The Thompson dowel-rest system modified for chrome-cobalt removable partial denture frameworks.

This article has described the minimum laboratory and mouth procedures needed for fabrication of the Thompson dowel-rest removable partial denture using the modifications of (1) preconstructed dies for the dowel-rests, (2) a chrome-cobalt framework, and (3) a ball clasp retention device.     

An 18-month clinical evaluation of semiprecious and nonprecious alloy restorations

SEM studies indicate that the control alloy, Minigold, WLW, and Litecast metals presented similar results in relation to marginal fit when proper techniques are followed. Clinical evaluation based on the criteria of gingival irritation, patient sensitivity, and abrasion demonstrated no statistically significant differences between the casting alloys tested and the control. The control alloy had significantly fewer restorations with tarnish and corrosion than either WLW or Litecast. There was no significant difference between the control alloy and Minigold in terms of tarnish and corrosion.     

Designing swinglock partial dentures

The basic design principles of swinglock removable partial dentures including (1) even stress distribution, (2) control of rotational forces, (3) absence of D-E hinges, (4) rests, and (5) placement of the labial retentive fingers have been discussed. Special instructions to swinglock removable partial denture patients and recommendations for maintenance of the swinglock removable partial denture have been emphasized.     

Human blood pressure and pulse rate response to racemic epinephrine retraction cord.

1. The pulse rate of patients after application of racemic epinephrine-impregnated retraction cords depends more on the level of anxiety and stress than on the level of the epinephrine. 2. Blood pressure is elevated by placement of racemic epinephrine-impregnated retraction cords upon an exposed vascular bed or lacerated tissue. 3. Four percent racemic epinephrine-impregnated retraction cords cause less elevation of blood pressure than 8% racemic epinephrine cords. 4. Although the elevations in blood pressure from 8% cord occur within a narrow range, this range may be hazardous to cardiac patients. Therefore, 4% racemic epinephrine cord should be used. 5. A desirable amount of tissue retraction is produced by 4% racemic epinephrine cord. 6. Dry cords do not provide adequate retraction of tissue and are contraindicated for tissue-retraction purposes.     

Interim complete immediate dentures for a patient wearing removable partial dentures.

This article describes a technique used for fabricating temporary (interim) complete dentures for a patient who had been wearing removable partial dentures and whose remaining teeth were to be extracted. Rather than attempt to incorporate the existing removable partial dentures into the interim complete dentures, the dentist used the existing dentures to fabricate acrylic resin teeth for the interim prosthesis.     

Impression technique for complete maxillary immediate denture.

A technique for making complete maxillary immediate denture impressions has been described. With this procedure impressions of the edentulous area and remaining dentition can be made in sections and they can be removed from the mouth joined together.     

A method of stabilizing removable partial denture castings during clinical and laboratory procedures.

The use of a temporary incisal rest at the most anterior point of a removable partial denture framework is advocated. This rest provides stabilization during intraoral and laboratory procedures when the corrected master cast technique is used.     

The prevalence and magnitude of mandibular displacement in a survey population.

The prevalence and magnitude of mandibular displacement from RCP to IP in a principally adult sample was evaluated. The findings and their possible clinical significance were discussed.     

Sterilization of complete dentures with sodium hypochlorite

It is important to give the patient a denture that is clean and free from cross-contamination. This study was made to determine if Clorox could be used as a rapid, safe, and clinically effective way to sterilize complete dentures. The data obtained from this study indicate that a 5-minute immersion of dentures in undiluted Clorox accomplished sterilization against a variety of microorganisms, including a spore-forming bacteria and C. albicans.     

Inconspicuous retention for removable partial dentures.

Many dentists and patients believe that removable partial dentures have an unesthetic appearance when they replace anterior teeth because of the visible clasps. Two methods of obtaining inconspicuous retention have been described.
