Vaginal infection with the mouse pneumonitis agent of Chlamydia trachomatis (MoPn) produces shorter courses of infection in C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice than in C3H/HeN mice, while C57BL/6 mice are more resistant to oviduct pathology. A robust Th1 response is extremely important in host defense against chlamydia. In this study we examined gamma interferon (IFN-gamma), interleukin 10 (IL-10), and the T-cell-regulatory chemokines macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha (MIP-1alpha) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) to determine if differences in these responses were associated with the differential courses of infection seen in these three strains of mice. Increased and prolonged IFN-gamma responses and lower IL-10 responses were observed in the C57BL/6 strain compared to BALB/c and C3H. Examination of genital tract chemokines revealed a marked predominance of MIP-1alpha over MCP-1 only in the C57 strain. Thus, a pattern of high MIP-1alpha and low MCP-1 levels during the first week of infection is associated with an increased Th1 response and a shorter, more benign chlamydial infection. Inhibition of the MCP-1 response in C3H mice increased their later T-cell production of IFN-gamma but decreased their early IFN-gamma response and had no effect on the course or outcome of infection. Inhibition of MCP-1 is not beneficial in chlamydial infection because of its pleiotropic effects.  相似文献

In the nonobese diabetic (NOD) mouse, the T helper (Th)1-type inflammatory cytokines interferon (IFN)-gamma and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha play a critical role in the development of type 1 diabetes, whereas the Th2-type anti-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-10 operate counterregulatory. There are no comprehensive analyses on cytokine profiles in the mouse model of diabetes induced with multiple low doses of streptozotocin (MLD-STZ). Therefore, we used islets to study ex vivo effects of MLD-STZ and in vitro effects of STZ on IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, IL-4, and IL-10 on both levels of protein-producing cells and the mRNA expression, as well as the mRNA expression of the Th3-type cytokine transforming growth factor TGF-beta1. C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice of both genders were injected intraperitoneally with 40 mg/kg body wt STZ on five consecutive days and islets were isolated on day I and 3 after the fifth STZ-injection. Control mice received the solvent of STZ. In islets of C57BL/6 mice of both genders MLD-STZ similarly stimulated production of IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha, but significantly reduced IL-4 and IL-10 levels in male mice only. Opposite results were obtained in islets of BALB/c mice of both genders. Here, MLD-STZ markedly decreased the levels of IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha, but significantly increased the levels of IL-4 and IL-10. The functional results were in line with MLD-STZ effects on the mRNA expression of the cytokines. Moreover, MLD-STZ effects on the TGF-beta1 mRNA expression were reversed to the effects on IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha. The in vitro effects of STZ in islets, in general, were similar to those exerted by MLD-STZ. Apparently, reduction and upregulation of Th2-type cytokines was more associated with susceptibility and resistance, respectively, to MLD-STZ-induced diabetes than upregulation of Th1-type cytokine levels.  相似文献

We investigated the kinetics of tissue-specific mRNA expression and systemic production of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and the kinetics of splenic expression of mRNAs of gamma interferon (INF-gamma) and interleukin-4 (IL-4), cytokines that may regulate TNF-alpha production, during the early phase of blood-stage infection with Plasmodium chabaudi AS. Northern blot analysis revealed that resistant C57BL/6 mice, which clear the infection by 4 weeks, had higher levels of TNF-alpha mRNA in the spleen and liver early during infection that did susceptible A/J mice, which succumb to the disease 10 days after initiation of infection. Treatment of resistant mice with a polyclonal anti-TNF-alpha antibody confirmed the protective role of TNF-alpha early during the course of infection. Furthermore, resistant C57BL/6 mice also expressed high levels of mRNA of IFN-gamma (a Th1 marker) and low levels of mRNA of IL-4 (a Th2 marker) in the spleen, whereas susceptible A/J mice had low levels of IFN-gamma mRNA but high levels of TNF-alpha mRNA in the liver and had high levels of TNF-alpha protein in serum, as measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, later during infection just before death occurred. These results demonstrate that a Th1-associated increase in TNF-alpha mRNA expression in the spleen early during infection correlates with resistance to P. chabaudi AS, whereas increased TNF-alpha mRNA levels in the liver and excessive levels of the TNF-alpha protein in serum later during infection correlate with susceptibility. Thus, the role of the TNF-alpha during malaria appears to depend on the timing and site of its expression and the presence of cytokines regulating its production.  相似文献

Inoculation of Trypanosoma cruzi, Tulahuén strain, into C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice led to an acute infection characterized by marked parasitaemia, myocardial inflammation and thymocyte depletion. While C57BL/6 mice showed a progressive and lethal disease, BALB/c mice partly recovered. To characterize these murine models more effectively, we studied the parasite burden, serum levels of major infection outcome-related cytokines, the in vitro features of T. cruzi infection in peritoneal macrophages and the immunophenotype of thymic cells. The greater disease severity of T. cruzi-infected C57BL/6 mice was not linked to an increased parasite load, as parasitaemia, myocardial parasite nests and amastigote counts in peritoneal macrophages were not different from those in BALB/c mice. Cortical thymocyte loss was accompanied by the presence of apoptotic bodies and fragmented nuclear DNA, whereas fluorocytometric analysis at 17 days postinfection (p.i.) revealed a more pronounced loss of CD4+ CD8+ cells in C57BL/6 mice. This group displayed higher levels of TNF-alpha on days 14 and 21 p.i., in the presence of lower IL-1beta and IL-10 concentrations by days 14 and 21, and days 7 and 14 p.i., respectively. Day-21 evaluation showed higher concentrations of nitrate and TNF-alpha soluble receptors in C57BL/6 mice with no differences in IFN-gamma levels, with respect to the BALB/c group. Increased morbidity of C57BL/6 T. cruzi-infected mice does not seem to result from an aggravated infection but from an unbalanced relationship between pro- and anti-inflammatory mediators.  相似文献

In this study, we expand on the examination of genetically determined differences in host responses that correlate with clearance of Chlamydia trachomatis from the genital tract. We infected C57BL/6, BALB/c, and C3H/HeN mice with the mouse pneumonitis agent of C. trachomatis (MoPn). C57BL/6 mice had the shortest course of infection (22 days) and the lowest incidence of severe hydrosalpinx. BALB/c mice also had a short course of infection (25 days), but all developed hydrosalpinx. C3H/HeN mice had the longest course of infection (38 days), and all developed severe hydrosalpinx. Determination of local cytokine responses by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) of genital tract secretions revealed that the levels of the proinflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) were significantly increased in the C57BL/6 and BALB/c strains compared to those in the C3H/HeN strain whereas the level of IL-6 was not different. The level of the neutrophil chemokine macrophage inflammatory protein 2 (MIP-2) was increased during the first week of infection in all three strains but was significantly higher in the BALB/c strain, the strain with the most rapid influx of neutrophils into the genital tract. Prolonged detection of MIP-2 in C3H/HeN mice was associated with a protracted presence of neutrophils in the genital tract. Early increases in the levels of the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-1beta are associated with earlier eradication of infection in the C57BL/6 and BALB/c strains than in the C3H/HeN strain. Increased levels of MIP-2 and neutrophils in BALB/c and C3H/HeN mice relative to C57BL/6 mice suggest that these responses may contribute to pathology.  相似文献

The cilium-associated respiratory (CAR) bacillus is a gram-negative, gliding bacterium that causes persistent respiratory tract infections in rodents despite histologic and serologic evidence of a marked immune response. To assess humoral immunity and cytokine responses in CAR bacillus disease, 6-week-old female BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice were inoculated intratracheally with 10(5) CAR bacillus organisms. CAR bacillus-specific serum immunoglobulins (immunoglobulin M [IgM], IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b, IgG3, and IgA) and local pulmonary cytokines (tumor necrosis factor alpha [TNF-alpha], gamma interferon [IFN-gamma], and interleukin-4 [IL-4]) were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay every 7 days for 49 days. BALB/c mice developed CAR bacillus-induced lesions early in the course of disease that became more severe with time. Correlating with increasing disease severity, BALB/c mice had elevations in all antibody isotypes tested, and elevations in pulmonary TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma, and IL-4. C57BL/6 mice developed mild lesions with mild increases in serum IgM, IgG1, IgG2b, and IgG3 levels and minimally detectable IgG2a and IgA. Cytokine perturbations were not detected in C57BL/6 mice. The persistence of infection in BALB/c mice with vigorous serum antibody responses and increased IFN-gamma and IL-4 responses suggests that humoral immunity and T-cell responses are ineffective at preventing CAR bacillus disease. Furthermore, the lackluster antibody responses and undetectable cytokine responses in C57BL/6 mice suggest that humoral immunity and T-cell responses are not critical in resistance to CAR bacillus-induced disease.  相似文献

Differential aspects of the host immune response generated by Trypanosoma cruzi infection were examined in two different mouse strains, BALB/c (haplotype H2-Kd) which does not overcome the acute phase of the infection and C57BL/6 (haplotype H2-Kb) which survives to the acute phase. After infection an increase in CD3+ T cells was observed in both mouse strains in the peritoneal cavity. However, while the CD3+ T cells from the BALB/c mice showed an increase in the IL-4 cytokine expression level, the same type of cells from the C57BL/6 mice showed an increase in IFN-gamma expression. In addition, only the macrophages from the C57BL/6 mice were activated secreting IL-12 and TNF-alpha and producing, moreover, high levels of nitrites. It was observed that also after parasite infection the expression of macrophage and dendritic cells CD40 and CD86 co-stimulation molecules from the spleen were diminished in BALB/c but not in C57BL/6 mice. In correlation with this observation the macrophages from the spleen of infected BALB/c mice secreted lower concentrations of nitrites than the C57BL/6 mouse cells. Also, the spleen dendritic cells from infected BALB/c mice had a small potential to present alloantigens in contrast to that observed in the infected C57BL/6 mouse cells.  相似文献

Leishmania major-infected C57BL / 6 skin-dendritic cells (DC) are activated and release cytokines (including IL-12 p70), and likely initiate protective Th1 immunity in vivo (von Stebut, E. et al., J. Exp. Med. 188: 1547 - 1552). To characterize differences in DC function in mice that are genetically susceptible (BALB / c) and resistant (C57BL / 6) to cutaneous leishmaniasis, we analyzed the effects of L. major on Langerhans cell-like, fetal skin-derived DC (FSDDC) from both strains. BALB / c- and C57BL / 6-FSDDC ingested similar numbers of amastigotes, but did not ingest metacyclic promastigotes. Like C57BL / 6-FSDDC, infection of BALB / c-FSDDC led to up-regulation of MHC class I and II antigens, CD40, CD54, and CD86 within 18 h. L. major-induced BALB / c DC activation also led to the release of TNF-alpha, IL-6 and IL-12 p40 into 18-h supernatants. Infected BALB / c- and C57BL / 6-DC both released small amounts of IL-12 p70 within 72 h. Additional stimulation with IFN-gamma and / or anti-CD40 induced the release of more IL-12 p70 from infected BALB / c-DC than C57BL / 6-DC. Co-culture of control or infected BALB / c- and C57BL / 6-DC with naive syngeneic CD4(+) T cells and soluble anti-CD3 resulted in mixed, IFN-gamma-predominant responses after restimulation with immobilized anti-CD3. Finally, syngeneic L. major-infected DC effectively vaccinated BALB / c mice against cutaneous leishmaniasis. Genetic susceptibility to L. major that results from induction of Th2 predominant immune responses after infection does not appear to reflect failure of skin DC to internalize or respond to parasites, or the inability of BALB / c T cells to mount a Th1 response to DC-associated Leishmania antigens.  相似文献

Helicobacter heilmannii is a gastric micro-organism that can induce gastritis and B-cell MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma in mice, in a host-dependent manner. The present study was designed to examine gastric lesions and immune responses caused by intragastric H. heilmannii infection of an inbred mouse strain, C57BL/6. Long-term infection led to the formation of gastric nodules and increased mucosal thickness of the stomach, due to gastric epithelial proliferation. Infection also induced the formation of lymphoid follicles in the corpus mucosa and submucosa. The follicular cells were mainly CD45R+ cells that did not produce immunoglobulin. However, scattered in the lamina propria and corpus submucosa, numerous IgA+ cells were found in infected mice, but not in control mice. RT-PCR results showed that H. heilmannii infection led to increased mRNA expression for IFN-gamma (a Th1 cytokine) and IL-10 (a Th2 cytokine) in the mouse stomach, suggesting that both Th1 and Th2 responses are associated with H. heilmannii infection. The mRNA of other cytokines and chemokines (IL-1beta, IL-12p40, TNF-alpha, MCP-1, KC and MIP-2) was also increased by infection.  相似文献

To test the effect of genotype on immune response, C57BL/6 and DBA/2 mice were sensitized with aluminum hydroxide gel (alum)-precipitated ovalbumin (OVA) and challenged with aerosolized OVA. The serum immunoglobulin (Ig) E and IgG1 levels in C57BL/6 mice were higher than those in DBA/2 mice. In contrast, IgG2a levels in C57BL/6 mice were lower than that in DBA/2 mice. C57BL/6 mice were also much more susceptible than DBA/2 mice to OVA-induced pulmonary eosinophilia. Furthermore, patterns of cytokine generation in lung tissue were different between C57BL/6 and DBA/2 mice after OVA challenge. Th2-type cytokine interleukin (IL-) 4 and IL-5 generation in C57BL/6 mice was higher than that in DBA/2 mice, while Thl-type cytokine interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) generation in C57BL/6 mice was lower than that in DBA/2 mice. Similar patterns of IL-4 and IL-5, and IFN-gamma production in splenocytes from both strains after OVA stimulation in vitro were also observed. The participation of IL-4 and IL-5, and IFN-gamma in the regulation of eosinophil infiltration into the lung was confirmed by injection of anti-IL-5, -IL-4 and -IFN-gamma monoclonal antibodies. These results indicate that C57BL/6 mice preferentially induce IL-4 and IL-5-mediated Th2-type response, while DBA/2 mice induce IFN-gamma-mediated Thl-type response. Thus, the genotype of laboratory strains partially determines whether Th1- or Th2-type immune responses are elicited.  相似文献

Infection of different strains of mice with Mycobacterium avium has revealed genetic control of the immunoglobulin isotype induced and of the balance between Th1 and Th2 cytokines. Female BALB/c or C57BL/10 mice were infected intranasally with 10(5) M. avium organisms. The antibody response was measured over 18 weeks by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blotting, while numbers of cytokine-producing cells were assessed at 12 to 15 weeks by ELISPOT assay. Upon infection, C57BL/10 mice produced a clear Th1 response with strong gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) production, no interleukin-4 (IL-4), and almost entirely immunoglobulin G2a (IgG2a) antibody. In contrast, BALB/c mice developed T cells producing IL-4, as well as those producing IFN-gamma, while the antibody response was a mixture of IgG1 and IgG2a. Antibodies from BALB/c mice were also able to recognize a greater range of antigens than were C56BL/10 mice. B10D2 mice, which carry the BALB/c major histocompatibility complex haplotype on a C57BL/10 background, followed the C57BL/10 cytokine pattern. Mice infected with Listeria monocytogenes did not show a similar response dichotomy.  相似文献

After primary immunization with myelin/oligodendrocyte glycoprotein, CD28(-/-) mice developed experimental autoimmune meningitis (EAM) rather than experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Cytokine and chemokine production in EAE and EAM were compared to understand the differences in disease phenotype. T cells from the central nervous system lesions of mice with either EAE or EAM expressed intracellular TNF-alpha. Splenic T cells from mice with EAM produced TNF-alpha and IL-6 but no IL-2. Conversely, EAE-derived splenic T cells produced TNF-alpha and IL-2 but no IL-6. Altered T cell differentiation in EAM was not due to a Th1 to Th2 shift, because equivalent amounts of T cell IFN-gamma mRNA were produced in both diseases. Neutrophils also produced inflammatory mediators such as TNF-alpha and IL-6 in EAM. Autocrine production of MIP-2 mRNA was observed in neutrophils from mice with EAM but not EAE. Therefore, distinct patterns of cytokines and chemokines distinguish EAE and EAM.  相似文献

To investigate the effect of antigen dose on immune response, C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice were sensitized with aluminum hydroxide gel (alum)-precipitated ovalbumin (OVA) then challenged with aerosolized OVA. Low-dose sensitization (less than 8 microg of OVA) elicited T helper 2 (Th2)-type immunoglobulins (Igs) secretion from C57BL/6 mice, including high levels of serum IgE, IgG1 and low levels of IgG2a, while BALB/c mice secreted T helper 1 (Th1)-type Igs, including low levels of IgE, IgG1 and high levels of IgG2a. In contrast, high-dose sensitization (more than 50 microgram) elicited Th1-type Igs secretion in C57BL/6mice, while BALB/c mice exhibited Th2-type Igs secretion. Furthermore, the number of eosinophils infiltrating into the lungs of low-dose OVA-sensitized C57BL/6 mice was significantly greater than in BALB/c mice sensitized with the same amount of OVA. Only a very high dose of OVA (1 mg) could induce greater eosinophil infiltration into the lungs of BALB/c mice compared with C57BL/6 mice. Additionally, low-dose sensitization generated Th2-type cytokines, including high levels of interleukin (IL) -4, IL-5 and a low level of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) in the lungs of C57BL/6 mice, while BALB/c mice generated Th1-type cytokines in their lungs, including low levels of IL-4, IL-5 and a high level of IFN-gamma. In contrast, high-dose sensitization elicited Th1-type cytokines production in the lungs of C57BL/6 mice, while BALB/c mice generated Th2-type cytokines in their lungs. Interestingly, splenocyte cultures from C57BL/6 mice produced Th1-type cytokines, while cultures from BALB/c mice produced Th2-type cytokines regardless of OVA sensitization dose (100 ng-1 mg). These results indicate that C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice have different susceptibilities to OVA-sensitization and OVA-induced pulmonary eosinophilia regulated by Th1- and Th2-type cytokines, independent of splenic Th1- and Th2-type cytokines production.  相似文献

BALB/c mice are susceptible to progressive infection with Leishmania major due to the preferential development of CD4(+) T cells that secrete Th2 cytokines. Although Th2 cell development and susceptibility are disrupted by blockade of CD86 function early in infection, CD28-deficient BALB/c mice remain susceptible to leishmaniasis. We therefore examined whether the alternative CD86 ligand, CTLA4, contributes to the expression of susceptibility. BALB/c mice treated for 2 weeks of infection with anti-CTLA4 monoclonal antibody developed more rapidly progressive disease than sham-treated mice, whereas normally resistant C57BL/6 mice were unaffected. The draining lymph node cells of anti-CTLA4-treated BALB/c mice produced up to sixfold more interleukin-4 (IL-4) and IL-13 than control mice in the first 2 weeks of infection, but IFN-gamma synthesis was reciprocally decreased. Anti-CTLA4 treatment of BALB/c mice pretreated with neutralizing anti-IL-4 antibody or genetically deficient in IL-4 also caused significant worsening of leishmaniasis. Exacerbation in IL-4 KO mice was associated with increased IL-13 and decreased gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) mRNA expression in vivo. These data indicate that anti-CTLA4 antibody induced earlier and more-polarized Th2 responses in susceptible BALB/c mice infected with L. major. The mechanism of disease worsening was partially IL-4 independent, indicating that increased IL-13 and/or decreased IFN-gamma production may have disrupted nitric oxide-based microbicidal responses. We conclude that CTLA4 significantly modulates Th2 development in murine leishmaniasis and that the Th2-polarizing effects of anti-CTLA4 treatment result in IL-4-independent exacerbation of disease.  相似文献

Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is essential to resistance to Trypanosoma cruzi infection because it stimulates the synthesis of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) that activates macrophages to a parasiticidal effect. Investigation of mice deprived of IL-12 genes (IL-12 knockout mice) has confirmed the important role of IL-12 and IFN-gamma in controlling parasitism in T. cruzi infection. However, it has not yet been addressed whether a shift towards a T helper type 2 (Th2) pattern of cytokine response occurred in these mice that might have contributed to the aggravation of the infection caused by IL-12 deprivation. We examined the course of T. cruzi (Y strain) infection and the regulation of cytokine responses and nitric oxide production in C57BL/6 IL-12 p40-knockout mice. The mutant mice were extremely susceptible to the infection as evidenced by increased parasitaemia, tissue parasitism and mortality in comparison with the control C57BL/6 mouse strain (wild-type) that is resistant to T. cruzi. A severe depletion of parasite-antigen-specific IFN-gamma response, without an increase in IL-4 or IL-10 production, accompanied by reduced levels of nitric oxide production was observed in IL-12 knockout mice. We found no evidence of a shift towards a Th2-type cytokine response. In IL-12 knockout mice, the residual IFN-gamma production is down-regulated by IL-10 but not by IL-4 and nitric oxide production is stimulated by tumour necrosis factor-alpha. Parasite-specific immunoglobulin G1 antibody levels were similar in IL-12 knockout and wild-type mice, whereas IL-12 knockout mice had much higher levels of immunoglobulin G2b.  相似文献

Neutrophils are generally considered to contribute to host defense through their potent microbicidal activity. However, there is accumulating evidence that neutrophils also have an important regulatory role in establishing the balance of Th1 and Th2 responses. This study investigated the role of neutrophils in defense against pulmonary Cryptococcus neoformans infection using neutrophil-depleted BALB/c mice generated by administering mAb RB6-8C5. Neutropenic mice with pulmonary infection survived significantly longer than control mice, but there was no difference between groups infected intravenously. On day 1 of infection, neutropenic mice had significantly smaller fungal burdens than control mice. On day 7, neutropenic mice had significantly higher lung concentrations of IL-10, TNF-alpha, IL-4, and IL-12 than control mice, but there was no difference in IFN-gamma and MCP-1 levels. Neutrophils influenced the outcome of cryptococcal infection in mice through mechanisms that did not involve a reduction in early fungal burden. The absence of neutrophils in lung tissue during the initial stages of infection appeared to alter the inflammatory response in a manner that was subsequently beneficial to the host. Higher levels of Th1- and Th2-associated cytokines in neutropenic mice could have simultaneously promoted a strong cellular response while reducing inflammatory damage to the lung. Our results support the emerging concept that neutrophils play an important function in modulating the development of the immune response.  相似文献

The current study was designed to investigate the impact of genetic heterogeneity on host immune responses to pulmonary intracellular infection by using two mouse strains of distinct genetic background, C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice, and a model intracellular pathogen, Mycobacterium bovis BCG. Upon infection, compared to C57BL/6 mice, BALB/c mice developed an earlier response of interleukin 12 (IL-12), gamma interferon (IFN-gamma), tumor necrosis factor alpha, and macrophage chemoattractive protein 1, and greater neutrophilic influx to the lung by days 7 and 14. However, the level of these cytokines at days 27, 43, and 71 was much lower in BALB/c mice than in C57BL/6 mice. The magnitude of cellular responses was also much lower in the lung of BALB/c mice around day 27. Histologically, while C57BL/6 mice developed lymphocytic granulomas, BALB/c mice displayed atypical granulomas in the lung. Of importance, the level of type 2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-10 remained low and similar in the lung of both C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice throughout. Furthermore, lymphocytes isolated from systemic and local lymphoid tissues of infected BALB/c mice demonstrated a markedly lower antigen-specific IFN-gamma recall response. While the number of mycobacterial bacilli recovered from both the lung and spleen of BALB/c mice was similar to that in C57BL/6 mice at day 14, it was higher than that in C57BL/6 mice at day 43. However, it was eventually leveled off to that in C57BL/6 counterparts later. These results suggest the following: (i) genetic heterogeneity can lead to differential innate and adaptive cell-mediated immune responses to primary pulmonary mycobacterial infection; (ii) it is the level of adaptive, but not innate, immune response that is critical to host resistance; and (iii) a lower type 1 immune response in BALB/c mice is not accompanied by a heightened type 2 response during pulmonary mycobacterial infection.  相似文献
