Two primary outlets for community psychology research, the American Journal of Community Psychology and the Journal of Community Psychology, were assessed to rank institutions based on publication frequency and scientific influence of publications over a 32‐year period. Three specific periods were assessed (1973–1983, 1984–1994, 1995–2004). Findings indicate that there were a large group of institutions that published articles during these periods. Those academic institutions that had the most published articles as well as the largest influence, based on citations by other authors, were identified. Using archival data from the community psychology literature represents one approach for identifying those settings that made substantial contributions to the development and growth of the field. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Articles about women's issues published in the American Journal of Community Psychology and Journal of Community Psychology, from their inception in 1973 through 2000 were examined for feminist content. Feminism was defined as including consciousness of gender issues, gender‐stratified power imbalances, and contextual analyses of gender. We identified 89 articles with feminist content. All 89 feminist articles were examined to identify themes of gender consciousness and intersecting identities. Within the theme of gender consciousness, we identified articles that addressed power asymmetries, the link between individuals and environments, contextual analyses, and a focus on competencies. Within the theme of intersecting identities, we identified articles that addressed race, class, sexual orientation, and disabilities. We discuss the trend toward more feminist research and explore ways create a feminist subdiscipline within the field of community psychology. Finally, we discuss recommendations for future feminist scholarship in the field. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Comm Psychol 31: 189–209, 2003.  相似文献

The current study uses social network analysis to explore one aspect of cross‐disciplinary connections in community psychology–citations from articles published in community psychology's main journals (i.e., American Journal of Community Psychology and Journal of Community Psychology ) to allied disciplines in 2009. Results indicate that although community psychology journals cited a wide range of disciplines, their levels of citation to any individual journal in another discipline never exceeded 10% of their total network citations. Additionally, journals in other disciplines did not exhibit many citations to community psychology journals. Observed homophily measures indicate that community psychology journals have more cross‐disciplinary citations than articles published in the flagship journals of clinical psychology, sociology, and public health. However, relative homophily measures suggest that community psychology journals are also far more likely to cite within discipline than expected by chance. Implications and future directions for cross‐disciplinary endeavors in community psychology are suggested.  相似文献

The purpose of this survey was to examine the extent to which community psychology has committed itself to one of its original missions: to foster cultural relativity and diversity. Content analyses were conducted of all articles published in the American Journal of Community Psychology, Community Mental Health Journal, and the Journal of Community Psychology from the journals' inception through 1985. Of all articles published, 13% furthered the goals of cultural diversity, and 86% did not. Further breakdown revealed that 5.5% of the articles were on a single U.S. ethnic minority group, 5% compared an ethnic minority group(s) to Whites, 2% were on an international cultural group, and .5% compared two or more ethnic minority groups to each other. Compared to CMHJ, a higher proportion of articles published in AJCP and JCP were devoted to cultural diversity. Greater attention has been given to the study of Blacks and Hispanics/Puerto Ricans than to Asian Americans or Native Americans. For all journals combined, there was an overall increase in the proportion of articles devoted to cultural diversity and ethnicity over time. Still, 5% to 11% was considered short of the proportion of ethnic minorities in the United States (over 20%), leading the researchers to conclude that progress has been made, but more needs to be done.  相似文献

To assess the scope of analyses of social power in community psychology (CP), we examined articles published in the American Journal of Community Psychology and Journal of Community Psychology from their inception in 1973 through 2010 for reference to the concept “power.” We discovered two historical points, 30 years apart, where power gained attention: early in the development of the field as it moved away from individualized notions of mental health and more recently as attention has shifted toward psycho‐political considerations. Despite the belief that power has been neglected in favor of its linguistic relative, “empowerment,” we found that scholarship spanned ecological levels, including individual (e.g., empowerment, referent power, and citizen participation), group (e.g., communities and organizations/institutions), and structural (e.g., macro concepts and marginalized statuses) analyses. By synthesizing scholarship on power in CP, we can provide a foundation from which to expand the field and effect social change.  相似文献

Ongoing inquiry into the characteristics of published work and its synergy with community psychology's core principles is an important reflexive endeavour in the field's continuing development. This study examined topic and method trends within the Journal of Community Psychology during a 5‐year period (January 2003–December 2007). Content analyses were conducted on published abstracts during this period (N=242). Most articles were empirical studies (61.2%) and most used a positivist methodology (53.7%). Samples mainly comprised adults and were mixed in terms of gender and ethnic/religious affiliation. The most frequent topics were mental health and mental illness (33.5%), sense of community and social support (24.4%), and dynamics of social exclusion (22.7%). A large proportion of special issues was also noted. These results illustrate contemporary trends in community psychology and suggest that critical and participatory methods as well as socially transformative epistemologies continue to be under‐represented within the field. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To empirically examine whether research published in the Journal of Pediatric Psychology (JPP) guides research both within and outside the field of pediatric psychology. METHODS: Articles published in JPP from 2000 to 2004 were evaluated to determine the frequency with which articles in JPP from 2000 influenced subsequent research. Citation rates by other journals were also examined. RESULTS: Articles in JPP from 2000 were frequently cited in subsequent research, but authors rarely cited previous research as being instrumental in the development of their study design. Articles in JPP from 2000 were also frequently cited by outside journals. Specifically, journals classified as "medical and medical subspecialties" had the highest rates of citing JPP articles. CONCLUSIONS: The finding that JPP is cited both within JPP and other journals provides further evidence that pediatric psychology is a thriving interdisciplinary field.  相似文献

The dual aims of this article are to examine the research on organizations within community psychology and to explore the discourse around organization studies within the field. To that end, we turn to two questions first posed by Keys and Frank: “What does community psychology contribute to the study of organizations?” and “What does the study of organizations contribute to community psychology?” Through a content analysis of all organizational studies published in the American Journal of Community Psychology and Journal of Community Psychology from 1977 through the end of 2000, we found that organization constructs and theories are not widely utilized by community psychologists. When community psychologists did explore organizational issues the focus was on community psychology tenets such as social support, empowerment, stress and coping, and sense of community within organization contexts. The use of organization theory was found to be almost nonexistent. Although a bridge between the two fields is tentative at this point, we argue for a strengthening of the relationship between the fields. Community psychology can offer a focus on the well‐being of people via conceptualization of the tenets of community psychology in organizational contexts. The organization studies literature can aid the community psychologist with its more recent focus on worker‐oriented approaches, and with the macrooriented theory base of the field. Suggestions are offered to expand the boundaries of both fields. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

This article introduces the issue of Journal of Clinical Psychology: In Session entitled “Beyond Meditation: Mindfulness‐Related Clinical Practices.” In the article, I describe how the “sisters of mindfulness”–forgiveness, gratitude, loving‐kindness, compassion, acceptance, and best‐self visualization–are each interconnected and important forms of mindfulness as well as tenets of Buddhist psychology. Each of these practices reflect mental strengths that are being integrated into the brain's neuroplastic development as a function of modern day psychotherapy.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine how well therapeutic randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in the Journal of Pediatric Psychology (JPP) met the CONSORT criteria as compared to pediatric trials in the Journal of Clinical and Consulting Psychology (JCCP), which served as a control. METHODS: Nine trials were found in JPP and 19 clinical trials were retrieved from JCCP. The modified Consort Checklist and Flow Chart was applied to each trial by two unblinded independent raters. RESULTS: The number of CONSORT items not reported between the two journals was strikingly similar. One half (11/22) of the CONSORT items were reported less than 25% of the time. Information provided on the flow of participants in the trials was similar across the two journals; however, JCCP more often reported on those assessed to be eligible overall, chi(2) = 5.241, p <.05. JPP reported on recruitment 33.3% of the time, while it was not reported at all in JCCP, chi(2) = 7.093, p <.05. CONCLUSIONS: Although many of the items in the CONSORT statement were not adhered to by the two psychological journals, most of the CONSORT items can clearly be applied to psychosocial trials.  相似文献

Considering the contents of international journals of parasitology dealing with broader topics inside this field show that rather a few papers appear with studies in the discipline of arachno-entomology. In the journals Journal of Parasitology, Parasitology Research and Trends in Parasitology, the relations of published papers on protozoology, helminthology and arachno-entomology showed that in all three journals, papers on protozoans were the most common, while those on helminths of any kind reached the second place being rather as common as the protozoan papers in Parasitology Research and in the Journal of Parasitology. In Trends of Parasitology, however, the papers on helminths reached only about 25% of the numbers published on protozoan topics. But in all three journals—and this is important—the papers on arachno-entomological themes were scarce reaching less than the half of the protozoan papers in Parasitology Research, and only about 15% in the Journal of Parasitology and in the Trends of Parasitology. These disproportions between the three great subdivisions of targets in the focus of parasitological research are dangerous, since this lack exists already for several decades and thus led to a backlog of unsolved increasing problems that are caused by ticks, mites, insects and/or parasitic crustaceans especially in times of intensive globalization and global warming. Studies on the biology, vectorship, invasion and spreading of wanted vectors and on the control of pests and parasites belonging to the field of arachno-entomology are urgently needed.  相似文献

During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, publications on the disease have exploded globally. The present study analyzed PubMed and KoreaMed indexed COVID-19 publications by Korean researchers from January 1, 2020 to August 19, 2021. A total of 83,549 COVID-19 articles were recorded in PubMed and 1,875 of these were published by Korean authors in 673 journals (67 Korean and 606 overseas journals). The KoreaMed platform covered 766 articles on COVID-19, including 612 by Korean authors. Among the Journal of Korean Medical Science (JKMS) articles on COVID-19, PubMed covered 176 and KoreaMed 141 documents. Korean researchers contributed to 2.2% of global publications on COVID-19 in PubMed. The JKMS has published most articles on COVID-19 in Korea.  相似文献

Where we publish
Pathologists provide the link between the clinical and the natural science aspect of medicine and are often integrated in translational research projects. We wanted to analyse the spread and position of research led by pathologists in the scientific literature. Publications from institutes of pathology of 21 randomly chosen German university cities between 2004 and 2006 were analysed. To validate our findings we subsequently extended our analysis to 45 university cities from Italy, France and the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden). We detected publications directed by pathologists in numerous biomedical journals, most of which not categorised as “pathology” journals. In the analyses from Germany and Italy, Virchows Archiv led the ranking in terms of absolute number of publications. Meanwhile, Anticancer Research and the International Journal of Cancer took the lead concerning publications from pathologists from the Nordic countries. Our results mirror the wide diversification in scientific pathology and the overlap with other medical subspecialties, especially oncology, cell biology and biochemistry. This explains the problem of defining “pathology” journals and deducting pathological research activity from these publications. However, the general notion that pathology journals are the most important communication medium of pathology research was affirmed.  相似文献

William James famously described the infant's perceptual world as a “blooming, buzzing confusion,” and a century later, the same words might apply to the field of psychology. With historical roots in both physiology and philosophy, psychology has proliferated into a multitude of subdisciplines served by specialized journals and conferences. In the face of such diversity, a few conferences and publications hold fast to the goal of presenting psychological research across the broad spectrum of subdisciplines. This edited volume, together with its companion volume (Vol. 1: Social, Personal, and Cultural Aspects), represents the proceedings of the XXVIth International Congress of Psychology, convened in Montreal in 1996, with the goal of providing “the latest research developments in psychology from around the world.” The volume contains quality reviews by an international roster of authors, and demonstrates at once both the sophisticated “blooming and buzzing” of many individual research programs in cognitive and biological psychology, and a largely untapped potential for the development of unifying themes and principles across the discipline.  相似文献

Background

Studying the contribution of individual countries to leading journals in a specific discipline can highlight which countries have the most impact on that discipline and whether a geographic bias exists. This article aims to examine the international distribution of publications in the field of bioethics.  相似文献

Examines activities of Editor of the Journal of Pediatric Psychology for issues published 1988-1992. Articles published during term are analyzed in terms of senior author gender, affiliation, academic rank, grant support, theoretical orientation, population type, population age, article type, and research purpose. Comparisons are made to earlier analysis of article trends in Journal by Elkins and Roberts (1988). A summary is provided of what the Journal reflects about pediatric psychology in terms of clinical practice, scientific research, and professional issues.  相似文献
