IntroductionThe aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of rotary (ProTaper Next [PTN; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland] and ProTaper Gold [PTG, Dentsply Maillefer]) and reciprocating (WaveOne Gold [WOG, Dentsply Maillefer]) systems in dentinal microcrack generation after the preparation of curved root canals using micro–computed tomographic analysis.MethodsTwenty-four human mandibular molars with curved roots were scanned in a micro–computed tomographic device using an isotropic resolution of 6.78 μm and randomly assigned into 1 of 3 experimental groups (n = 8) according to the root canal instrumentation system used (PTN, PTG, or WOG). Then, the root canals were prepared up to PTN X2, PTG F2, and WOG Primary instruments in the PTN, PTG, and WOG groups, respectively. After canal preparation, each specimen was scanned again. Pre- and postoperative cross-sectional images of the roots (N = 35,304) were analyzed to identify the presence of dentinal microcracks.ResultsOverall, 26% of the images presented dentinal defects (n = 9188). Dentinal microcracks were observed in 24.6%, 26%, and 27.4% of the postinstrumentation images from the PTN, PTG, and WOG groups, respectively. However, all of these dentinal microcracks were already present in the corresponding preoperative images. No new microcracks were generated after the preparation of curved root canals of mandibular molars using the aforementioned systems.ConclusionsRoot canal instrumentation with PTN, PTG, and WOG systems did not induce the formation of new dentinal microcracks.  相似文献

Objectives

To compare the remaining root canal filling material, dentin removal, apical transportation, and apical extrusion of debris after the retreatment of canals filled with bioceramic or resin-based sealers using the Reciproc or Reciproc Blue instruments.

Materials and methods

Sixty mandibular molars with severely curved mesial roots were selected. The samples were initially instrumented with Reciproc (R25) and then divided into four experimental groups according to the endodontic sealer and retreatment instrument (n = 15): BC Sealer/Reciproc (BCRC), BC Sealer/Reciproc Blue (BCRB), AH Plus/Reciproc (AHRC), and AH Plus/Reciproc Blue (AHRB). The procedure time was measured, and an Eppendorf tube was used in each root canal to store the debris extrusion. The samples were scanned by micro-CT before and after retreatment. The apical transportation, volume of dentin, and filling material were evaluated.

Results

There were no significant differences in the reduction of the volume of obturator material or dentin removal between groups (p > .05). There were also no differences in the amount of extruded material or apical transportation (p > .05). The retreatment time for the AHRC group was significantly lower than that for the other groups (p = .004).

Conclusions

All tested instruments obtained similar efficacy in filling material removal procedures, although no system completely removed the filling material. Retreatment of canals filled with bioceramic BC Sealer may be more time consuming.

Clinical relevance

This study reported that Reciproc and Reciproc Blue can be indicated in retreatment of severely curved root canals filled either with bioceramic or resin-based sealers.

The shaping outcomes after instrumentation with rotary and reciprocating glide path and shaping systems were evaluated through micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT). Thirty extracted maxillary first molars were selected. Mesio-buccal canals were randomized into two groups (n?=?15): rotary system ProGlider and ProTaper Next X1, X2 (PG-PTN) and reciprocating system WaveOne Gold Glider and WaveOne Gold Primary (WOGG-WOG). Specimens were micro-CT scanned before, after glide path and after shaping. Increase in canal volume and surface area, percentage of removed dentin from the inner curvature, centroid shift and canal geometry variation through ratio of diameter ratios (RDR) and ratio of cross-sectional areas (RA) were measured in the apical and coronal levels and at the point of maximum curvature. The number of pecking motions needed to reach the working length (WL) was recorded. One-way ANOVA and post hoc Turkey–Kramer tests were used (p?<?0.05). Post-glide path analysis revealed that in the coronal third, RDR was more favorable to PG and centroid shift was lower for WOGG in the apical third. Post-shaping analysis showed a reduced removal of dentin and a more favorable RA for PTN at point of maximum curvature. The number of pecking motions up to WL resulted in different between groups both for glide path and shaping phases. Despite a higher dentin removal for reciprocating instruments at the point of maximum curvature, both systems seemed to produce well-centered glide path and shaping outcomes. Rotary and reciprocating systems seemed able to respect the original canal anatomy.

IntroductionThe aim of this study was to evaluate the extrusion of debris associated with the use of the Reciproc (VDW GmbH, Munich, Germany) and WaveOne Gold (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) reciprocating systems in curved canals instrumented up to different working lengths (WLs).MethodsSixty mesial roots of extracted mandibular first molars with mesiobuccal canals having curvatures between 10° and 20° and independent foramina were randomly distributed into 4 experimental groups (n = 15) according to WL and the instrumentation system used: RC0, Reciproc and WL at the apical foramen; RC1, Reciproc and WL at 1 mm short of the apical foramen; WOG0, WaveOne Gold and WL at the apical foramen; and WOG1, WaveOne Gold and WL at 1 mm short of the apical foramen. The canals were irrigated with double-distilled water throughout the preparation. Each root was fit into an Eppendorf tube to collect the debris extruded through the foramen during instrumentation. After instrumentation, the roots were removed from the tubes, and the weight of the debris was obtained by subtracting the initial weight of the tubes from their final weight. The data were submitted to the analysis of variance parametric test complemented by the Tukey test.ResultsNo statistically significant difference was observed between the 4 experimental groups regarding the amount of debris extruded (P > .05).ConclusionsThe 2 reciprocating systems tested were associated with similar amounts of apically extruded debris, regardless of the working length used in the instrumentation.  相似文献

Introduction

The maximum removal of root canal filling material is essential for successful endodontic retreatment. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of 2 reciprocating systems (Reciproc [VDW, Munich, Germany] and WaveOne [Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland]) compared with a nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary system (ProTaper Universal Retreatment [Dentsply Maillefer]) in the removal of root canal filling material.

Methods

Sixty root canals of extracted human maxillary incisors were prepared using the NiTi ProTaper rotary system with the complementary use of a #40 K-type file and then obturated. The specimens were divided into 3 groups (n = 20) according to the system used for filling removal: group 1: instrument R25 of the Reciproc system, group 2: primary instrument of the WaveOne system, and group 3: NiTi rotary instruments of the ProTaper Universal Retreatment system. The teeth were cleaved longitudinally and photographed under a dental operating microscope with 5 × magnification. Images were transferred to a computer, and residual filling material was quantified using Image Tool software (University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX). Results were compared using 1-way analysis of variance (P < .05).

Results

All teeth examined had filling remnants within the canal. No statistically significant difference (P > .05) in residual filling material was observed among the groups, with 4.30% in group 1, 2.98% in group 2, and 3.14% in group 3.

Conclusions

The Reciproc and WaveOne reciprocating systems were as effective as the ProTaper Universal retreatment system for gutta-percha and sealer removal.  相似文献

IntroductionThis study compared the static and dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance of contemporary nickel-titanium instruments with different kinematic, metallurgic, and design features to establish whether the fatigue-reducing effect of the pecking motion differs among different nickel-titanium instruments.MethodsProTaper Gold (PTG), Hyflex EDM (EDM), Reciproc Blue (RPB), and WaveOne Gold (WOG) files were divided into 2 groups of 10 for the static and dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance tests. A stainless steel artificial canal with 1.5-mm inner diameter, 60° angulation, and 3-mm radius of curvature was used. In the dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance test, speeds were set at 100 and 200 mm/min for the descending and ascending motion, respectively. The number of cycles to fracture (NCF) was calculated, the fractured lengths were recorded, and fractographic analysis of the fractured surfaces was carried out by scanning electron microscopy. Data were analyzed statistically with the Kruskal-Wallis test with Bonferroni correction (alpha = 0.05).ResultsThe RPB and EDM showed significantly higher NCF in the static and dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance tests (P < .05). The dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance test showed significantly higher NCF than the static cyclic fatigue resistance test in the PTG and EDM (P < .05). There was no significant difference between the RPB and WOG (P > .05).ConclusionsIn the experimental condition where the ascending speed was higher than the descending speed, the dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance was significantly higher than the static cyclic fatigue resistance in continuous rotary instruments, but not in reciprocating instruments.  相似文献

AIM: To compare the shaping ability of ProTaper with Reamer with Alternating Cutting Edges (RaCe) instruments. Part 1 of this two-part report describes the efficacy of these two nickel-titanium instruments in simulated curved root canals. METHODOLOGY: Simulated canals with 28 degrees and 35 degrees curves in resin blocks were prepared with ProTaper and RaCe instruments using a crown-down preparation technique (n = 24 canals in each case). Pre- and postinstrumentation images were recorded, and assessment of canal shape was completed with a computer image analysis program. Material removal was measured at 20 measuring points, beginning 1 mm from the apex. Incidence of canal aberrations, preparation time, changes of working length and instrument failures were also recorded. The data were analysed statistically using the Mann-Whitney U-test or the chi-square test. RESULTS: On average, canals prepared with RaCe instruments remained better centred compared with those enlarged with ProTaper files. Three RaCe instruments and two ProTaper files fractured during preparation (P > 0.05). Between both the canal types, RaCe was significantly faster (P < 0.001) than ProTaper and maintained working length significantly better (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Both instruments prepared curved canals rapidly and were relatively safe. RaCe respected original canal curvature better than ProTaper, which tended to transport towards the outer aspect of the curve.  相似文献

IntroductionThe present study compared the effect of the number of pecking motions at the working length (WL) on the shaping ability of single-file systems in long oval-shaped curved root canals.MethodsSingle-rooted mandibular premolars with long oval-shaped curved canals (25°–35°) were prescanned using micro–computed tomographic imaging, anatomically paired, and randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 15): XP-endo Shaper (XPS; FKG Dentaire, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), Reciproc Blue (RB; VDW, Munich, Germany), and WaveOne Gold (WOG; Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland). After preparation to the WL, each specimen underwent 1, 2, 4, 10, or 20 pecking motions to the WL and was rescanned. Morphologic parameters were measured and analyzed using a 2-factor repeated measures analysis of variance and the Scheirer-Ray-Hare test.ResultsThe minor apical diameter and percentage increase in canal volume increased with the number of pecking motions, whereas the percentage of unprepared canal surface area decreased (P < .05). The mean minor diameters (in mm) at D0 varied between 0.29 and 0.35 after 4 pecking motions with the RB and WOG systems and between 0.35 and 0.36 after 10 pecking motions with the XPS system. No significant differences in canal transportation or centering ratio were observed among the groups at the levels of canal curvature and canal thirds (P > .05).ConclusionsIncreasing the number of pecking motions improves the cutting efficacy of single-file systems without adversely altering the anatomic characteristics of oval-shaped curved canals. No more than 4 pecking motions for the RB and WOG systems and 10 pecking motions for the XPS system appear to be acceptable for the shaping of these difficult to clean root canals.  相似文献

IntroductionThe present study addresses the influence of 5 different shaping file systems on apical debris extrusion (AED) using 2 different irrigation protocols.MethodsOne hundred fifty mandibular first permanent molars were divided into 2 groups and 10 subgroups. The mesial root canals were shaped using One Reci (MicroMega), WaveOne Gold Primary (Dentsply Sirona, York, PA), and ProTaper Next (Dentsply Sirona) using reciprocating motion and One Curve (MicroMega) and ProTaper Next using continuous rotation. The first group and the second one were respectively irrigated with 10 and 5 mL distilled water.ResultsWhen the same instrumentation technique was used, the G10 mL subgroups showed statistically lower AED than the G5 mL subgroups (P < .05). The One Reci and One Curve subgroups, in both groups, produced statistically lower AED than the remaining subgroups.ConclusionsThe cross section of the instrument could be the main parameter in determining the amount of AED. IntroductionThis study aimed to evaluate and compare canal transportation and centering ability of 4 different root canal preparation systems produced with thermal treatments by means of micro–computed tomographic imaging.MethodsEighty mesial canals of human extracted mandibular molars were selected based on similar morphologic parameters and were randomly assigned to 4 experimental groups (n = 20) according to the canal instrumentation technique: HyFlex CM (HCM [Coltène-Whaledent, Allstätten, Switzerland]), HyFlex EDM (HEDM [Coltène-Whaledent]), WaveOne Gold (WOG [Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland]), and OneCurve (OC [Micro-Mega, Besancon, France]). The specimens were scanned before and after root canal preparation using X-ray micro-computed tomographic imaging at a resolution of 19.9 μm. Apical transportation and centering ability were then analyzed at 3 different levels: 3 mm, 5 mm, and 7 mm from the apex, representing the apical, midroot, and coronal thirds of the root, respectively. One-way analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to statistically compare the groups. The significance level was set at 5%.ResultsHCM caused less canal transportation than WOG at the 3-mm level in both the buccal and lingual canals (P < .05). Also, HCM resulted in less canal transportation than WOG and OC at the 7-mm level regarding lingual canals. No statistically significant differences were recorded between the groups when the mean centering ratios were compared.ConclusionsThe 4 evaluated systems safely prepared root canals causing minimal canal transportation and producing relatively centered preparations. In terms of canal transportation, HCM performed better than WOG at the apical level and better than WOG and OC at the coronal level.  相似文献

Introduction

The aim of this study was to evaluate the amount of vertical force induced with WaveOne (WO; Dentsply Sirona, York, PA) and WaveOne Gold (WOG, Dentsply Sirona) systems during the canal shaping of extracted teeth.

Methods

Thirty canals in 15 maxillary premolars were divided into 2 groups: WO and WOG. The canals were gently shaped with WO/WOG Primary instruments according to the manufacturer's instructions. The vertical forces induced during canal shaping in the apical and coronal directions were recorded. The apically and coronally directed peak forces were used for analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test. The instrumentation time was analyzed using the Student t test. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software (Version 22.0; IBM, Armonk, NY) at a 5% significance level.

Results

The force increased with the successive instrument insertions within each group. The apically and coronally directed peak forces of the WO and WOG groups ranged from 2.89–11.58 N and from 1.53–2.92 N, respectively. In the 3 insertions, WO showed higher peak forces in both directions. For apically directed peak forces, WO had significantly higher peak forces in the first and third insertions than WOG (P < .01). For coronally directed peak forces, WO had significantly higher values in the first and second insertions (P < .05).

Conclusions

The WOG system had significantly lower apically and coronally directed peak force values compared with the WO system.  相似文献

Introduction

The aim of this study was to describe the canal shaping properties of ProTaper Next (PTN; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), ProTaper Universal (PTU; Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Johnson City, TN), and WaveOne (Dentsply Maillefer) nickel-titanium instruments in mandibular first molars by using micro–computed tomographic (micro-CT) scanning.

Methods

A total of 36 maxillary first molars with 2 separate mesial canals and 1 distal canal were selected and scanned preoperatively and postoperatively by using micro-CT scanning with a voxel size of 30 μm. Canals were prepared with PTU, PTN, and WaveOne systems under hypochlorite irrigation. The volume of the untreated canal; the volume of dentin removed after preparation; the amount of the uninstrumented area; and the transportation to the coronal, middle, and apical thirds of canals were measured. The preparation time and instrument failure were also recorded.

Results

Instrumentation of canals increased their volume and surface area. The distal canals had a significantly higher proportion of unprepared surfaces than mesial canals (P < .05). The PTN system produced less transportation than the WaveOne and PTU systems in the apical third of the mesial canals (P < .05). There was no significant difference on apical transportation in distal canals among the 3 instrument systems. Instrumentation with WaveOne was significantly faster than with the other 2 instruments (P < .05).

Conclusions

The PTN, PTU, and WaveOne instruments shaped root canals in mandibular first molars in vitro without significant shaping errors. The curved canals prepared using PTN had less apical transportation than the canals prepared using WaveOne and PTU.  相似文献

AIM: To determine the cleaning effectiveness and shaping ability of ProTaper and RaCe nickel-titanium rotary instruments during the preparation of curved root canals in extracted human teeth. METHODOLOGY: A total of 48 root canals of mandibular and maxillary molars with curvatures ranging between 25 degrees and 35 degrees were divided into two groups of 24 canals each. Based on radiographs taken prior to instrumentation with the initial instrument inserted into the canal, the groups were balanced with respect to the angle and the radius of canal curvature. Canals were prepared using a crown-down preparation technique. After each instrument, the root canals were flushed with a 2.5% NaOCl solution and at the end of instrumentation with NaCl. Using pre- and post-instrumentation radiographs, straightening of the canal curvatures was determined with a computer image analysis program. After splitting the roots longitudinally, the amount of debris and smear layer was quantified on the basis of a numerical evaluation scale, using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The data established for scoring the debris and the smear layer were separately recorded and analysed statistically using the Wilcoxon test. RESULTS: Two ProTaper and three RaCe instruments fractured; there was no significant difference between instrument types (P > 0.05). Completely clean root canals were never observed. For debris removal, RaCe files achieved significantly better results (P < 0.001) than ProTaper instruments. The results for remaining smear layer were similar and not significantly different (P > 0.05). RaCe instruments maintained the original canal curvature significantly better (P < 0.05) than ProTaper instruments. No significant differences were detected between the instruments (P > 0.05) for the time taken to prepare the canals. CONCLUSIONS: Under the conditions of this study, RaCe instruments resulted in relatively good cleaning and maintained the original curvature significantly better than ProTaper did.  相似文献

IntroductionSome improvements have been developed with new generations of nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments that led to their successful and extensive application in clinical practice. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the root canal preparations performed by using GT Series X and Twisted File systems produced by innovative manufacturing process with Revo-S, RaCe, Mtwo, and ProTaper Universal systems manufactured directly from conventional nitinol and with stainless steel K-Flexofile instruments.MethodsThe mesiobuccal root canals of 140 maxillary first permanent molars that had between 30°–40° curvature angle and 4- to 9-mm curvature radius of the root canal were used. After root canal preparations made by using GT Series X, Twisted File, Revo-S, RaCe, Mtwo, and ProTaper Universal NiTi rotary systems and stainless steel K-Flexofile instruments, transportation occurred in the root canal, and alteration of working length (WL) was assessed by using a modified double-digital radiographic technique. The data were compared by the post hoc Tukey honestly significant difference test.ResultsNiTi rotary systems caused less canal transportation and alteration of WL than K-Flexofile instruments (P < .05). There was no significant difference between NiTi rotary system groups at any levels (P > .05) except 2.5 mm from the WL. At this level ProTaper Universal system caused significant canal transportation (P < .05).ConclusionsGT Series X and Twisted File rotary systems produced with innovative process were concluded to shape the curved canals to result in minimal canal transportation, similar to Revo-S, RaCe, Mtwo, and ProTaper Universal rotary systems manufactured by traditional methods.  相似文献

This study compared the accumulated hard-tissue debris (AHTD) after preparation with WaveOne Gold (WOG) to XP-endo Shaper (XPS), without and with a supplementary step using XP-endo Finisher (XPF) using clinically applicable irrigation. Twenty-four mesial roots with two canals and single foramen were micro-CT-scanned and matched. Scans were also taken after preparation with WOG or XPS, and after XPF. Irrigation with 2.5% NaOCl (total: 17 ml per canal) and 17% EDTA (2.5 ml per canal) was performed using a 30ga Max-I-Probe needle placed up to the working length. Morphological parameters were calculated and compared within and among groups. XPF significantly reduced unprepared area within XPS and WOG groups, and AHTD within WOG (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences between WOG and XPS after preparation and after XPF (p > 0.05). In conclusion, WOG and XPS produced a similar volume of AHTD, but the supplementary step with XPF decreased the AHTD in the WOG group.  相似文献

Objectives

The objective of this study is to determine the potential for microcracks in the radicular dentin of first maxillary premolars using three different mechanized endodontic instrumentation systems.

Methods

Eighty extracted maxillary first premolars with two root canals and no externally visible microcracks were selected. Root canal instrumentation was performed with either the ProTaper file system, the WaveOne primary file, or the self-adjusting file (SAF). Teeth with intact roots served as controls. The roots were cut into segments and examined with an intensive, small-diameter light source that was applied diagonally to the entire periphery of the root slice under ×20 magnification; the presence of microcracks and fractures was recorded. Pearson’s chi-square method was used for statistical analysis, and significance was set at p < 0.05.

Results

Microcracks were present in 30 and 20 % of roots treated with the ProTaper and WaveOne systems, respectively, while no microcracks were present in the roots treated with the SAF (p = 0.008 and p = 0.035, respectively). Intact teeth presented with cracks in 5 % of the roots. The intensive, small-diameter light source revealed microcracks that could not be detected when using the microscope’s light alone.

Conclusions

Within the limitations of this study, it could be concluded that mechanized root canal instrumentation with the ProTaper and WaveOne systems in maxillary first premolars causes microcracks in the radicular dentin, while the use of the SAF file causes no such microcracks.

Clinical relevance

Rotary and reciprocating files with large tapers may cause microcracks in the radicular dentin of maxillary first premolars. Less aggressive methods should be considered for these teeth.

IntroductionThis study aimed to compare the torque generated by 4 different files in root canals with 4 different curvature angles.MethodsFour brands of nickel-titanium (NiTi) endodontic files were selected: WaveOne Primary (Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland), WaveOne Gold Primary (Dentsply Sirona), ProTaper Universal F2 (Dentsply Sirona), and ProTaper Next X2 (Dentsply Sirona). A tempered steel block containing artificial canals with 4 different canal curvatures (15°, 25°, 35°, and 45°) was constructed. Each file was used according to the manufacturer’s instructions in the dynamic model, with an added 15 axial up-and-down movements of 4 mm at the end of the canal. The generated torque was recorded, and the total and maximum torque values were measured. Two-way analysis of variance and the Duncan post hoc comparison test were performed at a significance level of 95%.ResultsA significant correlation between the curvature angle and the type of file system was observed (P < .05). As the degree of canal curvature increased, the generated total and maximum torque increased. At 15° and 25°, the NiTi files with reciprocating motion generated a higher total and maximum torque than files with continuous rotation. ProTaper Universal of conventional NiTi alloy showed the steepest increase in the generated total and maximum torque with the increasing curvature angle. Introduction

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the performance of 3 single-file systems: WaveOne Gold Primary (WOG; Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland), Hyflex EDM “one file” (EDM; Coltene/Whaledent, Alstatten, Switzerland), and XP Shaper (XP; FKG, La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland), for nonsurgical endodontic retreatment on mandibular anterior teeth in regard to the amount of remaining filling material inside the canal, debris extrusion, and operation time.

Methods

Sixty extracted standardized mandibular incisors presenting with a single oval canal were prepared to size 30.04 and obturated using warm vertical condensation. After 30 days (37°C, 100% humidity), teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 20) according to the file used for retreatment (WOG, EDM, or XP operated at 3000 rpm). During the retreatment procedures, preweighed vials were used to collect apically extruded debris, and the time required to remove the filling material was recorded in seconds. Cone-beam computed tomographic scans were taken before and after the retreatment to determine the amount of remaining filling material inside the root canal space. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, 1-way analysis of variance, and the Pearson test at a 5% significance level.

Results

There was a statistically significant difference among the groups regarding the instrumentation time (P < .05). XP was the fastest to remove gutta-percha from the canals (40.54 ± 28.03 seconds) followed by EDM (55.77 ± 19.76 seconds) and WOG (105.92 ± 53.92 seconds). The percentage of remaining filling was significantly greater for WOG (26.65% ± 14.63%) (P < .05). No difference was found between EDM (13.51% ± 9.53%) and XP (8.60% ± 7.28%). No difference was found regarding the amount of extruded debris among the 3 groups (P > .05).

Conclusions

XP was the most efficient in gutta-percha removal from the canals when operated at a higher speed (3000 rpm) followed by EDM and WOG.  相似文献

Introduction

The purpose of this study was to compare the shaping effects of Wave One (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) and full-sequence ProTaper nickel-titanium (NiTi) files (Dentsply Maillefer) used in reciprocating and conventional movements in a simulated canal.

Methods

Seventy-five S-shaped canals in resin blocks were randomly allocated to 3 groups (n = 25): WaveOne (group 1), full sequence of ProTaper Universal files in conventional movements (group 2), and full sequence of ProTaper Universal files in reciprocating movements (group 3). Preoperative and postoperative photographs of the simulated canals were taken under standardized conditions, after which they were accurately superimposed. Two methods were adopted to evaluate the shaping ability of the 3 approaches: measuring the differences in apical and coronal curvature modifications and measuring the amount of resin removed for both curvatures on the right and left sides of the simulated canals. Differences in canal curvature modifications and in the amount of resin removed were analyzed using 1-way analysis of variance (P < .0001) followed by a Tukey-Kramer multiple comparison post hoc test and mixed-effects linear model (P < .05), respectively.

Methods

Group 3 maintained better coronal and apical canal curvature and less straightening of the simulated canals with respect to groups 1 and 2.

Conclusions

When preparing S-shaped canals, full-sequence ProTaper Universal NiTi files used in a reciprocating motion exhibited better shaping effects than full-sequence ProTaper Universal NiTi files used in a conventional motion and WaveOne.  相似文献
