Maternal mind-mindedness, or the tendency to view the child as a mental agent, has been shown to predict sensitive and responsive parenting behavior. As yet the role of mind-mindedness has not been explored in the context of feeding interactions. This study evaluates the relations between maternal mind-mindedness at 6 months of infant age and subsequently observed maternal sensitivity and feeding behaviors with children at age 1 year. Maternal mind-mindedness was greater in mothers who had breast-fed compared to formula-fed. Controlling for breast-feeding, mind-mindedness at 6 months was correlated with observations of more sensitive and positive feeding behaviors at 1 year of age. Mind-mindedness was also associated with greater general maternal sensitivity in play and this general parenting sensitivity mediated the effect of mind-mindedness on more sensitive and positive feeding behaviors. Interventions to promote maternal tendency to consider their child’s mental states may encourage more adaptive parental feeding behaviors.  相似文献

Sleep problems affect 20%–30% of toddlers and preschoolers. Few longitudinal studies focused on the impact of infant feeding practices on sleep. We aimed to study the associations between feeding practices up to 8 months and trajectories of sleep quantity or quality from 2 to 5–6 years. Analyses included 1,028 children from the EDEN mother–child cohort. Data were collected by self‐administered questionnaires. Associations between feeding practices (breastfeeding, complementary feeding, use of thickened infant formula, night feeding) and sleep trajectories (sleep‐onset difficulties, night waking, nighttime in bed) were analysed by multiple logistic regressions. Predominant breastfeeding for more than 4 months was associated with lower risk for belonging to the persistent sleep‐onset difficulties trajectory. Night feeding at 4 months or at 2 years old was associated with higher risk for belonging to the persistent sleep‐onset difficulties trajectory, and night feeding at 8 months was associated with higher risk for night waking and higher risk for short nighttime in bed. Early introduction (< 4 months) to complementary foods (excluding baby cereals) was related to lower risk for short nighttime in bed. Use of baby cereals or thickened infant formula was related neither to sleep quality nor to sleep quantity. In conclusion, infant feeding practices are associated with sleep trajectories in preschoolers, with notably a potential protective role of breastfeeding. Further researches are needed to clarify the mechanisms of these relationships.  相似文献

According to PAHO and WHO, supplementary feeding is the process that begins when human milk is insufficient to meet the nutritional needs of an infant and requires other foods and liquids. The decision to begin complementary feeding depends on socio-economic, physiological, nutritional and psychological factors. The maturation of the neuromuscular, gastrointestinal and renal system influences the chances of success of supplementary feeding. Reflexes and skills in a child with normal development can be expected and the consistency of foods can provide a way to, on one hand allow the ingestion of food and the other to allow the children to exercise their reflexes to enhance neuromuscular maturation. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding promotion to six months, as there are several benefits to mother and child; in Mexico, the NOM-043-SSA2-2005 promotes complementary feeding from 6 months. It should be noted that the order of introduction is not definitive and that the literature shows different patterns of input according to the needs of children and their socio-economic and cultural environment. Parents and caregivers select and buy food, model, and establish rules of behavior at home related to food. Evidence suggest that environmental factors acting at an early stage of development of small modeling preferences and eating behaviors.  相似文献

We report the effects of zinc deficiency on normal feeding behavior in rats and the effects of zinc deficiency on stress-induced eating in rats. Zinc deficient (ZD) rats weighed significantly less than their pair-fed and ad lib controls. Zinc repletion allowed improved growth, but ZD rats never displayed catch-up growth compared to their ad lib controls. ZD rats rapidly developed a depressed food efficiency ratio which normalized with zinc supplementation. Food consumption in ZD rats was approximately one-third that of ad lib controls and water intake was also significantly reduced. Mild tail pinch was able to induce feeding in these normally anorexic ZD rats. We conclude that zinc deficiency represents an interesting model of anorexia which may enhance our understanding of appetite regulation.  相似文献

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and related compounds increase short-term feeding. Previous studies have used different animal models, feeding schedules, sources of the compounds, and time and routes of administration. These differences in methodology are important in the variability reported on the potency of NPY-related compounds. To obtain reliable data on the relative efficacy, we tested NPY, NPY 3-36, and pancreatic polypeptide (PP) using an identical protocol and the same commercial source. These three NPY-related compounds were tested using the intracerebroventricular (i.c.v., into the third ventricle) administration, and the profile of the feeding enhancement including the dose response and potency was determined. Compounds were tested in parallel on at least 2 successive days. NPY, NPY 3-36, and PP exhibited different potencies in enhancing 2-h food intake. Comparison of their dose responses (using 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, and 5.0 microg/rat) demonstrated an overall potency of NPY 3-36 > NPY > PP for the high doses. To study ligand interactions, we examined the effects of various combinations of NPY-related compounds administered concomitantly. These combinations were justified based on the data obtained from the individual dose responses. The data show that the effects of NPY plus NPY 3-36 or NPY 3-36 plus PP were less than additive. When compared to the individual responses, the effects of NPY 3-36 were almost identical to those induced by the combinations using low doses of NPY plus NPY 3-36, or low and high doses of PP plus NPY 3-36. The results support the notion that NPY and its analogues induce a short-term feeding response by activating multiple receptor subtypes.  相似文献
