Cloacogenic polyps in an adolescent: A rare cause of rectal bleeding

Cloacogenic polyps are rare inflammatory lesions occurring around the anal transitional zone and in the lower rectum which can mimic neoplasia. They should be given diagnostic consideration in patients presenting with symptoms of rectal bleeding, tenesmus, and altered bowel habits.     

A rare cause of massive rectal bleeding: internal iliac artery aneurysm

Internal iliac artery aneurysm is a rare cause of lower gastro-intestinal tract (GIT) haemorrhage. A fifty-four year old male patient presented with massive rectal bleeding. Sigmoidoscopy was not conclusive and pelvic angiography revealed an aneurysm from a branch off the main trunk of the anterior division of the right internal iliac artery that was located in juxtaposition to the sigmoid colon. The aneurysm was successfully obliterated by transcatheter arterial embolotherapy with acrylic glue. A high index of suspicion of internal iliac artery aneurysm as a possible cause of lower GIT haemorrhage is of paramount importance. Pelvic angiography is essential for the diagnosis, and embolotherapy with acrylic glue was an effective treatment method in this patient.     

Haemobilia: a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding

Iatrogenic injury to hepatic duct leading to pseudoaneurysm and haemobilia can occur following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We report a case of a 60 years old man presenting with haematemesis found to have pseudoaneurysm of accessory hepatic artery 4 months after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Diagnosis was made by computed tomography (CT) scan followed by celiac and mesenteric artery angiogram. The bleeding was successfully treated with coil embolization.     

Massive rectal bleeding from a Dieulafoy's ulcer of the rectum

Massive per rectal bleeding caused by a Dieulafoy's ulcer located within the rectum is extremely rare. We herein report such a case occurring in a 76-year-old male patient with a history of chronic renal failure, who presented with massive fresh bleeding in the rectum. He was diagnosed during an endoscopic inspection and was promptly treated by clipping at the same time. Although this is a rare entity, Dieulafoy's ulcer should therefore be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding.     

Cavernous hemangioma of the cervix: a rare cause of vaginal bleeding

Cavernous hemangiomas of the cervix are extremely rare, benign lesions. To date, fewer than 50 cases have been reported. Here reported is a case of cavernous hemangioma of the cervix in a 53-year-old patient with the complaint of postcoital spotting. Most of these lesions are asymptomatic incidental findings, but sometimes, they may cause abnormal vaginal bleeding in the form of menometrorrhagia and postcoital spotting. They should be included in the differential diagnosis of patients with vaginal bleeding.     

Meckel's diverticulum as a cause of massive rectal bleeding

A fit three months old male baby was admitted in our hospital with a history of massive painless fresh rectal bleeding. Blood transfusion, hemodynamic stabilization and emergency laparotomy were necessary because of the high suspect of Meckel's diverticulum as the cause of bleeding. It is an uncommon case due to the low age of the patient and the severity of clinical presentation.     

Gastric heterotopia in the gallbladder

This is a case report of a 7 year old patient with acute noncalculous cholecystitis due to gastric heterotopia in the gall bladder.     

A rare cause of recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding: mesenteric hemangioma

We describe a case of life-threatening small bowel haemorrhage in a 56 year old man, who was found to have partial midgut malrotation at laparotomy. An association between congenital malrotation and gastrointestinal haemorrhage has not previously been reported in this age group. We discuss the association between gut malrotation and small intestinal pathology and describe the principles of management in these patients.
