Background: Physical inactivity is one major lifestyle risk factor of mild cognitive impairment with ageing.

Aim: To investigate whether or not potential covariates modulate the association between physical activity (PA) and cognitive impairment in older adults.

Subjects and methods: Data from 10?245 Korean older adults (5817 women) were used.

Results: High PA older adults were younger and longer educated and had lower comorbidity and depression than low PA older adults. Compared with low PA men, moderate PA men only had a significantly lower odds-ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) (OR?=?0.795, 95% CI?=?0.654?~?0.965, p?=?0.021) for having cognitive impairment, even after adjusting for measured covariates, which was no longer significant when additionally adjusted for comorbidity (OR?=?0.862, 95% CI?=?0.707?~?1.051, p?=?0.143). Compared with low PA women, moderate and high PA women had significantly lower risks of cognitive impairment (OR?=?0.830, 95% CI?=?0.712?~?0.969, p?=?0.018 and OR?=?0.784, 95% CI?=?0.651?~?0.943, p?=?0.010, respectively), even after adjusting for the measured covariates including comorbidity, which was no longer significant when additionally adjusted for depression (OR?=?0.897, 95% CI?=?0.776?~?1.049, p?=?0.173 and OR?=?0.919, 95% CI?=?0.761?~?1.111, p?=?0.385, respectively).

Conclusion: These findings suggest that gender differences in the covariates modulate the relationship between physical activity and cognitive decline in older Korean adults.  相似文献

Background: The association between physical activity (PA) and all-cause mortality may be modulated by potential confounders.

Aim: To investigate the association between weekly PA and all-cause mortality in a population-based prospective study.

Subjects and methods: The study sample included Korean older adults aged 60?years and older who participated in baseline assessments (n?=?15 416) in 2008 and completed follow-up visits in 2011 (n?=?14,976). Primary outcome was 3-year all-cause mortality.

Results: Compared with sufficiently active individuals (with Hazard Ratio (HR)?=?1), completely inactive and insufficiently active individuals had a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR?=?2.086, 95% CI?=?1.639–2.655, p?<?0.00 and HR?=?1.644, 95% CI?=?1.013–2.668, p?=?0.044, respectively), even after adjustments for age and sex, health-related behaviour factors (i.e. smoking, alcohol intake and nutritional risk), cognitive impairment and components of frailty phenotype (i.e. involuntary weight loss, exhaustion and slowness). In addition, the inverse association between PA and all-cause mortality is differently modulated by potential confounders, including age, sex, smoking, depressive symptoms, cognitive impairment and involuntary weight loss.

Conclusion: PA was inversely and independently associated with all-cause mortality in Korean older adults.  相似文献

Background: Lactase non-persistence (LNP) has been associated with the CC genotype of ?13910C?>?T and GG genotype of ?22018G?>?A polymorphisms present upstream of the lactase gene. Lactose intolerance (LI) is caused when gastrointestinal symptoms develop in individuals with low lactase activity.

Objective: To analyse association of LNP genotype and LI symptoms with milk intake and determine whether factors such as age, gender and genotype affect LI status.

Subjects and methods: Genetic analysis and lactose tolerance test (LTT) were performed on 205 healthy Indian adults. The pattern of milk consumption was recorded using a dietary questionnaire.

Results: LI was strongly associated with ?13910CC genotype (OR?=?10.28, 95% CI?=?2.32–45.55, p?=?0.002). Females were found to be at a higher risk of developing LI (OR?=?2.47, 95% CI?=?1.33–4.59, p?=?0.004). The association of the ≥50 years age group with LI was marginally significant (OR?=?1.86, 95% CI?=?0.995–3.47, p?=?0.05). Frequency and quantity of milk intake were lower in subjects belonging to the LNP genotype and LI groups (p?Conclusions: Subject study suggests that gender and genotype may be associated with development of LI. Association of age with LI was marginal. The data also indicate that LNP genotype and LI may play a role in influencing milk intake in individuals.  相似文献

Background: Understanding body weight status dissatisfaction may be important for understanding weight control behaviours and mental health.

Aims: To investigate the relationships between body weight status misperceptions in nulliparous normal-weight young women and weight control-related behaviours and mental health.

Subjects and methods: Body weight perceptions, weight control methods, depressive mood and psychological distress were measured in 717 nulliparous normal-weight women, aged 18–40 years, who participated in the 2007–2009 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES-IV).

Results: Among 717 participants, 24 subjects (4.1?±?1.0%) misperceived themselves to be underweight and 295 subjects (39.2?±?2.2%) misperceived themselves to be overweight. Those with overweight misperceptions were more likely to fail to maintain their targeted body weights, despite weight control efforts (p?p?Conclusions: Body weight status misperception may be important for understanding weight control-related behaviours and psychiatric illness among nulliparous normal-weight young women.  相似文献

Aim: Objective methods were used to evaluate children’s sleep and physical activity over several days in order to test the hypotheses that: (1) low average sleep duration and/or sleep efficiency are linked to a low amount of physical activity; and (2) a reduction in sleep quantity and/or sleep efficiency during the night is followed by a decrease in physical activity the following day.

Methods: This is a multi-centre, observational study involving 276 children, aged 10.5–12 years, from diverse urban settings in Croatia, Slovenia and the US. Sleep and activity were monitored for 2–6 days (median?=?4) using the Sensewear Armband? multi-sensor body monitor.

Results: While average sleep duration and efficiency were unrelated to physical activity, within-subjects associations revealed that an extra hour spent in bed during the night was followed by a 16-minute decrease in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (p?p?Conclusions: This study found no evidence for a link between short sleep and low or reduced physical activity.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The work interval duration between the end of one workday and the start of the following workday is referred to as the daily rest period (DRP). The present study examined whether DRP – a proxy for sleep opportunity between work shifts – is associated with indicators of sleep debt and social jetlag among daytime workers.

Methods: We used a web-based survey to gather data on demographics, average DRP in the previous month, time in bed (TIB), bedtime, wake-up time, and sleep timing on workdays and non-workdays. The Japanese daytime workers (n = 3,914) were divided into seven DRP groups (hours) as follows: <11, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and ≥16.

Results: The two-way analyses of covariance (DRP group x day) for TIB, mid-sleep as sleep timing, bedtime, and wake-up time showed significant interactions (all p < .001). Specifically, TIB was significantly shorter, and mid-sleep and wake-up time were significantly earlier on workdays than on non-workdays, across all DRP groups (all p < .001). Additionally, the different values for TIB (sleep debt), sleep timing (social jetlag), bedtime, and wake-up time were calculated by subtracting workdays from non-workdays. The trend analysis showed that workers with longer DRP (sleep opportunity) had smaller differences in TIB, sleep timing, and wake-up time between workdays and non-workdays (all p < .001).

Conclusions: Overall, daytime workers reported significant sleep debt and misalignment between work and free sleep-wake periods. However, workers with shorter DRPs (less sleep opportunity between shifts) reported significantly greater amounts of sleep debt and social jetlag than did workers with longer DRPs.  相似文献

IntroductionPhysical activity (PA), sedentary behaviors (SB), sleep, and diet are related to adiposity among children and adolescents. However, there may be interactions between PA, SB, sleep, and diet, and these lifestyle behaviors may work together to affect body weight. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of multiple lifestyle behaviors of PA, SB, sleep, and diet on childhood adiposity (body mass index z-score and overweight/obesity), and to investigate the effect of meeting multiple guidelines on adiposity among children and adolescents in China.MethodsCross-sectional results were based on 28,048 children aged 6–17 years from the China National Nutrition and Health Surveillance in 2010–2012. Information about PA, SB, and sleep was measured through interview-administered questionnaire. Dietary intake was assessed with food frequency questionnaire. The associations between multiple lifestyle behaviors and BMI z-score and overweight/obese were examined.ResultsThe prevalence of overweight/obesity in the participants was 19.2%. The average time of moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), leisure SB, and sleep was 76.7 ± 45.5 min, 2.9 ± 1.4 h, and 8.5 ± 1.1 h per day, respectively. The China Dietary Guidelines Index for Youth (CDGI-Y) score was 62.6 ± 11.0. Sleep duration and diet score were negative associated with BMI z-score (both p < 0.001). MVPA and SB time were positive associated with BMI z-score (p = 0.041, 0.004). Meeting the SB, sleep, and diet guidelines had a lower BMI z-score (all p < 0.01) and lower odds of overweight/obesity (all p < 0.05). There were significant interactions between PA and diet. Compared with meeting no guidelines, those who met multiple guidelines had a lower risk of overweight/obesity (all p < 0.01). The more guidelines the participants met, the lower odds of overweight/obesity (p for trend <0.001).ConclusionsPA, SB, sleep, and diet are important behaviors associated with adiposity among children and adolescents. Attaining adequate amounts of appropriate multiple behaviors provided an additional benefit. It is important for children to meet recommended behavioral guidelines or recommendations. Interventions that aim to improve awareness of and compliance with these guidelines are needed in future.  相似文献

Background: Understanding variation in physical activity (PA) and sleep is necessary to develop novel intervention strategies targeting adolescents’ health behaviors. We examined the extent to which PA and sleep vary by aspects of the physical environment. Participants: We performed a cross-sectional analysis of 669 adolescents in the Project Viva cohort. Methods: We estimated total PA, sleep duration, sleep efficiency, and sleep midpoint timing from wrist accelerometers. We used multivariable linear regression models and generalized estimated equations to assess associations of PA and sleep with season and daily weather conditions obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration archive. Results: Mean age was 12.9 (SD 0.6) years; 51% were female and 68% were white. Mean sleep duration was 466 (SD 42) min per night and total PA was 1,652 (SD 431) counts per min per day. Sleep midpoint time was 41 (95% CI: 27 to 54) min later in summer, 28 (95% CI: ?41 to ?14) min earlier in spring, and 29 (95% CI: ?43 to ?15) min earlier in autumn compared to winter. Higher temperature and longer day length both were associated with small reductions of nightly sleep duration. Adolescents were less physically active during winter and on rainy and short sunlight days. There was an inverse U-shaped relationship between PA and mean temperature. Conclusions: Season was associated with large changes in sleep timing, and smaller changes in other sleep and PA measurements. Given the importance of sleep and circadian alignment, future health behavioral interventions may benefit by targeting “season-specific” interventions.  相似文献

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether interleukin (IL)-23?R and IL-12B polymorphisms confer susceptibility to psoriasis.

Methods: The authors conducted a meta-analysis on associations between the IL-23?R and IL-12B polymorphisms and psoriasis susceptibility.

Results: A total of 14 comparison studies were included in this meta-analysis. The meta-analysis identified a significant association between psoriasis and 2 alleles of the rs11209026 and rs7530511 polymorphisms in Europeans (odds ratio [OR]?=?0.624, 95% confidence interval [CI]?=?0.565–0.697, p?<?1.0?×?10?8; OR?=?0.804, 95% CI?=?0.743–0.869, p?=?3.0?×?10?7, respectively). Meta-analysis of IL-12B showed a significant association between the 2 alleles of the rs6887695 and rs3212227 polymorphisms and the risk of developing psoriasis (OR?=?0.710, 95% CI?=?0.673–0.749, p?<?1.0?×?10?8; OR?=?0.684, 95% CI?=?0.639–0.731, p?<?1.0?×?10?8, respectively). Stratification by ethnicity identified an association between the rs6887695 and rs3212227 polymorphisms and psoriasis in Europeans.

Conclusions: This meta-analysis showed that the IL-23?R (rs11209026 and rs7530511) polymorphisms are associated with psoriasis risk in Europeans and that the IL-12B (rs6887695 and rs3212227) polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to psoriasis in Europeans.  相似文献

Objective:

Establish the dose-response relationship between increasing sleep durations in a single night and recovery of neurobehavioral functions following chronic sleep restriction.

Design:

Intent-to-treat design in which subjects were randomized to 1 of 6 recovery sleep doses (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 h TIB) for 1 night following 5 nights of sleep restriction to 4 h TIB.

Setting:

Twelve consecutive days in a controlled laboratory environment.

Participants:

N = 159 healthy adults (aged 22-45 y), median = 29 y).

Interventions:

Following a week of home monitoring with actigraphy and 2 baseline nights of 10 h TIB, subjects were randomized to either sleep restriction to 4 h TIB per night for 5 nights followed by randomization to 1 of 6 nocturnal acute recovery sleep conditions (N = 142), or to a control condition involving 10 h TIB on all nights (N = 17).

Measurements and Results:

Primary neurobehavioral outcomes included lapses on the Psychomotor Vigilance Test (PVT), subjective sleepiness from the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS), and physiological sleepiness from a modified Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT). Secondary outcomes included psychomotor and cognitive speed as measured by PVT fastest RTs and number correct on the Digit Symbol Substitution Task (DSST), respectively, and subjective fatigue from the Profile of Mood States (POMS). The dynamics of neurobehavioral outcomes following acute recovery sleep were statistically modeled across the 0 h-10 h recovery sleep doses. While TST, stage 2, REM sleep and NREM slow wave energy (SWE) increased linearly across recovery sleep doses, best-fitting neurobehavioral recovery functions were exponential across recovery sleep doses for PVT and KSS outcomes, and linear for the MWT. Analyses based on return to baseline and on estimated intersection with control condition means revealed recovery was incomplete at the 10 h TIB (8.96 h TST) for PVT performance, KSS sleepiness, and POMS fatigue. Both TST and SWE were elevated above baseline at the maximum recovery dose of 10 h TIB.

Conclusions:

Neurobehavioral deficits induced by 5 nights of sleep restricted to 4 h improved monotonically as acute recovery sleep dose increased, but some deficits remained after 10 h TIB for recovery. Complete recovery from such sleep restriction may require a longer sleep period during 1 night, and/or multiple nights of recovery sleep. It appears that acute recovery from chronic sleep restriction occurs as a result of elevated sleep pressure evident in both increased SWE and TST.

Objective: This study determined whether interleukin-10 (IL-10) polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to vasculitis.

Methods: A meta-analysis was conducted of the associations between the IL-10 -1082 G/A, -819 C/T, and -592 C/A polymorphisms and the haplotype of the IL-10-1082 G/A, -819 C/T, -592 C/A polymorphisms and vasculitis.

Results: A total of 21 comparative studies involving 4121 patients and 5504 controls were considered in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis revealed no association between the IL-10-1082 G allele and vasculitis in all study subjects (OR?=?0.927, 95% CI?=?0.780–1.102, p?=?0.389). However, disease-specific meta-analysis showed an association between Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG) and the IL-10-1082 G allele (OR?=?0.729, 95% CI?=?0.547–0.971, p?=?0.031). Meta-analysis revealed an association between vasculitis and the IL-10-819 C allele (OR?=?0.804, 95% CI?=?0.706–0.916, p?=?0.001) in all study subjects and Behcet’s disease (BD) (OR?=?0.724, 95% CI?=?0.679–0.781, p?<?1.0?×?10?9). Meta-analysis of the IL-10-592 C allele showed an association with vasculitis in all study subjects (OR?=?0.805, 95% CI?=?0.619–0.938, p?=?0.005) and BD (OR?=?0.718, 95% CI?=?0.661–0.781, p?<?1.0?×?10?9). Meta-analysis of the IL-10 haplotype revealed an association between the GCC haplotype and vasculitis in Europeans (OR?=?1.239, 95% CI?=?1.105–1.513, p?=?0.035).

Conclusions: This meta-analysis showed that IL-10 polymorphisms are associated with vasculitis susceptibility, especially in WG and BD.  相似文献

Actigraphy is increasingly used in practice and research studies because of its relative low cost and decreased subject burden. How multiple nights of at‐home actigraphy compare to one independent night of in‐laboratory polysomnography (PSG) has not been examined in people with insomnia. Using event markers (MARK) to set time in bed (TIB) compared to automatic program analysis (AUTO) has not been systematically evaluated. Subjects (n = 30) meeting DSM‐5 criteria for insomnia and in‐laboratory PSG sleep efficiency (SE) of <85% were studied. Subjects were free of psychiatric, sleep or circadian disorders, other chronic conditions and medications that effect sleep. Subjects had an in‐laboratory PSG, then were sent home for 7 nights with Philips Actiwatch Spectrum Plus. Data were analysed using Philips Actiware version 6. Using the mean of seven nights, TIB, total sleep time (TST), SE, sleep‐onset latency (SOL) and wake after sleep onset (WASO) were examined. Compared to PSG, AUTO showed longer TIB and TST and less WASO. MARK only differed from PSG with decreased WASO. Differences between the PSG night and the following night at home were found, with better sleep on the first night home. Actigraphy in people with insomnia over seven nights is a valid indicator of sleep compared to an independent in‐laboratory PSG. Event markers increased the validity of actigraphy, showing no difference in TIB, TST, SE and SOL. AUTO was representative of SE and SOL. Increased SE and TST without increased TIB suggests possible compensatory sleep the first at night home after in‐laboratory PSG.  相似文献

Background: Zinc, a co-factor of antioxidant enzymes, may be involved in the pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome (MetS).

Aim: To determine the association between serum zinc concentration and MetS in a population-based study.

Subjects and methods: In the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study, serum zinc concentration was measured by flame atomic absorption spectrometry in 2626 adult participants. After removal of outliers, usable data was available for 2401 participants. Dietary zinc was assessed by a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire.

Results: Compared to those without the MetS, serum zinc concentration was significantly higher in men with syndrome (17.1?±?4.9 vs 16.5?±?4.6?μmol/L, p?=?0.035); however, values were comparable in females (16.1?±?4.8 vs 15.8?±?4.4, p?=?0.460). Men in tertile 3 of serum zinc had significantly higher chances of having MetS, even after multivariate adjustment (OR?=?1.48, 95% confidence interval (CI)?=?1.07–2.06, p?=?0.020). Women in tertile 2 of serum zinc had significantly lower chances of having MetS, which remained significant after multivariate adjustment (OR?=?0.68, 95% CI?=?0.47–0.99, p?=?0.046).

Conclusion: This study observed a gender difference between serum zinc and MetS, with higher levels being positively associated with MetS in men and having a protective effect in women. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of zinc status in the development of MetS.  相似文献

Background: Pre-school age is important for developing healthy attitudes towards physical activity (PA). However, research on pre-schoolers’ pedometer-determined PA is limited.

Aim: To describe pre-schoolers’ ambulatory activity; investigate step count differences in respect to Body Mass Index (BMI) categories and examine the prevalence of obesity.

Subjects and methods: Pre-school aged children (n?=?250; 5.5?±?0.4 years) from Komotini (Greece) wore Omron HJ-720IT-E2 pedometers for 10 consecutive days. Height and weight were measured and BMI was calculated.

Results: Three-way repeated measures ANOVAs revealed that children performed more steps on weekdays than during weekends (p?p?p?p?p?p?p?t-test analysis, children’s daily steps were significantly different from the 10?000 steps/day guideline, while obesity prevalence was 15.6%.

Conclusion: School-based ambulatory activity is lower than after school ambulatory activity, independent of BMI-category and gender, although obese children demonstrated fewer steps. Taking into account the high rate of both the obesity prevalence and children not meeting the 10?000 steps/day guideline, the need for preventive policies becomes obvious.  相似文献

Abstract

Background: The health and nutritional situation of adults from three rural vulnerable Amazonian populations are investigated in relation to the Social Determinants of Health (SDH) and the epidemiologic transition.

Aim: To investigate the role of the environment and the SDH on the occurrence of chronic-degenerative diseases in these groups.

Subjects and methods: Anthropometric, blood pressure and demographic data were collected in adults from the RDS Mamirauá, AM (n?=?149), Flona Caxiuanã, PA (n?=?148) and quilombolas, PA (n?=?351), populations living in a variety of socio-ecological environments in the Brazilian Amazon.

Results: Adjusting for the effect of age, quilombola men are taller (F?=?9.85; p?<?0.001) and quilombola women present with higher adiposity (F?=?20.43; p?<?0.001) and are more overweight/obese. Men from Mamirauá present higher adiposity (F?=?9.58; p?<?0.001). Mamirauá women are taller (F?=?5.55; p?<?0.01) and have higher values of waist circumference and subscapular/triceps index. Quilombolas present higher prevalence of hypertension in both sexes and there are significant differences in rates of hypertension among the women (χ2 = 17.45; p?<?0.01). The quilombolas are more dependent on government programmes, people from Mamirauá have more economic resources and the group from Caxiunã have the lowest SES.

Conclusion: In these populations, the SDH play a key role in the ontogeny of diseases and the ‘diseases of modernity’ occur simultaneously with the always present infectoparasitic pathologies, substantially increasing social vulnerability.  相似文献

Abstract

Objective: Validation of body adiposity index (BAI) in a paediatrics sample; and to develop, if necessary, a valid BAI for paediatrics (i.e. BAIp).

Methods: A total of 1615 children (52% boys) aged 5–12 years underwent anthropometry. Their body composition was assessed using a foot-to-foot bioimpedance. The validity of BAI?=?(Hip circumference/Height1.5)???18 was tested by combining correlation and agreement statistics. Then, the sample was split into two sub-samples for the construction of BAIp. A regression was used to compute the prediction equation for BAIp-based percentage of body fat (%BF).

Results: The initial BAI over-estimated the %BF of children by 49% (29.6?±?4.2% versus 19.8?±?6.8%; p?<?0.0001). The original methodology led to a BAIp?=?(Hip circumference/Height0.8) ? 38 in children. When compared to BAI, BAIp showed both better correlation (r?=?0.57; p?<?0.01 versus r?=?0.74; p?<?0.0001) and agreement (ICC?=?0.34; [95% CI?=??0.19–0.65] versus ICC?=?0.83; [95% CI?=?0.81–0.84]). However, there were some systematic biases between the two values of %BF as exemplified by the large 95% limit of agreement [?9.1%; 8.8%] obtained.

Conclusion: BAI over-estimates the %BF in children. In contrast, BAIp appears as a new index for children’s body fatness, with acceptable accuracy. In its current form, this index is valid only for large-scale studies.  相似文献

Nearly 70% of adults with chronic pain experience increased pain during activity, and this may reduce enjoyment of physical activity (PA), and subsequent PA intention/behavior. The goal of this study was to examine increased pain during activity as a predictor of PA, via its effects on PA enjoyment. Participants included 178 overweight/obese midlife adults with chronic pain who completed an online prospective survey. Results indicated that greater increases in pain during activity were associated with less PA enjoyment, and, in turn, lower intention to exercise over the next week (p?<?0.05). Activity-induced pain also predicted lower total volume of PA at 1-week follow-up, and this relationship was mediated by PA enjoyment (p?<?0.05). These findings have the potential to inform the refinement of PA promotion interventions for individuals with chronic pain.

ABSTRACT

Background: In the context of a randomized controlled trial evaluating the efficacy of augmenting fluoxetine treatment in young adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) using a modified repeated partial sleep deprivation protocol contrasting 2 weeks of restricted time in bed (i.e., 6 h TIB) to no time in bed restriction (i.e., 8 h TIB) the study examines whether sleep duration and the timing of repeated partial sleep deprivation predicts patient-reported affect ratings.

Participants: Participants included 58 young adults with DSM-IV-diagnosed MDD.

Methods: Daily ratings of affect and sleep were collected during the first 2 weeks of initiating fluoxetine treatment, yielding 630 person-days. Actigraphy monitoring was employed to assess compliance with time in bed condition.

Results: Negative affect ratings and positivity ratios in the morning were more improved among participants assigned to the 6 h TIB condition compared to the 8 h TIB group. Participants whose bedtime was delayed by 2-h nightly demonstrated the most significant improvement in negative affect and positivity ratio during the first 2 weeks of fluoxetine therapy. Moreover, the trajectory of morning negative affect ratings in the first 2 weeks was predictive of remission after 4 weeks of fluoxetine therapy.

Conclusions: These findings suggest that monitoring changes in daily affect may be a valuable marker of early treatment response in young adults with MDD.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of season on some haematological and biochemical parameters in pigeons (Columba livia) in Rajasthan, India. Blood samples of 80 pigeons were collected in four different seasons (20 from each season) for analysing haematological and biochemical parameters. In the haematological parameters, haemoglobin, packed cell volume and total erythrocyte count were significantly lower (p?<?0.05) in summer compared with winter season. Whereas, no significant difference (p?<?0.05) was observed in the values of total leucocyte count in different seasons. Albumin, total protein, serum alanine amino transaminase and aspartate amino transaminase were significantly increased (p?<?0.05) in summer compared with winter season, whereas alkaline phosphatase values in summer were significantly low when compared to winter. In conclusion, heat stress during summer caused deterioration in some haematological and serum biochemical constituents of pigeons (C. livia). Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the genetic effects of PON1 Q192R polymorphism on serum FABP4 levels in Mexican women.

Methods: PON1 Q192R polymorphism was genotyped using a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay and serum FABP4 concentration was measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Results: The distribution of genotype frequencies in the assessed women (PON1 Q192R polymorphism) was QQ?=?20%, QR?=?48% and RR?=?32%. Significantly higher serum FABP4 levels were found in women with genotype QR/RR (20.6?±?2.20?ng/mL), when compared with the levels found in the QQ group (12.8?±?1.70?ng/mL) (p?=?.004).
