Adenocarcinoma of the lung

The clinical and histological features of 53 cases of adenocarcinoma of the lung are presented. In more than one-third of the patients the tumour was a solitary nodule, raising the possibility that it might be a metastatic focus. Although histological features may suggest an origin from such sources as the kidney, uterus, ovary or bowel, nearly all such cancers are, in fact, primary bronchial tumours. It is seldom justifiable to submit the patient with a nodular adenocarcinoma in the lung to a search for a possible extrathoracic primary neoplasm.     

Adenocarcinoma arising in a mucinous cystadenoma of the lung

A peripheral nodule in the lung of a 69 year old woman was found on histological examination to contain a focus of adenocarcinoma arising in a mucinous cystadenoma.     

Large plasma cell tumour of the lung in a young adult—A case report

Conclusion Inflammatory pseudotumour is a rare spaceoccupying lesion of unknown etiology that can mimic malignancy on clinico-radiological and pathological examination. An accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult⁷. The results of biopsy can be inconclusive and an associated malignancy can be missed. Complete resection remains the best treatment. The present case demonstrates the importance of bearing the possibility of inflammatory pseudotumour in mind while evaluating lung masses in children.     

Paraganglioma of the prostate in a young adult

Extraadrenal pheochromocytomas, or paragangliomas, are rare and potentially malignant tumors that may occur in extraadrenal chromaffin tissue. The determination of malignant or benign represents the crucial point once the diagnosis has been established. We report a case of a 33-year-old man with an incidental paraganglioma involving the prostate. He underwent nerve-sparing radical retropubic prostatectomy and monolateral lymphadenectomy. Urinary continence was complete on postoperative day 5, and the patient had intercourse 2 weeks after surgery. The follow-up was at 24 months with no evidence of recurrent disease on clinical examination or body scan evaluation.     

Penile nodule in a young adult

A 20 year old male presented with a nodule, 1.25 cm x 1 cm, on the ventral aspect of the foreskin of his penis. The nodule was excised by circumcision. On histology it was found to be a multiloculated cyst located in the dermis of the prepuce. It contained eosinophilic material and was lined by pseudostratified columnar epithelium. There was no evidence of inflammation or malignancy in any of the sections of this median raphe cyst. The aetiology of such cysts is discussed in addition to a review of the literature.
