed statistically significant (P < .001) increases for intermolar widths (lingual and occlusal values). During the transition to the permanent dentition, a significant (P < .001) decrease occurred in arch length and arch perimeter. There was a 25% intermolar width (occlusal value) decrease from the initial net gain, whereas the lingual values remained unchanged. Comparisons between A2 and A4 showed an intermolar width (occlusal value) net gain of 50% and a significant (P < .001) decrease for the arch length and arch perimeter. There was remarkable stability in intermolar width (lingual value) and intercanine width (occlusal value), indicating that the increase in the mandibular arch width dimension was in response to the orthopedic effects of rapid palatal expansion in the early and mid-mixed dentition and that the stability was maintained until adulthood.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To determine the protective nature of pellicle towards toothpaste abrasion. METHODS: The enamel region of human enamel-dentine blocks was indented with a Knoop diamond and the profile across the enamel-dentine junction was measured. Blocks were either exposed to deionised water or placed onto intra-oral appliances and worn in the mouth to produce in situ pellicles. This was followed by a 10-day period of tooth brushing experiments. Each day, specimens were brushed with a slurry of either Toothpaste A (RDA=90) or Toothpaste B (RDA=204) for 25 cycles (10s) on a brushing machine. This was repeated three times per day for a total of 750 brushing cycles. Between brushing cycles specimens were returned to water or in situ. The geometry of the Knoop indents and the enamel-dentine profile were re-measured and the enamel and dentine wear calculated. Specimens were also prepared for TEM analyses. RESULTS: The mean enamel wear (microm) for Toothpastes A and B (water) was 0.23 and 0.06, and for Toothpastes A and B (in situ) was 0.03 and 0.08, respectively. The mean dentine wear (microm) for Toothpastes A and B (water) was 5.08 and 6.03, and for Toothpastes A and B (in situ) was 1.94 and 1.70, respectively. For Toothpaste A, the presence of in situ pellicle significantly (p<0.05) reduced enamel and dentine wear compared to water and for Toothpaste B, dentine wear was significantly reduced compared to water. After tooth brushing, residues of the in situ pellicle layer could be detected on enamel and dentine surfaces by TEM analysis. CONCLUSIONS: The study has demonstrated for the first time that the presence of pellicle can significantly reduce toothpaste abrasion.  相似文献

A study comparing bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) and cyclin A as markers of cells in the S-phase in oral precancerous lesions was performed. These were also compared with the growth fraction (GF) as assessed by Ki-67. Biopsies of 15 lesions were obtained, presenting clinically as leukoplakia or erythroplakia of the lateral tongue or floor of mouth. Half of each biopsy was incubated in BrdU and routinely fixed and processed. Sequential sections from each block were cut and stained immunohistochemically with antibodies against the following proteins: BrdU, Ki-67 and cyclin A. Stained sections were quantified and the labelling indices (LI) expressed per 100 of the total nucleated cell population (%) and per millimetre basement length (/mm). The mean LI% for BrdU was 11.24% (SD 2.83), for cyclin A it was 12.76% (SD 3.88) and the GF% was 29.25% (SD 11.88). The mean LI/mm for BrdU was 40.93/mm (SD 11.88), for cyclin A it was 47.59/mm (SD 18.28) and the GF/mm was 110.72/mm (SD 49.30). The BrdU and cyclin A indices were significantly correlated with each other. In the more dysplastic cases, the cyclin A LI was quantitatively much larger than that for BrdU, suggesting that the protein was being overexpressed. It was concluded that as a tool to study the kinetic aspects of the cell cycle in dysplastic lesions cyclin A was limited by the fact that it is overexpressed. In minimally dysplastic lesions and normal epithelia, however, cyclin A may be a viable alternative to BrdU for the study of the S-phase.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tensile bond strength (TBS) of Panavia F resin cement (PF) applied on dentine pre-treated with ED Primer (ED) and Clearfil Liner Bond 2V (CLB) coated with a layer of low-viscosity composite Protect Liner F (PLF) at 10 min, 24 h and 12 months after curing. METHODS: The labial surfaces of 60 bovine lower incisors were ground to obtain a flat dentine surface, allowing a demarcation of a 4.0 mm-diameter area with adhesive tape. The teeth were randomly divided in six groups; ED was applied in groups A I, A II and A III and CLB was applied, followed by PLF, in groups B I, B II and B III. A resin composite rod with a wire loop was luted directly to the prepared surface of each group with PF. The specimens of groups A I and B I were submitted to TBS test after 10 min. Groups A II and B II were submitted to TBS test after 24 h storage and groups A III and B III were submitted to TBS test after 12 months storage. Each specimen was inspected by SEM and classified according to the failure mode. Additionally, two representative specimens of each failure mode were sectioned for a composite/dentine interface SEM evaluation. RESULTS: No significant statistical differences were observed among the groups at 10 min and 24 h. Groups A III and B III presented the lowest TBS values (p<0.05) after 12 months storage. PF on resin-coated dentin (PLF) showed the highest TBS values and was statistically different to PF on dentine for all the groups. The fracture pattern was generally cohesive on the adhesive/hybrid layer for groups A I, A II and A III and cohesive on composite resin for B I, B II and B III. SIGNIFICANCE: The use of a less hydrophilic self-etching system to pre-treat dentine, coating with a low-viscosity composite layer prior luting with resin cement, may provide a protection of the hybridised complex, allowing a dentine seal during the 12 months storage period.  相似文献

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Mechanical retention based on the surface topography is critical for the success of chairside repair of chipped or fractured ceramic prostheses with a composite. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the tensile bond strength of a composite to 3 dental ceramics was affected by surface roughening procedures on the ceramics. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Three ceramics, Eris (ERV), Empress 1 (E1C), and an experimental ceramic (EXC), were used to fabricate 12 rectangular blocks (5 x 5 x 10 mm). After polishing with a series of SiC papers (120 through 1200 grit size), 4 surfaces were created on each ceramic as follows: 1) as-polished (P); 2) airborne-particle abraded with 50 microm Al(2)O(3) (A); 3) etching with 5% hydrofluoric acid gel (E); and 4) a combination of airborne particle abrasion and etching (A/E). An adhesive (Heliobond) was applied on the roughened ceramic surface and a composite (Tetric Ceram) was built-up incrementally. Twelve groups of different ceramic/surface treatment combinations were prepared. Twenty ceramic/composite specimens per group (0.9 x 0.9 x 20 mm) were obtained from each block with a slow speed diamond saw. Each specimen was subjected to a tensile force at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min using a universal testing machine until failure. The mode of failure was determined by scanning electron microscopy. ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test (alpha=.05) were used to analyze the bond strength values. RESULTS: Specimens of all as-polished groups and EXC(A) group separated during sectioning. The mean bond strength values (SDs) in MPa for the remaining groups were as follows: ERV(A): 2.6 (0.8); E1C(A): 2.8 (1.1); ERV(E): 3.1 (1.3); ERV(A/E): 9.3 (1.3); E1C(E): 10.5 (1.5); E1C(A/E):13.5 (3.3); EXC(E): 19.2 (4.7); and EXC(A/E): 23.1 (5.4). ANOVA showed statistically significant differences in the bond strength for both ceramics (P<.0001) and surface treatments (P<.0001). Duncan's analysis yielded following statistical subsets of the bond strength values: EXC > E1C > ERV by ceramic; A/E > E > A by surface treatment. The mode of failure was a combination of adhesive and cohesive failures. CONCLUSION: The tensile bond strength of a composite to ceramic was significantly different depending on the surface topography of ceramic. Among the surfaces investigated, combined surface roughness was the most effective surface topography in terms of the bond strength increase.  相似文献

The established and advanced lesions of juvenile periodontitis-localized form (JP) are predominated by B-lymphocytes and plasma cells. Local immune processes may participate in protective or immunopathologic roles in the pathogenesis of this disease. Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (A.a.) is implicated as a primary etiologic agent in JP. An in vitro gingival explant culture system was utilized to study the specificity of immunoglobulins produced by diseased JP tissues. A dot-immunobinding assay demonstrated that 46% of the supernatant fluids (SF) from explant cultures of diseased tissues (n = 39) were positive for the presence of antibody to A.a. Y4, while 61% of autologous JP sera (n = 39) tested positive. For rapidly progressive (RP) and adult periodontitis (AP) SF, 50% and 40% were positive for A.a. Y4, respectively. Seventeen percent of SF from healthy tissue were positive for A.a. Y4. There was no significant difference between JP SF reactivities to A.a. Y4 when compared to reactivities of SF from AP and RP patients. Only 10% of JP SF were positive for Porphyromonas asaccharolytica, a non-oral control microorganism. The de novo biosynthesis of antibody in JP tissue, reactive with A.a. Y4, was demonstrated with Staph Protein A isolated 14C-labeled IgG (SPAG) and the use of a dot-immunobinding assay and autoradiography. The in vitro gingival tissue explant culture system described provides a useful model for the study of the synthesis and specificity of localized immunoglobulins produced by diseased tissues of JP patients.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: For various clinical applications, polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB) has been used for many years as an antiseptic in medicine. Recently, a 0.04% PHMB mouthwash was shown to inhibit plaque regrowth and to reduce oral bacterial counts. In this study, a 0.12% PHMB mouthrinse (A) was compared with a negative control placebo rinse (10% ethanol, flavour) (B), a positive control 0.12% chlorhexidine rinse (C), and a commercially available mouthrinse containing essential oils (Listerine) (D). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was a double-blind, randomised 4-replicate 4 x 4 Latin square cross-over design in which plaque regrowth was measured. The in vivo antibacterial effect was assessed by taking bacterial counts from the tooth surface and mucosa 4 h after the first rinse with the preparations on day 1 and prior to the clinical examination on day 5. 16 volunteers participated and, on day 1 of each study period, were rendered plaque-free, ceased toothcleaning, and rinsed 2x daily with the allocated mouthrinse. On day 5, plaque was scored and smears were collected according to the protocol. Washout periods were 9 days. Data were analysed using ANOVA with Bonferroni HSD adjustment for multiple comparisons (significance level alpha=0.05). RESULTS: The 0.12% PHMB mouthrinse (A) was significantly more effective in inhibiting plaque than the placebo (B) but no significant differences could be observed between A and 0.12% chlorhexidine (C), or between A and Listerine (D). Bacterial count reductions on the tooth surface with PHMB (A) were significantly greater compared to the placebo (B) after 4 h and significantly greater compared to B and D after 5 days. Chlorhexidine (C) was more effective than A after 5 days. On the mucosa, chlorhexidine (C) was significantly more effective in reducing bacterial counts than the other 3 treatments at both time points investigated. PHMB (A) was significantly more effective in reducing bacterial counts than the placebo (B) after 4 h and after 5 days, and than D after 4 h. CONCLUSION: Consistent with a previous study, a PHMB mouthrinse was shown to inhibit plaque recolonisation and to reduce oral bacterial counts, indicating that PHMB may find applications in the prevention of plaque-associated diseases.  相似文献

The purpose was to aid in determining termination of instrumentation and obturation. A meta-analysis was conducted as to success/failure of different obturation lengths. Inclusion criteria were (a) minimum follow-up of 2 yr, (b) data on obturation length, (c) definition of success/failure, (d) available data on success/failure, (e) radiographic evaluation. Correlations were made as to success/failure as related to length of obturation from the apex. When comparing group A (obturated 0-1 mm from apex) versus group C (obturated past apex) using the DerSimonian and Laird estimates, group A showed a marginally better (p < 0.10) success rate than group C by 28.8%. Group A had better success than group B (obturated >1 mm short); the difference was insignificant. The results were similar after controlling for study quality using a single random effects regression model. In conclusion, the meta-analysis indicated that a better success rate is achieved when treatment includes obturation short of the apex.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the genetic control of the primary antibody response of inbred strains of mice against sonicated extract from Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, a representative periodontal pathogen. Three groups of inbred mice strains, six independent strains, six H-2 congenic strains (B10(H-2b), B10. A (H-2a), B10. BR (H-2k), B10. D2 (H-2d), A/J (H-2a), A. BY (H-2b))nd four intra-H-2 recombinant strains (B10(Kb, I-Ak, I-E-, Db), B10. A (4R) (Kk, I-Ak, I-Eb, Db), B10. A (5R) (Kb, I-Ab, I-Ek, Dd), B10. MBR Kb, I-Ak, I-Ek, Dq] were examined on the basis of serum antibody titers to A. actinomycetemcomitans by the ELISA and of the band appearance by Western blot analysis. The levels of antibody titers varied within the first group and between A/J (H-2a) and A. BY (H-2b) in the second group. Western blot analysis showed two kinds of bands: a) constant bands appearing in all strains and b) specific bands appearing only in the distinct groups of strains. One of the latter kind of band, at 65kDa, was unique to the H-2b strains (B10, B6, A. BY) in the first and second groups and the I-Ab strains (B10 and B10. A (5R] in the third group. These results indicated that the immune response to some antigens of A. actinomycetemcomitans was influenced by the genetic background, and the immune response to some of these, such as the 65kDa antigen, was controlled by the gene in the H-2 complex.  相似文献

AIMS: The aim of the present study was to determine the role of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) on arginase activity in a murine macrophage cell line (RAW264.7 cells) stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The cells were treated with A. actinomycetemcomitans LPS for 24 h. The effects of SQ22536 (an adenylyl cyclase inhibitor), ODQ (a guanylyl cyclase inhibitor), dibutyryl cAMP (a cAMP analog), 8-bromo cyclic guanosine monophosphate (a cGMP analog), forskolin (an adenylyl cylase activator), and cycloheximide (a protein synthesis inhibitor) on arginase activity in A. actinomycetemcomitans LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells were also determined. Arginase activity was assessed in LPS-stimulated cells in the presence of 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX), siguazodan and rolipram [phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors] as well as KT5720 [a protein kinase A (PKA) inhibitor]. RESULTS: Arginase activity in A. actinomycetemcomitans LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells was suppressed by SQ22536 but not ODQ. Enhancement of arginase activity was observed in the presence of cAMP analog or forskolin but not cGMP analog. Cycloheximide blocked arginase activity in the cells in the presence of cAMP analog or forskolin with or without A. actinomycetemcomitans LPS. IBMX augmented arginase activity in A. actinomycetemcomitans LPS-stimulated cells. Rolipram (a PDE4 inhibitor) increased the levels of arginase activity higher than siguazodan (a PDE3 inhibitor) in the antigen-stimulated cells. The effect of cAMP analog or forskolin on arginase activity in the presence or absence of A. actinomycetemcomitans LPS was blocked by the PKA inhibitor (KT5720). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study suggest that A. actinomycetemcomitans LPS may stimulate arginase activity in murine macrophages (RAW264.7 cells) in a cAMP-PKA-dependent pathway.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Verify whether the dimension of a bonded specimen stored prior microtensile testing and its regional variation may affect the resin-dentin bond strength (BS) over time. METHODS: Thirty human third molars had a flat dentin surface exposed and all peripheral enamel removed. Two adhesive systems (Single-Bond and One-Step) were applied and composite resin crowns (Z250) were constructed. Teeth were divided into three groups (n = 5). Group A specimens were sectioned to obtain sticks to be tested in tension (0.5 mm/min) immediately. Group B specimens were stored in water for 6 months, before sectioning and testing. Group C specimens were sectioned; the sticks were stored for 6 months and tested. In groups A and B, the origin of the sticks, periphery and inner regions was controlled. Bond strength (BS) was expressed as an index that considers cohesive failures and estimated values of premature debonded specimens. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (alpha = 0.05) were used to compare groups A, B and C, and a second analytical approach (A and B) employed a two-way ANOVA (time versus regional differences) for each adhesive system. RESULTS: For Single-Bond (SB), the BS for specimens in group A was higher than for groups B and C. For One-Step (OS), the BS in group A was higher than for B, which was in turn higher than for C. In the second group approach, no difference was found when the test was performed immediately; however, after 6 months, the inner sticks from group B showed significantly higher BS. SIGNIFICANCE: (1) The amount of decrease in BS is dependent on the specimen size; (2) the decrease in BS was greater for peripheral specimens than more centrally located specimens.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is a major pathogen in aggressive periodontitis. Our objectives were to determine the periodontal status and occurrence of A. actinomycetemcomitans in family members of subjects with A. actinomycetemcomitans-positive aggressive periodontitis (AgP) and to evaluate the probability of its intrafamilial transmission. METHODS: Of the 300 subjects screened, 66 (22%) had AgP and A. actinomycetemcomitans. Eleven (probands) of these 66 subjects with AgP met the strict inclusion criteria for the study. The study population consisted of 55 subjects, including probands and their family members (N = 44). Two family groups were formed according to whether the proband was a child (N = 7) or a parent (N = 4). Subgingival samples from all subjects were cultured for A. actinomycetemcomitans, and its clonal types were determined by combining serotype and genotype data for each isolate. RESULTS: Among 42 dentate family members, 16 (38%) exhibited periodontitis and eight (50%) had AgP. Periodontitis was found in nine of 12 (75%) of the dentate parents and six of 17 (35%) siblings of the child probands. A. actinomycetemcomitans was detected in 16 of 31 (52%) family members, i.e., one parent and at least one sibling in six families. The child probands shared A. actinomycetemcomitans clonal types with their parents in five of six (83%) families and with their siblings in three of six (50%) families. In the four parent-proband families, A. actinomycetemcomitans occurred in two spouses and all nine children. The parent probands shared A. actinomycetemcomitans clonal types with their spouses in both families and with their children in three of four families. In all families, the likelihood of intrafamilial transmission of A. actinomycetemcomitans was statistically significant. Members of most families (eight of 11, 73%) also harbored additional clonal types of A. actinomycetemcomitans. CONCLUSION: Parents and siblings of an individual with A. actinomycetemcomitans-positive AgP may have an increased susceptibility to periodontitis and shared and/or other clonal types of oral A. actinomycetemcomitans.  相似文献

目的:探讨游离端与非游离端单颗种植体的垂直骨吸收量是否有差异。方法:选择进行种植修复的牙缺失患者50例(50颗种植体),根据牙位分为非游离端缺失组(A组)和游离端缺失组(B组)。一期植入直径4.1 mm、长度不等的种植体,术后3个月进行全瓷冠修复。应用CBCT测量修复后36个月的骨吸收量。采用SPSS 22.0软件包对数据进行统计学分析。结果:随访期间,所有种植体无松动、脱落。A组远中骨吸收量为(0.288±0.183)mm,近中骨吸收量为(0.291±0.136)mm;B组远中骨吸收量为(0.562±0.201)mm,近中骨吸收量为(0.425±0.221)mm。A组平均骨吸收量为(0.289±0.144)mm,B组平均骨吸收量为(0.494±0.182)mm;B组远中骨吸收量显著多于近中骨吸收量(P<0.05),B组平均骨吸收量显著多于A组(P<0.05)。结论:游离端单颗种植体远中骨吸收量显著高于非游离端,提示游离端单颗种植体存在更高的骨吸收风险。  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: The endothelins are a family of small peptides with multiple roles in a variety of tissues. Signaling is mediated through two receptor subtypes, the endothelin A receptor (ET(A)) specific for Et-1 and the non-specific endothelin B receptor (ET(B)). OBJECTIVE: Our goal was to determine the location of immunoreactivity (IR) for ET(A) and ET(B) in developing and mature rat teeth as indicators of endothelin (Et) regulatory sites and to compare this to the Et-1 (ligand)-IR expression patterns. DESIGN: We used immunohistochemistry to study developing and mature rat molars and continuously developing incisors. RESULTS: We demonstrate ET(A), ET(B), and Et-1 expression patterns in teeth, for the first time. ET(A) was found in developing molar root pulp, pulpal vasculature, and preodontoblasts, and then persisted in odontoblasts or cellular cementocytes at the root apices of mature teeth. ET(B) was found at the molar (Hertwig's) root sheath during root formation and in molar ameloblasts, nerve fibers and odontoblasts of immature and mature teeth. In incisors, ET(B)-IR was associated with ameloblasts and the stem cell niche of the cervical loop while ET(A) was located in the substratum layer. Et-1 was found throughout the dental and periodontal tissues with higher concentrations associated with odontoblasts, nerves and incisor layers that expressed ET(B). CONCLUSION: The patterns of ET(A) and ET(B) in teeth differ from each other and from those of adjacent tissues suggesting multiple tooth-specific functions for endothelin during development and mature dental function.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of a veneering composite to 2 differently treated fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) substrates and to a base metal alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A veneering composite (SR Adoro) was bonded to the following substrates: (1) a nickel-chromium base metal alloy (control, group A), (2) an FRC substructure (Vectris) with a flat surface (group B), and (3) an FRC substructure (Vectris) with retentive rods 0.5 x 0.5 mm in cross section and 10 mm in length, positioned parallel to each other at a distance of 0.5 mm (group C). Thirty-nine specimens were fabricated and divided into 3 groups of equal size. All specimens were thermocycled for 5,000 cycles at 5 degrees C and 55 degrees C with dwell time of 30 seconds in each bath. Evaluation of shear bond strength was performed at a constant crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min according to ISO 10477. RESULTS: The mean values for the shear bond strength were 19.29 MPa for the control group (group A), 16.66 MPa for group B, and 16.74 MPa for group C. Despite a tendency to higher bond strength of group A specimens, no statistically significant difference was recorded between the groups (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS: No statistically significant difference was found between the metal and FRC substructures. Retentive rods on the FRO substructure do not seem to increase the bond strength significantly.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of instrument lubricant on the cohesive strength of resin composite layers. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Clear acrylic molds were filled with 3 increments of a hybrid resin composite using a metal instrument. The first increment (shade A2) was inserted to a height of 4 mm and light cured, followed by a 1-mm-high second increment (shade A1). The composite instrument was then wiped with 1 of 7 lubricants before insertion of a 1-mm-high third increment (shade A1): (1) isopropyl alcohol gauze, 70% v/v (AL); (2) acetone (AC); (3) Adper Single Bond Adhesive (SB); (4) One-Step Adhesive (OS); (5) D/E Bonding Resin (DE); (6) Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Adhesive (SP); (7) Tescera Sculpting Resin (TE). No lubricant was used in the control group (CT). A final 4-mm-high increment (shade A2) was inserted and light cured. The blocks were sectioned to obtain 48 sticks for each group. Sticks were fractured with an Instron machine. Statistics were computed using 1-way analysis of variance and Duncan's test. RESULTS: Outcomes were as follows (mean +/- SD, MPa; same letters indicate significant differences at a confidence level of 95%): TE = 96.7A +/- 17.8; SP = 93.6AB +/- 9.6; DE = 93.4AB +/- 16.2; OS = 91.9AB +/- 19.5; AC = 90.1ABC +/- 12.2; SB = 89.9ABC +/- 14.5; AL = 88.8BC +/- 16.8; CT = 84.7C +/- 8.3. CONCLUSIONS: Although the difference between Tescera Sculpting Resin and alcohol was statistically significant, Tescera Sculpting Resin is recommended only for indirect composite restorations. The lubricant used to reduce stickiness between the resin composite used for direct restorations and the composite instrument did not significantly reduce bond strengths.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To identify and quantify the camphorquinone (CQ) used in different brands of composite resins as a function of the shade analyzed. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Filtek Z250 A3 (FZA3), Filtek Z-250 Incisal (FZI), Pyramid Enamel A1 (PEA1), Pyramid Enamel Translucent (PET), Filtek Supreme A3E (FSA3) and Filtek Supreme GT (FSGT) were used. Five hundred milligrams of each resin were weighed and then dissolved in 1.0 ml of methanol. The samples were centrifuged to accelerate the sedimentation of the inorganic particles. 0.8 ml of the supernatant solution was collected with a pipette and assessed under gas chromatography coupled to the mass spectrometer (GC-MS). The results were compared to pure CQ solutions, used as a standard. Student's t-test, (p=0.05) significant at the level of 5%, compared the results of each brand shade. RESULTS: A smaller amount of camphorquinone was found in Filtek Z-250 (FZI) resin incisal shade when compared to (FZA3) A3 shade. On the other hand, Filtek Supreme resin featured a statistically larger camphorquinone amount in the incisal shade. In Pyramid Enamel resin camphorquinone was found only in shade A1, while the photoinitiator used in the Translucent shade was not identified. SIGNIFICANCE: Based on the data obtained, it is possible to conclude that a single composite resin brand may feature differences in amount and type of photoinitiator used.  相似文献

目的比较两种不同参数设置的激光联合氟化物治疗牙本质敏感症的临床效果。方法 60例患者,270颗面磨耗导致牙本质敏感症的患牙,随机分为:Nd:YAG激光治疗(A组)、Er:YAG激光治疗(B组)和多乐氟组(C组),根据激光输出功率不同分为低功率组(A1、A2、B1、B2组),高功率组(A3、A4、B3、B4组),其中A2,A4、B2,B4组为激光与多乐氟联用。采用数字化疼痛评判法(visual analogue scale, VAS)记录其在治疗前、治疗后5 min、1周、1个月、3个月和6个月的牙齿敏感程度,并进行统计学分析。结果各实验组治疗前VAS评分差异无统计学意义;A4组疼痛降低86.9%,明显优于其他实验组(P<0.01);A2、A4组(疼痛分别降低76.9%、86.9%)疗效优于A1、A3组(疼痛分别降低66.6%、73.7%),A3疗效优于A1组(P<0.01);Er:YAG激光治疗组是否联合氟化物治疗或增加输出功率对疗效无明显影响(P>0.05);A1、B1组疼痛降低(66.6%、62%)差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),A3、B3组仅在即刻(70...  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of spreader shape on the quality of obturation. Forty-five single canal teeth with varying degrees of apical curvature were used throughout. The canals were prepared using the step-back technique and obturated with lateral condensation. The teeth were classified into three groups (A, B, and C) and treated as follows. Group A was treated with markedly conical, flat-ended spreaders (A to D; Dentsply-Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland). Group B was treated with slightly conical (15 to 40) sharp-pointed CC-cord spreaders. Group C was treated with CC-cord, slightly conical but flat-ended spreaders. The obturated teeth were decalcified in 7.5% nitric acid to obtain four cross-sections: the first at 2 mm from the apex and then the following three sections at 1-mm intervals. Section thickness was approximately 1 mm. Each section was photographed under a stereoscopic microscope. The following areas were measured on each of the microphotographs using a planimeter: (a) gutta-percha mass, (b) mass of sealer, (c) foreign bodies, and (d) empty spaces. These four areas were added to determine total cross-sectional canal area and then the percent of that area attributable to a and to b + c + d was calculated. The statistical analysis of the data (parametric Student's t test for independent groups) revealed that only in group B was the area occupied by a, the gutta-percha mass, significantly greater at all levels than the area occupied by b + c + d. The clinical performance of two packable posterior composites, Alert (A)—Jeneric/Pentron and SureFil™ (S)—Dentsply, was evaluated in 33 patients. Each patient received one A and one S restoration, resulting in a total of 66 restorations. The restorations were placed by one operator according to the manufacturer’s specifications and were finished and polished after 1 week. Photographs were taken at baseline and after 2 years. Two independent evaluators conducted the clinical evaluation by using modified United States Public Health Service criteria. After 2 years, 60 restorations (30 A and 30 S), 27 class I (16 A and 11 S) and 33 class II (14 A and 19 S) were evaluated in 30 patients. Criterion A for recurrent caries, vitality, and retention was applicable to all 60 restorations. Criterion B was distributed among 40 restorations as follows: surface texture (15 A; 2 S), color (5 A; 6 S), postoperative sensitivity (1 S), marginal discoloration (8 A), marginal adaptation (3 A), and wear resistance (2 A). Data were analyzed using the Exact Fisher and McNemar tests. After 2 years, S showed a significantly better performance than A with respect to surface texture and marginal discoloration. The clinical performance of both materials was considered acceptable over the 2-year period. Further evaluations are necessary for a more in-depth analysis.  相似文献
