Colitis cystica profunda is a benign disease of the colon. Its importance lies in differentiating it from mucus-producing adenocarcinoma. It has rarely been described in the surgical literature. A review of records of patients seen at the Mayo Clinic produced 66 clinical cases of localized colitis cystica profunda, and in 21 patients the diagnosis was confirmed histologically. Follow-up, which was available in all patients, ranged from 2 months to 29 years, with a mean followup of more than 8 years. The data suggest that local excision is the preferred initial therapy.  相似文献

Colitis cystica profunda is a rare benign disorder of the colon and rectum. The disease is important clinically in that it often mimics malignant processes. The clinical features of 144 cases of colitis cystica profunda reported in the literature are reviewed. Controversies surrounding the cause and pathogenesis of the disease are diseussed.  相似文献

Colitis cystica profunda is a rare benign disease, characterized by the presence of mucin-filled cysts in the submucosa layer of colon, which forms polypoid lesions. The most habitual type of clinical presentation is localized, at distal colon or in the rectum, and more rarely appears like a diffuse afectation of colon. We present a case of colitis cystica profunda with diffuse afectation of whole colon, which definitive diagnosis was for the histological finds of the endoscopy macrobiopsys realized to colon's polypoid lesions.  相似文献

Rectally localized colitis cystica profunda can simulate mucosecretory carcinoma. PURPOSE AND METHODS: Because endoscopic examination and barium enema do not clarify the diagnosis, other diagnostic imaging methods such as transrectal ultrasonography, computerized tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging are needed. RESULTS: Transrectal ultrasonography identifies multiple cysts in the rectal submucosa, with areas of echorefringent fibrosis between cysts, and confirms the absence of lymph node involvement or invasion of the muscular layer. Findings with computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging have not previously been described for colitis cystica profunda. With computerized tomography, the lesion appears as a noninfiltrating entity in the submucosa, with loss of perirectal layers of fatty tissue and thickening of the levator ani muscle. With nuclear magnetic imaging, nodulations produce intense signals that increase in T2, illustrating the mucoprotein content of the cysts. The presence in surgical biopsy material of large, whole cysts confirms the diagnosis. CONCLUSION: Reeducation of bowel habits aimed at avoiding straining and a high-fiber diet together with bulk laxatives can lead to complete remission of lesions in 6 to 18 months.  相似文献

Colitis cystica profunda and solitary rectal ulcer syndrome-polyoid variant are related chronic benign disorders with characteristic histological features. However, the clinical and endoscopic settings are confusing and misleading, suggesting other rectal conditions. We report a case of colitis cystica profunda and solitary rectal ulcer syndrome-polypoid variant that was misdiagnosed initially as an ulcerative proctitis. Since an occult malignancy could not be ruled out by superficial biopsies, the mass was removed by full-thickness transanal excision.  相似文献

Colitis cystica profunda,an unusual solitary tumor: Report of three cases   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
Summary Colitis cystica profunda manifests as a nodular or polypoid defect, either localized or diffuse, on barium enema examination. Differentiation from a neoplasm by histologic examination is necessary, as the lesion may resemble a mucoid carcinoma.  相似文献

Summary Colitis cystica profunda is a benign condition that has been confused with carcinoma. This rarely recognized condition is characterized by submucosal cysts. Macroscopically, the ulcerated character of the mass suggests carcinoma. Microscopically, attenuation of the innocuous-appearing cyst linings may give the false impression of a mucus-secreting carcinoma. A case of colitis cystica profunda in which the macroscopic appearance was so suggestive of malignancy that operation was carried out is reported.  相似文献

Gastritis cystica profunda(GCP) is a rare condition caused by ectopic entrapment of gastric glands, probably secondary to the disruption of muscularis mucosae.GCP is often associated with gastric adenocarcinoma, and loss of the KCNE2 subunit from potassium channel complexes is considered a common primary target molecule leads to both GCP and malignancy. In this study,we,for the first time, analyzed the expression of KCNE2 in surgically excised tissue from human gastric cancer associated with GCP and confirmed that reduced KCNE2 expression correlates with disease formation.  相似文献
