Erythema nodosum and Hodgkin's disease

Summary Erythema nodosum is an unusual manifestation of Hodgkin's lymphoma. One patient with long remission of Hodgkin's disease manifested persistent erythema nodosum beginning one and three months before relapse was clinically evident. So, the diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease should be considered in patients with unexplained recurrent erythema nodosum.     

Erythema nodosum und Infektionskrankheiten.

• 1 Bericht über 12 Fälle von Erythema nodosum bei Erwachsenen und älteren Personen, bei welchen als ätiologie des Ausschlages angenommen wird: frische Tuberkulose in zwei Fällen, Infektion von grippeähnlichem Typ in zwei Fällen, Infektionen der oberen Luftwege bei alten Frauen in drei Fällen, Angina in zwei Fällen und endlich septische Infektionen in drei Fällen.
• 2 Erörterung der ätiologie des Erythema nodosum. Der Ausschlag ist ein Ausdruck für eine an und für sich unspezifische Reaktionsweise, die bei verschiedenen Infektionen vorkommt. So im Kindes- und Jugendalter vorwiegend bei frischer Tuberkuloseinfektion, während Erythema nod. älterer Individuen und Rezidiven des Ausschlages im allgemeinen gewöhnlich durch andere Infektionen verschiedener Art verursacht sein dürften. Der bereits manifesten Tuberkulose wird also keine ätiologische Bedeutung beigemessen und auch bei einem nicht tuberkuloseinfizierten Individuum muss der Ausschlag auftreten können. Ausser den soeben angeführten exogenen Faktoren gibt es sicherlich auch endogene Momente von Bedeutung für die Entstehung des Ausschlages.
• 3 Jeder Fall von Erythema nodosum muss für sich analysiert und ätiologisch aufgeklärt werden. Prognose und Behandlung sind nämlich von den Grundkrankheiten abhängig.

     

Erythema nodosum and giardia intestinalis

Summary We present the first report of erythema nodosum occurring in a woman with an intestinal infection due to giardia lamblia, an association not previously described. The authors suggest the possible role of giardia infection in the pathogenesis of erythema nodosum.     

Erythema nodosum leprosum and orbital involvement

This is the first report of ENL involving the orbit in a lepromatous patients with recurrent ENL, receiving MDT. Severe injury to the eye ensued, in spite of continued ENL and appropriate treatment of the reaction.     

Erythema nodosum leprosum necroticans in a child--an unusual manifestation

Erythema nodosum leprosum necroticans is an uncommon manifestation of type 2 lepra reaction, encountered in lepromatous and borderline lepromatous cases of leprosy. We report an unusual clinical presentation of necrotic erythema nodosum leprosum in a 9-year-old boy with no pre-existing evidence of leprosy. The lesions resolved completely following multi-bacilliary multi-drug therapy for 12 months, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and corticosteroids.
