Sterile calcium hydrogenophosphate dihydrate (DCPD) (CaHPO4·2H2O), calcium oxide and strontium carbonate powders were mixed in various liquid phases. Among these, ammonium phosphate buffer (0.75 M, pH 6.9) led to a novel strontium-containing calcium phosphate cement. At a 6/2.5/1.5 M ratio and for a liquid to powder ratio (L/P) of 0.5 ml g?1, the initial paste was fluid and remained injectable for 12 min at 25 °C. It was easily obtained by mixing sterile powders and the liquid phase using the push–pull technique, avoiding complex mixing apparatus. The cement set after 15 min at 37 °C and was hard after 1 h. The compressive strength was in the 20 MPa range, a value higher than that generally assigned to trabecular bone (5–15 MPa). This strength appeared sufficient for repairing non-loading sites or reinforcing osteoporotic vertebrae (vertebroplasty). After setting, the initial mixture formed a strontium–calcium-deficient carbonate apatite. The radio-opacity of the resulting cement was three times greater than that of cortical bone because of the presence of strontium ions, a feature that complies with the requirements for vertebroplasty. Furthermore, the cement powder remained stable and retained its properties for at least 4 years. 相似文献

The perinatal period, sensitive for newborn survival, is also one of the most critical moments in human brain development. Perinatal hypoxia due to reduced blood supply to the brain (ischemia) is one of the main causes of neonatal mortality. Brain damage caused by perinatal hypoxia–ischemia (HI) can lead to neuro- and psychological disorders. However, its impact seems to be region-dependent, with the hippocampus being one of the most affected areas. Among the neuronal populations of the hippocampus, some interneuron groups – such as somatostatin- or neuropeptide Y-expressing neurons – seem to be particularly vulnerable. The limited information available about the effects of HI in the hippocampus comes mainly from animal models and adult human studies. This article presents an immunohistochemical analysis of somatostatin (SOM) and neuropeptide Y (NPY) expression in the developing human hippocampus after perinatal HI. Two rostrocaudal sections of the body of the hippocampus were analysed, and the number of immunostained cells in the polymorphic layer of the dentate gyrus (DG) and the pyramidal cell layer and stratum oriens of the CA3, CA2 and CA1 fields of the hippocampus proper were quantified. The results showed a lower density of both neuropeptides in hypoxic compared to control cases. In the HI group, the number of SOM-immunoreactive cell bodies was statistically significantly lower in the pyramidal cell layer and stratum oriens of CA1, while the number of NPY-expressing neurons was statistically lower in the pyramidal cell layer of CA2. Besides, the number of SOM-expressing neurons was significantly higher in the stratum oriens of CA1 compared to that in CA2. In sum, we observed a different vulnerability of SOM- and NPY-containing neurons in the developing human hippocampus following perinatal HI damage. Our results could contribute to a better understanding of the behaviour of these neuronal populations under stressful conditions during the perinatal period. 相似文献

We investigated the effects of a plantar pressure-based tongue-placed electrotactile biofeedback on postural control during quiet standing under normal and altered vestibular and neck proprioceptive conditions. To achieve this goal, 14 young healthy adults were asked to stand upright as immobile as possible with their eyes closed in two Neutral and Extended head postures and two conditions of No-biofeedback and Biofeedback. The underlying principle of the biofeedback consisted of providing supplementary information related to foot sole pressure distribution through a wireless embedded tongue-placed tactile output device. Center of foot pressure (CoP) displacements were recorded using a plantar pressure data acquisition system. Results showed that (1) the Extended head posture yielded increased CoP displacements relative to the Neutral head posture in the No-biofeedback condition, with a greater effect along the anteroposterior than mediolateral axis, whereas (2) no significant difference between the two Neutral and Extended head postures was observed in the Biofeedback condition. The present findings suggested that the availability of the plantar pressure-based tongue-placed electrotactile biofeedback allowed the subjects to suppress the destabilizing effect induced by the disruption of vestibular and neck proprioceptive inputs associated with the head extended posture. These results are discussed according to the sensory re-weighting hypothesis, whereby the CNS would dynamically and selectively adjust the relative contributions of sensory inputs (i.e. the sensory weights) to maintain upright stance depending on the sensory contexts and the neuromuscular constraints acting on the subject. 相似文献

This study measured the relations between tryptophan production, the phytohormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and the metabolism and accumulation of starch during synthetic mutualism between the microalgae Chlorella sorokiniana and the microalgae growth-promoting bacteria Azospirillum brasilense, created by co-immobilization in alginate beads. Experiments used two wild-type A. brasilense strains (Cd and Sp6) and an IAA-attenuated mutant (SpM7918) grown under nitrogen-replete and nitrogen-starved conditions tested under dark, heterotrophic and aerobic growth conditions. Under all incubating conditions, C. sorokiniana, but not A. brasilense, produced tryptophan. A significant correlation between IAA-production by A. brasilense and starch accumulation in C. sorokiniana was found, since the IAA-attenuated mutant was not producing increased starch levels. The highest ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase) activity, starch content and glucose uptake were found during the interaction of A. brasilense wild type strains with the microalgae. When the microalgae were grown alone, they produced only small amounts of starch. Supplementation with synthetic IAA to C. sorokiniana grown alone enhanced the above parameters, but only transiently. Activity of α-amylase decreased under nitrogen-replete conditions, but increased under nitrogen-starved conditions. In summary, this study demonstrated that, during synthetic mutualism, the exchange of tryptophan and IAA between the partners is a mechanism that governs several changes in starch metabolism of C. sorokiniana, yielding an increase in starch content. 相似文献
