Active heating of susliks on emerging from hibernation is closely linked with the intensification of shivering thermogenesis. The effect of portocaval transposition (PCT) on the general hemodynamics was studied in intact dogs and in dogs with experimental vasorenal hypertension. In the experimental dogs the arterial pressure fell after PCT chiefly on account of a decrease in the peripheral vascular resistance to the blood flow. The location of brain-specific protein S-100 was investigated by the indirect Coons' method in neurons and glia ofHelix pomatia. Experiments on susliks showed that the active warming of these animals is closely linked with intensification of shivering heat production at all stages of emergence from hibernation.
