STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Surface treatment is an essential step in bonding a ceramic to resin. Alumina ceramics are particularly difficult to prepare for adequate bonding to composite resin cements. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength between a densely sintered alumina ceramic and bovine dentin with 2 adhesive resin cements and a resin-modified glass ionomer cement using an extrusion shear strength test. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Alumina cones (n=30), 4 mm in height, 3 mm in diameter at the small end, and with an 8-degree taper, were fabricated. Without any treatment, the cones were cemented in a standardized cavity in 2.5-mm-thick bovine dentin discs using 1 of 3 cement systems: Panavia F, RelyX ARC, or RelyX Luting. The cements were manipulated following the manufacturers' instructions. After 24 hours of storage at 37 degrees C, an extrusion shear test was performed in a universal testing machine at 0.5 mm/min until bonding failure. The data were analyzed using 1-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD test (alpha=.05). All fractured specimens were examined at x25 magnification and classified by fracture mode. Representative specimens were selected for SEM observation. RESULTS: The highest strength values were obtained with Panavia F, and they were significantly higher (P<.05) than each of the other 2 cements, which were not significantly different from each other. Panavia F resulted in predominantly mixed failure and RelyX ARC and RelyX Vitremer showed primarily adhesive failure. CONCLUSIONS: An MDP-containing adhesive system (Panavia F) provides better extrusion bond strength to a high-density alumina ceramic than a Bis-GMA resin luting agent system (RelyX ARC) or a resin-modified glass ionomer cement system (RelyX Luting).  相似文献

This study evaluated the effects of mechanical cycling on resin push-out bond strength to root dentin, using two strategies for fiber post cementation. Forty bovine roots were embedded in acrylic resin after root canal preparation using a custom drill of the fiber post system. The fiber posts were cemented into root canals using two different strategies (N = 20): a conventional adhesive approach using a three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive system combined with a conventional resin cement (ScotchBond Multi Purpose Plus + RelyX ARC ), or a simplified adhesive approach using a self-adhesive resin cement (RelyX U100). The core was built up with composite resin and half of the specimens from each cementation strategy were submitted to mechanical cycling (45 degree angle; 37 degrees C; 88 N; 4 Hz; 700,000 cycles). Each specimen was cross-sectioned and the disk specimens were pushed-out. The means from every group (n = 10) were statistically analyzed using a two-way ANOVA and a Tukey test (P = 0.05). The cementation strategy affected the push-out results (P < 0.001), while mechanical cycling did not (P = 0.3716). The simplified approach (a self-adhesive resin cement) had better bond performance despite the conditioning. The self-adhesive resin cement appears to be a good option for post cementation. Further trials are needed to confirm these results.  相似文献

Purpose: To evaluate the microtensile bond strength and interfacial micromorphology of indirect composite restorations to dentin using three commercial resin cements after 24 hours and 30 days of water storage. Materials and Methods: The medium dentin of third human molars was exposed (N = 30, n = 10 per group). Three commercial resin cements were used to cement indirect resin composite restorations to dentin: the auto‐cured C&B Cement/All Bond 2, the dual‐cured RelyX ARC/Adper Single Bond 2, and the self‐adhesive dual‐cured RelyX Unicem. Teeth were sectioned after water storage at 37°C (24 hours and 30 days) to obtain beams with a bonded area of 0.8 mm2. The specimens were tested in a universal testing machine at a 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed. Scanning electron microscopic fractographic and interfacial micromorphology analyses were performed. Data were analyzed using two‐way ANOVA and Tukey′s test (α= 0.05). Results: Mean bond strength (MPa) after 24 hours: C&B Cement 19.5 ± 3.8, RelyX ARC 40.8 ± 9.4, RelyX Unicem 31.3 ± 7.4; after 30 days: C&B Cement 24.5 ± 5.1, RelyX ARC 44.2 ± 8.5, RelyX Unicem 28.3 ± 7.1. The mean bond strengths of both dual‐cure cements were significantly higher than that obtained with C&B Cement after 24 hours. A significant increase in the bond strength of C&B Cement was verified after 30 days, reaching values statistically equivalent to those produced by RelyX Unicem and RelyX ARC. The self‐adhesive cement preserved the same level of bond strength after 30 days. Fractographic analysis revealed a prevalence of cohesive fractures in the hybrid layer for C&B Cement, mixed (cohesive in the cement, hybrid layer, and adhesive) for RelyX ARC, and cohesive in the cement for RelyX Unicem. No distinguishable hybrid layer or resin tags were observed in the interaction of RelyX Unicem with dentin. Conclusions: The particular interaction of each cement with dentin results in specific bond strength and failure patterns that varied among groups in both evaluation times. Even though the self‐adhesive cement tested exhibited no authentic hybrid layer, it was able to promote reliable adhesion with the underlying dentin.  相似文献

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the effect of thermocycling on the microtensile bond strength of four adhesive luting agents to GN-I CAD-CAM ceramic. The hypothesis tested was that thermocycling did not affect bonding effectiveness, irrespective of the luting agents used. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ceramic specimens of two different sizes (6x8x3 mm; 13x8x4 nm) were fabricated from GN-I CAD-CAM ceramic blocks (GC) using a low-speed diamond saw. Two different sized porcelain discs were bonded with one of the four composite luting agents (Linkmax [LM], Panavia [PN], RelyX Unicem [UN] and Variolink II [VL]) according to the manufacturer's instructions. The specimens were stored for 24 hours in distilled water at 37 degrees C and subjected to 0; 10,000; 20,000 and 40,000 thermocycles prior to microTBS testing. Two-way analysis of variance was used to test the influence of luting cement, thermocycling and interaction between both (p < 0.05). The Tukey HSD test determined statistical differences in microTBS for each luting composite between the different thermocycling conditions (p < 0.05). The mode of failure was determined at a magnification of 50x using a stereomicroscope (Wild M5A). RESULTS: Two-way ANOVA revealed that microtensile bond strength was affected by the luting cement, thermocycling and a combination of both. No difference in bond strength between Linkmax, Panavia F and Variolink II was noticed after 24 hours of water storage (LM: 47.6 MPa; PN: 41 MPa; VL: 36 MPa). RelyX Unicem scored significantly lower than Linkmax and Panavia F (UN: 24.2 MPa). The influence of thermocycling on bond strength was different for the four luting cements. Using Variolink II, the bond strength remained stable after 40,000 thermocycles (43.6 MPa). Linkmax showed a significant decrease in bond strength after 10,000 (26 MPa) and 40,000 thermocycles (14.8 MPa). Panavia F and RelyX Unicem were the most negatively influenced, as all specimens failed prior to testing (pre-testing failures) when the specimens were thermocycled 10,000 and 20,000 times or longer, respectively. Regarding the failure mode, there was a correlation between bond strength and type of failure. Initially, a combination of adhesive and mixed adhesive-cohesive failures was noticed. The percentage of adhesive failures increased, together with a decrease in bond strength. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that there were significant differences among the four resin composite cements in terms of their bonding effectiveness to CAD-CAM ceramic after thermocycling. The varying degrees of bonding effectiveness of these adhesive luting agents highlight the need for material specifications.  相似文献

This trial used push-out testing to evaluate four different fiber post cementation strategies. Specimens of bovine mandibular teeth were randomly allocated into four groups according to cementation strategies (n = 10): ScotchBond MultiPurpose and RelyX ARC (Group 1); AdheSE and Multilink Automix (Group 2); phosphoric acid and RelyX U100 (Group 3); and RelyX U100 (Group 4). Four slices from each specimen (2.0 mm thick) were obtained for the push-out test. All slices were analyzed for failure mode after testing. A one-way ANOVA showed differences between the groups (P = 0.002). A Tukey test indicated that Group 1 had the highest bond strength values (13.96 ± 6.41 MPa). Groups 2 (6.58 ± 2.14 MPa), 3 (5.85 ± 2.57 MPa), and 4 (8.19 ± 2.28 MPa) had similar bond strengths, but all of them were lower than Group 1. A three-step total etching adhesive system, associated with a conventional resin cement, might be a good alternative for fiber post cementation.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a new self-etching primer/ adhesive used to enhance the shear strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to porcelain surfaces. Forty-five porcelain maxillary central incisor teeth were used in the study. The teeth were divided randomly into three groups: group I (control), the porcelain teeth were etched with 37% phosphoric acid followed by a sealant and the brackets were bonded with a composite adhesive; group II, the porcelain teeth were microetched and hydrofluoric acid and silane applied and metal brackets were then bonded with the composite adhesive; and group III, the porcelain teeth were etched with phosphoric acid and a self-etching primer/adhesive applied before bonding. Brackets precoated with the adhesive were used on all three groups of teeth. All teeth were stored for 24 hours at 37 degrees C before debonding. The results of the analysis of variance (F = 10.7) indicated that there was a significant difference (P = .001) between the three groups. The mean shear bond strengths of conventional bonding using a 37% phosphoric acid and sealant was 4.4 +/- 2.7 MPa, whereas that of microetching followed by the application of hydrofluoric acid and silane was 11.2 +/- 4.7 MPa, and for the new self-etching primer/adhesive it was 10.3 +/- 5.3 MPa. The last two groups had the highest bond strength values and were not significantly different from each other.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To measure 2-week postoperative sensitivity in Class II composite restorations placed with a self-etching adhesive (Clearfil SE Bond) or a total-etch adhesive (Prime&Bond NT) with or without a flowable composite as cervical increment. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Upon approval by the University of Guarulhos Committee on Human Subjects, 100 restorations were inserted in 46 patients who required Class II restorations in their molars and premolars. Enamel and dentin walls were conditioned with a self-etching primer (for Clearfil SE Bond) or etched with 34% phosphoric acid (for Prime&Bond NT). A 1- to 2-mm-thick increment of a flowable composite (Filtek Flow) was used in the proximal box in 50% of the restorations of each adhesive. Preparations were restored with a packable composite (Surefil). The restorations were evaluated preoperatively and 2 weeks postoperatively for sensitivity to cold, air, and masticatory forces using a visual analog scale. Marginal integrity of the accessible margins was also evaluated. Statistical analysis used a mixed linear model with subject as a random effect. RESULTS: Ninety-eight teeth from 44 subjects were observed at 2 weeks. The type of adhesive and use of flowable composite had no significant effects or interaction for any of the four outcomes of interest, ie, change from baseline to 2 weeks in sensitivity and response time for the cold or air stimulus. For the air stimulus, the overall average change from baseline was not significant for either sensitivity or response time. For the cold stimulus, the overall average change from baseline was significant for both sensitivity and response time. No case of sensitivity to masticatory forces was observed. CONCLUSION: No differences in postoperative sensitivity were observed between a self-etch adhesive and a total-etch adhesive at 2 weeks. The use of flowable composite did not decrease postoperative sensitivity.  相似文献

To evaluate the interactive influence of adhesive materials and surface treatments on bond strength of zirconium oxide ceramics, six types of adhesive resin cements (RelyX ARC (RA), Super-Bond C & B (SB), Linkmax (LM), Panavia Fluoro Cement (PF), Bistite II (BT), and Imperva Dual (ID)), three types of resin-reinforced glass ionomer cements (Xeno Cem Plus (XC), Vitremer Luting (VR), and Fuji Luting (FL)), as well as four types of surface treatments (# 600 polishing, sandblasting, silane, and Rocatec system) were used in this study. Results of this study indicated that all the tested adhesive materials treated with Rocatec system achieved the highest shear bond strength (31.9-67.1 MPa). In particular, the highest shear bond strength value of 67.1 MPa was found for Linkmax and Rocatec treatment combination, while the lowest shear bond strength value of 5.4 MPa was found for RelyX and # 600 polishing combination. Furthermore, results showed that Rocatec treatment was an effective way to prevent marginal leakage.  相似文献

This study evaluated the influence of the cementation system on the regional push-out bond strength and failure pattern of fiber posts to radicular dentin. The roots of 48 extracted human incisors were prepared and divided into 3 groups (n = 16), according to the cementation system: AdperScotchbond Multi-Purpose + resin cement RelyX ARC (SBMP+ARC); Adper SingleBond 2 + RelyX ARC (SB+ARC) and; RelyX U100 self-adhesive resin cement (U100). The posts were cemented as per manufacturer's instructions for each cementation system. After 1 week, the roots were sectioned transversely into 6 discs. Two discs were obtained from the cervical, middle and apical thirds and the push-out test was carried out. The failure pattern was examined on all debonded specimens. The data were analyzed by two-way repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey's test. When U100 was used, no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) was observed among the different root regions. Statistically higher push-out bond strength values were detected in the cervical third for SBMP+ARC and SB+ARC (p<0.05). The U100 showed significantly more mixed failures than SBMP+ARC in the apical third (p<0.05). In conclusion, the self-adhesive cement RelyX U100 was the only cement not sensitive to the root canal region.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of eugenol-containing endodontic sealers and luting strategy on the pull-out bond strength of glass fiber posts to dentin. Sixty-four bovine incisors were randomly assigned into two groups of 32 specimens each for obturation procedure with gutta-percha only, or with Pulp Canal Sealer EWT Subsequently, the roots were prepared for the fiber post Reforpost and all specimens of each endodontic sealing procedure were allocated to four groups (n = 8), according to the strategies for post cementation: A) Single Bond 2 and RelyX ARC; B) All Bond 2 and C&B cement; C) All Bond 2 and RelyX ARC; D) Single Bond 2 and C&B Cement. The posts were cemented immediately after the endodontic treatment. The pull-out test was performed at a cross-head speed of 0.5 mm/min in a universal testing machine (EMIC). Data (Kgf) were submitted to a two-way ANOVA and Tukey test (p < or = 0.05). The eugenol-based sealer did not influence the pull-out bond strength of fiber posts regardless of the luting strategy. RelyX ARC showed higher bond strength than C&B Cement when used with Single Bond 2 adhesive system, when the eugenol-based sealer was present. All Bond 2, when associated to all cements studied, promoted similar bond strength, regardless of the eugenol-containing endodontic sealer In conclusion, eugenol-containing sealer did not influence the pull-out bond strength values of the resin luting systems for glass fiber post cementation. The bond system and resin cement association from the same manufacturer had similar bond strength values for dentin.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strengths of three dual-cured resin luting cements (Linkmax HV, Panavia Fluoro Cement, and RelyX ARC) to glass-infiltrated alumina-reinforced ceramic material and the effect of four silane coupling agents (Clearfil Porcelain Bond, GC Ceramic Primer, Porcelain LinerM, and Tokuso Ceramic Primer) on the bond strength. The two type-shaped of In-Ceram alumina ceramic glass-infiltrated specimens were untreated or treated with one of the four ceramic primers and then cemented together with one of the three dual-cured resin luting cements. Half of the specimens were stored in water at 37 degrees C for 24 h and the other half thermocycled 20,000 times before shear bond strength testing. Surface treatment by all silane coupling agents improved the shear bond strength compared with non-treatment. The specimens treated with Clearfil Porcelain Bond showed significantly greater shear bond strength than any of the other three silane coupling agents regardless of resin luting cements and thermocycling except for the use of Panavia Fluoro Cement at 20,000 thermocycles. When the alumina-reinforced ceramic material was treated with any silane coupling agent except GC Ceramic Primer and cemented with Linkmax HV, no significant differences in bond strength were noted between after water storage and after 20,000 thermocycles. After 20,000 thermocycles, all specimens except for the combined use of Clearfil Porcelain Bond or GC Ceramic Primer and Linkmax HV and GC Ceramic Primer and Panavia Fluoro Cement showed adhesive failures at the ceramic-resin luting cement interface.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To determine the influence of various combinations of surface pretreatment and luting cement on flexural fatigue limits of two-unit CoCr cantilever resin-bonded fixed partial dentures. METHODS: Cyclic fatigue tests were performed at 1 Hz on an ACTA fatigue tester. The staircase test method was used on CoCr beams, simulating cantilever resin-bonded fixed partial dentures, using flat ground bovine teeth as substrate. Two series of tests have been executed: (1) 10(4) cycles, and (2) 10(5) cycles. Prior to cementation, the CoCr beams were subjected to either sandblasting or Rocatec or Silicoater treatments. Three commercially available resin luting cements were used. Fatigue tests were performed 72 hours after cementation and storage in 37 degrees C tap water. Each possible combination of cement and pretreatment (n = 20) was tested. RESULTS: One cement, UniFix, showed hardly any debondings with any of the three surface pretreatments. The other two cements, RelyX ARC and Panavia, both showed significantly better performance with Rocatec than when pretreated with sandblasting or Silicoater.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of eugenol-containing temporary cement on bonding of resin composite to dentin mediated by self-etching adhesives. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Flat dentin surfaces were produced by grinding of extracted human molars. The dentin surfaces were either used directly or after a one-week exposure to a zinc oxide-eugenol cement (IRM). A resin composite (Herculite XRV) was bonded to the dentin surfaces following treatment with 1 of 6 self-etching adhesives (AdheSE, Adper Prompt L-Pop, Clearfil SE Bond, iBond, OptiBond Solo Plus - Self-Etch Adhesive System, and Xeno III). An adhesive system containing 0.5 M EDTA as dentin conditioner (Gluma Classic) was included as negative control, and an etch-and-rinse adhesive system (OptiBond FL) was included as positive control. After storage in water at 37 degrees C for 1 week, the bonded specimens were fractured in shear (n = 8 in each group). RESULTS: Previous contact of dentin with zinc oxide-eugenol cement significantly decreased the bond strength mediated by the negative control and did not affect the bond strength mediated by the positive control. For the self-etching adhesives, no effect was found of previous contact with zinc oxide-eugenol cement. With and without previous contact with zinc oxide-eugenol cement, the etch-and-rinse adhesive system yielded a significantly higher bond strength than all other adhesive systems. CONCLUSION: Previous contact with zinc oxide-eugenol cement did not decrease the bond strength of resin composite to dentin mediated by self-etching adhesives. This finding suggests that eugenol-containing temporary cements may be safe to use in combination with self-etching adhesives.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To investigate the penetration (tags) of adhesive materials into enamel etched with phosphoric acid or treated with a self-etching adhesive, before application of a pit-and-fissure sealant. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The sample comprised six study groups with six specimens each. Before pit-and-fissure sealing with the materials Clinpro SealantTM (Groups I and II), Vitro Seal ALPHA (Groups III and IV) and Fuji II LC (Groups V and VI), the teeth in Groups I, III, and V were etched with 35% phosphoric acid for 30 seconds. Teeth in Groups II, IV, and VI received application of the self-etching adhesive Adper Prompt L-Pop. The treated teeth were sectioned buccolingually, ground to 100-microm thickness, decalcified, and analyzed by conventional light microscopy at 400x magnification. RESULTS: The teeth etched with phosphoric acid exhibited significantly greater penetration than specimens treated with self-etching adhesive. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: When compared with enamel treated with a self-etching adhesive, the penetration (tags) of adhesive materials into enamel was greater when applied on enamel etched with phosphoric acid.  相似文献

Fracture load of composite resin and feldspathic all-ceramic CAD/CAM crowns   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Various machinable materials are currently used with computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technologies for the chairside fabrication of restorations. However, properties of these new machinable materials, such as fracture load, wear, marginal deterioration, and color stability, should be investigated in vitro under replicated clinical conditions prior to time-consuming clinical studies. PURPOSE: This study investigated the effect of cyclic loading fatigue and different luting agents under wet conditions on the fracture load of CAD/CAM machined composite resin and all-ceramic crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety-six intact human maxillary premolars were prepared for composite resin and all-ceramic crowns with the following preparation criteria: 6-degree axial taper, 1.5-mm shoulder finish line placed 0.5 mm occlusal to the cemento-enamel junction, 1.5-mm axial reduction, 2-mm occlusal reduction, and 5-mm occluso-gingival height. Sixteen unprepared premolars served as controls. Forty-eight all-ceramic crowns (Vita Mark II) and 48 millable composite resin crowns (MZ100 Block) were fabricated using a CAD/CAM system (Cerec 3). Three luting agents-RelyX ARC (RX), GC Fuji CEM (FC), and zinc phosphate cement (ZP)-were used for cementation (n = 16). After 1-week storage in water, half of the specimens (n=8) in each subgroup were cyclically loaded and thermal cycled under wet conditions for 600,000 masticatory cycles and 3500 thermal cycles (58 degrees C/4 degrees C; dwell time, 60 seconds) in a masticatory simulator; the other half (n = 8) were fractured without cyclic loading. All specimens were loaded in a universal testing machine with a compressive load (N) applied along the long axis of the specimen at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min until fracture. Fracture loads (N) were recorded for each specimen. Three-way analysis of variance was used to detect the effects of the experimental factors (crown material, luting agent, and loading conditions) on the fracture load. The comparison with the unprepared natural teeth as controls was done by means of t tests (alpha=.05). RESULTS: Analysis of variance revealed a statistically significant influence of the luting agent and the cyclic loading (P < .001), whereas the crown material had no significant influence. Cyclic loading fatigue significantly decreased the mean fracture load of test groups independent of the 3 luting agents used: MZ100/ZP, 827.1 to 552.5 N; MZ100/FC, 914.7 to 706.2 N; MZ100/RX, 955.9 to 724.4 N; Vita/ZP, 772.3 to 571.5 N; Vita/FC, 923.6 to 721.1 N; and Vita/RX, 929.1 to 752.7 N. However, there was no significant difference in the mean fracture load of control specimens before and after cyclic loading (1140.1 N and 1066.2 N, respectively). Adhesive luting agents RelyX ARC and GC Fuji CEM increased fracture load significantly compared to zinc phosphate cement. CONCLUSIONS: Cyclic loading fatigue significantly reduced the fracture loads of composite resin and all-ceramic crowns, whereas adhesive cementation significantly increased the fracture loads.  相似文献

This study tested the impact of Gluma Desensitizer on the shear bond strength (SBS) of two conventional (RelyX ARC, Panavia 21) and two self-adhesive (RelyX Unicem, G-Cem) resin luting cements after water storage and thermocycling. Human third molars (N=880) were embedded in acrylic resin. The buccal dentin was exposed. Teeth were randomly divided into four main groups, and the following cements were adhered: 1) RelyX ARC, 2) Panavia 21, 3) RelyX Unicem, and 4) G-Cem. In half of the teeth in each group, dentin was treated with Gluma Desensitizer. In the conventional cement groups, the corresponding etchant and adhesive systems were applied. SBS of the cements was tested after 1 hour (initial); at 1, 4, 9, 16, and 25 days of water storage; and at 1, 4, 9, 16, and 25 days of thermocycling. SBS data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA); this was followed by the post hoc Scheffé test and a t-test. Overall, the highest mean SBS (MPa) was obtained by RelyX ARC (ranging from 14.6 ± 3.9 to 17.6 ± 5.2) and the lowest by Panavia 21 in combination with Gluma Desensitizer (ranging from 0.0 to 2.9 ± 1.0). All tested groups with and without desensitizer showed no significant decrease after aging conditions compared with baseline values (p>0.05). Only the Panavia 21/Gluma Desensitizer combination showed a significant decrease after 4 days of thermocyling compared with initial values and 1 day thermocycling. Self-adhesive cements with Gluma Desensitizer showed increased SBS after aging conditions (ranging from 7.4 ± 1.4 to 15.2 ± 3) compared with groups without desensitizer (ranging from 2.6 ± 1.2 to 8.8 ± 2.9). No cohesive failures in dentin were observed in any of the test groups. Although self-adhesive cements with and without desensitizer presented mainly adhesive failures after water storage (95.8%) and thermocyling (100%), conventional cement (RelyX ARC) showed mainly mixed failures (90.8% and 89.2%, after water storage and thermocyling, respectively). Application of the Gluma Desensitizer to dentin before cementation had a positive effect on the SBS of self-adhesive cements.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Micro-tensile bond strength (microTBS) evaluation and fractographic analysis were used to compare four resin cement systems (AC: All-Bond 2/Choice; RX: Single Bond/RelyX ARC; SB: Super-Bond C & B; and PF: Panavia F) in indirect composite/dentin adhesive joints. METHODS: Flat dentin surfaces were created on extracted human third molars. The resin cements were used according to the manufacturers' instructions for bonding silanized composite overlays to deep coronal dentin. 0.9x0.9 composite-dentin beams prepared from the luted specimens were stressed to failure in tension. Dentin sides of all fractured specimens were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to examine the failure modes. In group PF, morphologic features that could not be resolved at the SEM level were further validated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examination of the SEM specimens. RESULTS: Statistical analyses revealed significant difference (p<0.05) among microTBS and failure modes in the resin cement groups. The two groups (AC and RX) with highest microTBS failed predominantly along the composite overlay/cement interface. Cohesive failure in resin cement was primarily observed in group SB that exhibited intermediate microTBS values. In group PF with the lowest microTBS, failure occurred mostly along the dentin surface. Globular resin agglomerates seen by SEM on PF-treated dentin were distinguished from silica fillers by TEM. SIGNIFICANCE: The bond between the processed composite and the luting resin cement was the weak link in indirect composite restorations cemented with AC or RX. Super-Bond C&B exhibited intermediate tensile strength and Panavia F is less reliable when used in conjunction with a self-etching primer for bonding indirect restorations to dentin.  相似文献
