The American Society of Pain Management Nurses role-delineation study. National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses respondents

PURPOSE: A role-delineation study was conducted by the American Society of Pain Management Nurses to examine the activities performed by nurses involved in pain management. DESIGN: A survey was sent to nurses involved in pain management. The role-delineation survey consisted of 92 activity statements and was based on the Nursing Intervention Classifications. Frequency of performing each activity and importance of the activity were rated by respondents, and a Mean Activity Index score was calculated for each item. SAMPLE: As part of the sampling strategy, a random sample of 200 nurse members of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) were sent surveys. Forty-two (21%) NAON members returned completed surveys. FINDINGS: The activities with the highest Mean Activity Index were primarily those involving pain assessment and pharmacologic management and those relatively specific to orthopaedic patients, such as positioning to increase comfort and premedicating with analgesics before activity. CONCLUSION: Orthopaedic nurses were similar to other nursing specialty groups for assessment and pharmacologic management of pain but placed more emphasis on activity management than other groups. IMPLICATIONS: The results of the study will be used to refine standards of care develop nursing education curricula, develop research priorities, and develop a blueprint for a certification examination.     

Association of Community Health Nursing Educators', 2020 evidence-based project priorities: A national blueprint for unifying research and evidence-based practice priorities

The Association of Community Health Nursing Educators (ACHNE) Research Committee Subcommittee on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) presents a paper on the state of translation of science into public health nursing education practice. The paper builds from the integrative research review completed by the ACHNE Research Priorities Subcommittee (McElroy et al., Public Health Nursing, 2020) offering updated research priorities and a Research in Action model. Four EBP Project Priorities were established using the Johns Hopkins EBP Model guided by Dang and Dearholt's (Johns Hopkins nursing evidence-based practice: Model and guidelines, 2018) 19-step process. The EBP Project Priorities emphasize the need for EBP projects to align ACHNE strategic plans and research priorities. The authors recommend that the Research in Action model guide deliberate unification of both the Research and EBP Project Priorities. Standards and criteria for essential effort unifying collaborative effort between PhD and Doctorate in Nursing Practice scholars, coordination of research efforts, and innovative practice partnerships is provided.     

Strategies for setting and implementing the National Center for Nursing Research priorities

This paper describes the development of the National Nursing Research Agenda (NNRA) of The National Center for Nursing Research (NCNR), a concentrated and long-range effort to set priorities for nursing research. The NNRA process, the contextual characteristics under which the NNRA is carried out, and the strategies for setting and implementing the priorities are discussed.     

Rural nursing research priorities.

The magnitude and variety of clinical concerns in rural healthcare delivery mandate a focused plan for building a substantiated body of knowledge. The author identifies research priority areas to develop a body of knowledge for rural nursing.     

Nursing research priorities for the care of the client with a gastrointestinal disorder: a Delphi survey.

The purpose of this study was to identify priorities for nursing research in the field of gastroenterology nursing using the Delphi technique. A general objective was to provide empirically based information to guide the development of a nursing research program within a specialty nursing organization focused on gastroenterology. Via a two-round Delphi survey, priority research questions were identified from a sample of the membership. Those research questions are presented as well as demographic information of the sample.
