Fatigue is often experienced after liver transplantation. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess the severity of fatigue in liver transplant recipients. In addition, the nature of fatigue and factors that may be associated with severity of fatigue after liver transplantation were explored. Ninety-six patients up to 15 years after liver transplantation were included. Severity of fatigue and nature of fatigue were assessed with the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory, respectively. Furthermore, age, gender, indication for transplantation, time since transplantation, immunosuppressive medication, self-experienced disability, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) were assessed as potential associated factors. Sixty-six percent of all patients was fatigued (FSS > or = 4.0) and 44% of all patients was severely fatigued (FSS > or = 5.1). Patients experienced physical fatigue and had reduced activity rather than mental fatigue and reduced motivation. Age, gender, self-experienced disabilities, and HRQoL were correlated with severity of fatigue. Results of the study indicate that fatigue is a major problem in patients after liver transplantation and no indications were found that complaints of fatigue improve over time. Liver transplant recipients experience physical fatigue and reduced activity rather than mental fatigue and reduced motivation. These findings have implications for the development of interventions needed to rehabilitate persons after liver transplantation.  相似文献

目的调查肝移植受者生存质量现状,并探讨其影响因素。 方法选取2017年12月在中山大学附属第一医院器官移植科复查的115例肝移植受者,使用一般资料问卷和简明健康调查(SF-36)量表进行调查。采用独立样本t检验比较肝移植组与常模对照组SF-36量表各维度得分,采用单因素方差分析比较不同学历等人口社会学及临床相关资料对生存质量的影响,组间两两比较采用LSD法。计数资料采用频数和构成比表示。P<0.05为差异有统计学差异。 结果共发放问卷115份,回收有效问卷108份,有效回收率93.9%。108例肝移植受者生存质量总分平均为(592±138)分,其中PCS得分平均为(286±71)分,MCS得分平均为(306±75)分;生理机能维度得分最高[(86±14)分],生理职能维度得分最低[(55±42)分]。肝移植受者生理机能、生理职能、躯体疼痛、社会功能和情感职能5个维度得分均低于常模,差异均有统计学意义(t=3.78、6.05、5.54、1.61和0.36,P均<0.01)。以SF-36量表中PCS和MCS作为因变量,分析肝移植受者人口社会学及临床相关资料对生存质量的影响。结果显示,性别、文化程度、月收入、术后生存时间以及术后有无再就业是肝移植受者生存质量的影响因素(P均<0.05)。 结论肝移植受者生存质量还有待提高。医护人员应多关注女性、文化程度较低、月收入较低、术后生存时间<1年、术后未再就业的肝移植受者,提高其生存质量。  相似文献

Most transplant programs require abstinence of at least 6 months from alcohol and illicit drugs before orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). However, there are no published data regarding OLT outcomes in patients who are currently on methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) as part of the treatment of their heroin addiction at the time of OLT. The objective of this study is to evaluate our experience regarding the outcome of OLT in patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) who were on MMT at the time of OLT. Between March 1993 and May 1999, a total of 185 patients with ESLD underwent OLT at our center. Five transplant recipients (2.7%) had a history of heroin abuse and had undergone drug and alcohol rehabilitation, but could not be weaned off methadone. Pre-OLT status, drug history, perioperative course, compliance with medical therapy, post-OLT follow-up, and patient and allograft survival were analyzed in detail in these patients. All patients on MMT underwent uneventful OLTs. Their compliance with medications and follow-up was excellent. One patient was weaned completely off methadone after OLT. Post-OLT mean hospital stay in this group was 43 ± 25 days. Although the number of patients was small, long-term outcome of liver transplant recipients on MMT appears similar to that of patients not on MMT who underwent OLT during this period. Our results suggest cirrhotic patients on MMT should be considered for OLT if they meet the same psychosocial requirements as patients with alcohol abuse. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of radiological pulmonary edema in elective liver transplant recipients and its relationship to perioperative factors and postoperative course. We reviewed 102 chest radiographs from 34 patients who had undergone orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Films were assessed by 2 trained radiologists for evidence of pulmonary edema using a standardized system. Clinical and outcome data from the 34 patients were also recorded. There was a high incidence (47%) of postoperative radiological pulmonary edema that was associated with deterioration in gaseous exchange, elevated pulmonary artery pressure, and increased duration of ventilator dependence and intensive care stay. Eighteen percent of the patients developed edema immediately after surgery, which was associated with greater pulmonary artery pressure and transfusion requirements during surgery. An additional 29% developed edema during the next 16 to 20 hours, but there was no association with fluid replacement. We conclude that pulmonary edema is common after OLT and will influence postoperative recovery in a substantial proportion of transplant recipients. Excess perioperative fluid replacement is unlikely to be the sole mechanism of edema in these patients. (Liver Transpl 2000;6:466-470.)  相似文献

This cross-sectional study investigated potential factors impacting quality of life in 125 recipients after living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT). Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) was measured by using the Chinese version of Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36 (SF-36), and psychologic symptoms by using the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R). Clinical and demographic data were collected from the records of the Chinese Liver Transplant Registry and via questionnaire. A total of 102 recipients (81.6%) completed the questionnaires. All SF-36 domain scores (except the mental health score) were lower in the study than in the general population of Sichuan. The mental quality of life was significantly lower in female than in male subjects (P = .000). Regarding the role-physical (P = .016), social functioning (P = .000), and role-emotional (P = .004) domains, recipients >1 year after transplantation scored higher than those <1 year. Bodily pain scores were lower in recipients with prior acute liver failure than those with hepatic carcinoma or hepatic cirrhosis (P = .032). Social functioning was poorer in recipients with than in those without complications (P = .039). Mental component summary scale (MCS) scores and some of physical component summary scale (PCS) significantly correlated with symptom dimension scores of the SCL-90-R (P < .05). In conclusion, gender, time since transplant, etiology of disease, complications, occupation, and some psychologic symptoms were possible factors influencing postoperative HRQoL of LDLT recipients.  相似文献

This study was conducted to examine factors affecting health insurance and employment status in long-term liver transplant (OLT) recipients. All adult primary OLT recipients surviving at least 1 year were surveyed using existing questionnaires. Out of 217 eligible recipients, 186 (86%) responded. The median age of respondents was 55 years with a median survival after OLT of 3.4 years. The majority (98%) of respondents had health insurance coverage. Thirty-four (18%) reported having lost and/or having been denied health insurance since OLT, and 63 (34%) switched health insurance since OLT. Of the 179 that reported employment status, 98 (55%) were employed, including homemakers and students, while 39 (22%) were retired and 42 (24%) unemployed. The majority (76%) of those unemployed cited poor health as the reason for unemployment, followed by 5 (12%) who feared loss of disability or Medicaid benefits. Fourteen reported to have been denied or terminated from employment because of their transplant. In the regression analysis, employment prior to transplantation (odds ratio (OR)=5.1), age less than 57 (OR=5.1), physical function score>52.4 (OR=3.6) and general health score>33.3 (OR=7.6) were significantly associated with employment. These data may help identify high-risk pre-OLT patients for intervention measures such as work rehabilitation.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: With continuously rising survival rates following renal transplantation, health-related quality of life (HQOL) of long-term transplant survivors becomes increasingly important. METHODS: Recipients more than 15 years after successful renal transplantation were studied retrospectively. HQOL in 139 long-term transplant recipients was assessed using the SF-36 and the disease-specific kidney transplant questionnaire (KTQ-25). RESULTS: Long-term transplant recipients revealed satisfactory HQOL that was comparable to the healthy population in four of eight SF-36 categories (role physical, social functioning, role emotional and mental health). Other SF-36 categories such as physical functioning, physical pain, general health, and vitality were reduced. Among the study population, disease-specific HQOL was comparable or even improved to that of patients awaiting transplantation. In contrast to retired or unemployed patients, employed recipients revealed a highly significant improved HQOL in numerous SF-36 categories such as physical functioning (P<0.001), physical pain (P<0.001), general health (P<0.001), vitality (P<0.001), social functioning (P<0.005), and mental health (P<0.001), as well as for the KTQ-dimensions physical symptoms (P<0.001), fatigue (P>0.001), uncertainty/fear (P<0.01), and emotions (P<0.05). Other factors positively correlating with improved HQOL in certain dimensions were living situation, systolic blood pressure, and recipient age. CONCLUSIONS: More than 15 years after renal transplantation, recipients present satisfactory HQOL comparable to the general healthy population or at least to pretransplant patients. Vocational rehabilitation following renal transplantation is of highest importance among long-term survivors and is associated with improved HQOL.  相似文献

CONTEXT: Family members of liver transplant patients continue caregiving activities for a lengthy period after transplantation. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effect of stress-related factors on psychological distress and perceived health of family caregivers of liver transplant recipients. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-four caregivers of liver transplant recipients treated at a liver unit serving the northern part of Israel. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Pearlin's caregiving stress questionnaire was administered to assess the subscales of patients' symptoms as perceived by caregivers, caregiving activities, perceived overload, relational deprivation, personal gain, and social support; also, a depression questionnaire and a perceived caregivers' health questionnaire were administered to participants. RESULTS: Caregivers experienced considerable caregiving overload. Women reported performing more caregiving activities, higher perceived overload, and higher level of depression than men. Increasing passage of time since transplantation, higher perceived overload, higher sense of relational deprivation, and lower sense of personal gain were significantly associated with higher level of depression and worse perceived health. Perceived support and level of depression were not significantly associated with perceived health. CONCLUSIONS: Caregiving stress endures after transplantation. Professional intervention is needed to improve caregivers' quality of life and, consequently, that of transplant recipients as well.  相似文献

Purpose of this study was to assess whether living (LD) and deceased donor (DD) kidney transplant recipients differ in health‐related quality of life (HRQoL), fatigue and societal participation, depending on time since transplantation and after adjustment for clinical and demographic variables. A questionnaire study was performed among 309 LD and 226 DD recipients (response rate 74% and 61%) transplanted between 1997 and 2009. After adjustment for age, sex, and education, LD recipients transplanted less than or equal to five yr ago experienced better HRQoL than DD recipients on the domains' role limitations due to physical problems, general health perception, and on the physical component summary score (all p < 0.05) and a better societal participation (all subscales, p < 0.05). No differences were found in the mental health domains. The LD recipients also had better renal clearance than DD recipients (62.1 vs. 55.9 mL/min, p = 0.01). After additional adjustment for renal clearance, the differences in HRQoL and societal participation between LD and DD recipients remained. No differences were found in recipients transplanted more than five yr ago. We conclude that LD recipients on average have better HRQoL and societal participation than DD recipients, in the first years after transplantation.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Our goal was to statistically correlate adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) in the pediatric posttransplant population with potential risk factors and to monitor the progression of ATH over time. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Participants were evaluated for ATH through a standardized 65-point questionnaire and an 8-point physical examination. They were also evaluated for current age, age at time of transplantation, type of organ transplant, gender, tacrolimus use, history of transplant rejection, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) serology, and cytomegalovirus (CMV) serology. We evaluated 243 pediatric solid organ transplant recipients, with 116 patients undergoing repeat evaluation. RESULTS: A statistically significant negative correlation was noted between age at time of transplantation and both questionnaire scores (P = 0.0075) and examination scores (P = 0.013). A significant negative correlation was also seen between age at time of evaluation and questionnaire score (P = 0.028) but not examination score (P = 0.49). Recipient EBV seronegativity significantly increased questionnaire score (P = 0.05). Liver transplant recipients also had a significantly higher questionnaire score than did kidney transplant recipients (P = 0.0048). Gender, CMV recipient status, and tacrolimus (immunosuppressant) use did not significantly impact questionnaire or examination scores. Repeat evaluation of 116 patients after a 2- to 9-month interval did not demonstrate any significant increases in questionnaire scores. A statistically significant drop in examination scores was noted (P = 0.003). Conclusions and Significance: These findings support previous reports in the literature that correlate EBV seronegativity, younger age at transplant, and liver versus kidney transplantation with increased incidence of PTLD.  相似文献

Employment after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) indicates recipients' physical/psychosocial adjustment. Our aim was to determine clinical, socioeconomic and health-related quality of life parameters influencing employment after OLT. Questionnaire on demographics, medical conditions, alcohol and drug use before/after OLT, and a validated 12-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) were mailed to 126 adult OLT patients. Stepwise logistic regression was conducted to identify best predictors of post-OLT employment. Among non-retirees, 49% were employed after OLT. The predictors of employment were: employment status, income, disability status before OLT and Model of End Stage Liver Disease score. These variables had prediction rate of 82%. Individuals working during the five yr prior to OLT were likely to return to work (p<0.0001), particularly those who held a job for >6 months prior to OLT (p<0.0001), income>$80 000 before OLT compared with <$30 000 (p=0.036). Patients receiving Social Security Insurance (SSI) payment for >or=6 months prior to OLT, were less likely to work (p=0.0005). Severity/duration of liver dysfunction prior to OLT did not correlate with employment. Sense of physical health was poorer in those employed after OLT than in unemployed (p=0.0003). Socioeconomic factors were the most important predictors of post-OLT employment.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life (QOL) and the physical activity of liver transplant recipients compared with the general population. The case-controlled pilot study was accomplished through the administration of 2 questionnaires: 36-item Medical Outcomes Study, Short-Form General Health Survey (SF-36) for quality of life (10 scores) and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) to estimate the physical activity (metabolic equivalent score). Fifty-four patients who underwent liver transplantation using the piggyback technique and 108 controls from the general population at the orthopedic ambulatories were enrolled between 2002 and 2009. Participants had a mean age of 55 years (range, 41-73). The multivariate analysis showed significant differences for some scales of the SF-36: liver transplant recipients displayed lower values for “Mental Composite Score” (P = .043), “physical activity” (P = .001), “role limitations due to physical health” (P = .006), “role limitations due to the emotional state” (P = .006), and “mental health” (P = .010). The metabolic equivalent positively associated with all examined SF-36 scales. The present study focused on the QOL and physical activity of liver transplant recipients, demonstrating that transplant recipients scored lower than the general population. Liver transplantation may allow full recovery of health status, but the physical and social problems persist in some patients. Interventions aimed at improving rehabilitation programs, regular psychosocial support, and follow-up in all phases of treatment may give patients a more satisfying lifestyle after transplantation.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The effect of donor fatty liver on graft survival is still uncertain. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of steatosis on the outcomes of OLT among our recipients. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we evaluated the effect of donor liver steatosis on postoperative liver function and prognosis. Data obtained from liver transplantation data registry of our organ transplant center. Liver biopsies taken before transplantation were reviewed by two pathologists. Pathology reports were divided into four groups: normal pathology; mild fatty change (10%-30%); moderate (30%-60%); and severe steatosis (>60%). Livers with severe steatosis were excluded from transplantation. Factors determining transplantation outcome, such as early mortality, duration of intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital stay, clinical rejection episodes, and graft surgical complications, were compared between subjects who received donor liver, with various degrees of steatosis. RESULTS: Three-month survival rates in recipients without donor liver fatty change, subjects with mild fatty change (10%-30%) and those with moderate (30%-60%) steatosis were 68%, 72%, and 76%, respectively, which were not significantly different (P>.05). Furthermore, short-term (hospital) mortality (20%, 14.3%, and 21.2%), hospital stay (30.89, 29.93, and 23.62 days), and length of ICU admission (5.06, 5.89, and 4.39 days) were not significantly different. In addition, Child score of recipients, pre- and postoperative liver function enzyme changes were similar. CONCLUSION: Mild-to-moderate (up to 60%) liver fatty change was not found to be associated with a worse prognosis in OLT.  相似文献

Liver transplantation is now an accepted and successful therapy for both acute and cronic liver diseases. Whilst the study of health related quality of life (HRQoL) post-transplantation for chronic liver disease (CLD) has been well documented, there is little data measuring HRQoL following liver transplantation for acute liver failure (ALF), despite super urgent transplantation constituting 16.6% of al United Kingdom liver transplantation. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to document the HRQoL in patients who have received an emergency liver transplant for ALF. Data collection employed between method triangulation, using the Short Form 36 quality of life health questionnaire for both ALF (n=47) and CLD (n=49), and six semi-structured interviews. Only the qualitative element of the study is reported here. Phenomenological analysis of the semi-structured interviews identified four themes relating to the physical changes encountered (inactivity), physical recovery (health transition); changes made to the transplant recipients life styles (modification); and outlook. The majority of transplanted ALF transplant recipients' stated that they have a good quality of life, which was often comparable to their pretransplantation lifestyle. However, the initial recovery process was often difficult and was related to the physical changes instigated from their multi-organ failure and intensive care stay, which can present numerous physical and emotional challenges.  相似文献

Postoperative ventilation and admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) is the standard of care in liver transplantation and comprises a significant proportion of transplantation costs. Because immediate postoperative extubation has been reported previously in a selected group of liver transplant recipients, we questioned whether this protocol could be extended to a larger group of patients. We also sought to determine the proportion of patients extubated immediately after surgery that could be transferred to the surgical ward without intervening ICU care. Of 147 patients studied in a prospective trial of sequential liver transplant recipients (who were not second-transplant recipients, United Network for Organ Sharing status 1, living donor transplant recipients, or dead before the end of surgery), 13 patients did not meet postsurgical criteria for early extubation and 111 patients were successfully extubated. Eighty-three extubated patients were transferred to the surgical ward after a routine admission to the postoperative care unit. Only 3 patients who were transferred to the surgical ward experienced complications that required a greater intensity of nursing care. A learning curve detected during the 3-year study period showed that attempts to extubate increased from 73% to 96% and triage to the surgical ward increased from 52% to 82% without compromising patient safety. The use of this protocol in our institution resulted in a 1-day reduction in ICU use in 75.5% of study subjects. We therefore conclude that the majority of liver transplant recipients can be extubated safely and admitted to the surgical ward after liver transplantation surgery, thus decreasing the cost associated with ICU care. Acute renal failure (ARF) is common immediately after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), whereas the incidences of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease increase with time. Introduction of the Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD) score-intended to prioritize patients with more-severe pretransplantation liver disease in general, and worse pretransplantation renal function in particular-for the allocation of liver grafts led to concerns about compromised patient and allograft survival and increased incidence of postoperative ARF and CKD. Nonetheless, it has been suggested that early OLT of candidates with baseline renal dysfunction improves post-transplantation renal outcomes. For OLT candidates with mild to moderate chronic renal impairment or recent-onset ARF, the decision of whether to perform OLT alone or combined liver-kidney transplantation (CLKT) can be challenging because no single factor has been shown to be predictive of the degree of renal function recovery or CKD progression following successful OLT. In this article, we provide an overview of the literature on renal function outcomes following OLT and CLKT, share our perspectives on the potential predictors of renal dysfunction or nonrecovery of renal function after OLT, and present United Network for Organ Sharing data on patient and allograft outcomes in CLKT recipients in the pre-MELD and post-MELD eras. Mechanisms that might underlie immunological protection of kidney grafts by liver allografts are also discussed.  相似文献

Correct assessment and follow-up of kidney function is essential in liver transplant recipients. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) represents the functional capacity of the kidney. The GFR is generally determined on the basis of creatinine clearance using several methods. It has been suggested that cystatin C be used rather than GFR. Production of cystatin C is not dependent on the same factors as creatinine. It is filtered and completely metabolized in the glomeruli, and is not secreted by the kidney tubules. The objective of this study was to determine a preoperative cutoff value for cystatin C based on kidney function estimated after liver transplantation. At prefixed times before and after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), serum cystatin C and creatinine concentrations were measured, and GFR was calculated using the Cockroft-Gault equation. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to GFR on postoperative days 1 to 5. Group 1 (healthy recipients) included patients with post-OLT GFR greater than 70 mL/min; and group 2 (kidney-impaired recipients), post-OLT GFR less than 70 mL/min. Group 2 demonstrated greater risk of postoperative complications, abnormal postoperative creatinine concentrations and GFR values, and worse patient and graft survival. Based on the preoperative cystatin C concentration, postoperative kidney function can be assessed. The cutoff value for preoperative cystatin was determined using receiver operating characteristics analysis. When the preoperative cystatin C concentration exceeded 1.28 mg/L, the postoperative GFR was less than 70 mL/min in the first 5 days after OLT. These findings suggest that if the cystatin C concentration exceeds the cutoff point preoperatively, there will be deterioration of kidney function after OLT. Along with other researchers, we suggest that cystatin C is a sensitive marker of post-OLT kidney function.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to analyze the impact of peri‐transplant dialysis on the long‐term mortality of liver transplant recipients. We performed a single‐center, retrospective cohort study of 743 adult liver transplants; patients who received first liver transplants were divided into four groups: those who received more than one dialysis treatment (hemodialysis [HD], continuous veno‐venous hemodialysis [CVVH]) pre‐orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), post OLT, pre‐ and post OLT, and those not dialyzed. There was no statistically significant difference in the mean survival time for patients who were not dialyzed or dialyzed only pre‐OLT. Mean survival times were markedly reduced in patients dialyzed post OLT or both pre‐ and post OLT compared with those never dialyzed. Mortality risk in a Cox proportional hazards model correlated with hemodialysis post OLT, intra‐operative vasopressin or neosynephrine, donor age >50 yr, Cr >1.5 mg/dL at transplant, and need for subsequent retransplant. Risk of post‐OLT dialysis was correlated with pre‐OLT dialysis, intra‐operative levophed, pre‐OLT diabetes, African American race, pre‐OLT Cr >1.5, and male gender. We conclude that renal failure requiring hemodialysis post liver transplant, irrespective of pre‐transplant dialysis status, is a profound risk factor for death in liver transplant recipients.  相似文献

This study is designed to measure the impact of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) on patients' health-related quality of life. Two types of health-related quality-of-life questionnaires were administered at baseline and after OLT: generic (Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 36) and liver specific (Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire). We also recorded clinical, demographic, and laboratory data. Pre-OLT scores of liver transplant candidates were compared with those of the general population and patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Thirty-seven liver transplant candidates were evaluated: 25 men and 12 women; age, 50.2 ± 12 years; Child's class A, 3 patients; class B, 30 patients; class C, 4 patients; and galactose elimination capacity, 277 ± 81. Health-related quality-of-life scores for patients awaiting liver transplants were significantly lower than those for patients with COPD and CHF and those in the general population. Sex and cause of liver disease did not affect the scores. There was a weak but significant inverse correlation between some aspects of health-related quality of life and both age (r = –0.31 to –0.34) and worsening of the Child-Pugh score (r = –0.32 to –0.43). All measured aspects of health-related quality of life significantly improved after OLT, and mental health scores were indistinguishable from the population norms. Biliary atresia is the most common indication for liver transplantation (OLT) in children. We present our experience with OLT as a treatment for end-stage liver disease in children with biliary atresia. We performed a retrospective review of 20 biliary atresia patients (11 male, 9 female patients; mean age, 21.4 months; range, 6 to 84 months) who had undergone OLT. Mean preoperative weight and height were 10.1 +/- 5.8 kg and 72.5 cm, respectively. Thirteen recipients were younger than 1 year of age, and 15 weighed less than 10 kg at the time of OLT. Fourteen recipients had undergone a Kasai operation prior to the OLT. The mean serum total bilirubin level was 22.56 mg/dL before OLT. Eighteen left lateral segment grafts and two whole grafts were transplanted. The mean recipient operative time was 9.25 hours. The mean recipient intraoperative blood loss was 1.81 U. Two hepatic arterial thromboses and one biliary leak occurred soon after surgery. Portal vein stenoses developed in two recipients at 10 and 12 months after OLT; both were treated with balloon dilatation. Two biliary stenoses, which occurred at 10 months and 3.5 years after surgery, were treated with balloon dilatation. Two recipients died at 2 and 12 days after OLT because of respiratory distress syndrome and sepsis, respectively. The remaining 18 (90%) recipients are alive with good graft function. The overall rejection rate was 31.25%. OLT is an effective treatment for children with biliary atresia and a failed Kasai procedure. Living related liver grafts represented an excellent organ supply for these patients.  相似文献
