In order to reuse red mud and bauxite tailings mud (two typical aluminum industrial wastes) to reduce the occupation of land resources and environmental damage, these two wastes were combined to develop subgrade materials for the first time. With different combinations, the effects of the amounts of red mud, tailings mud, and cementitious materials on the strength of tested subgrade materials were investigated. The mechanism of strength growth was analyzed by a micro-test. The test results showed that the material strength of three combinations met the requirements when the unconfined compression strength (UCS) of all combinations increased with age. The UCS of the A1BC2 combination (the mass ratio of red mud and tailings mud was 2:1, the mass ratio of cement and quicklime was 1:1, and the mass ratio of waste and cementitious materials was 1:0.2) was the best, with the UCS being 3.03 MPa in 7 days. Microscopic imaging showed that specimens with high red mud contents had compact structures without cracks. The strength of these materials is mainly due to hydration reactions and pozzolanic reactions; the cementitious products generated by the reactions solidify Na+ and inhibit the release of OH, while the addition of tailings mud can reduce the content of Na2O in the material, which makes the environmental compatibility of the A3BC2 combination the best (the mass ratio of red mud and tailings mud was 1:2, the mass ratio of cement and quicklime was 1:1, and the mass ratio of waste and cementitious materials was 1:0.2). Its pH value was 8.75. This experiment verifies the feasibility of the combined application of red mud and tailings mud in subgrade materials. To this end, a feasible scheme for the simultaneous consumption of these two kinds of aluminum industrial wastes has been proposed.  相似文献

In order to effectively utilize aluminum industrial waste—red mud and bauxite tailings mud—and reduce the adverse impact of waste on the environment and occupation of land resources, a red mud–bauxite tailings mud foam lightweight soil was developed based on the existing research results. Experiments were conducted to investigate the mechanical properties and microscopic characteristics of the developed materials with different proportions of red mud and bauxite tailings mud. Results show that with the increase in red mud content, the wet density and fluidity of the synthetic sample was increased. With 16% red mud content, the water stability coefficient of the synthetic sample reached its maximum of 0.826, as well as the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of the sample cured for 28 d (1.056 MPa). SEM images reveal that some wastes of the sample without red mud were agglomerated, the peripheral hydration products were less wrapped, and when the amount of red mud was 16%, the hydration products tightly wrapped the waste particles and increased the structural compactness. The final concentration of alkali leaching of samples increased with the addition of red mud. The maximum concentration of alkali leaching was 384 mg/L for the group with the addition of red mud of 16%. Based on the obtained mechanical strength and alkali release analysis, the sample B24R16 was selected as the optimum among all tested groups. This study explored a way to reuse aluminum industrial waste, and the results are expected to be applied to roadbed and mining filling.  相似文献

Bauxite residue, also known as red mud (RM), from alumina production is the most promising technogenic material for the production of scandium (Sc) and other rare earth elements (REEs). Conveniently, RM is processed by using a strong acid (pH < 2.5), which lead to co-dissolution of iron and other undesirable major components. In this work, for the first time, the possibility of selective extraction of scandium from red mud by using highly diluted acid (pH > 4) in the presence of MgSO4 was shown. The effect of temperature (40–80 °C), time (0–60 min), pH (2–5), and the MgSO4 concentration (12–36 g L−1) on Sc extraction efficiency was evaluated. It was shown that Sc extraction was higher than 63% even at a pH of 4, at 80 °C, after 1 h, while more than 80% could be extracted at a pH of 2. Iron extraction reduced from 7.7 to 0.03% by increasing the pH from 2 to 4. The kinetics study using the shrinking core model (SCM) has shown that diffusion through a product layer is a rate-limiting stage of the process at high temperatures (>60 °C) and low pH (<3), whereas, at lower temperatures and higher pH values, the leaching rate is limited by diffusion through the liquid film.  相似文献

The foamed lightweight soil (FLS) with superior performance was prepared to be used as a subgrade filling material in an intelligent networked vehicle test site. The production process of practical engineering FLS is simulated in the laboratory. The performance of the prepared FLS is the same as that of practical engineering. The test results show that the FLS prepared with 30% cement, 30% granulated blast furnace slag, and 40% fly ash as cementing material has a flow factor of 175 mm. It has good fluidity and is easy to pump. Wet density reaches 593 kg/m3 within the range of the control index of 600 ± 30 kg/m3. The compressive strength of 7 d and 28 d reaches 0.82 MPa and 1.90 MPa, respectively, which is higher than the design strength of 0.5 MPa and 1.0 MPa. Compared with FLS made of pure cement as a cementing material, the FLS has a low heat of hydration, good volume stability, no cracks on the surface, excellent sulfate resistance, good economy, and low carbon characteristics. In the meantime, it can reduce 70% CO2 emissions in cement production. The advanced vehicle-mounted mobile intelligent control system is flexible and convenient in actual engineering construction. It can display the wet density of FLS online, which is easy to adjust and control to ensure the quality stability of FLS.  相似文献

The use of bulk solid-waste iron tailing (IOT), red mud (RM), and oyster shells to prepare cemented paste backfill (CPB) can effectively solve the ecological problems caused by industrial solid waste storage and improve the utilization rate of such materials. In this study, a new type of CPB was prepared by partially replacing slag with RM, with calcined oyster shell (COS) as the alkaline activator and IOT as aggregate. The central composite design (CCD) method was used to design experiments to predict the effects of the COS dosage, RM substitution rate, solid mass, and aggregate–binder ratio using 28-dUCS, slump, and the cost of CPB. In this way, a regression model was established. The quantum genetic algorithm (QGA) was used to optimize the regression model, and X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) microscopic tests are performed on CPB samples of different ages with the optimal mix ratio. The results showed that COS is a highly active alkaline substance that provides an alkaline environment for polymerization reactions. In the alkaline medium, the hematite and goethite in RM and quartz in IOT gradually dissolved and participated in the process of polymerization. The main polymerization products of the CPB samples are calcium–silicate–hydrogel (C–S–H), calcium–aluminosilicate–hydrogel (C–A–S–H), and aluminosilicate crystals such as quartz, albite, and foshagite. These products are intertwined and filled in the internal pores of the CPB, enabling the pore contents to decrease and the interiors of the CPB samples to gradually connect into a whole. In this way, the compressive strength is increased.  相似文献

The disposal of nonferrous metal tailings poses a global economic and environmental problem. After employing a clinker-free steel slag-based binder (SSB) for the solidification/stabilization (S/S) of arsenic-containing tailings (AT), the effectiveness, leaching risk, and leaching mechanism of the SSB S/S treated AT (SST) were investigated via the Chinese leaching tests HJ/T299-2007 and HJ557-2010 and the leaching tests series of the multi-process Leaching Environmental Assessment Framework (LEAF). The test results were compared with those of ordinary Portland cement S/S treated AT (PST) and showed that the arsenic (As) curing rates for SST and PST samples were in the range of 96.80–98.89% and 99.52–99.2%, respectively, whereby the leached-As concentration was strongly dependent on the pH of the leachate. The LEAF test results showed that the liquid–solid partitioning limit of As leaching from AT, SST, and PST was controlled by solubility, and the highest concentrations of leached As were 7.56, 0.34, and 0.33 mg/L, respectively. The As leaching mechanism of monolithic SST was controlled by diffusion, and the mean observed diffusion coefficient of 9.35 × 1015 cm2/s was higher than that of PST (1.55 × 10−16 cm2/s). The findings of this study could facilitate the utilization of SSB in S/S processes, replacing cement to reduce CO2 emissions.  相似文献

A large amount of Bayer process red mud is discharged in the process of alumina production, which has caused significant pollution in the environment. The pozzolanic activity of Bayer red mud as a supplementary cementitious material is a research hotspot. In this work, a new method for Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry is used to determine the polymerization degree of Bayer red mud in order to evaluate its pozzolanic activity. Based on the results of the dissolution concentration of (Si+Al), strength index and polymerization degree of Bayer red mud, the relationships between different evaluation methods were analyzed, and the relevant calculation formulas of pozzolanic activity were obtained. The results showed that different evaluation methods can reflect the variation law of pozzolanic activity in Bayer red mud. The polymerization degree of Bayer red mud had a good linear relationship with the pozzolanic activity index obtained by the strength index and dissolution concentration of (Si+Al), respectively. The polymerization degree was negatively correlated with pozzolanic activity index and dissolution concentration of (Si+Al), and the correlation coefficients were greater than 0.85. Therefore, this method was found to be effective and hence can be used as a rapid and simple test for pozzolanic activity evaluation of Bayer red mud.  相似文献
