Aiming at the problems of poor bonding between the carbon fiber and the metal matrix and the friction and wear performance of the composite material during the preparation of carbon fiber reinforced zinc-based aluminum rich alloy composites, the carbon fiber surface metallization process was studied. Taking ZA27 as the research object, a new type of zinc-based aluminum rich alloy composite material was prepared by using surface metallized chopped carbon fibers with different contents as reinforcement materials. The microscopic morphology, element distribution and phase composition of the surface metallized carbon fiber and composite materials were characterized, and the hardness and friction and wear properties of the composite materials were tested. The results show that: the surface metallization of carbon fiber effectively reduces the diffusion of carbon elements into the matrix material during the sintering process, and improves the interface bonding between the carbon fiber and the matrix material; Compared with ZA27 alloy, the hardness of 6vt% carbon fiber is increased by 29.6%, and the average friction coefficient and wear rate are reduced by about 18.4% and 96%, respectively, indicating that the carbon fiber reinforced zinc-based aluminum rich alloy composite material optimizes the friction and wear performance of traditional materials.  相似文献

To study the influence of nano-additives on the friction-wear characteristics of friction materials, the nano-sized silicon carbide particles which have excellent chemical and physical properties are considered to add in composite to form the modified friction material. The influence of the silicon carbide nanoparticles (SCN) on the friction-wear characteristics of copper-based friction materials (CBFM) is investigated via the SAE#2 (made in Hangzhou, China) clutch bench test with the applied pressure, rotating speed, and automatic transmission fluid (ATF) temperature taken into account. Moreover, the variations of friction torque and temperature are considered to evaluate the friction performance, and the variable coefficient is employed to describe the friction stability. The wear characteristics of friction materials are investigated by the disc changes in thickness and micro-morphology. The results show that the CBFM with SCN can provide a higher friction torque, which increased by 30% to 50% compared with CBFM. The variable coefficient of CBFM with SCN changes from 674 to 52 with the rotating speed raised from 600 rpm to 3000 rpm, which shows that the friction stability is relatively worse. Furthermore, the micromorphology shows that the CBFM with SCN has lower porosity and surface roughness, which increases the microscopic contact area and the coefficient of friction (COF). Simultaneously, the reduction in porosity also leads to a decrease in the cooling quality, bringing about a rapid temperature rise. Thus, the wear amount of CBFM with SCN increases significantly, especially for the friction disc in the axial middle position.  相似文献

The present article examines special steels used for the production of injection screws in the plastic industry, with a glass fiber content of up to 30%. Experimental materials, M390 and M398, are classified as tool steels, which are produced by powder metallurgy-HIP methods (hot isostatic pressing). The main goal of the presented paper is to propose the optimal tempered temperature of M398 steel and also to compare the tribological properties of both materials and to determine the degree of their wear depending on their final heat treatment. Partial results refer to the analysis of hardness, roughness, the overall wear mechanism, the change in the volume of retained austenite due to the tempering temperature, and the EDS analysis of the worn surfaces in individual contact pairs. A ceramic ball Al2O3 in the α phase was used as the contact material, which had a diameter of 6.35 mm. The ceramic ball performed a rotational movement on the experimental material surface at an elevated temperature of 200 °C using the dry ball-on-disk method. It was experimentally shown that the new M398 material can fully replace the M390 material because it exhibits significantly better tribological properties. The M398 material showed more than a 400% reduction in wear compared to the M390 material. The ideal heat treatment consisted of cryogenic quenching to −78 °C and a tempering temperature of 400 °C. At tempering temperatures of 200 and 400 °C, adhesive wear occurred, which was combined with abrasive wear at a tempered temperature of 600 °C. The averaged coefficient of friction (COF) results show that the M398 material presents less resistance in the friction process and its values are approximately 0.25, while the M390 material showed a COF value of 0.3 after the cryogenic hardening process. The friction surface roughness of the M398 materials also showed lower values compared to the M390 material by approximately 35%. Both of these results are related to the content of M7C3 and MC carbide particles based on Cr and V in the bulk of the material, which are in favor of the M398 material.  相似文献

Aluminum-based composite materials reinforced with fullerene soot, which is a mixture of fullerene and amorphous carbon, are promising materials for friction and wear applications. Composite materials: aluminum with 2% fullerene soot (f.s) and Al with 2% f.s and 2% Cu were obtained via mechanical milling followed by hot pressing. The tribological properties (friction and wear) of the listed composites were investigated and compared with the results for pure aluminum obtained under similar conditions. It has been shown that the addition of fullerene soot reduces the friction coefficient by 25%. At additional alloying with copper, the friction coefficient decreased by 35% in comparison with pure aluminum and also lad to a decrease in friction fluctuations. The wear rate of composite Al with 2% f.s decreased twice in comparison with that of pure aluminum, and with additional alloying it decreased 2.5 times. The morphology of the wear surfaces was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The influence of fullerene soot and additional alloying on the wear mechanism was shown.  相似文献

This paper studied a hybrid polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)/Nomex fabric composite with lower friction coefficient (COF) and high underwater wear resistance. A pin-on-disk tribometer was used to test tribological properties under different applied loads and rotation speeds. The wear surface, transfer film and cross-section were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical microscope. The results showed enhanced underwater tribological properties because of excellent self-lubricating properties of PTFE fibers and a good lubricating effect and load-carrying capacity of graphite fillers. Improved underwater mechanical strength was connected to the high strength of epoxy resin and high bonding force between Nomex and epoxy resin.  相似文献

In this study, AZ91/23 vol.% short carbon fiber composite was produced by a squeeze casting technique using a cylindrical pre-form of treated carbon fibers, in which the fibers are randomly oriented in the horizontal plane. Cylindrical specimens (height = 9 mm and diameter = 6 mm) were machined from the as-cast AZ91 matrix and its composite. The full behavior of the produced composite was studied through the test specimens machined in two directions, namely parallel to the reinforced plane (in the radial direction of the cast cylinder) and normal to the reinforced plane (in the axial direction of the cast composite). The microstructures of the produced composite specimens were investigated using SEM equipped with EDS analysis. Density, hardness, compressive, and wear behavior were also investigated. For comparison, the AZ91 matrix was evaluated as a reference. The microstructure of the produced AZ91 matrix alloy and its composite revealed dense materials without casting defects. Both composite specimens show improvement in hardness, compressive strength, and wear properties over the AZ91 matrix. The compressive and wear properties are more fiber orientation-dependent than the hardness results. The parallel composite specimen depicts the highest compressive properties in terms of yield compressive strength (311 MPa) and ultimate compressive strength (419 MPa), compared to that shown by the AZ91 matrix and the normal composite specimen. This improvement in compressive strength was at the expense of ductility. The parallel composite specimen shows the lowest ductility (R = 3.8%), compared to that given by the normal composite specimen (R = 7.1) and the AZ91 matrix alloy (R = 13.6). The wear testing results showed that at the highest wear load of 5 N, the material weight loss of the parallel composite specimen decreases by 44% and 64% compared to the AZ91 matrix and the normal composite specimen, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, we aim to evaluate the tribological, mechanical, and morphological performance of resin-based friction composites reinforced by sisal fibers with different shapes, namely helical, undulated, and straight shapes. The experimental results show that the shape of the sisal fibers exerts a significant effect on the impact property of the composite materials but no obvious influence on the density and hardness. The friction composite containing the helical-shaped sisal fibers exhibits the best overall tribological behaviors, with a relatively low fade (9.26%), high recovery (98.65%), and good wear resistance (2.061 × 10−7 cm3∙N−1∙m−1) compared with the other two composites containing undulated-shaped fibers and straight-shaped fibers. The impact fracture surfaces and worn surfaces of the composite materials were inspected by scanning electron microscopy, and we demonstrate that adding helical-shaped sisal fibers into the polymer composites provides an enhanced fiber–matrix interface adhesion condition and reduces the extent of fiber debonding and pullout, effectively facilitating the presence of more secondary plateaus on the friction surface, which are responsible for the enhanced tribological and mechanical properties. The outcome of this study reveals that sisal fibers with a helical shape could be a promising candidate as a reinforcement material for resin-based brake friction composite applications.  相似文献

With the aim of improving the durability and reliability of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) composites reinforced with carbon fiber (CF) as thrust bearings without lubricants, a reticulate surface texture was fabricated by plane honing on a stainless steel (SS) counterpart to promote its tribological properties. Pin-on-disk experiments were designed, with the results showing that the reticulate surface texture effectively reduces the friction coefficient from 0.40 to 0.20 compared with the polished SS surface, within the range of the pv value from 0.185 to 1.85 MPa∙m/s. The wear mechanism of the polished SS surface against CF-PEEK, proven with SEM and EDS observations as well as AE measurements, is revealed, falling into abrasive wear with SS particles embedded in the friction interface around the CF strips, causing three-body contact. The reduction in the friction coefficient of the textured SS disk against the CF-PEEK pin can be achieved due to diminution of the CF wear debris and SS particles, which are scraped off by the groove edges and trapped by the groove valleys, reducing the three-body abrasive wear, while the honed plateau is used as a flank surface like a cutting tool to scratch more soft PEEK particles as the transferred film, owing to adhesive wear. This investigation suggests that the SS disk with a honed surface structure can be used as the counterpart of CF-PEEK bearings with a low friction coefficient and wear rate under dry friction.  相似文献

Hybrid aluminium metal matrix composites have the potential to replace single reinforced aluminium metal matrix composites due to improved properties. Moreover, tribological performance is critical for these composites, as they have extensive application areas, such as the automotive, aerospace, marine and defence industries. The present work aims to establish the tribological characteristics of Al7068/Si3N4/BN hybrid metal matrix composites prepared by stir casting route and studied using a pin-on-disc apparatus under dry sliding conditions. The hybrid composite samples were prepared at various weight percentages (0, 5, 10) of Si3N4 and BN particles. To investigate the tribological performance of the prepared composites, the wear experiments were conducted by varying the load (20, 40 and 60 N), sliding velocity (1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 m/s) and sliding distance (500, 1000 and 1500 m). Wear experimental runs were carried out based on the plan of experiments proposed by Taguchi. The minimum wear rate was found with the composite material reinforced with 10 wt. % of Si3N4 and 5 wt. % of BN. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to analyse the effect of process parameters on wear rate and coefficient of friction (COF). The ANOVA test revealed that the weight fraction of Si3N4 has more of a contribution percentage (36.60%) on wear rate, and load has more of a contribution percentage (29.73%) on COF. The worn-out surface of the wear test specimens was studied using its corresponding SEM micrograph and correlated with the dry sliding wear experiment results.  相似文献

Vacuum environments provide challenging conditions for tribological systems. MoS2 is one of the materials commonly known to provide low friction for both ambient and vacuum conditions. However, it also exhibits poor wear resistance and low ability to withstand higher contact pressures. In search of wear-resistant alternatives, superhard hydrogen-free tetrahedral amorphous carbon coatings (ta-C) are explored in this study. Although known to have excellent friction and wear properties in ambient atmospheres, their vacuum performance is limited when self-paired and with steel. In this study, the influence of the paired material on the friction behavior of ta-C is studied using counterbodies made from brass, bronze, copper, silicon carbide, and aluminum oxide, as well as from steel and ta-C coatings as reference materials. Brass was found to be the most promising counterbody material and was further tested in direct comparison to steel, as well as in long-term performance experiments. It was shown that the brass/ta-C friction pair exhibits low friction (µ < 0.1) and high wear in the short term, irrespective of ambient pressure, whereas in the long term, the friction coefficient increases due to a change in the wear mechanism. Al2O3 was identified as another promising sliding partner against ta-C, with a higher friction coefficient than that of brass (µ = 0.3), but considerably lower wear. All other pairings exhibited high friction, high wear, or both.  相似文献

In this paper, the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced epoxy laminates are experimentally tested. The relaxation behavior of carbon and glass fiber composite laminates is investigated at room temperature. In addition, the impact strength under drop-weight loading is measured. The hand lay-up technique is used to fabricate composite laminates with woven 8-ply carbon and glass fiber reinforced epoxy. Tensile tests, cyclic relaxation tests and drop weight impacts are carried out on the carbon and glass fiber-reinforced epoxy laminates. The surface release energy GIC and the related fracture toughness KIC are important characteristic properties and are therefore measured experimentally using a standard test on centre-cracked specimens. The results show that carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy laminates with high tensile strength give high cyclic relaxation performance, better than the specimens with glass fiber composite laminates. This is due to the higher strength and stiffness of carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy with 600 MPa compared to glass fiber-reinforced epoxy with 200 MPa. While glass fibers show better impact behavior than carbon fibers at impact energies between 1.9 and 2.7 J, this is due to the large amount of epoxy resin in the case of glass fiber composite laminates, while the impact behavior is different at impact energies between 2.7 and 3.4 J. The fracture toughness KIC is measured to be 192 and 31 MPa √m and the surface energy GIC is measured to be 540.6 and 31.1 kJ/m2 for carbon and glass fiber-reinforced epoxy laminates, respectively.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of investigations on the glass fiber reinforced composite for the floor panels with quartz powder additions of different percentages in terms of wear resistance, friction coefficient, hardness, and strength. The wear resistance was assessed using the specific wear work parameter determined by the novel tribotester with friction band. It was found that an increase in quartz powder addition to the tested polymer composite does not enhance its mechanical increasingly properties. From the wear tests it can be concluded that only the composite with four layers of glass fibers and 6 wt.% of the quartz powder exhibited improvement of the wear resistance, but its shear strength was lower than that of the two layer specimens with similar powder proportions. On the other hand, the highest friction coefficient’s, which is microhardness HV05, shear strength and impact strength were attained for the composite with two layers of glass fibers and 3 wt.% of the quartz powder. Among four layer samples, very close results were obtained for the samples with 10% of powder and insignificantly lower strength were observed for the samples with no powder added. The results revealed that there is no clear trend for the effect of silica filler percentage on the composite performance, which indicates the need for individual purpose-dependent decision making in the design of the glass fiber reinforced composites with quartz powder filler.  相似文献

This article concerns the tribological properties of three selected polymer materials: polyamide PA6, polyethylene PE-HD and polyetheretherketone composite PEEK/BG during sliding against aluminium alloy EN AW-2017A in the presence of hydraulic oil HLP 68. The tests were carried out under contact pressure p of 3.5–11 MPa at ambient temperature T ranging from −20 °C to +20 °C. The dependence of kinetic friction coefficient μk on the two parameters was determined through tribological tests carried out using a pin-on-disc tribometer. A five-level central composite rotatable design (CCRD) was adopted for the experiment. All the test results were statistically analysed. The microhardness of the surface of the polymeric material was measured before and after the friction process. The surface was also examined under SEM. Temperature and contact pressure have been found to have a significant effect on the tribological properties of the tested sliding pairs. Relative to the applied friction conditions, the surfaces after friction showed rather heavy signs of wear.  相似文献

The polymer water-lubricated bearing is widely used in marine transmission systems, and the tribological properties can be improved by addition of inorganic nano-fillers. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of SCFs and temperature on the water-lubricating properties of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composites. HDPE composites reinforced by varying content of short carbon fibers (SCFs) were fabricated via twin-screw extrusion and injection molding techniques to study the hardness and surface wettability of those composites. The tribological properties under water-lubricated conditions were investigated through a pin-on-disk reciprocating tribometer under different temperatures. The results showed that the increase in hardness of HDPE composites reached maximum to 42.9% after adding 25 wt % SCFs. The contact angle also increased with the increase in SCFs content and reached a maximum of 95.2° as the amount of SCFs increased to 20 wt %. The incorporation of SCFs increased the wear resistance and lubricating property of HDPE composites at different temperatures. The HDPE composite containing 20 wt % SCFs showed the lowest friction coefficient of 0.076 at 40 °C, and the wear track depth reached a maximum of 36.3 mm at 60 °C. Based on the surface wetting property and wear analysis, potential effect mechanisms of fillers and temperature were discussed. The knowledge from this study is useful for designing the anti-wear water-lubricated polymer bearing.  相似文献

This paper presents the static mechanical behavior and the dynamic thermomechanical properties of four market-available reinforced and non-reinforced thermoplastics and photopolymer materials used as precursors in different additive manufacturing technologies. This article proposes a characterization approach to further address development of aeronautic secondary structures via 3D-printed composite materials replacing conventional manufactured carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. Different 3D printing materials, technologies, printing directions, and parameters were investigated. Experimental results showed that carbon-reinforced ONYX_R material exhibits a transition point at 114 °C, a 600 MPa tensile strength, and an average tensile strain of 2.5%, comparable with conventional CFRP composites manufactured via autoclave, making it a suitable candidate for replacing CFRP composites, in the aim of taking advantage of 3D printing technologies. ONYX material exhibits higher stiffness than Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Copolymer (ABS), or conventional Nylon 6/6 polyamide, the flexural modulus being 2.5 GPa; nevertheless, the 27 °C determined transition temperature limits its stability at higher temperature. Daylight High Tensile (further called HTS) resin exhibits a tensile strength and strain increase when shifting the printing direction from transversal to longitudinal, while no effect was observed in HighTemp DL400 resin (further called HTP).  相似文献

The wear resistance of diffusion coatings in conditions of specific pressures of 3, 7 and 10 MPa was studied. The boride coatings were prepared by means of diffusion methods using C45 steel as the substrate material. Research on the microstructure and redistribution of chemical elements on wear surface of a borided layer was carried out. It was found that the boride coatings should be used under a specific pressure of 7 MPa. It was found that the wear of friction couple coating of steel C45 under specific pressure of 3 MPa proceeds according to the oxidation wear mechanism, while under specific pressures of 7 and 10 MPa the abrasive wear prevails. The wear-induced segregation of atoms in coatings was studied using secondary mass-spectroscopy method (SIMS). Increased C, O, and B concentrations were noticed at the wear surface on depth from 50 to 2000 Å. The secondary wear-induced structure formation on the wear surface resulted in high wear resistance of diffusion borided coatings.  相似文献

Due to their excellent synergistic properties, Aluminum Matrix Composites (AMC) have achieved a high degree of prominence in different industries. In addition to strength, the wear resistance of materials is also an important criterion for numerous applications. The wear resistance depends on the surface topography as well as the working conditions of the interacting parts. Therefore, extensive experiments are being conducted to improve the suitability of engineering materials (including AMC) for different applications. This paper presents research on manufactured aluminum metal matrix composites reinforced with 10 wt.% of Al2SiO5 (aluminum sillimanite). The manufactured and prepared samples were subjected to surface topography measurements and to tribological studies both with and without lubricant using a block-on-ring tester. Based on the results, analyses of the surface topography (i.e., surface roughness parameters, Abbott–Firestone curve, and surface defects) as well as of the tribological characteristics (i.a. friction coefficient, linear wear, and wear intensity) were performed. Differences in the surface topography of the manufactured elements were shown. The surface topography had a significant impact on tribological characteristics of the sliding joints in the tests where lubrication was and was not used. Better tribological characteristics were obtained for the surfaces characterized by greater roughness (determined on the basis of both the profile and surface texture parameters). In the case of tribological tests with lubrication, the friction coefficient as well as the wear intensity was significantly lower compared to tribological tests without lubrication. However, lower values of the friction coefficient and wear intensity were still recorded for the surfaces that were characterized by greater roughness. The obtained results showed that it is important to analyze the surface topography because surface characteristics influence tribological properties.  相似文献

The pin on the disc friction tester was used to conduct the intermittent braking testing of train brake materials with a low-temperature environment simulation device at temperatures 20 °C, 0 °C, −10 °C, −20 °C, and −30 °C. The results show that intermittent braking presents different wear characteristics of braking materials at low temperatures. Under different ambient temperature conditions, the most volatile friction coefficient caused by intermittent braking happens at 0 °C, and the wear rate of brake materials reaches its maximum at 0 °C. The wear surface morphology of the brake pad material mainly includes scratches, furrows, adhesions, and abscission pits, while the surface of the brake disc material was dominated by scratches, furrows, and adhesions. With the decrease in temperature, the adhesion damage of the brake pad/disc material increases. At 0 °C, the brake pad material has crack damage.  相似文献

This paper reports a novel pocket-textured surface for improving the tribological properties of point contact under starved lubrication by possibly storing and releasing oil, and homogenizing the surface contact pressure. The ball-on-disk experimental results confirmed the coefficient of friction (COF) and wear reduction effect of such pocket-texturing. The maximum reduction rate was 40% compared with a flat surface under the same operating conditions. Analyses on experimental results attributed the oil storage effect and enhanced the secondary lubrication effect within the starved lubrication state, to become the main mechanism. In addition, the plate elasticity and the Hertzian contact principles were employed to estimate the pressure and the load acting on the surface. The experimental results and numerical analysis substantiated the design of pocket-textured surface, making it likely to enlarge about 50% of contact surface and to reduce 90% of equivalent stress in comparison to those of conventional surfaces.  相似文献

The load on drive elements under extreme pressure conditions is significantly larger than that used in machine tools. When operating under a heavy load for a long period, large deformation and severe wear between the ball and the track are more likely to occur. To reduce wear, the most fundamental solution is to improve the surface properties of the material. Moreover, heat treatment is the most effective method to improve the surface properties of materials, thereby achieving wear resistance and low friction. It is necessary to develop a new heat treatment technology for wear resistance in extreme pressure conditions. Therefore, this study conducted experiments using a reciprocating friction tester. The responses of electrical contact resistance and the friction coefficient were measured synchronously to investigate wear resistance and low friction of the alloy steels after the induction heat treatment. Then, the results were compared and verified with low-carbon alloy steel after the traditional carburizing heat treatment. The experimental results show that the application of new induction heat treatment technology can not only improve the performance of drive components, but also save time and energy, and streamline the production process of the drive components. Therefore, the results of these wear analyses confirm that the induction heat treatment mode can replace the traditional carburizing heat treatment mode for drive elements.  相似文献
