The shape retention ability of materials deposited layer by layer is called buildability, which is an indispensable performance parameter for successful 3D printable cementitious materials (3DPC). This study investigated the synergistic effect of nano-clay (NC) and thixotropic superplasticizer (TP) on the buildability of 3DPC. The rheological parameters and static yield stress are characterized by the rheology testing, the green strength is measured by a self-made pressure tester, and the fluidity is tested by flow table. Results indicate that NC significantly increases the growth rate of static yield stress and green strength and TP can improve the initial rheological parameters and fluidity, which ensures the initial stiffness and workability of printed materials. The mixture with 7‰ (by mass of cementitious materials) NC and 3‰ TP obtains excellent extrudability and buildability, due to the synergistic effect of NC and TP. Based on the rheology testing and specific printing experiments, a printable window with 1.0 Pa/s~2.0 Pa/s of the rate of static yield stress evolution over time (RST) or 170 mm~200 mm of fluidity is established. This work provides theorical support for the control and evaluation of rheological properties in 3DPC. 相似文献

This work focuses on combining digitally architected cellular structures with cementitious mortar incorporating micro-encapsulated phase change material (mPCM) to fabricated lightweight cementitious cellular composites (LCCCs). Voronoi structures with different randomness are designed for the LCCCs. Aided by the indirect 3D printing technique, the LCCCs were prepared with a reference mortar (REF) and a mortar incorporating mPCM. The compressive behavior of the LCCCs was studied at the age of 28 days, by experimental and numerical methods. It was found that the highly randomized Voronoi structure and the mPCM have minor negative influence on the compressive properties of the LCCCs. The mPCM incorporated LCCCs have high relative compressive strength compared to conventional foam concrete. Furthermore, the critical role of air voids defects on the compressive behavior was identified. The highly randomized porous Voronoi structure, high mPCM content and good compressive strength ensure the LCCCs’ great potential as a novel thermal insulation construction material. 相似文献

This article dwells upon the additive manufacturing of high-energy materials (HEM) with regards to the problems of this technology’s development. This work is aimed at identifying and describing the main problems currently arising in the use of AM for nanostructured high-energy materials and gives an idea of the valuable opportunities that it provides in the hope of promoting further development in this area. Original approaches are proposed for solving one of the main problems in the production of nanostructured HEM—safety and viscosity reduction of the polymer-nanopowder system. Studies have shown an almost complete degree of deagglomeration of microencapsulated aluminum powders. Such powders have the potential to create new systems for safe 3D printing using high-energy materials. 相似文献

The bovine hoof wall with an α-keratin structure protects the bovine foot from impact loads when the cattle are running. Reduced modulus, hardness and creep behavior of the bovine hoof wall have been investigated by a nanoindentation technique. The average reduced modulus of the Transverse Direction (TD) specimens from the outside to inside wall is 3.76 and 2.05 GPa, respectively, while the average reduced modulus of the Longitudinal Direction (LD) specimens from the outside to inside wall is 4.54 and 3.22 GPa, respectively. Obviously, the orientation and the position of the bovine hoof wall have a significant influence on its mechanical properties. The use of the generalized Voigt–Kelvin model can make a good prediction of creep stage. Mechanical properties of the LD specimens are stronger than those of the TD specimens. The bovine hoof wall has a layered structure, which can effectively absorb the energy released by the crack propagation and passivate the crack tip. Therefore, a kind of structural model was designed and fabricated by three-dimensional printing technology, which has a 55% performance improvement on fracture toughness. It is believed that the reported results can be useful in the design of new bionic structure materials which may be used in motorcycle helmets and athletes’ protective equipment to achieve light weight and improved strength at the same time. 相似文献

The reconstruction of an orbit after complex craniofacial fractures can be extremely demanding. For satisfactory functional and aesthetic results, it is necessary to restore the orbital walls and the craniofacial skeleton using various types of materials. The reconstruction materials can be divided into autografts (bone or cartilage tissue) or allografts (metals, ceramics, or plastic materials, and combinations of these materials). Over time, different types of materials have been used, considering characteristics such as their stability, biocompatibility, cost, safety, and intraoperative flexibility. Although the ideal material for orbital reconstruction could not be unanimously identified, much progress has been achieved in recent years. In this article, we summarise the advantages and disadvantages of each category of reconstruction materials. We also provide an update on improvements in material properties through various modern processing techniques. Good results in reconstructive surgery of the orbit require both material and technological innovations. 相似文献

Additive manufacturing is being increasingly used both for rapid prototyping as well as the fabrication of finished components. It is important to determine how the properties of 3D printed materials change over time and how they affect the durability and usability of products. The aim of the research presented in this article was to find out what influence the natural aging period had on the mechanical properties, especially the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity, of specimens made from the selected photocurable resins using the PolyJet Matrix (PJM) technology. The tests involved determining the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of specimens fabricated in 2013 and 2014 using two types of photosensitive resins, i.e., FullCure 720 and VeroWhite, respectively. Some of the specimens were stored under laboratory conditions until July 2022 and then tested using a universal testing machine. The experimental data obtained in 2022 for the naturally aged models were compared with those reported for the as-printed specimens. One of the main findings of this study was that the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of the naturally aged specimens were largely dependent on the printing direction (model orientation on the build tray). The test results show that aging generally decreased the tensile strength of the specimens. In one case, however, an increase in this property was observed. For the X and Y printing directions, Rm declined by 27.1% and 30.7%, respectively. For the Z direction, a decrease of only 5.5% was reported, for Full Cure 720. The modulus of elasticity of the models tested in 2022 differed considerably from that reported for the as-printed objects. Higher values of the modulus of elasticity implied that the material stiffness increased over time, and this is a common phenomenon in polymers. Interesting results were obtained for VeroWhite specimens. The modulus of elasticity decreased significantly by 25.1% and 42.4% for the specimens printed in the X and Z directions, respectively. However, for the models built in the Y direction, it increased by 27.4%. The experimental data may be of significance to users of products manufactured using the PJM method as well as to researchers dealing with the durability and reliability of such materials. 相似文献

Multimaterial additive manufacturing is an attractive way of producing parts with improved functional properties by combining materials with different properties within a single part. Pure Ti provides a high ductility and an improved corrosion resistance, while the Ti64 alloy has a higher strength. The combination of these alloys within a single part using additive manufacturing can be used to produce advanced multimaterial components. This work explores the multimaterial Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) of Ti/Ti64 graded material. The microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti/Ti64-graded samples fabricated by L-PBF with different geometries of the graded zones, as well as different effects of heat treatment and hot isostatic pressing on the microstructure of the bimetallic Ti/Ti64 samples, were investigated. The transition zone microstructure has a distinct character and does not undergo significant changes during heat treatment and hot isostatic pressing. The tensile tests of Ti/Ti64 samples showed that when the Ti64 zones were located along the sample, the ratio of cross-sections has a greater influence on the mechanical properties than their shape and location. The presented results of the investigation of the graded Ti/Ti64 samples allow tailoring properties for the possible applications of multimaterial parts. 相似文献

There are no standards for testing the properties of 3D-printed materials; hence, the need to develop guidelines for implementing this type of experiment is necessary. The work concerns the development of a research methodology for interlayer bond strength evaluation in 3D-printed mineral materials. In additive manufactured construction elements, the bond strength is a significant factor as it determines the load-bearing capacity of the entire structural element. After we completed a literature review, the following three test methods were selected for consideration: direct tensile, splitting, and shear tests. The paper compares the testing procedure, results, and sample failure modes. The splitting test was found to be the most effective for assessing layer adhesion, by giving the lowest scatter of results while being an easy test to carry out. 相似文献

Mixing of complex fluids at low Reynolds number is fundamental for a broad range of applications, including materials assembly, microfluidics, and biomedical devices. Of these materials, yield stress fluids (and gels) pose the most significant challenges, especially when they must be mixed in low volumes over short timescales. New scaling relationships between mixer dimensions and operating conditions are derived and experimentally verified to create a framework for designing active microfluidic mixers that can efficiently homogenize a wide range of complex fluids. Active mixing printheads are then designed and implemented for multimaterial 3D printing of viscoelastic inks with programmable control of local composition.Mixing at low Reynolds number is important for many processes (1, 2) from bioassays (3) and medical analysis (4), to materials synthesis (5) and patterning (6). Microfluidic devices that passively mix small fluid volumes (7–9) via chaotic advection or secondary flows have been implemented for many targeted applications (10–12). Passive mixers are simple and operate with no moving parts, but their mixing efficiency is strongly coupled to flow rate and geometry. Moreover, they are typically suited only for low-viscosity fluids containing diffusive species, such as colloidal particles (13). Whereas elastic instabilities have been shown to drive mixing of weakly viscoelastic polymer solutions in microfluidic devices (14), there is growing interest in continuous mixing of strongly viscoelastic materials, i.e., yield stress fluids, in microchannels, which until now has only been demonstrated at the macroscale (15, 16). The ability to uniformly and rapidly mix such liquids at the microscale would open new avenues for myriad applications, including additive manufacturing (17, 18). For example, concentrated viscoelastic inks are patterned by direct ink writing, an extrusion-based 3D printing method (19). To date, this flexible printing method has been used to create ceramic (20, 21), polymeric (22), metallic (23), and composite (24) architectures as well as vascularized tissues (25). In each case, the ink composition remains constant during the printing process. The ability to create more complex architectures with local compositional gradients is cumbersome at best, requiring a coordinated printpath between multiple individually addressable printheads––each of which contains a different ink (25).To overcome this challenge, we design, characterize, and exploit the mixing efficiency of an active mixer that homogenizes multiple materials at the microscale. To understand the relative advantages of active mixing, we derive and experimentally validate scaling relationships that are consistent with existing theory for passive mixers (10). To our knowledge, this is the first quantitative explanation of the mechanism by which an active microfluidic mixer decouples the intensity of the chaotic advection from the flow rate. This unique feature enables viscoelastic materials to be mixed over a wide range of flow rates on short timescales in microliter volumes. Finally, we demonstrate the versatility of the active mixer to achieve “on-the-fly” local control of material composition and properties via multimaterial 3D printing. 相似文献

This paper focuses on inspecting the influences of anti-foaming agent (AFA) on the performance of 3D printing cementitious materials (3DPC). The mini-slump, spreading diameter, yield stress, and strength of 3DPC were evaluated. Additionally, the air-void content, air-void morphology, and air-void size distribution of mortar with and without 0.05% AFA were assessed through image analysis. The mechanical performance and air-void structure of 3D printed samples were also investigated and compared to that of conventionally mould cast samples. Test results show that an optimal AFA content enables 3DPC to achieve favorable workability and mechanical performance. The addition of AFA exhibits lower air-void content in 3DPC than that of the sample without the AFA addition. This reduction in air-void content is further strengthened by the results of strength analysis. Electron microscope analysis shows that the use of AFA results in the suppressed formation of large air-voids during the process of fresh 3DPC. Moreover, the air-void morphology substantially influenced the mechanical performance of hardened 3DPC. 相似文献

The objective of this investigation is to study the printing parameter requirements for sustainable 3D printable geopolymer materials. Side streams of the paper, mining, and construction industries were applied as geopolymer raw materials. The effect of printing parameters in terms of buildability, mixability, extrudability, curing, Al-to-Si ratio, and waste materials utilisation on the fresh and hardened state of the materials was studied. The material performance of a fresh geopolymer was measured using setting time and shape stability tests. Standardised test techniques were applied in the testing of the hardened material properties of compressive and flexural strength. The majority of developed suitable 3D printable geopolymers comprised 56–58% recycled material. Heating was used to improve the buildability and setting of the material significantly. A reactive recyclable material content of greater than 20% caused the strength and material workability to decrease. A curing time of 7–28 days increased the compressive strength but decreased the flexural strength. The layers in the test samples exhibited decreased and increased strength, respectively, in compressive and flexural strength tests. Geopolymer development was found to be a compromise between different strength values and recyclable material contents. By focusing on specialised and complex-shape products, 3D printing of geopolymers can compete with traditional manufacturing in limited markets. 相似文献

A single microwave absorbent and simple coating structure cannot meet the increasing requirements for broadband and strong absorption. Three-dimensional printing is an effective way to prepare multi-component complex structure metamaterial absorbers, and the key is to prepare raw materials with excellent absorption properties, suitable for 3D printing. In this paper, CB-CIP/PLA composite filament was prepared via a high-energy mixer and twin-screw extruder by compounding the dielectric loss material carbon black (CB) and the magnetic loss material carbonyl iron powder (CIP) with polylactic acid (PLA) as the matrix. The coaxial ring test piece was printed by FDM technology, and the microstructure of the composites was observed and analyzed by SEM. Meanwhile, the electromagnetic parameters of the composites were examined by a vector network analyzer, mainly studying the influence of the CB and CIP content and thickness on the microwave absorbing properties of the composite material. The results show that when the CB content is 20% and the CIP content is 30%, the CB-CIP/PLA composite has excellent microwave absorption and broad bandwidth. When the matching thickness is 1.6 mm, the minimum reflection loss (RL) reaches −51.10 dB; when the thickness is 1.7 mm, the effective absorption bandwidth (RL < −10 dB) is 5.04 GHz (12.96–18 GHz), nearly covering the whole Ku band. This work provides an efficient formulation and process to prepare an absorbing composite filament for FDM. 相似文献

The aim of the study was the qualitative assessment of new materials based on a polycarbonate matrix in terms of its use in 3D printing and its processing and geometric modification (cutting). Filaments made of the new material doped with talc in five different proportions were visually inspected with a microscope. The calibration and test models were made using the FFF (fused filament fabrication) technique. In addition, its susceptibility to the drill and the behavior of the shavings were assessed and the temperature changing during drilling was measured. The implant was inserted to measure its resonance stability in each of the holes made and translated into the value of the implant stability quotient (ISQ) ranging from 1 to 100. The results were compared to those obtained for the training model of the skull bone. The amount of filler has been shown to affect the composite. Moreover, due to the properties of talc, a compatibilizer (polyol) was used. Differences were observed between the model made of the commercial material, the model made of the dried, tested material, and the model made of the undried material. It was confirmed that the presence of water in the material during its processing is important. 相似文献

The use of phase change materials (PCMs) in concrete is a double-edged sword that improves the thermal inertia but degrades the mechanical properties of concrete. It has been an essential but unsolved issue to enhance the thermal capacity of PCMs while non-decreasing their mechanical strength. To this end, this work designs a novel 3D printing phase change aggregate to prepare concrete with prominent thermal capacity and ductility. The work investigated the effects of 3D printing phase change aggregate on the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete. The compressive strength of phase change aggregate concrete is 21.18 MPa, but the ductility of concrete improves. The splitting tensile strength was 1.45 MPa. The peak strain is 11.69 × 10−3, nearly 13 times that of basalt aggregate concrete. Moreover, using 3D printing phase change aggregate reduced concrete’s early peak hydration temperature by 7.1%. The thermal insulation capacity of the experiment cube model with phase change concrete has been improved. The results show that the novel 3D printing change aggregate concrete has good mechanical properties and latent heat storage, providing a guideline for applying PCMs in building materials. 相似文献

Over the past decade, 3D printing in the construction industry has received worldwide attention and developed rapidly. The research and development of cement and concrete products has also become quite well-established over the years, while other sustainable materials receive considerably lower attention in comparison. This study aims to investigate the influence of the two most commonly used sustainable cementitious materials i.e., silica fume and limestone powder, on printability, thermal and mechanical properties of fly ash–Portland cement blends. Ternary blends containing Portland cement, fly ash and silica fume or limestone powder are prepared, whereas phase change material (PCM) is introduced to improve the thermal behavior. Based on the rheological properties and concurrent 3D concrete printing, improved buildability of the modified mixtures is linked to their static yield stress. Anisotropic mechanical properties are observed for 3D printed specimens, while cast specimens exhibit a maximum 41% higher compressive strength due to better material compaction. It is clear from the results that addition of silica fume and limestone powder ranged from 5% to 10%, reducing the anisotropic mechanical properties (maximum 71% and 68% reduction in anisotropic factor, respectively) in the printed specimens. The PCM addition ranged from 5% to 10% and improved thermal performance of the mixtures, as measured by a decrease in thermal conductivity (9% and 13%) and an increase in volumetric heat capacity (9% and 10%), respectively. However, the PCM-containing mixtures show around 29% reduction in compressive strength, compared to the control specimen, which necessitates new material design considering matrix strengthening methods. 相似文献

Rationale:The most common upper limb amputations are finger amputations, resulting in functional limitations that lead to problems with activities of daily living or job loss. For many years, prosthetic options for finger amputations have been limited to passive prostheses. In many countries including South Korea, body-powered finger prostheses have rarely been prescribed due to high cost, lack of experience of physicians and prosthetists, low interest and no coverage by insurance benefits. We report 2 cases of work-related finger amputations in patients who received body-powered 3D-printed finger prostheses.Patient concerns and diagnosis:Patient 1 was a 25-year-old woman with second and third finger amputations at the proximal interphalangeal level. Patient 2 was a 26-year-old man who sustained a second finger amputation at proximal interphalangeal level.Interventions:We created body-powered 3D-printed finger prostheses that mimicked distal interphalangeal joint motion through patient-driven metacarpophalangeal joint motion using a string connected to a wrist strap and a linkage system. The source code “Knick Finger” was downloaded from e-NABLE.Outcomes:After 1 month of prosthesis training, both patients were satisfied with the prostheses and showed improved performance in patient-derived goals of cooking (patient 1) and typing on a computer (patient 2).Lessons:Over the past decade, significant advances have been made in 3D-printed prosthetics owing to their light weight, low cost, on-site fabrication, and easy customization. Although there are still several limitations in the general application of 3D-printed finger prostheses, our study suggests that for patients with finger amputations, body-powered 3D-printed finger prostheses have high potential as an additional prosthetic option to the existing passive cosmetic prostheses. 相似文献

In recent years, 3D concrete printing technology has been developing dynamically. Intensive research is still being carried out on the composition of the materials dedicated to innovative 3D printing solutions. Here, for the first time, concrete-geopolymer hybrids produced with 3D printing technology and dedicated environmentally friendly building construction are presented. The concrete-geopolymer hybrids consisting of 95% concrete and 5% geopolymer based on fly ash or metakaolin were compared to standard concrete. Moreover, 3D printed samples were compared with the samples of the same composition but prepared by the conventional method of casting into molds. The phase composition, water leachability, compressive, and flexural strength in the parallel and perpendicular directions to the printing direction, and fire resistance followed by compressive strength were evaluated. Concrete-geopolymer hybrids were shown to contain a lower content of hazardous compounds in leaches than concrete samples. The concentration of toxic metals did not exceed the limit values indicated in the Council Decision 2003/33/EC; therefore, the materials were classified as environmentally neutral. The different forms of Si/Al in fly ash and metakaolin resulted in the various potentials for geopolymerization processes, and finally influenced the densification of the hybrids and the potential for immobilization of toxic elements. Although the compressive strength of concrete was approximately 40% higher for cast samples than for 3D printed ones, for the hybrids, the trend was the opposite. The addition of fly ash to concrete resulted in a 20% higher compressive strength compared to an analogous hybrid containing the addition of metakaolin. The compressive strength was 7–10% higher provided the samples were tested in the parallel direction to the Z-axis of the printout. The sample compressive strength of 24–43 MPa decreased to 8–19 MPa after the fire resistance tests as a result of moisture evaporation, weight loss, thermal deformation, and crack development. Importantly, the residual compressive strength of the hybrid samples was 1.5- to 2- fold higher than the concrete samples. Therefore, it can be concluded that the addition of geopolymer to the concrete improved the fire resistance of the samples. 相似文献

Additively manufactured composite specimens exhibit anisotropic properties, meaning that the elastic response changes with respect to orientation. Both in-plane and out-of-plane mechanical properties are important for designing purpose. Recent studies have characterised the in-plane performance. In this study, however, through-thickness tensile strength of 3D polymer composites were determined by printing of continuous carbon fibre reinforced thermoplastic polyamide-based composite, manufactured using a Markforged Two 3D printer. This paper discusses sample fabrication and geometry, adhesive used, and testing procedure. Test standards used to determine out-of-plane properties are tedious as most of the premature failures occur between the specimens and the tabs. Two types of samples were printed according to ASTM flatwise tension standard and the results were compared to determine the geometry effect on the interlaminar strength. This test method consists of subjecting the printed sample to a uniaxial tensile force normal to the plane. With this method, the acceptable failure modes for tensile strength must be internal to the structure, not between the sample and the end tabs. Micro-computed tomography (µCT) was carried out to observe the porosity. Surface behaviour was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to see the voids and the distribution of the fibres in the samples. The results showed consistent values for tensile strength and elastic modulus for Araldite glue after initial trials (with some other adhesives) to determine a suitable choice of adhesive for bonding the samples with the tabs. Circular specimens have higher tensile strength and elastic modulus as compared to rectangular specimens. 相似文献

The main aim of the study includes research concerning the strength of samples printed out of 316L steel in the form of laminates and the creation of reflective simulation models with regard to the results obtained during the research. In addition, the tests addressed the effect of the arrangement of the printed layers on the final strength of the object. Static tensile tests allowed the material constants of 316L steel in the form of dimensionally printed laminate to be determined. Tests were conducted on samples with different printed angles. The tests also covered the impact of the printing envelope on samples with the printing angles. Based on the determined material constants, simulation models for calculations using the finite element method were created. Furthermore, the study includes analytical and simulation calculations of plain laminate in order to verify the accuracy of the Composite Layup module in Abaqus CAE software. The study was summarized by compiling and commenting on the results obtained from the conducted research. Tests showed that there is a possibility of simulating the strength of the printouts from 316L steel using the FEM calculations. It was shown that the FEM model results are similar to those obtained in the tests. The calculated errors were from 3.6 to 14.4%. The linear model describes well the first part of the stress–strain curve, but in further research, it is strongly recommended that a proper and checked nonlinear anisotropic one is presented. 相似文献
