Introduction
Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women, and the incidence of brain metastasis (BM) from BC ranges from 20% to 30%, with a median survival of 10 to 15 months. Previous reports have shown that the presence of obesity or diabetes negatively impacts survival. The present study investigates the association between obesity or diabetes mellitus (DM) and overall survival of patients with BC with BM.Materials and Methods
A database from 2 referral centers for the period of July 2014 to February 2018 was analyzed. The inclusion criteria were as follows: patients who had a confirmed diagnosis of BC with BM were followed and treated at these centers. Demographic data, body weight and height, clinical and oncologic history, functional status, prognostic scales, and prognoses were examined. Results
A total of 228 patients were included. The median age at BM was 50 years; the median survival after diagnosis was 12.1 months; 108 patients had a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25, and 40 (17%) patients had DM. The association between survival and the presence of BMI > 25 exhibited a P value of 0.3.Discussion
We found no association between overweight, obesity, or DM and survival in patients with BC with BM. The role of obesity in cancer is a robust research topic, as there are many questions to be answered. Conclusion
Obesity as a prognostic indicator should be further studied, because we found no association between overall survival and either patients with BM from BC with a BMI > 25 or those with normal weight. 相似文献2.

Introduction
Breast cancer treatment and recovery remain physically and psychologically challenging for patients. Reflexology has been studied as a complementary therapy to help relieve patients of the physical and psychological stresses involved with breast cancer. As a result of recent positive evidence, we studied its effects quantitatively from 2015 to 2016.Patients and Methods
Fifty-two patients completed pre- and post-reflexology intervention ‘Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing’ (MYCaW) questionnaires. Patients were subdivided into breast cancer (BC) and non-breast cancer (NBC) groups. Concerns raised were subdivided in subcategory groups as per MYCaW guidelines and analyzed for improvements in each domain. Results
Thirty (57.7%) patients in the BC group and 22 (42.3%) patients in the NBC group were analyzed. In the BC group, there was a 46.2% improvement in patients’ concerns, and in the NBC group, a 41.4% improvement in concerns were noted. Overall, the symptoms improved by 44.2% (P < .0001). There was an improvement of 43.4% in patient well-being in the BC group, and a 37.8% change in the NBC group, signifying a total improvement in well-being of 41.2%. There was an improvement of 46.4% in the MYCaW scores; 46.4% in the BC group and 42.6% in the NBC group, signifying a combined average improvement of 42.4%. Patients with poor energy level, sleep problems, stress and tension, and hot flushes and sweats experienced the most improvement in their concerns. Conclusions
Our findings show that reflexology has significantly improved patient-reported outcomes using the MYCaW scale. These findings are encouraging and reflect that increased attention to strategies focusing on improving psychological well-being can help patients in managing their symptoms. 相似文献3.
Purpose
To assess the pharmacologic costs of second-line treatments for metastatic renal-cell cancer (mRCC).Methods
The present evaluation was restricted to pivotal phase 3 randomized controlled trials in second-line for mRCC. We calculated the pharmacologic costs necessary to get the benefit in progression-free survival and overall survival (OS) for each trial. The costs of drugs are at the pharmacy of our hospital and are expressed in euros. Results
Our analysis evaluated 5 phase 3 randomized controlled trials including 3112 patients. The lowest cost per month of progression-free survival and OS gained was associated with the use of cabozantinib (€2006 and €1473, respectively), while everolimus had the highest cost per month of OS gained (€28,590).Conclusion
Combining pharmacologic costs of drugs with the measure of efficacy represented by OS, cabozantinib is a cost-effective second-line treatments for patients with mRCC. 相似文献4.

Background
Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most prevalent and reported cancers among Saudi women. Detection of BC in the early invasive stage (stages I, II) has an advantage in treating patients over detection in the late invasive stage (stages III, IV). Tumor markers are used to aid in diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and recurrence detection of malignant tumors. 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) is a marker of nucleic damage owing to oxidative stress.Patients and Methods
We studied the blood levels of 8-OHdG in 50 women with benign breast tumors, 50 women with BC, and 50 healthy women as a control group. Results
The concentrations of 8-OHdG were significantly increased in the BC group (55.2 ng/dL) compared with the benign tumor group (30.2 ng/dL) and with the healthy control group (9.08 ng/dL). The same pattern was observed with other diagnostic markers, including carcinoembryonic antigen and cancer antigen 15-3. Significant positive correlations between 8-OHdG and both carcinoembryonic antigen (r = 0.63; P < .001) and cancer antigen 15-3 (r = 0.51; P < .001) were noticed. The levels of 8-OHdG were significantly higher in stage I (81 ng/dL) compared with stage II (51 ng/dL; P < .05), stage III (38 ng/dL; P < .01), and stage IV (19 ng/dL; P < .001). In addition, serum 8-OHdG had a high diagnostic performance in BC (area under the curve, 0.86; sensitivity = 82%; specificity = 80% at cutoff value 21.4 ng/mL). 8-OHdG is associated with BC risk according to logistic regression analysis. Conclusion
We concluded that the significant increase of serum levels of 8-OHdG in patients with BC can be used as a potential noninvasive biomarker for early detection of BC. However, large sample sizes from different stages and types of BC should be included in any future study to confirm the present findings before translating the findings into routine clinical application. 相似文献5.

Background
Colon cancer is the third most frequent cancer diagnosis, and primary payer status has been shown to be associated with treatment modalities and survival in cancer patients. The goal of our study was to determine the between-insurance differences in survival in patients with clinical stage III colon cancer using data from the National Cancer Database (NCDB).Materials and Methods
We identified 130,998 patients with clinical stage III colon cancer in the NCDB diagnosed from 2004 to 2012. Kaplan-Meier curves and multivariable Cox regression models were used to determine the association between insurance status and survival. Results
Patients with private insurance plans were 28%, 30%, and 16% less likely to die than were uninsured patients, Medicaid recipients, and Medicare beneficiaries, respectively. Medicare patients were 14% were less likely to die compared with uninsured patients. Patients receiving chemotherapy were, on average, 65% less likely to die compared with the patients not receiving chemotherapy. Conclusion
Private insurance and a greater socioeconomic status were associated with increased patient survival compared with other insurance plans or the lack of insurance. Future research should continue to unravel how socioeconomic status and insurance status contribute to the quality of care and survival of oncologic patients. 相似文献6.

Aims
To obtain an overview of the management and outcomes of children aged 18 years or younger diagnosed with differentiated thyroid carcinoma of follicular cell origin across the UK, by collecting and analysing data from the limited number of centres treating these patients. This multicentre data might provide a more realistic perspective than single-institution series.Materials and methods
Six centres submitted data extracted from historical records on patients aged 18 years or younger, diagnosed between 1964 and 2017. The univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify potential predictors of progression-free survival, using national data as a control. Results
Data on 166 patients were available for analysis. Females (74%) were predominant, and the age ranged from 3 to 19 years at diagnosis, mean 14.1 years. Nodal metastases were present in 51%; 12% had distant metastases. After surgery, 95% received radioactive iodine (39% on more than one occasion) and 4% received external beam radiotherapy. With a median follow-up duration of 5 years, 69% are alive with no evidence of disease; 20% are alive with a raised thyroglobulin level as the only evidence of residual disease; 6% have residual structural disease detectable on imaging; 2% have died, from cerebral metastases. Conclusion
Despite most patients having advanced disease at presentation, outcomes are very good. A national prospective registry should allow systematic collection of good-quality data and may facilitate research to further improve outcomes. 相似文献7.

Introduction
Copanlisib is a phosphoinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor approved for the third-line treatment of follicular non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Although the drug is generally well-tolerated, it can be associated with several unique and potentially serious adverse effects (AEs). Two of the most common toxicities not seen with other PI3K inhibitors include hyperglycemia and hypertension, which primarily occur during infusion and resolve shortly thereafter, and likely relate to targeting the PI3K alpha isoform. Other toxicities less commonly observed with copanlisib than with other approved drugs in this class include non-infectious pneumonitis, infections, diarrhea and colitis, and hepatobiliary toxicity.Materials and Methods
A panel composed of experts in lymphoma, diabetes, and hypertension convened to develop guidance pertaining to the administration of copanlisib and the management of the AEs associated with copanlisib treatment. Results
Recommendations were formulated pertaining to the management of AEs associated with copanlisib treatment, particularly infusion-related hyperglycemia and hypertension, noninfectious pneumonitis, infections, diarrhea, and colitis. The recommendations herein reflect the consensus of the members of this panel, all of whom contributed to these suggested approaches to patient supportive care. Conclusion
There are a number of challenges associated with the use of copanlisib. Infusion-related hypertension and hyperglycemia occur frequently, although they are transient, reversible, and rarely of clinical significance; this report provides guidance as to their management. 相似文献8.

Background
Cardiovascular events (CVEs) have been observed in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia treated with second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors.Patients and Methods
We retrospectively evaluated the incidence of CVEs on 233 consecutive patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, of which 116 were treated with imatinib, 75 with dasatinib, and 42 with nilotinib. The median follow-up was 2047, 1712, and 1773 days, respectively. Results
The cumulative incidence of CVEs was 4.29%. Three events occurred during dasatinib treatment, 6 during nilotinib treatment, and none during imatinib treatment (P ≤ .001). Arterial occlusive events occurred in 2 (2.6%) of 75 patients treated with dasatinib and in 6 (14.2%) of 42 patients treated with nilotinib (P ≤ .001). Furthermore, all of them occurred in patients with high-risk (n = 2) and very high-risk (n = 6) cardiovascular risk, contributing to 4.3% of mortality. Conclusion
CVEs were more frequent in patients treated with second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Arterial occlusive events were more frequent in patients treated with nilotinib, with high and very high cardiovascular risk. 相似文献9.

Background
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematologic malignancy of plasma cell origin. MM primarily affects bone marrow, but extramedullary sites can also be involved. Myelomatous pleural effusion (MPE) is an atypical and rare complication of MM. We aimed to systematically study the incidence and clinicopathologic profile of patients with MPE in a real-world setting.Patients and Methods
In this retrospective study, 415 consecutive patients with MM managed at a tertiary care center in North India during a study period of January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2015 were evaluated for MPE. The patients with MPE were analyzed for their clinical profile, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes. Results
Of these 415 patients, 11 (2.65%) patients had MPE. The median age of the study population was 50 years with male preponderance. The majority of these patients had immunoglobin (Ig)G Kappa disease. All patients had higher than International Staging System stage I disease. MPE was a presenting feature at MM diagnosis in 45.45% (n = 5) of the patients, whereas the rest developed MPE during follow-up. MPE presented predominantly (81.8%) as a unilateral effusion. Concurrent extramedullary involvement at other site was seen in 45.45% (n = 5), with 3 (27%) patients having concurrent myelomatous ascites. Six of these were managed aggressively, whereas 5 patients opted for palliation. The outcomes were dismal (90.9% mortality), with a median survival of 2.47 months. Conclusion
MPE is a rare entity, and positive outcomes of therapy remain low with dismal prognosis. 相似文献10.

Background
Implant-based breast reconstruction after nipple-sparing mastectomy has been the most common breast reconstruction procedure performed, for both breast cancer treatment and prophylactically. Subpectoral implant placement with partial detachment of the pectoralis major muscle has been the procedure of choice for staged reconstruction and direct-to-implantation. Prepectoral implant placement has recently increased in popularity among plastic surgeons owing to the high rates of animation deformity, loss of muscle function, and chronic pain observed with submuscular implant placement. Acellular dermal matrices or synthetic meshes have been used for implant coverage and support to avoid capsular contracture and implant visibility. In the present study, we have introduced breast reconstruction actualized in nipple-sparing mastectomy and direct-to-implant with prepectoral polyurethane positioning (BRAND4P).Patients and Methods
A total of 34 nipple-sparing mastectomies and immediate direct-to-implant breast reconstructions with prepectoral polyurethane-coated implant placement were performed in 21 patients (13 bilateral and 8 unilateral). The implant was placed subcutaneously in the exact place of the excised breast parenchyma with no further coverage. Results
After a mean follow-up of 4 months, no major complications had been observed. No patient presented with animation deformity or grade III-IV capsular contracture. Patient satisfaction, assessed using the BREAST-Q, was excellent. Conclusions
The BRAND4P method represents a novel prepectoral approach and a feasible alternative to subpectoral implant placement among the available implant-based breast reconstruction techniques. 相似文献11.

Introduction
Immunotherapy has revolutionized the treatment of NSCLC, but little is known about the activity of programmed cell death 1 and programmed death ligand 1 blockade across age groups. Methods
We retrospectively evaluated patients with NSCLC who initiated programmed cell death 1 and programmed death ligand 1 inhibitors from January 2013 through July 2017. Medical records and radiographic imaging were reviewed to determine progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). We also compared immunotherapy-related toxicities, steroid use, and hospitalizations by age. Results
Of the 245 patients, 26.1% were younger than 60 years, 31.4% were age 60 to 69 years, 31.0% were age 70 to 79 years, and 11.4% were age 80 years or older. The median PFS times by age group were as follows: younger than 60 years, 1.81 months; age 60 to 69 years, 2.53 months; age 70 to 79 years, 3.75 months; and age 80 years or older, 1.64 months (log-rank p value = 0.055). The median OS times by age group were as follows: younger than 60 years, 13.01 months; age 60 to 69 years, 14.56 months; age 70 to 79 years, 12.92 months; and age 80 years or older, 3.62 months (log-rank p value = 0.011). Rates of immunotherapy-related toxicities, steroid use, and hospitalizations did not differ by age. Conclusions
Although the OS and PFS benefits of immunotherapy differ by age, the rates of toxicity are similar regardless of age. 相似文献12.

Introduction
Lung cancer patients with tumors harboring actionable alterations can achieve very durable responses to first-line targeted therapy. However, identifying targetable alterations using next-generation sequencing (NGS) is a complex and time-intensive process. As actionable genetic alterations are enriched in lung cancers arising in patients with limited smoking history, we designed a workflow to expedite NGS testing for this group. Methods
We developed a protocol to allow for next-day extraction of nucleic acids from frozen tissue. Specimens were designated as high priority during sequencing. We determined the interval between biopsy and NGS results to evaluate whether the workflow reduced the pre-analytical period and in-laboratory turnaround time and allowed for rapid initiation of genotype-matched therapy. Results
Between January 2017 and May 2018, 21 patients participated in the expedited sequencing program. The median interval between biopsy and NGS results was 10.7 days. Six patients received results within 1 week of biopsy. Performing molecular analysis on frozen tissue and prioritizing sequencing and analysis of these specimens reduced the pre-analytical period from 3.5 to 1.3 days (p < 0.0001) and shortened in-laboratory turnaround time by 3 days (11.8 versus 8.4 business days, p < 0.0001). Ninety-three percent of patients with an actionable molecular alteration received first-line targeted therapy. The median time-to-initiation of treatment was 19.7 days from biopsy. Conclusions
Sequencing and analyzing nucleic acids from frozen tissue is a practical strategy for shortening the time to matched therapy. The significant advantage of upfront treatment with targeted therapies in subsets of lung cancer patients provides rationale for developing workflows that accelerate comprehensive molecular analysis. 相似文献13.

Background
The conventional chemotherapy of colorectal cancer with irinotecan, 5-fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin remains one of the front-line treatments worldwide. However, its efficacy is quite low. Recently studies of the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) have become the focus of investigations into the cause of chemoresistance in several types of cancer, including colorectal cancer. The data about the role of EMT in chemosensitivity are controversial.Materials and Methods
Human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines HT29 and HCT116 and 14 primary short-term cultures established from patient tumors were used. The chemosensitivity to irinotecan, 5-fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin was assessed using the (4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) test. Immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot test were used to investigate the E-cadherin expression, the loss of which is a major hallmark of EMT.Results
Elevated chemosensitivity of the cell line with EMT phenotype, HCT116, was demonstrated. Increased chemosensitivity was revealed in HT29 cell line upon EMT induction. E-cadherin–positive short-term cultures were more resistant to all the drugs tested, whereas each of E-cadherin–negative cultures showed sensitivity to at least one drug. The statistically significant dependency of cells viability on the E-cadherin expression (P < .04) was demonstrated on the short-term cultures using 2 concentrations of each drug. Conclusion
The data obtained may serve as a basis for the analysis of colon cancer chemosensitivity using short-term cultures and the assay of E-cadherin expression. 相似文献14.

Introduction
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is a promising curative treatment for early-stage NSCLC. It is unclear if survival outcomes for SBRT are influenced by a lack of pathological confirmation of malignancy and staging of disease in these patients. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we assess survival outcomes after SBRT in studies with patients with clinically diagnosed versus biopsy-proven early-stage NSCLC.Methods
The main databases were searched for trials and cohort studies without restrictions to publication status or language. Two independent researchers performed the screening and selection of eligible studies. Outcomes were overall survival, cancer-specific survival, and disease-free survival. The inverse variance method and the random effects method for meta-analysis were used to assess pooled survival estimates. Results
A total of 11,195 nonduplicate records were identified by the original search strategy. After screening by title and abstract, 1051 potentially eligible records were identified. A total of 43 articles were included. The comparative studies showed lower 3-year overall survival and lower 2-year and 5-year cancer-specific survival for biopsy-proven disease compared to clinical disease. However, 5-year overall survival was the same for both groups. For the pooled estimates, 3-year disease-free survival and 2-year cancer-specific survival were lower for biopsied disease. Conclusions
Results of this systematic review and meta-analysis show a discrepancy in oncological outcomes for patients undergoing SBRT for suspected early-stage NSCLC in whom there is pathologic conformation of malignancy and those who there is only a clinical diagnose of NSCLC. These results emphasize the importance of obtaining pathologic proof of malignancy. 相似文献15.

Aims
Ductal adenocarcinoma is a rare variant of prostate cancer, and as such clinical outcomes and best management are not well defined. This series demonstrates the atypical presentation and unusual clinical behaviour of ductal adenocarcinoma and proposes management guidelines to assist clinicians.Materials and methods
A retrospective review of pure (nine patients) and mixed (18 patients) ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate referred to the Departments of Radiation Oncology of the Sydney Cancer Centre, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Northern Sydney Cancer Centre, Royal North Shore Hospital, between 2000 and 2015.Results
Twenty-seven patients were treated with definitive radiotherapy, nine patients (33%) with pure ductal and 18 (67%) with mixed ductal-acinar adenocarcinoma. The median follow-up was 38 months. Four patients (15%) failed locally, all of whom received less than 80 Gy, or no brachytherapy boost. Five patients (19%) failed distantly, four with biopsy-proven lung metastases. All distant failures occurred with a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) < 3 ng/ml.Conclusion
This series shows the atypical clinical presentation of this entity, as well as its propensity to metastasise to unusual sites. Relapse may occur at low absolute PSA values and is often asymptomatic. Ductal cancer should not simply be regarded as a high Gleason grade cancer. We propose management guidelines, including regular computed tomography examinations (rather than relying solely on PSA levels) as part of the follow-up for patients with any component of ductal adenocarcinoma. 相似文献16.

Aims
Childhood cancer is rare and survival of childhood cancer has increased up to 80% at 5 years after diagnosis. Radiotherapy is an important element of the multimodal treatment concept. However, due to growing tissue, children are particularly sensitive to radiation-related side-effects and the induction of secondary malignancies. However, radiotherapy techniques have continuously progressed. In addition, modern treatment concepts have been improved in order to minimise long-term effects. Today, radiotherapy is used for various tumour types in childhood, such as sarcomas and tumours of the central nervous system.Materials and methods
External beam therapy with either photons or protons and brachytherapy are predominantly used for the treatment of childhood tumours. Technical developments and features, as well as clinical outcomes, for several tumour entities are presented. Results
The development of radiotherapy techniques, as well as risk-adapted therapy concepts, resulted in promising outcome regarding tumour control, survival and therapy-related side-effects. It is assumed that proton therapy will be increasingly used for treating children in the future. However, more data have to be collected through multi-institutional registries in order to strengthen the evidence. Conclusion
The development of radiotherapy techniques is beneficial for children in terms of reducing dose exposure. As compared with other modern and highly conformal techniques, particularly proton therapy may achieve high survival rates and tumour control rates while decreasing the risk for side-effects. However, clinical evidence for modern radiotherapy techniques is still limited today. An optimal patient triaging with the selection of the most appropriate radiation technique for each individual patient will be an important goal for the future. 相似文献17.

Background
Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is increasingly treated using targeted therapies. Their real-life evaluation is insufficient, especially in elderly and frail patients. The aim was to describe use, safety, and effectiveness of targeted therapies in first-line mCRC treatment according to age.Patients and Methods
Two field cohorts of patients initiating bevacizumab or cetuximab for first-line mCRC were pooled. Patients characteristics, use, and safety were compared between younger and elderly patients (<75 vs. ≥75 years). Two-year overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were estimated in both age groups using the Kaplan–Meier method adjusted on factors associated with death or progression identified with Cox multivariate modeling. Results
Eight hundred patients (n = 411, 51.4% bevacizumab) were included: 498 (62.3%) male, median age 64 years, 118 (14.8%) Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG-PS) ≥2. Elderly patients (n = 126, 15.8%) were more often treated with 5-fluorouracil alone than younger. Severe adverse events were equivalent across age groups. ECOG-PS ≥1, abnormal hemoglobin, and abnormal alkaline phosphatases were associated with a higher risk of death; OS adjusted on these factors was similar between elderly and younger patients. ECOG-PS ≥1, lung metastases, abnormal hemoglobin, and abnormal creatinine clearance were associated with a higher risk of progression or death; PFS adjusted on these factors was similar across groups. Conclusion
Despite treatment adaptations, elderly patients could benefit from targeted therapies as younger without safety warning. 相似文献18.

Introduction
Genomic variants that lead to MET proto-oncogenem receptor tyrosine kinase (MET) exon 14 skipping represent a potential targetable molecular abnormality in NSCLC. Consequently, reliable molecular diagnostic approaches that detect these variants are vital for patient care. Methods
We screened tumor samples from patients with NSCLC for MET exon 14 skipping by using two distinct approaches: a DNA-based next-generation sequencing assay that uses an amplicon-mediated target enrichment and an RNA-based next-generation sequencing assay that uses anchored multiplex polymerase chain reaction for target enrichment. Results
The DNA-based approach detected MET exon 14 skipping variants in 11 of 856 NSCLC samples (1.3%). The RNA-based approach detected MET exon 14 skipping in 17 of 404 samples (4.2%), which was a statistically significant increase compared with the DNA-based assay. Among 286 samples tested by both assays, RNA-based testing detected 10 positives, six of which were not detected by the DNA-based assay. Examination of primer binding sites in the DNA-based assay in comparison with published MET exon 14 skipping variants revealed genomic deletion involving primer binding sequences as the likely cause of false negatives. Two samples positive via the DNA-based approach were uninformative via the RNA-based approach due to poor-quality RNA.Conclusions
By circumventing an inherent limitation of DNA-based amplicon-mediated testing, RNA-based analysis detected a higher proportion of MET exon 14 skipping cases. However, RNA-based analysis was highly reliant on RNA quality, which can be suboptimal in some clinical samples. 相似文献19.

Background
The study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and reliability of ultrasound-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (US-VABB) for sampling of microcalcifications indicative of cancer when stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy cannot be performed because of reasons such as thin breast tissue, insufficient thickness at compression, and microcalcification situated close to the chest wall or in breast tissue of the axillary tail.Patients and Methods
The study population was selected from among 187 patients with microcalcifications detected on mammogram. The findings were classified using the American College of Radiology criteria as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System 3, 4, or 5. 30 Thirty were not eligible for stereotactic guidance because of reasons such as small breast size, compression thickness <2 cm, or microcalcification located in the axillary tails or close to chest wall. In 23 patients microcalcifications were detected at ultrasound, and US-VABB was performed. The other 7 patients underwent surgical biopsy. In the 23 patients who underwent US-VABB, multiple core samples were taken after a specimen mammography to ensure that microcalcifications were included. Results
Biopsy was successful in all cases of US-VABB. The procedure was well tolerated, and there were no complications. Conclusion
US-VABB should be preferred over diagnostic surgical biopsy when microcalcifications are sonographically visible and stereotactic guidance is contraindicated. The procedure appears to be reliable and accurate, with added advantages such as low cost and absence of radiation exposure. 相似文献20.
