Objectives: To describe the geographic distribution of the male/female ratio (MFR) of mortality from ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and cerebrovascular disease (CVD) in 1991-1995 in Spain, and to examine wether the differences between men and women in exposure to cardiovascular risk factors could explain such distribution.Methods: Mortality data come from National Vital Statistics. Age-adjusted mortality rates for the period 1991-1995 were calculated for IHD and CVD using the direct method, in population aged 40 to 79 years. Data on tobacco and alcohol consumption, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, obesity, sedentariness, and health services use come from the 1993 Spanish National Health Survey, and socioeconomic data from the 1991 Population Census. Data were analyzed by correlation and Poisson regression methods.Results: MFR of mortality from IHD and CVD are higher in the provinces of the north of Spain, and are correlated negatively with mortality from IHD and CVD. This negative association is stronger for mortality in women than in men. Among the risk factors examined, only MFR of alcohol consumption showed a significant (p < 0.05) association with MFR of mortality from IHD and CVD. MFR of alcohol consumption explains 23 and 14% of the provincial variation in MFR of mortality from IHD and CVD, respectively, and showed a U shaped relationship with MFR of mortality for both diseases.Conclusions: Provinces in the north of Spain, which register the lowest cardiovascular mortality, show the highest MFR of IHD and CVD mortality, because of the lower mortality in women than in men. As derived from the dose-response relationship between MFR of IHD and CVD mortality and the MFR of alcohol consumption, a higher alcohol consumption in men could contribute to a higher MFR of cardiovascular mortality in some Spanish provinces.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Despite increased cardiovascular disease risk factors, migrants to Australia from Mediterranean countries have lower mortality than do native-born Australians. Dietary patterns may contribute to this. OBJECTIVE: The objective was to investigate the relation between dietary patterns and mortality from cardiovascular (CVD) and ischemic heart disease (IHD) in an ethnically diverse population. DESIGN: This was a prospective cohort study (mean follow-up: 10.4 y) of 40 653 volunteers (23 980 women) aged 40-69 y in the Melbourne Collaborative Cohort Study (1990-1994); 24% of the subjects were Mediterranean born. RESULTS: Four dietary factors were identified from a food-frequency questionnaire with the use of principal components analysis. They explained 69% of intake variance and reflected frequent intakes of Mediterranean foods, vegetables, meat, and fresh fruit. The Mediterranean factor was inversely associated with CVD and IHD mortality in models adjusting for diabetes, waist-to-hip ratio, body mass index, and hypertension. For IHD, the hazard ratio (HR) for the highest compared with the lowest quartile of consumption was 0.59 (95% CI: 0.39, 0.89; P for trend = 0.03). Associations persisted in analyses excluding people with prior CVD (HR: 0.51; 95% CI: 0.30, 0.88; P for trend = 0.03). Vegetable and fresh fruit factors were inversely associated with CVD mortality but only among those without prior CVD. HRs (highest compared with lowest quartile) were 0.66 (95% CI: 0.48, 0.92; P for trend = 0.02) for vegetables and 0.69 (95% CI: 0.52, 0.93; P for trend = 0.04) for fresh fruit. The meat factor was not associated with CVD or IHD mortality. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that frequent consumption of traditional Mediterranean foods is associated with reduced cardiovascular mortality after controlling for important risk factors and country of birth.  相似文献

The increase in lung cancer (LC) mortality can produce a decrease in mortality from other causes, including ischemic heart disease (IHD). This problem (called the competing risks problem) has been addressed usually assuming independence between the competing causes of death. Our purpose is to show that assuming dependence of causes of death allows obtaining a better estimation of cumulative mortality. We use a clinical epidemiological example on the impact of AIDS in liver function failure in a cohort of drug users. The competing effect under dependence is 47% higher than under independence. This result is compared with a population-based example on LC and IHD mortalities in Spanish people in 1992. LC and IHD share tobacco smoking as a common risk factor, so independence cannot be assumed. Under the independence assumption, both life expectancy and number of deaths from IHD are underestimated. The difference is small compared to the model computed under dependence and it occurs mainly in the elderly (0.3% more deaths in people aged 70 and over).  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and compare adult mortality from diseases of the circulatory system (CDs), especially ischemic heart disease (IHD) and cerebrovascular disease (CVD), from 1980 through 2002 in the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, and S?o Paulo and their capital cities (respectively Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, and S?o Paulo), taking into account the impact of deaths due to ill-defined causes on mortality rates. METHOD: We estimated mortality rates (crude and adjusted by age and sex) from CDs overall and from IHD and CVD among individuals aged 20 years or older. These rates were weighted with a portion of the deaths from ill-defined or unknown causes, in the same proportion as deaths from CDs, IHD, and CVD in relation to deaths overall, excluding deaths from ill-defined causes. Using linear regression models, we also estimated the mean values of and annual differences in the weighted adjusted mortality rates. The reference population was that of the state of Rio de Janeiro in 2000. RESULTS: The annual decline in the weighted adjusted mortality rates from CDs ranged from -13.1 per 100,000 individuals in the state of Rio de Janeiro to -8.7 per 100,000 in the city of S?o Paulo. For IHD, the annual declines were greatest in the city of Rio de Janeiro (-5.0 per 100,000) and the state of Rio de Janeiro (-4.5 per 100,000), and smallest in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (-2.8 per 100,000) and the city of S?o Paulo (-2.7 per 100,000). With CVD, the range that was found extended from -6.5 per 100,000 in the state of Rio de Janeiro to -2.9 per 100,000 in the city of Porto Alegre. CONCLUSION: The decreases in weighted adjusted mortality rates from CDs, IHD, and CVD occurred after 1980, so it is unlikely that the declines resulted from controlling risk factors or from the practice of myocardial revascularization. The decreases might be related to a period of strong economic development preceding the declines, which translated into improved living conditions and reduced exposure to infections in the perinatal period and childhood.  相似文献

The association between nonfasting triglycerides and cardiovascular disease (CVD) has recently been actualized. The aim of the present study was to investigate nonfasting triglycerides as a predictor of CVD mortality in men and women. A total of 86,261 participants in the Norwegian Counties Study 1974–2007, initially aged 20–50 years and free of CVD were included. We estimated hazard ratios (HRs) for deaths from CVD, ischemic heart disease (IHD), stroke and all causes by level of nonfasting triglycerides. Mean follow-up was 27.0 years. A total of 9,528 men died (3,620 from CVD, 2,408 IHD, 543 stroke), and totally 5,267 women died (1,296 CVD, 626 IHD, 360 stroke). After adjustment for CVD risk factors other than HDL-cholesterol, the HRs (95% CI) per 1 mmol/l increase in nonfasting triglycerides were 1.16 (1.13–1.20), 1.20 (1.14–1.27), 1.26 (1.19–1.34) and 1.09 (0.96–1.23) for all cause mortality, CVD, IHD, and stroke mortality in women. Corresponding figures in men were 1.03 (1.01–1.04), 1.03 (1.00–1.05), 1.03 (1.00–1.06) and 0.99 (0.92–1.07). In a subsample where HDL-cholesterol was measured (n = 40,144), the association between CVD mortality and triglycerides observed in women disappeared after adjustment for HDL-cholesterol. In a model including the Framingham CHD risk score the effect of triglycerides disappeared in both men and women. In conclusion, nonfasting triglycerides were associated with increased risk of CVD death for both women and men. Adjustment for major cardiovascular risk factors, however, attenuated the effect. Nonfasting triglycerides added no predictive information on CVD mortality beyond the Framingham CHD risk score in men and women.  相似文献

For all four broad ethnic groups in Israel, mortality rates declined over the last decade for both ischemic heart disease (IHD) and cerebrovascular disease (CVD), the first and third most important causes of death in the country. The four broad ethnic groups consist of persons born in Israel, Asia, North Africa, and Europe. Mortality data also indicate a low male to female ratio in mortality from IHD, a definite female predominance in mortality from CVD, and high mortality rates for IHD and CVD in males and females born in North Africa. Morbidity data, especially incidence, are scarce for CVD in both sexes and IHD in females. The feasibility of preventive intervention needs to be tested under the specific conditions of Israel. Although a multiple risk factor trial in Jerusalem showed that such a program can be conducted in a primary care framework, it clearly still needs to be tested in clinics rather than in a model teaching institution. The best place for intervention would seem to be the primary health care system, which has almost complete access to the country's population. Kupat Holim (the Health Insurance Institute of the General Federation of Labour) is attempting systematically to identify and manage hypertension patients. To date, management of acute coronary disease has been emphasized in Israel. Although additional resources are needed for primary prevention services, other options are suggested for obtaining those services.  相似文献

Okinawa is located in a subtropical area and is well-known for low mortality due to ischemic heart disease (IH-D) and cerebrovascular disease (CVD). However, the factors that contribute to these low mortality rates remain unclear. We examined the seasonal variation in the mortality due to IHD and CVD among Okinawa and Osaka residents, aged 45 to 84 years, between 1992 and 1996. In addition, we studied if there was a relationship between the monthly mortality rate from IHD or CVD and the monthly mean daily air temperature in Naha City and Osaka City. Data on the monthly mean daily air temperature was obtained from the meteorological stations in Naha City and Osaka City. Our results showed that there were inverse correlations between the monthly mean daily temperature in a city and each of the monthly mortality from IHD in Okinawa (r=-0.794, p<0.01), the monthly mortality from CVD in Okinawa (r=-0.837, p<0.001), and the monthly mortality from CVD in Osaka (r=-0.954, p<0.001). In Osaka, the monthly mortality rate from IHD was at or near its minimum value when the mean daily temperature was approximately 25 degrees C (in September), and it increased in a linear fashion as the mean monthly temperature fell (r=-0.975, p<0.001). The difference between the monthly mortality from IHD or CVD among the Okinawa and the Osaka residents increased in the winter season in comparison with that in the other seasons, with the exception for IHD in July and in August. These findings indicate that the lower mortality from IHD and CVD in Okinawa is affected, at least in part, by Okinawa's warm winter.  相似文献

Information is limited on the co-existence and prognostic association of the ischemic electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure. Prospectively collected data sets from 28,118 examinations in the Copenhagen City Heart Study were analyzed for cardiac morbidity and mortality for a 5.9-year follow-up. The prognosis of the ECG, independently of blood pressure, was examined. The Cox proportional hazard model was employed to evaluate the prognostic implications of ECG findings and relative risk was adjusted for age and multivariately adjusted for traditional cardiovascular risk factors. End-points were (1) fatal and non-fatal ischemic heart disease (IHD) events and (2) cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. During a total follow-up period of 166,471 person years (mean: 5.9 years) 1.481 IHD events were recorded and 1.051 CVD deaths. The relative risk of an ischemic ECG was independent of the blood pressure level. The multivariately adjusted relative risk for fatal and non-fatal IHD for the ischemic ECG was 1.70 (95 CI: 1.39–2.09, p < 0.001) in women, and 1.96 (95 CI: 1.67–2.30, p < 0.001) in men, and for CVD mortality 1.71 (95 CI: 1.34–2.17, p < 0.001) in women and 2.08 (95 CI: 1.74–2.49, p < 0.001) in men. An ECG with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and ST-depression was the finding with the highest risk for future events. LVH by ECG voltage-only was associated with no statistically increased risk, except for men treated for arterial hypertension.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Although there is a clear positive association between obesity and the incidence and severity of cardiovascular disease, the association between underweight and cardiovascular disease is unclear. The objective of this study was to examine the relation between body mass index (BMI) and cardiovascular disease in Japan, where the proportion of the population that is underweight is relatively high. METHOD: A total of 43,916 Japanese adults (21,003 men and 22,913 women) aged 40 to 79 years who had no history of cancer, ischemic heart disease (IHD), or stroke participated in the baseline survey in 1994. Hazard ratios (HR) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for death due to total cardiovascular disease, all strokes, ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and IHD were calculated according to BMI by using Cox's proportional hazards regression models. The 22.5-24.9 kg/m(2) BMI category was used as the reference category in all analyses. RESULTS: There were U-shaped associations between BMI and total cardiovascular disease, all stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and IHD mortality, and a J-shaped association between BMI and ischemic stroke mortality. Participants with a BMI <18.5 kg/m(2) had a significantly increased risk of total cardiovascular disease, all stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and IHD mortality, and the multivariate HR (95% CI) was 1.62 (1.19-2.19), 1.50 (1.02-2.21), 2.11 (1.07-4.17), 1.83 (1.11-3.01), respectively. CONCLUSION: Underweight was substantially associated with hemorrhagic stroke and IHD mortality in Japan, while obesity was associated with increased risk of total cardiovascular disease mortality and mortality from individual cardiovascular diseases.  相似文献

High level of total serum calcium within the normal range has been associated with increased cardiovascular risk. We wanted to evaluate whether the physiological active ionised form of calcium also was a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Methods: A total of 974 participants from a health survey in 1981 in Copenhagen had ionised serum calcium and different cardiovascular risk factors measured. The participants were followed until 1999 in The National Hospital Patients Registry and The National Death Registry in Denmark regarding the diagnosis ischemic heart disease (IHD) and a broader definition of CVD. Persons with ionised serum calcium in the highest quintile were compared with persons in the lower four quintiles. Results: In a univariate analysis persons with ionised serum calcium in the highest quintile had increased risk of IHD (p = 0.001) and CVD (p = 0.02) compared to persons in the lower quintiles. The increased risk disappeared when gender and cardiovascular confounders were included in a Cox proportional hazards analysis (p = 0.20 for IHD and p = 0.50 for CVD, respectively). In a separate analysis of men and IHD the result remained insignificant (p = 0.07). Conclusions: Serum ionised calcium in the upper quintile in women and men together did not seem to be a risk factor in development of IHD and CVD, but a non-significant tendency towards increased risk of IHD was observed in men with ionised calcium in the upper quintile compared to men in the lower four quintiles.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The toxic oil syndrome (TOS) epidemic that occurred in Spain in the spring of 1981 caused approximately 20000 cases of a new illness. Overall mortality and mortality by cause in this cohort through 1994 are described for the first time in this report. METHODS: We contacted, via mail or telephone, almost every living member of the cohort and family members of those who were known to have died in order to identify all deaths from 1 May 1981 through 31 December 1994. Cause of death data were collected from death certificates and underlying causes of death were coded using the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision. RESULTS: We identified 1663 deaths between 1 May 1981 and 31 December 1994 among 19 754 TOS cohort members, for a crude mortality rate of 8.4%. Mortality was highest during 1981, with a standardized mortality ratio (SMR) of 4.92 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.39-5.50) compared with the Spanish population as a whole. The highest SMR, (20.41, 95% CI: 15.97-25.71) was seen among women aged 20-39 years during the period from 1 May 1981 through 31 December 1982. Women <40 years old, who were affected by TOS , were at greater risk for death in most time periods than their unaffected peers, while older women and men were not. Over the follow-up period, mortality of the cohort was less than expected when compared with mortality of the general Spanish population, or with mortality of the population of the 14 provinces where the epidemic occurred. We also found that, except for deaths attributed to external causes including TOS and deaths due to pulmonary hypertension, all causes of death were decreased in TOS patients compared to the Spanish population. The most frequent underlying causes of death were TOS, 350 (21.1%); circulatory disorders, 536 (32.3%); and malignancies, 310 (18.7%). CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that while on average people affected by toxic oil syndrome are not at greater risk for death over the 13-year study period than any of the comparison groups, women <40 years old were at greater risk of death.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: A retrospective cohort mortality study evaluated ischemic heart disease (IHD) among workers in the "rubber chemicals" manufacturing department of a Western New York plant. A previous study at the plant found elevated chest pain and angina among workers in this department. METHODS: Mortality experience of workers employed from 1946-1988 was followed through December 31, 1994. Mortality was compared to U.S. population rates and to local Niagara county rates by using the NIOSH life table analysis system. Poisson regression was used to examine patterns of IHD within the cohort. RESULTS: The standardized mortality ratio (SMR) for IHD among workers in the rubber chemicals department was 1.51 (U.S. rates) and 1.19 (Niagara county rates). Increased mortality from IHD in the rubber chemicals department was most pronounced at younger ages (< 50, SMR = 2.4); workers in a second chemical production department also had an elevated (but not statistically significant) SMR of 1.5 for IHD. CONCLUSIONS: IHD mortality among workers in the rubber chemicals department was elevated, particularly among those under 50 years of age. Potential occupational risk factors for IHD include the rotating shift pattern for employees assigned to two chemical production departments and chemical exposures present in the rubber chemicals department.  相似文献

Cardiovascular disease mortality in the Philippines was studied from the existing vital statistics for 1963-76. Death rates from rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease remained unchanged, those for cerebrovascular diseases decreased, whereas mortality rates of ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and hypertensive disease (HPN) increased enormously both in men and women. This increase in IHD and HPN mortality was seen in all age groups. The age-standardized IHD mortality rate in men rose from 33.3 in 1964 to 78.0 in 1976, and that of women from 15.4 to 34.5. The age-standardized HPN mortality rate in men rose from 21.0 in 1964 to 45.6 in 1976, and that of women from 15.6 to 25.5. The male to female ratios in the age-standardized death rates for IHD, HPN and also for all causes increased during this 12-year period. Age-standardized all causes mortality increased clearly in the male population but decreased in the female population of the Philippines. This excess mortality in males is mostly due to the increased cardiovascular disease death rate. This is a clear example of how chronic non-communicable diseases are becoming major health problems in countries where they previously have not been prevalent. Immediate preventive measures are needed in order to control cardiovascular diseases in these countries where disease rates are rapidly increasing.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Studies of truck drivers and cardiovascular disease (CVD), myocardial infarction, or ischemic heart disease (IHD) are limited, although studies of other professional drivers reported increased risk. METHODS: US mortality data from 1979 to 1990 for ages 15-90 were used to calculate proportional mortality ratios (PMRs) for heart disease and lung cancer for short and long haul truck drivers. Analysis was performed for Black (998 short haul and 13,241 long haul) truck drivers and White (4,929 short and 74,315 long haul) truck drivers separately. RESULTS: The highest significantly elevated proportionate heart disease (IHD, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and other forms of heart disease) and lung cancer mortality was found for White and Black male long haul truck drivers age 15-54. Mortality was not significantly elevated for short haul truck drivers of either race or gender, nor for truck drivers who died after age 65, except for lung cancer among White males. An indirect adjustment suggested that smoking could explain the excess IHD mortality, but no direct data for smoking or the other known risk factors for heart disease were available and occupational exposures were not measured. CONCLUSIONS: The highest significant excess proportionate mortality for lung cancer, IHD and AMI was found for long haul truck drivers who were under age 55 at death. A cohort or longitudinal study of heart disease among long haul truck drivers, that obtains data for occupational exposures as well as lifestyle risk factors, could help explain inconsistencies between the findings of this and previous studies.  相似文献

Class inequalities in cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality are well documented, but the impact of intergenerational class mobility on CVD mortality among women has not been studied thoroughly. We examined whether women's mobility trajectories might contribute to CVD mortality beyond what could be expected from their childhood and adult social class position. The Swedish Work and Mortality Data Base provided childhood (1960) and adulthood (1990) social indicators. Women born 1945–59 (N = 791?846) were followed up for CVD mortality 1990–2002 (2019 deaths) by means of logistic regression analysis. CVD mortality risks were estimated for 16 mobility trajectories. Gross and net impact of four childhood and four adult classes, based on occupation, were analysed for mortality in ischemic heart disease (IHD), stroke, other CVD, – and all CVD. Differences between the two most extreme trajectories were 10-fold, but the common trajectory of moving from manual to non-manual position was linked to only a slight excess mortality (OR = 1.26) compared to the equally common trajectory of maintaining a stable non-manual position (reference category). Moving into adult manual class resulted in an elevated CVD mortality whatever the childhood position (ORs varied between 1.42 and 2.24). After adjustment for adult class, childhood class had some effect, in particular there was a low risk of coming from a self-employed childhood class on all outcomes (all ORs around = 0.80). A woman's own education had a stronger influence on the mortality estimates than did household income. Social mobility trajectories among Swedish women are linked to their CVD mortality risk. Educational achievement seems to be a key factor for intergenerational continuity and discontinuity in class-related risk of CVD mortality among Swedish women. However, on mutual adjustment, adult class was much more closely related to CVD mortality than was class in childhood.  相似文献

Mortality rates for cardiovascular disease vary widely between countries, and epidemiological patterns (trends in incidence rates, prevalence of risk factors, availability of medical care) are heterogeneous even among industrialized nations. We studied mortality from cardiovascular disease in Italy from 1972 to 1981 and compared mortality to trends in risk factors during the same period. Age-adjusted mortality rates for acute ischaemic heart disease (IHD) have increased in Italy from 1972 to reach a peak in 1978 (180.53/100,000 in males, 51.55/100,000 in females), then declined between 1978 and 1981, by 7% in males and 5% in females. The decline was more evident in males and in the younger age groups. Deaths from chronic IHD reached a peak in 1973 in females and in 1975 in males, then decreased, respectively by 24.8% and 35.7% until 1981. Mortality for cerebrovascular disease declined from 1972 to 1981 by 16.2% in males and 21.5% in females. Data from national statistics and sample surveys in different areas of Italy show an increase in total calorie intake, in animal proteins, fats and dairy products and raised average serum cholesterol levels plus an increase in smoking prevalence but a possible decline in blood pressure levels. The roles of hypertension treatment and of access to specialized medical care are discussed as possible contributors to the new declining trend of IHD, and the need is stressed for preventive strategies in health promotion.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Although ecological observations suggest that the Japanese diet may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), the impact of a Japanese dietary pattern upon mortality due to CVD is unclear. METHODS: We prospectively assessed the association between dietary patterns among the Japanese and CVD mortality. Dietary information was collected from 40 547 Japanese men and women aged 40-79 years without a history of diabetes, stroke, myocardial infarction or cancer at the baseline in 1994. RESULTS: During 7 years of follow-up, 801 participants died of CVD. Factor analysis (principal component) based on a validated food frequency questionnaire identified three dietary patterns: (i) a Japanese dietary pattern highly correlated with soybean products, fish, seaweeds, vegetables, fruits and green tea, (ii) an 'animal food' dietary pattern and (iii) a high-dairy, high-fruit-and-vegetable, low-alcohol (DFA) dietary pattern. The Japanese dietary pattern was related to high sodium intake and high prevalence of hypertension. After adjustment for potential confounders, the Japanese dietary pattern score was associated with a lower risk of CVD mortality (hazard ratio of the highest quartile vs the lowest, 0.73; 95% confidence interval: 0.59-0.90; P for trend = 0.003). The 'animal food' dietary pattern was associated with an increased risk of CVD, but the DFA dietary pattern was not. CONCLUSION: The Japanese dietary pattern was associated with a decreased risk of CVD mortality, despite its relation to sodium intake and hypertension.  相似文献

It is assumed that differences in the mortality rates of occupational groups are explained by work-related factors, socioeconomic status, and health practices, etc. The present study focuses on the common factors contributing to differences in the mortality rates from all and major specific causes among Japanese male occupational groups. With respect to mortality rates, the following conditions were adopted as major specific causes of death: cerebrovascular disease (CVD), ischemic heart disease (IHD), stomach cancer (Stomach CA), lung cancer (Lung CA) and suicide. Occupations were classified into eight groups. Age-adjusted mortality rates due to each specific cause of death were calculated, using the age-specific population in 1985 as a standard, for every five years of census from 1965 until 1995. The number of significant correlation coefficients and their magnitude between mortality rates due to major specific causes, among the eight occupational groups, increased with advancing census year. Most PM2.5-associated mortality studies are not conducted in rural areas where mortality rates may differ when population characteristics, health care access, and PM2.5 composition differ. PM2.5-associated mortality was investigated in the elderly residing in rural–urban zip codes. Exposure (2000–2006) was estimated using different models and Poisson regression was performed using 2006 mortality data. PM2.5 models estimated comparable exposures, although subtle differences were observed in rate ratios (RR) within areas by health outcomes. Cardiovascular disease (CVD), ischemic heart disease (IHD), and cardiopulmonary disease (CPD), mortality was significantly associated with rural, urban, and statewide chronic PM2.5 exposures. We observed larger effect sizes in RRs for CVD, CPD, and all-cause (AC) with similar sizes for IHD mortality in rural areas compared to urban areas. PM2.5 was significantly associated with AC mortality in rural areas and statewide; however, in urban areas, only the most restrictive exposure model showed an association. Given the results seen, future mortality studies should consider adjusting for differences with rural–urban variables.  相似文献
