Silica is one of the most widely used ceramics due to its excellent chemical stability and dielectric property. However, its destructive brittle nature inhabits it from wider application as a functional ceramic. An improvement in toughness is a challenging topic for silica ceramic, as well as other ceramics. In the paper, silica ceramic with different types of boron nitride powders and alumina platelets was fabricated by hot-pressing. Introduction of the additives had great influence on the composites’ mechanical properties and microstructure. The silica matrix composite containing micro-sized boron nitride powders possessed the best mechanical properties, including the bending strength (134.5 MPa) and the fracture toughness (1.85 Mpa·m1/2). Meanwhile, the introduction of alumina platelets combined with boron nitride nanosheets achieved an effective enhancement of fracture toughness while maintaining the bending strength. Compared with the monolithic silica, the composite with simultaneous addition of alumina platelets and boron nitride nanosheets had a fracture toughness of 2.23 Mpa·m1/2, increased by approximately 27% (1.75 Mpa·m1/2). The crack deflection and platelet pullout were contributing to enhancement of the fracture toughness. The improved mechanical properties, combined with the intrinsic excellent dielectric and chemical properties, make the silica matrix composites promising wave transparent and thermal protection materials.  相似文献

In this study, TiN–TiB2–hBN composite ceramics were prepared via reactive hot pressing using TiN and amorphous B powders as raw materials. Different sintering temperatures and composition ratios were studied. The results show that the 70 vol% TiN–17.6 vol% TiB2–12.4 vol% hBN ceramic composites obtained ideal comprehensive properties at 1600 °C. The relative density, Vickers hardness, bending strength, and fracture toughness were 99%, 11 GPa, 521 MPa, and 4.22 MPa·m1/2, respectively. Densification was promoted by the highly active reaction product TiB2, and the structural defects formed in the grains. Meanwhile, the good interfacial bonding between TiN and TiB2 grains and the uniform dispersion of ultrafine hBN in the matrix contributed to the excellent bending strength. Moreover, the toughening mechanism of crack deflection and grain pull-out improved the fracture toughness.  相似文献

The effects of Al deoxidation and Zr deoxidation on the microstructure and properties of sulfide stress corrosion resistant high-strength steel have been investigated. The feasibility of the Zr deoxidation instead of Al deoxidation was confirmed by the thermodynamic analysis of the deoxidation of various elements. The experimental results indicate that the average diameters of the inclusions in Al-Steel and Zr-Steel were 2.45 μm and 1.65 μm, respectively. The Al-Steel and Zr-Steel contained 22.38% and 68.77% inclusions per unit area, respectively, and the fraction of inclusions in the Al-Steel and Zr-Steel with diameters less than 2 μm was about 73.46% and 89.63%, respectively, indicating that the Zr deoxidation process could effectively refine inclusions and promote dispersion. The average diameters of austenite grain for the Al-Steel and Zr-Steel were about 9.1 μm and 8 μm, respectively. The fine particles in Zr-Steel could pin the austenite grain boundaries and clearly refine the grains. The average grain size of tempered martensite was 8.2 μm and 3.8 μm, respectively. The yield strength of the Al-Steel and Zr-Steel was 922 MPa and 939 MPa, respectively; the impact energy was 60 ± 6 J and 132 ± 6 J, respectively. Moreover, the fracture time of the NACE-A was from 28 h (Al-Steel) to 720 h (Zr-Steel) without fracture. The experimental steel deoxidized by Zr achieved a simultaneous improvement in strength, toughness and sulfide stress corrosion resistance, and the effect of inclusions on the fracture of the sulfide stress corrosion resistant high-strength steel can be explained by the Griffith theory.  相似文献

Ductile-to-brittle transition (DBT) temperature and brittle fracture stress, σF, are important toughness criteria for structural materials. In this paper, low-carbon steels with an ultrafine elongated grain (UFEG) structure (transverse grain size 1.2 μm) and with two ferrite (α)-pearlite structure with grain sizes 10 µm and 18 µm were prepared. The UFEG steel was fabricated using multipass warm biaxial rolling. The tensile tests with a cylindrical specimen and three-point bending tests with a single-edge-notched specimen were performed at −196 °C. The local stress near the notch was quantitatively calculated via finite element analysis (FEA). The σF for each sample was quantified based on the experimental results and FEA. The relationship between σF and dα in the wide range of 1.0 μm to 138 μm was plotted, including data from past literature. Finally, the conditions of grain size and temperature that cause DBT fracture in low-carbon steel were shown via the stress−d−1/2 map. The results quantitatively showed the superiority of α grain size for brittle fracture.  相似文献

The vacuum hot-rolled SUS314/Q235 stainless steel clad plate has many drawbacks including serious interface alloy element diffusion, stainless steel cladding’s sensitization, and carbon steel substrate’s low strength. In this study, the comprehensive properties were systematically adjusted by changing the thickness of the Ni interlayer (0, 100, 200 μm) and the quenching temperature (1000~1150 °C). The results showed that the Ni interlayer can obviously hinder the diffusion of carbon element, so as to achieve the purpose of eliminating the decarburized layer and reducing the carbon content of the carburized layer. Meanwhile, the perfect metallurgical bonding between the substrate and cladding can be obtained, effectively improving the stainless steel clad plate’s tensile shear strength and comprehensive mechanical properties, and significantly reduce the brittleness of the carburized layer. As the quenching temperature increases, the grains coarsening of carbon steel and stainless steel became more and more serious, and the sensitization phenomenon and the thickness of the carburized layer are gradually decreased. The stainless steel clad plate (Ni layer thickness of 100 μm) quenched at 1050 °C had the best comprehensive mechanical properties. Herein, the interface shear strength, tensile strength and the fracture elongation reached 360.5 MPa, 867 MPa and 16.10%, respectively, achieving strengthening and toughening aim. This is attributed to the disappearance of the sensitization phenomenon, the grain refinement and the lower interface residual stress.  相似文献

The printing accuracy of three-dimensional (3D) dental models using photopolymer resin affects dental diagnostic procedures and prostheses. The accuracy of research into the outer wall thickness and printing direction data for partial-arch model printing has been insufficient. This study analyzed the effects of wall thickness and printing direction accuracy. Anterior and posterior partial-arch models were designed with different outer wall thicknesses. After 3D printing, a trueness analysis was performed. Those with full-arch models were the control group. The full-arch model had an error value of 73.60 ± 2.61 µm (mean ± standard deviation). The error values for the partial-arch models with 1-, 2-, and 3-mm thick outer walls were 54.80 ± 5.34, 47.58 ± 7.59, and 42.25 ± 9.19 μm, respectively, and that for the fully filled model was 38.20 ± 4.63 μm. The printing accuracies differed significantly between 0 degrees and 60 degrees, at 49.54 ± 8.16 and 40.66 ± 6.80 μm, respectively (F = 153.121, p < 0.001). In conclusion, the trueness of the partial-arch model was better than that of the full-arch model, and models with thick outer walls at 60 degrees were highly accurate.  相似文献

It is known that the yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) material has superior thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. This material is used for manufacturing products and components of air heaters, hydrogen reformers, cracking furnaces, fired heaters, etc. This work is aimed at searching for the optimal sintering mode of YSZ ceramics that provides a high crack growth resistance. Beam specimens of ZrO2 ceramics doped with 6, 7, and 8 mol% Y2O3 (hereinafter: 6YSZ, 7YSZ, and 8YSZ) were prepared using a conventional sintering technique. Four sintering temperatures (1450 °C, 1500 °C, 1550 °C, and 1600 °C) were used for the 6YSZ series and two sintering temperatures (1550 °C and 1600 °C) were used for the 7YSZ and 8YSZ series. The series of sintered specimens were ground and polished to reach a good surface quality. Several mechanical tests of the materials were performed, namely, the microhardness test, fracture toughness test by the indentation method, and single-edge notch beam (SENB) test under three-point bending. Based on XRD analysis, the phase balance (percentages of tetragonal, cubic, and monoclinic ZrO2 phases) of each composition was substantiated. The morphology of the fracture surfaces of specimens after both the fracture toughness tests was studied in relation to the mechanical behavior of the specimens and the microstructure of corresponding materials. SEM-EDX analysis was used for microstructural characterization. It was found that both the yttria percentage and sintering temperature affect the mechanical behavior of the ceramics. Optimal chemical composition and sintering temperature were determined for the studied series of ceramics. The maximum transformation toughening effect was revealed for ZrO2-6 mol% Y2O3 ceramics during indentation. However, in the case of a SENB test, the maximum transformation toughening effect in the crack tip vicinity was found in ZrO2-7 mol% Y2O3 ceramics. The conditions for obtaining YSZ ceramics with high fracture toughness are discussed.  相似文献

Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is a rapidly growing 3D printing technology. However, printing materials are restricted to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or poly (lactic acid) (PLA) in most Fused deposition modeling (FDM) equipment. Here, we report on a new high-performance printing material, polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK), which could surmount these shortcomings. This paper is devoted to studying the influence of layer thickness and raster angle on the mechanical properties of 3D-printed PEEK. Samples with three different layer thicknesses (200, 300 and 400 μm) and raster angles (0°, 30° and 45°) were built using a polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) 3D printing system and their tensile, compressive and bending strengths were tested. The optimal mechanical properties of polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) samples were found at a layer thickness of 300 μm and a raster angle of 0°. To evaluate the printing performance of polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) samples, a comparison was made between the mechanical properties of 3D-printed polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) parts. The results suggest that the average tensile strengths of polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) parts were 108% higher than those for acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and compressive strengths were 114% and bending strengths were 115%. However, the modulus of elasticity for both materials was similar. These results indicate that the mechanical properties of 3D-printed polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) are superior to 3D-printed ABS.  相似文献

Finding a non-destructive characterization method for cellular ceramics’ compressive strength and fracture behavior has been a challenge for material scientists for years. However, for transparent materials, internal stresses can be determined by the non-destructive photoelastic measurements. We propose a novel approach to correlate the photoelastic stresses of polymer (epoxy resin) prototypes with the mechanical properties of ceramics (alumina). Regular and inverse epoxy honeycombs were 3D-printed via stereolithography with varying structure angles from −35° to 35°, with negative angles forming an auxetic and positive hexagonal lattice. Photoelastic measurements under mechanical loading revealed regions of excess stress, which directly corresponded to the initial fracture points of the ceramic honeycombs. These honeycombs were made by a combination of 3D printing and transfer molding from alumina. The photoelastic stress distribution was much more homogeneous for angles of a smaller magnitude, which led to highly increased compressive strengths of up to 446 ± 156 MPa at 0°. By adapting the geometric structural model from Gibson and Ashby, we showed that we could use a non-destructive technique to determine the compressive strength of alumina honeycombs from the median photoelastic stress measured on similar epoxy honeycomb structures.  相似文献

Up to now, 12 μm thick rolled copper foil is the thinnest rolled copper foil that can be stably produced. The softened microstructure and properties of 12 μm thick rolled copper foil were systematically studied in this paper. The softened process consists of thermal treatment at 180 °C for different times. The results show that the softened annealing texture is mainly cubic texture, and the cubic texture fraction increases with the increase in annealing time. The cubic texture fraction reaches the highest (34.4%) after annealing for 60 min. After annealing for 1–5 min, the tensile strength and the bending times decrease significantly. After annealing for 10–60 min, the tensile strength tends to be stable, and the bending times increase slightly. With the increase in annealing time, the electrical conductivity increases gradually, reaching 92% International Annealed Copper Standard (IACS) after annealing for 60 min. Electrical conductivity can be used as a fast and effective method to analyze the microstructure of metals.  相似文献

E36 ship plate steel was, respectively, produced by as rolling and normalizing process (ARNP), and EH36 and FH36 ship plate steel was produced by the thermo-mechanical control process (TMCP) with low carbon and multi-element micro-alloying. The microstructure of the three grades of ship plate steel was composed of ferrite, pearlite, and carbides at room temperature. The average grain size on 1/4 width sections (i.e., longitudinal sections) of the three grades of ship plate steel was, respectively, 5.4 μm, 10.8 μm, and 11.9 μm. EH36 and FH36 ship plate steel had the higher strength due to precipitation and grain boundary strengthening effect, while the E36 ship plate steel had the lower strength due to the recovery phenomenon in the normalizing process. EH36 and FH36 ship plate steel had higher impact toughness due to lower carbon (C) and silicon (Si) content and higher manganese (Mn) content than E36 ship plate steel. E36 ship plate steel had the best plasticity due to the two strong {110} and {111} texture components. The fracture toughness KJ0.2BL(30) values of E36 and EH36 and KJ0.2BL value of FH36 ship plate steel were, respectively, obtained at 387 MPa·m1/2, 464 MPa·m1/2 and 443 MPa·m1/2. EH36 and FH36 ship plate steel had higher KJ0.2BL(30) due to lower C and Si and higher Mn, niobium (Nb), vanadium (V), and aluminum (Al) content than the E36 ship plate steel. The fatigue crack growth rate of E36 ship plate steel was higher than that of EH36 and FH36 ship plate steel due to its higher carbon content and obviously smaller grain size. The analysis results and data may provide a necessary experimental basis for quantitatively establishing the relationship between fracture toughness, yield strength and impact toughness, as well as the relationship between fatigue crack growth rate and both strength and fracture toughness.  相似文献

Carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic materials have attracted several applications, including the fused deposition modelling (FDM) process. As a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to its virgin counterpart, the use of milled recycled carbon fiber (rCF) has received much attention. The quality of the feed filament is important to avoid filament breakage and clogged nozzles during the FDM printing process. However, information about the effect of material parameters on the mechanical and physical properties of short rCF-reinforced FDM filament is still limited. This paper presents the effect of fiber loading (10 wt%, 20 wt%, and 30 wt%) and fiber size (63 µm, 75 µm, and 150 µm) on the filament’s tensile properties, surface roughness, microstructure, porosity level, density, and water absorptivity. The results show that the addition of 63 µm fibers at 10 wt% loading can enhance filament tensile properties with minimal surface roughness and porosity level. The addition of rCF increased the density and reduced the material’s water intake. This study also indicates a clear trade-off between the optimized properties. Hence, it is recommended that the optimization of rCF should consider the final application of the product. The findings of this study provide a new manufacturing strategy in utilizing milled rCF in potential 3D printing-based applications.  相似文献

This research activity was aimed at the development of dual-scale scaffolds consisting of three-dimensional constructs of aligned poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) microfilaments and electrospun poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) fibers. PCL constructs composed by layers of parallel microsized filaments (0/90° lay-down pattern), with a diameter of around 365 μm and interfilament distance of around 191 μm, were produced using a melt extrusion-based additive manufacturing technique. PLGA electrospun fibers with a diameter of around 1 μm were collected on top of the PCL constructs with different thicknesses, showing a certain degree of alignment. Cell culture experiments employing the MC3T3 murine preosteoblast cell line showed good cell viability and adhesion on the dual-scale scaffolds. In particular, the influence of electrospun fibers on cell morphology and behavior was evident, as well as in creating a structural bridging for cell colonization in the interfilament gap.  相似文献

This paper describes combusting loose powder beds of mixtures of aluminum metal powders and aluminum oxide powders with various grain sizes under various nitrogen pressure. The synthesis conditions required at least 20/80 weight ratio of aluminum metal powder to alumina powder in the mix to reach approximately 80 wt% of γ-AlON in the products. Finely ground fused white alumina with a mean grain size of 5 μm was sufficient to achieve results similar to very fine alumina with 0.3 μm grains. A lower nitrogen pressure of 1 MPa provided good results, allowing a less robust apparatus to be used. The salt-assisted combustion synthesis upon addition of 10 wt% of ammonium nitrite resulted in a slight increase in product yield and allowed lower aluminum metal powder content in mixes to be ignited. Increasing the charge mass five times resulted in a very similar γ-AlON yield, providing a promising technology for scaling up. Synthesis in loose powder beds could be utilized for effective production of relatively cheap and uniform AlON powder, which could be easily prepared for forming and sintering without intensive grounding and milling, which usually introduce serious contamination.  相似文献

Coal fly ash with the addition of Al2O3 was recycled to produce mullite/alumina composites and the camphene-based freeze casting technique was processed to develop a controlled porous structure with improved mechanical strength. Many rod-shaped mullite crystals, formed by the mullitization of coal fly ash in the presence of enough silicate, melt. After sintering at 1300–1500 °C with the initial solid loadings of 30–50 wt.%, interconnected macro-sized pore channels with nearly circular-shaped cross-sections developed along the macroscopic solidification direction of camphene solvent used in freeze casting and a few micron-sized pores formed in the walls of the pore channels. The macro-pore size of the mullite/alumina composites was in the range 20–25 μm, 18–20 μm and 15–17 μm with reverse dependence on the sintering temperature at 30, 40 and 50 wt.% solid loading, respectively. By increasing initial solid loading and the sintering temperature, the sintered porosity was reduced from 79.8% to 31.2%, resulting in an increase in the compressive strength from 8.2 to 80.4 MPa.  相似文献

The influence of polymer infiltration on the flexural strength and toughness of β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) scaffolds fabricated by robocasting (direct-write assembly) is analyzed. Porous structures consisting of a tetragonal three-dimensional lattice of interpenetrating rods were impregnated with biodegradable polymers (poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)) by immersion of the structure in a polymer melt. Infiltration increased the flexural strength of these model scaffolds by a factor of 5 (PCL) or 22 (PLA), an enhancement considerably greater than that reported for compression strength of analogue materials. The greater strength improvement in bending was attributed to a more effective transfer of stress to the polymer under this solicitation since the degree of strengthening associated to the sealing of precursor flaws in the ceramic rod surfaces should remain unaltered. Impregnation with either polymer also improved further than in compression the fracture energy of the scaffolds (by more than two orders of magnitude). This increase is associated to the extraordinary strengthening provided by impregnation and to a crack bridging toughening mechanism produced by polymer fibrils.  相似文献

This paper presents results of a study on the effect of filler size in the form of 15 wt% corn stalk (CS) fibers on the mechanical and thermomechanical properties of polylactide (PLA) matrix composites. In the test, polylactidic acid (PLA) is filled with four types of length of corn stalk fibers with a diameter of 1 mm, 1.6 mm, 2 mm and 4 mm. The composites were composed by single screw extrusion and then samples were prepared by injection molding. The mechanical properties of the composites were determined by static tensile test, static bending test and Charpy impact test while the thermo-mechanical properties were determined by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). The composite structures were also observed using X-ray microcomputed tomography and scanning electron microscopy. In the PLA/CS composites, as the filler fiber diameter increased, the degradation of mechanical properties relative to the matrix was observed including tensile strength (decrease 22.9–51.1%), bending strength (decrease 18.9–36.6%) and impact energy absorption (decrease 58.8–69.8%). On the basis of 3D images of the composite structures for the filler particles larger than 2 mm a weak dispersion with the filler was observed, which is reflected in a significant deterioration of the mechanical and thermomechanical properties of the composite. The best mechanical and thermomechanical properties were found in the composite with filler fiber of 1 mm diameter. Processing resulted in a more than 6-fold decrease in filler fiber length from 719 ± 190 µm, 893 ± 291 µm, 1073 ± 219 µm, and 1698 ± 636 µm for CS1, CS1.6, CS2, and CS4 fractions, respectively, to 104 ± 43 µm, 123 ± 60 µm, 173 ± 60 µm, and 227 ± 89 µm. The fabricated green composites with 1 to 2 mm corn stalk fiber filler are an alternative to traditional plastic based materials in some applications.  相似文献

PEEK (poly ether ether ketone) materials printed using FFF 3D printing have been actively studied on applying electronic devices in satellites owing to their excellent light weight and thermal resistance. However, the PEEK FFF process generated cavities inside due to large shrinkage has degraded both mechanical integrity and printing reliability. Here, we have investigated the correlations between nozzle temperatures and PEEK printing behaviors such as the reliability of printed line width and surface roughness. As the temperature increased from 360 to 380 °C, the width of the printed line showed a tendency to decrease. However, the width of PEEK printed lines re-increased from 350 to 426 μm at the nozzle temperatures between 380 and 400 °C, associated with solid to liquid-like phase transition and printed out distorted and disconnected lines. The surface roughness of PEEK objects increased from 49 to 55 μm as the nozzle temperature increased from 380 to 400 °C, where PEEK is melted down and quickly solidified based on more energy and additional heating time at higher printing temperatures at 400 °C. Based on these printing trends, a reliability analysis of the printed line was performed. The printed line formed the most uniform width at 380 °C and had a highest Weibull coefficient of 28.6 using the reliability analysis technique called Weibull modulus.  相似文献

The substitution of river sand with glass aggregate (GA) and cement with glass powder (GP) is a mainstream method to recycle waste glass. Traditionally, standard curing was widely used for glass-based mortars. However, it is time-consuming and cannot address low mechanical strengths of the early-age mortars. Therefore, the effect of water curing at 80 °C on the properties of GA mortars is investigated. Furthermore, the effect of the GP size is also considered. Results show that compared with the expansion of alkali-silica reaction (ASR), water curing at 80 °C has a negligible effect on the volume change. Moreover, the compressive strength of GA mortars under 1-day water curing at 80 °C is comparable with that under 28-day water curing at 20 °C. Therefore, the 1-day water curing at 80 °C is proposed as an accelerated curing method for GA mortars. On the other hand, the addition of GP with the mean size of 28.3 and 47.9 μm can effectively mitigate the ASR expansion of GA mortars. Compared with the size of 28.3 μm, GA mortars containing GP (47.9 μm) always obtain higher compressive strength. In particular, when applying the 1-day water curing at 80 °C, GA mortars containing GP (47.9 μm) can even gain higher strength than those containing fly ash.  相似文献

The superplastic tensile test was carried out on SP700 (Ti-4.5Al-3V-2Mo-2Fe) titanium alloy sheet at 760 °C by the method of maximum m value, and the microstructure characteristics were investigated to understand the deformation mechanism. The results indicated that the examined alloy showed an extremely fine grain size of ~1.3 μm and an excellent superplasticity with fracture elongation of up to 3000%. The grain size and the volume fraction of the β phase increased as the strain increased, accompanied by the elements’ diffusion. The β-stabilizing elements (Mo, Fe, and V) were mainly dissolved within the β phase and diffused from α to β phase furthermore during deformation. The increase in strain leads to the accumulation of dislocations, which results in the increase in the proportion of low angle grain boundaries by 15%. As the deformation process, the crystal of α grains rotated, and the texture changed, accompanied by the accumulation of dislocations. The phase boundary (α/β) sliding accommodated by dislocation slip was the predominant mechanism for SP700 alloy during superplastic deformation.  相似文献
