Carcinosarcomas are rare tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract, consisting of both carcinomatous and sarcomatous tissue. The larynx and oral cavity are most frequently involved. There has been much controversy regarding the histological nature and clinical course of these tumors. We report a case of carcinosarcoma of the floor of mouth in a 76 year old man who presented with a large pedunculated sublingual mass. There was no evidence of regional or systemic metastatic disease. After local excision, he was followed for one year without evidence of recurrence or metastasis. A review of the literature is presented, with an attempt to clarify clinically relevant aspects of nomenclature, pathogenesis, and clinical course.  相似文献

Congenital cysts of the floor of the mouth are rarely seen. We investigated in the years 1987 and 1988 four patients with swellings in the floor in the mouth. The histological examination results dermoid and epidermoid cysts. A teratoma was not seen. Sonographic investigation and computertomography were both helpful by getting the correct diagnosis of these cysts and their location. The treatment was the exstirpation from the outside of the throat because all cysts were located under the geniohyoid muscle.  相似文献

Dermoid cysts are congenital lesions deriving from the ectodermal differentiation of stem cells. They are uncommon in the floor of the mouth. We report a sublingual dermoid cyst in a 24-year-old male and review the literature.  相似文献

Tonsillectomy is one of the most common operations performed by otolaryngologists. Sore throat, otalgia, fever, dehydration, uvular edema, and tonsillar hemorrhage are common complications. Hematoma of the mouth floor, an unusual complication, was reported. A 21-year-old man presented with a soft, dark-red swelling of the mouth floor three days after undergoing tonsillectomy. The hematoma of the mouth floor subsided spontaneously 2 weeks later. The complication in this case was most likely caused by the blood vessel insult, which resulted from suspension of the mouth with tongue retraction during surgery. This procedure should be done carefully to prevent this complication. Hematoma of the mouth floor can cause airway obstruction, and if present, health providers should be alert to the possibility of airway compromise.  相似文献

Basaloid-squamous cell carcinoma is a rare tumor characterized by Wain et al in 1986 as a separate pathological entity. In head and neck more than 100 cases have been reported, with a strong predilection for hypopharynx, base of tongue, and supraglotic larynx. This entity also has been described in nasal cavity, oesophagus, tonsils and oral cavity. Only 14 cases has been reported arising in the floor of the mouth, and none in our literature. We present a new case in floor of the mouth and clinicopathological features are emphasized. We have undertaken moreover a bibliographic review of this uncommon and aggressive neoplasm.  相似文献

Dermoid cysts are congenital lesions composed of tissues with different origins: ectoblastic, mesoblastic, or endoblastic, caused by a defect in the fusion of the embryonic lateral mesenchymatic mass. A true dermoid cyst is a cavity covered with epithelium showing keratinisation and presenting identifiable dermal appendices. We present a case of a male patient aged 53 years presenting tumouration on the floor of the mouth with an evolution of about 30 years. A bibliographic revision of this pathology is also presented.  相似文献

Leiomyosarcomas arise rarely in the head and neck. We report a 41-year-old woman with an extremely rare leiomyosarcoma of the floor of the mouth extending to the oropharynx. This article stresses the value of imaging methods such as CT, MRI and ultrasound for preoperative diagnosis, and emphasises histopathological findings. The therapeutic principles and prognostic factors of leiomyosarcomas are illustrated on the basis of this case.  相似文献

Enteric duplications are uncommon. A rare foregut duplication cyst arising in the floor of mouth is reported. Diagnosis of cystic lesion within the oral cavity was made in utero. Enteric duplications have not yet been attributed to a single embryogenesis but are likely to represent an error in migration of normal cells that rest in an abnormal position. Immediately following delivery of the neonate via an ex-utero intrapartum treatment (EXIT) procedure, the cyst was marsupialised but required definitive surgical excision at 5 weeks of age.  相似文献

Congenital dermoid cysts of the floor of the mouth are relatively rare but when they occur, they do so inevitably in the midline. We present a case of a true lateral dermoid cyst of this region without any intra-oral extension. We discuss the anatomical and histological classification of dermoid cysts within the floor of the mouth.  相似文献
