Electron beam directed energy deposition (EB-DED) is a promising manufacturing process for the fabrication of large-scale, fully dense and near net shape metallic components. However, limited knowledge is available on the EB-DED process of titanium alloys. In this study, a near-α high-temperature titanium alloy Ti60 (Ti-5.8Al-4Sn-4Zr-0.7Nb-1.5Ta-0.4Si) was fabricated via EB-DED. The chemical composition, microstructure, tensile property (at room temperature and 600 °C), and creep behavior of the fabricated alloy were investigated and compared with those of the conventional wrought lamellar and bimodal counterparts. Results indicated that the average evaporation loss of Al and Sn was 10.28% and 5.01%, respectively. The microstructure of the as-built alloy was characterized by coarse columnar grains, lamellar α, and the precipitated elliptical silicides at the α/β interfaces. In terms of tensile properties, the vertical specimens exhibited lower strength but higher ductility than the horizontal specimens at both room temperature and 600 °C. Furthermore, the tensile creep strain of the EB-DED Ti60 alloy measured at 600 °C and 150 MPa for 100 h under as-built and post-deposition STA conditions was less than 0.15%, which meets the standard requirements for the wrought Ti60 alloy. The creep resistance of the EB-DED Ti60 alloy was superior to that of its wrought bimodal counterpart.  相似文献

An unmodified, non-spherical, hydride-dehydride (HDH) Ti-6Al-4V powder having a substantial economic advantage over spherical, atomized Ti-6Al-4V alloy powder was used to fabricate a range of test components and aerospace-related products utilizing laser beam powder-bed fusion processing. The as-built products, utilizing optimized processing parameters, had a Rockwell-C scale (HRC) hardness of 44.6. Following heat treatments which included annealing at 704 °C, HIP at ~926 °C (average), and HIP + anneal, the HRC hardnesses were observed to be 43.9, 40.7, and 40.4, respectively. The corresponding tensile yield stress, UTS, and elongation for these heat treatments averaged 1.19 GPa, 1.22 GPa, 8.7%; 1.03 GPa, 1.08 GPa, 16.7%; 1.04 GPa, 1.09 GPa, 16.1%, respectively. The HIP yield strength and elongation of 1.03 GPa and 16.7% are comparable to the best commercial, wrought Ti-6Al-4V products. The corresponding HIP component microstructures consisted of elongated small grains (~125 microns diameter) containing fine, alpha/beta lamellae.  相似文献

In this work, the effect of double-ageing heat treatments on the microstructural evolution and mechanical behaviour of a metastable β-titanium Ti-3.5Al-5Mo-4V alloy is investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The double-ageing treatments are composed of low-temperature pre-ageing and high-temperature ageing, where the low-temperature pre-ageing is conducted at 300 °C or 350 °C for different times, and the high-temperature ageing is conducted at 500 °C for 8 h. The results show that the phase transformation sequence is altered with the time spent during the first ageing stage, the isothermal ω phase is precipitated in the pre-ageing process of the alloy at 300 °C and 350 °C with the change in the ageing time, and the ω phase is finally transformed into the α phase with the extension of pre-ageing time. The existence time of the ω phase is shortened as the pre-ageing temperature increases. The microhardness of the alloy increases with increasing pre-ageing time and temperature. Compared with single-stage ageing, the ω phase formed in the pre-ageing stage changes the response to subsequent high-temperature ageing. After the two-stage ageing treatment, the precipitation size of the α phase is obviously refined after the double-ageing treatment. A microhardness test shows that the microhardness of the two-stage aged alloy increases with extended pre-ageing time.  相似文献

TiB crystal whiskers (TiBw) can be synthesized in situ in Ti alloy matrix through powder metallurgy for the preparation of a new type of ceramic fiber-reinforced Ti matrix composite (TMC) TiBw/Ti-6Al-4V. In the TiBw/Ti-6Al-4V TMC, the reinforced phase/matrix interface is clean and has superior comprehensive mechanical properties, but its machinability is degraded. Hence, the bonding of reliable materials is important. To further optimize the TiBw/Ti-6Al-4V brazing technology and determine the relationship between the microstructure and tensile property of the brazed joint, results demonstrate that the elements of brazing filler metal are under sufficient and uniform diffusion, the microstructure is the typical Widmanstätten structure, and fine granular compounds in β phase are observed. The average tensile strength of the brazing specimen is 998 MPa under room temperature, which is 97.3% of that of the base metal. During the high-temperature (400 °C) tensile process, a fracture occurred at the base metal of the highest tensile test specimen with strength reaching 689 MPa, and the tensile fracture involved a combination of intergranular and transgranular modes at both room temperature and 400 °C. The fracture surface has dimples, secondary cracks are generated by the fracture of TiB whiskers, and large holes form when whole TiB whiskers are removed. The proposed algorithm provides evidence for promoting the application of TiBw/Ti-6Al-4V TMCs in practical production.  相似文献

Among laser additive manufacturing, selective laser melting (SLM) is one of the most popular methods to produce 3D printing products. The SLM process creates a product by selectively dissolving a layer of powder. However, due to the layerwise printing of metal powders, the initial microstructure is fully acicular α′-martensitic, and mechanical properties of the resultant product are often compromised. In this study, Ti-6Al-4V alloy was prepared using SLM method. The effect of heat treatment was carried out on as-built SLM Ti-6Al-4V alloy from 650–1000 °C to study respective changes in the morphology of α/α′-martensite and mechanical properties. The phase transition temperature was also analyzed through differential thermal analysis (DTA), and the microstructural studies were undertaken by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The mechanical properties were assessed by microhardness and compressive tests before and after heat treatment. The results showed that heat treated samples resulted in a reduction in interior defects and pores and turned the morphology of the α′-martensite into a lamellar (α + β) structure. The strength was significantly reduced after heat treatment, but the elongation was improved due to the reduction in columnar α′-martensite phase. An optimum set of strength and elongation was found at 900 °C.  相似文献

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is being increasingly used in the fabrication of complex-shaped structure parts with high precision. It is easy to form martensitic microstructure in Ti-6Al-4V alloy during manufacturing. Pre-heating the powder bed can enhance the thermal field produced by cyclic laser heating during LPBF, which can tailor the microstructure and further improve the mechanical properties. In the present study, all the Ti-6Al-4V alloy samples manufactured by LPBF at different powder bed temperatures exhibit a near-full densification state, with the densification ratio of above 99.4%. When the powder bed temperature is lower than 400 °C, the specimens are composed of a single α′ martensite. As the temperature elevates to higher than 400 °C, the α and β phase precipitate at the α′ martensite boundaries by the diffusion and redistribution of V element. In addition, the α/α′ lath coarsening is presented with the increasing powder bed temperature. The specimens manufactured at the temperature lower than 400 °C exhibit high strength but bad ductility. Moreover, the ultimate tensile strength and yield strength reduce slightly, whereas the ductility is improved dramatically with the increasing temperature, when it is higher than 400 °C.  相似文献

This work focuses on the effect of different heat treatments on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy processed by means of electron beam melting (EBM). Super β-transus annealing was conducted at 1050 °C for 1 h on Ti-6Al-4V samples, considering two different cooling paths (furnace cooling and water quenching). This heat treatment induces microstructural recrystallization, thus reducing the anisotropy generated by the EBM process (columnar prior-β grains). Subsequently, the annealed furnace-cooled and water-quenched samples were aged at 540 °C for 4 h. The results showed the influence of the aging treatment on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the annealed EBM-produced Ti-6Al-4V. A comparison with the traditional processed heat-treated material was also conducted. In the furnace-cooled specimens consisting of lamellar α+β, the aging treatment improved ductility and strength by inducing microstructural thickening of the α laths and reducing the β fraction. The effect of the aging treatment was also more marked in the water-quenched samples, characterized by high tensile strengths but limited ductility due to the presence of martensite. In fact, the aging treatment was effective in the recovery of the ductility loss, maintaining high tensile strength properties due to the variation in the relative number of α/α’ interfaces resulting from α’ decomposition. This study, therefore, offers an in-depth investigation of the potential beneficial effects of the aging treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the EBM-processed super β-transus heat-treated Ti-6Al-4V alloy under different cooling conditions.  相似文献

The conventional processing route of TNM (Ti-Nb-Mo) alloys combines casting and Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) followed by forging and multiple heat treatments to establish optimum properties. This is a time-consuming and costly process. In this study we present an advanced alternative TNM alloy processing route combining HIP and heat treatments into a single process, which we refer to as IHT (integrated HIP heat treatment), applied to a modified TNM alloy with 1.5B. A Quintus HIP lab unit with a quenching module was used, achieving fast and controlled cooling, which differs from the slow cooling rates of conventional HIP units. A Ti-42.5Al-3.5Nb-1Mo-1.5B (at.%) was subjected to an integrated two HIP steps at 200 MPa, one at 1250 °C for 3 h and another at 1260 °C for 1 h, both under a protective Ar atmosphere and followed by cooling at 30 K/min down to room temperature. The results were compared against the Ti-43.5Al-3.5Nb-1Mo-0.8B (at.%) thermomechanically processed in a conventional way. Applying IHT processing to the 1.5B alloy does indeed achieve good creep strength, and the secondary creep rate of the IHT processed materials is similar to that of conventionally forged TNM alloys. Thus, the proposed advanced IHT processing route could manufacture more cost-effective TiAl components.  相似文献

In the present work, the mechanical properties of the DLD-processed Ti-6Al-4V alloy were obtained by tensile tests performed at different temperatures, ranging from 20 °C to 800 °C. Thereby, the process conditions were close to the conditions used to produce large-sized structures using the DLD method, resulting in specimens having the same initial martensitic microstructure. According to the obtained stress curves, the yield strength decreases gradually by 40% when the temperature is increased to 500 °C. Similar behavior is observed for the tensile strength. However, further heating above 500 °C leads to a significant increase in the softening rate. It was found that the DLD-processed Ti-6Al-4V alloy had a Young’s modulus with higher thermal stability than conventionally processed alloys. At 500 °C, the Young’s modulus of the DLD alloy was 46% higher than that of the wrought alloy. The influence of the thermal history on the stress relaxation for the cases where 500 °C and 700 °C were the maximum temperatures was studied. It was revealed that stress relaxation processes are decisive for the formation of residual stresses at temperatures above 700 °C, which is especially important for small-sized parts produced by the DLD method. The coefficient of thermal expansion was investigated up to 1050 °C.  相似文献

In the present work, we investigated the possibility of introducing fine and densely distributed α-Al(MnFe)Si dispersoids into the microstructure of extruded Al-Mg-Si-Mn AA6082 alloys containing 0.5 and 1 wt % Mn through tailoring the processing route as well as their effects on room- and elevated-temperature strength and creep resistance. The results show that the fine dispersoids formed during low-temperature homogenization experienced less coarsening when subsequently extruded at 350 °C than when subjected to a more typical high-temperature extrusion at 500 °C. After aging, a significant strengthening effect was produced by β″ precipitates in all conditions studied. Fine dispersoids offered complimentary strengthening, further enhancing the room-temperature compressive yield strength by up to 72–77 MPa (≈28%) relative to the alloy with coarse dispersoids. During thermal exposure at 300 °C for 100 h, β″ precipitates transformed into undesirable β-Mg2Si, while thermally stable dispersoids provided the predominant elevated-temperature strengthening effect. Compared to the base case with coarse dispersoids, fine and densely distributed dispersoids with the new processing route more than doubled the yield strength at 300 °C. In addition, finer dispersoids obtained by extrusion at 350 °C improved the yield strength at 300 °C by 17% compared to that at 500 °C. The creep resistance at 300 °C was greatly improved by an order of magnitude from the coarse dispersoid condition to one containing fine and densely distributed dispersoids, highlighting the high efficacy of the new processing route in enhancing the elevated-temperature properties of extruded Al-Mg-Si-Mn alloys.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to develop a new Al–Mg–Si–Zr alloy with a high magnesium content to achieve a wide range of mechanical properties using heat treatment and at a lower cost. Additive manufacturing was conducted using a powder bed fusion process with various scan speeds to change the volumetric energy density and establish optimal process conditions. In addition, mechanical properties were evaluated using heat treatment under various conditions. The characterization of the microstructure was conducted by scanning electron microscopy with electron backscatter diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The mechanical properties were determined by tensile tests. The as-built specimen showed a yield strength of 447.9 ± 3.6 MPa, a tensile strength of 493.4 ± 6.7 MPa, and an elongation of 9.6 ± 1.1%. Moreover, the mechanical properties could be adjusted according to various heat treatment conditions. Specifically, under the HT1 (low-temperature artificial aging) condition, the ultimate tensile strength increased to 503.2 ± 1.1 MPa, and under the HT2 (high-temperature artificial aging) condition, the yield strength increased to 467 ± 1.3 MPa. It was confirmed that the maximum elongation (14.3 ± 0.8%) was exhibited with the HT3 (soft annealing) heat treatment.  相似文献

The feasibility and efficacy of improving the mechanical response of Al–Mg–Si 6082 structural alloys during high temperature exposure through the incorporation of a high number of α-dispersoids in the aluminum matrix were investigated. The mechanical response of the alloys was characterized based on the instantaneous high-temperature and residual room-temperature strengths during and after isothermal exposure at various temperatures and durations. When exposed to 200 °C, the yield strength (YS) of the alloys was largely governed by β” precipitates. At 300 °C, β” transformed into coarse β’, thereby leading to the degradation of the instantaneous and residual YSs of the alloys. The strength improvement by the fine and dense dispersoids became evident owing to their complementary strengthening effect. At higher exposure temperatures (350–450 °C), the further improvement of the mechanical response became much more pronounced for the alloy containing fine and dense dispersoids. Its instantaneous YS was improved by 150–180% relative to the base alloy free of dispersoids, and the residual YS was raised by 140% after being exposed to 400–450 °C for 2 h. The results demonstrate that introducing thermally stable dispersoids is a cost-effective and promising approach for improving the mechanical response of aluminum structures during high temperature exposure.  相似文献

The present work investigated the effect of aging treatment on the microstructure and tensile properties of an Al-2%Cu base alloy containing various additions of Zr and other alloying elements. Aging was carried out at temperatures of 180–300 °C for different aging times at each temperature. The tensile properties indicated that Zr additions improved the strength of the base alloy, especially at high Zr levels at 180 °C. At the 220 °C aging temperature, however, while Zr addition did not have a beneficial effect on the alloy strength, the ductility was found to improve. Zr-Ti combined additions had a significant effect on the microstructure of the base alloy, as the morphology of the α-Al grains transformed into a non-dendritic morphology, and the grain size decreased sharply. These effects were at their maximum at 180 °C and 0.5 wt% Zr addition. Moreover, the Zr-containing alloys aged at higher temperatures, such as 220 °C and 240 °C, maintained a noticeably higher level of strength over the base alloy aged at the same temperatures. Quality index charts based on the tensile test data also reflected an improvement in alloy quality and strength with Zr-Ti combined additions.  相似文献

Zr, Nb, and Ta as alloying elements for Ti alloys are important for attaining superior corrosion resistance and biocompatibility in the long term. However, note that the addition of excess Nb and Ta to Ti alloys leads to higher manufacturing cost. To develop low-cost manufacturing processes, the effects of hot-forging and continuous-hot-rolling conditions on the microstructure, mechanical properties, hot forgeability, and fatigue strength of Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta alloy were investigated. The temperature dependences with a temperature difference (ΔT) from β-transus temperature (Tβ) for the volume fraction of the α- and β-phases were almost the same for both Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta and Ti-6Al-4V alloys. In the α-β-forged Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta alloy, a fine granular α-phase structure containing a fine granular β-phase at grain boundaries of an equiaxed α-phase was observed. The Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta alloy billet forged at Tβ-(30 to 50) °C exhibited high strength and excellent ductility. The effects of forging ratio on mechanical strength and ductility were small at a forging ratio of more than 3. The maximum strength (σmax) markedly increased with decreasing testing temperature below Tβ. The reduction in area (R.A.) value slowly decreased with decreasing testing temperature below Tβ. The temperature dependences of σmax for the Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta and Ti-6Al-4V alloys show the same tendency and might be caused by the temperature difference (ΔT) from Tβ. It was clarified that Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta alloy could be manufactured using the same manufacturing process as for previously approved Ti-6Al-4V alloy, taking into account the difference (ΔT) between Tβ and heat treatment temperature. Also, the manufacturing equivalency of Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta alloy to obtain marketing approval of implants was established. Thus, it was concluded that continuous hot rolling is useful for manufacturing α-β-type Ti alloy.  相似文献

Thin T2 copper sheets with nine different thicknesses were employed in uniaxial tensile tests to investigate the influence of service temperature and thickness on their tensile properties. A total of 33 groups of tensile samples were separately tested at 20 °C, 100 °C, 150 °C, 200 °C, and 250 °C to obtain their elongation and their tensile and yield strengths. The change laws of the tensile properties of the investigated T2 copper were analyzed using different fitting functions. The main results show that both sheet thickness and temperature have an important influence on the tensile properties of T2 copper. As the sheet thickness increased, the tensile and yield strengths of the tested materials first increased rapidly, then decreased sharply, and finally stabilized. As the temperature increased, the tensile strength increased linearly while the yield strength decreased linearly. The relationships between the elongation and the sheet thickness and temperature were exponential and polynomial functions, respectively. TtRm, TtRel, and Ttδ empirical formulas were proposed and established to predict the tensile properties of the investigated T2 copper sheet, and the predictive models exhibited solid accuracy.  相似文献

Ti-5Al-4Sn-2Zr-1Mo-0.25Si-1Nb (TA32) titanium alloy is a kind of near α high temperature titanium alloy with great application prospects in aero-engine afterburners and cruise missiles. However, there are still few studies on the microstructure and mechanical properties of TA32 specimens produced by selective laser melting (SLM) technology. In this study, TA32 specimens with high strength (tensile strength of 1267 MPa) and moderate ductility (elongation after fracture of 8%) were obtained by selective laser melting. The effect of laser power on the microstructure and mechanical behavior was studied and the results demonstrated that the average grain size increases with increasing laser power from 200 W to 400 W. Micro-zone composition analysis was carried out by energy dispersion spectrum (EDS), showing that the Al concentration inner grains is higher than that near grain boundaries. Fracture analysis results demonstrated that the fracture mode of SLM TA32 specimens was cleavage fracture. The tensile strength of the specimens built with a laser power of 250 W at 500 °C, 550 °C and 600 °C was measured as 869 MPa, 819 MPa and 712 MPa, respectively.  相似文献

Ti-6Al-4V profiles prepared by hot extrusion are usually accompanied by bending and twisting. The hot twist-stretch straightening is an effective strategy such that the bending deflection and twisting angle can be simultaneously decreased by a single straightening process. In addition, utilizing stress relaxation effect, the residual stress and springback can be greatly reduced by holding the straightening temperature and strain constant for a period after twist-stretch straightening. In this study, the hot deformation behaviors of the Ti-6Al-4V profile were revealed by experiments. The tensile model was obtained by uniaxial tensile tests within ranges of temperatures (500–700 °C) and strain rates (5 × 10−5–1 × 10−3 s−1). The creep constitutive model was acquired with stress relaxation experiments in ranges of temperatures (500–700 °C) and pre-strain of 1.5%. Then, the coupled thermo-mechanical model of hot twist-stretch straightening was established. Based on orthogonal experiment strategy, the effects of straightening temperature, stretch strain, and holding time on the bending deflection and torsion angle of profile were investigated systematically and the process was optimized. The straightening accuracy is significantly affected by straightening temperature and holding time. By using optimized process parameters in practical straightening experiments, the deflection/length and angle/length after straightening does not exceed 2‰ and 2.5‰°/mm, respectively, which is basically consistent with the numerical simulation result.  相似文献

In the present work, the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy during multidirectional isothermal forging (MDIF) were systematically investigated. The evolution of the microstructure and texture of Ti-6Al-4V alloy during MDIF was studied using TEM and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). The experiment results showed that the grain size decreased with the increase in cumulative strain, especially in the easy deformation zone. After four deformation cycles, a homogeneous equiaxed grained microstructure with an average grain size of 0.14 μm was achieved. The texture changes of the alloy were studied in detail. After one cycle of MDIF, the texture was mainly composed of (0002) [0110], and the Euler angles were (8°, 30°, 30°). The density of texture decreased with the increase in loading cycle, but the dispersion of texture increased. After four cycles of MDIF, the non-basal texture (1010) <1102> texture was observed, and the Euler angles were (82°, 33°, 0°). The highest achieved mechanical properties for Ti-6Al-4V alloy in the MDIF condition were a yield strength 900 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of 921 MPa, and an elongation of 12.1% at room temperature. The increase in MDIF cycles improved the hardness of the alloy. The significant improvement in mechanical properties was attributed to the ultrafine-grained microstructure.  相似文献

This research aims to explore the high-temperature and low-temperature performances of lignin–waste engine oil-modified asphalt binder and its mixture. For this research, the lignin with two contents (4%, 6%) and waste engine oil with two contents (3%, 5%) were adopted to modify the control asphalt binder (PG 58-28). The high-temperature rheological properties of the lignin–waste engine oil-modified asphalt binder were investigated by the viscosity obtained by the Brookfield viscometer and the temperature sweep test by the dynamic shear rheometer. The low-temperature rheological property of the lignin–waste engine oil-modified asphalt binder was evaluated by the stiffness and m-value at two different temperatures (−18 °C, −12 °C) obtained by the bending beam rheometer. The high-temperature and the low-temperature performances of the lignin–waste engine oil-modified asphalt mixture were explored by the rutting test and low-temperature bending beam test. The results displayed that the rotational viscosity and rutting factor improved with the addition of lignin and decreased with the incorporation of waste engine oil. Adding the lignin into the control asphalt binder enhanced the elastic component while adding the waste engine oil lowered the elastic component of the asphalt binder. The stiffness of asphalt binder LO60 could not meet the requirement in the specification, but the waste engine oil made it reach the requirement based on the bending beam rheometer test. The waste engine oil could enhance the low-temperature performance. The dynamic stabilities of LO40- and LO60-modified asphalt mixture increased by about 9.05% and 17.41%, compared to the control mixture, respectively. The maximum tensile strain of LO45 and LO65 increased by 16.39% and 25.28% compared to that of LO40 and LO60, respectively. The high- and low-temperature performances of the lignin–waste engine oil-modified asphalt LO65 was higher than that of the control asphalt. The dynamic stability had a good linear relationship with viscosity, the rutting factor of the unaged at 58 °C, and the rutting factor of the aged at 58 °C, while the maximum tensile strain had a good linear relationship with m-value at −18 °C. This research provides a theoretical basis for the further applications of lignin–waste engine oil-modified asphalt.  相似文献

To study the heat-treatment process of a semi-solid copper alloy, a thixotropic back-extruded tin–bronze shaft sleeve was heat-treated at 630 °C, 660 °C, 690 °C and 720 °C for 1 h, respectively. Microstructure changes and mechanical properties under different solution temperatures of shaft sleeve were characterized using a metallographic microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), hardness tester, and tensile tester. The results show that the tensile strength first increases and then decreases; the elongation decreases; and the Brinell hardness increases gradually with increasing solution temperature. When the solution treatment is at 690 °C, the tin–bronze shaft sleeve’s microstructure and comprehensive mechanical properties are the best. The shape factor is 0.75, the average grain size is 82.52 μm, the Brinell hardness is 122 HBW, the tensile strength is 437 MPa, and the elongation is 17.4%, which is 3.4 times higher than that before solution treatment.  相似文献
