Nowadays, a relatively small number of studies concern the study of corrosion processes in reinforced concrete structures under load. Additionally, rather little research has been carried out concerning changes in the stress–strain state parameters of structures under the simultaneous action of aggressive environment and load. This issue requires additional experimental and theoretical investigation. Determination of mechanical properties, fatigue characteristics and susceptibility to corrosion cracking was performed on samples of reinforcing St3GPF steel. The chemical composition of steel was determined by structural analysis. The spectral method for the determination of alloying elements and impurities in steels is based on the excitation of iron atoms and admixtures by electric discharge, decomposition of radiation into a spectrum, followed by its registration on photoplate with the use of electrograph. Experimental tests of samples in an aggressive environment under the action of statically applied tensile force showed that corrosion damage has little effect on the strength characteristics. At the same time, the decrease in area reduction and the decrease in strain were recorded. Additionally, the action of cyclic loads in an aggressive environment leads to a significant reduction in the fatigue limit to values from 20 to 24% of the yield strength of the original samples, which is 2–3 times lower than the fatigue limit of undamaged samples.  相似文献

Recent studies highlighted the importance of the combined effects of prestress loss and corrosion deterioration for concrete girder bridge structures when the effect of damage on the performance level is estimated. The multi-deterioration mechanisms connected with chloride erosion include the cross-sectional area loss of longitudinal bars and stirrups, the reduction in the ductility, the decrease in the strength of steels and the strength loss of concrete in RC columns. For the corroded RC columns and corroded elastomeric bridge bearings, analytical models of the material degradation phenomena were employed for performing the probabilistic seismic performance analysis, which could obtain the system seismic fragility of aging bridges by considering the failure functionality of multiple correlated components (e.g., columns, bearings). The combined effects of prestress loss and cracking were also considered when developing time-dependent system seismic fragility functions. Here, a typical multi-span reinforced concrete girder bridge was used as a case study for studying the time-variant seismic performance. The results revealed the importance of the joint effects of the multi-deterioration mechanisms when modeling the time-dependent seismic fragility of aging bridge systems, as well as the significance of considering the combined effects of prestress loss and cracking.  相似文献

Under corrosive environments, concrete material properties can deteriorate significantly, which can seriously affect structural safety. Therefore, it has important engineering applications to improve the durability performance at a lower economic cost. This paper proposes a new, highly durable concrete using inexpensive construction materials such as basalt fiber, sodium methyl silicate, and inorganic aluminum salt waterproofing agent. With the massive application of sewage treatment projects, the problem of concrete durability degradation is becoming more and more serious. In this paper, five types of concrete are developed for the sewage environment, and the apparent morphology and fine structure of the specimens after corrosion in sewage were analyzed. The density, water absorption, and compressive strength were measured to investigate the deterioration pattern of concrete properties. It was found that ordinary concrete was subject to significant corrosion, generating large deposits of algae on the surface and accompanied by sanding. The new concrete showed superior corrosion resistance compared to conventional concrete. Among other factors, the inorganic aluminum salt waterproofing agent effect was the most prominent. The study found that the strength of ordinary concrete decreased by about 15% in the test environment, while the new concrete had a slight increase. Comprehensive evaluation showed that the combination of basalt fiber and inorganic aluminum salt waterproofing agent had the best effect. Its use is recommended.  相似文献

The macroscopic mechanical properties and frost resistance durability of concrete are closely related to the changes in the internal pore structure. In this study, the two-dimensional and three-dimensional ICT (Industrial Computerized Tomography) pore characteristics of C30 concrete specimens before and after freezing and thawing in clean water, 5 wt.% NaCl, 5 wt.% CaCl2, and 5 wt.% CH3COOK solution environments are obtained through concrete frost resistance durability test and ICT scanning technology. The effects of pore structure changes on concrete frost resistance, durability, and compressive strength mechanical properties after freezing and thawing cycles in different salt solution environments are analyzed. This paper provides new means and ideas for the study of concrete pores. The results show that with the increase in the freezing and thawing times, the concrete porosity, two-dimensional pore area, three-dimensional pore volume, and pore number generally increase in any solution environment, resulting in the loss of concrete compressive strength, mortar spalling, and the decrease in the relative dynamic elastic modulus. Among them, the CH3COOK solution has the least influence on the concrete pore changes; the NaCl solution has the greatest influence on the change in the concrete internal porosity. The damage of CaCl2 solution to concrete is second only to the NaCl solution, followed by clean water. The increase in the concrete internal porosity from high to low is NaCl, CaCl2, clean water, and CH3COOK. The change in the pore volume of 0.1 to 1 mm3 after the freeze–thaw cycle is the main factor for reducing concrete strength. The test results have certain guiding value for the selection of deicing salt in engineering.  相似文献

The effect of the thermal properties of aggregates on the mechanical properties of high-strength concrete was evaluated under loading and high-temperature conditions. For the concrete, granite was selected as a natural aggregate, and ash-clay and clay as lightweight aggregates. The mechanical properties of the concrete (stress–strain, compressive strength, elastic modulus, thermal strain, and transient creep) were evaluated experimentally under uniform heating from 20 to 700 °C while maintaining the load at 0, 20, and 40% of the compressive strength at room temperature. Experimental results showed that the concrete containing lightweight aggregates had better mechanical properties, such as compressive strength and elastic modulus, than that of the concrete with a granite aggregate at high temperature. In particular, the concrete containing lightweight aggregates exhibited high compressive strength (60–80% of that at room temperature) even at 700 °C. Moreover, the concrete containing granite exhibited a higher thermal strain than that containing lightweight aggregates. The influence of the binding force under loaded conditions, however, was found to be larger for the latter type. The transient creep caused by the loading was constant regardless of the aggregate type below 500 °C but increased more rapidly when the coefficient of the thermal expansion of the aggregate was above 500 °C.  相似文献

The acid–alkaline-inducd corrosive environments inside wastewater concrete pipelines cause concrete structural deterioration and substantial economic losses all over the world. High-performance concrete/mortar (HPC) was designed to have better resistance to corrosive environments, with enhanced service life. However, the durability of HPC in wastewater pipeline environments has rarely been studied. A high-performance mortar mixture (M) reinforced by supplemental materials (including fly ash and silica fume) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers, together with a mortar mixture (P) consisting of cement, sand and water with similar mechanical performance, were both designed and exposed to simulated wastewater pipeline environments. The visual appearance, dimensional variation, mass loss, mechanical properties, permeable pore volume, and microstructure of the specimens were measured during the corrosion cycles. More severe deterioration was observed when the alkaline environment was introduced into the corrosion cycles. Test results showed that the M specimens had less permeable pore volume, better dimensional stability, and denser microstructure than the P specimens under acid–alkaline-induced corrosive environments. The mass-loss rates of the M specimens were 66.1–77.2% of the P specimens after 12 corrosion cycles. The compressive strength of the M specimens was 25.5–37.3% higher than the P specimens after 12 cycles under corrosive environments. Hence, the high-performance mortar examined in this study was considered superior to traditional cementitious materials for wastewater pipeline construction and rehabilitation.  相似文献

The improved performance of recycled aggregate has an important impact on its use in engineering. In this study, to improve the weak surface properties, recycled aggregates were treated by nano-silica slurry and applied to concrete beam specimens. Under the action of cracks caused by continuous load and drying-wetting cycles with chloride ingress, the effects of different recycled aggregate additions, nano-silica contents and crack widths on the self-healing performance of cracks and the resistance to chloride ingress of the recycled concrete beams were investigated. It was found that the self-healing rate of cracks increased first and then decreased with increased nano-silica content, reaching a maximum when the content reached 0.4%. Greater amounts of additive in the recycled aggregate increased the concentration of free chloride ions in cracks. However, this concentration was found to be weakened in nano-reinforced aggregate. From a comprehensive perspective, the relative chloride ion concentration can be effectively reduced by controlling the crack width to be smaller than 0.12 mm and using improved recycled aggregates treated with 0.2% nano-silica material. This study provides a reference for the application of recycled aggregate concrete under severe environmental and load conditions.  相似文献

In Lebanon and many other countries where structures are vulnerable to impact loads caused by accidental rock falls due to landslides, specifically bridges with hollow core slab, it is mandatory to develop safe and efficient design procedures to design such types of structures to withstand extreme cases of loading. The structural response of concrete members subjected to low velocity high falling weight raised the interest of researchers in the previous years. The effect of impact due to landslide falling rocks on reinforced concrete (RC) slabs has been investigated by many researchers, while very few studied the effect of impact loading on pre-stressed structures, noting that a recent study was conducted at Beirut Arab University which compared the dynamic behavior of reinforced concrete and post-tensioned slabs under impact loading from a 605 kg impactor freely dropped from a height of 20 m. Hollow core slabs are widely used in bridges and precast structures. Thus, studying their behavior due to such hazards becomes inevitable. This study focuses on these types of slabs. For a better understanding of the behavior, a full scale experimental program consists of testing a single span hollow core slab. The specimen has 6000 mm × 1200 mm × 200 mm dimensions with a 100 mm cast in a place topping slab. Successive free fall drops cases from 14 m height will be investigated on the prescribed slab having a span of 6000 m. This series of impacts will be held by hitting the single span hollow core slab at three different locations: center, edge, and near the support. The data from the testing program were used to assess the structural response in terms of experimental observations, maximum impact and inertia forces, structural damage/failure: type and pattern, acceleration response, and structural design recommendations. This research showed that the hollow core slab has a different dynamic behavior compared to the post tensioned and reinforced concrete slabs mentioned in the literature review section.  相似文献

A novel damage model for concrete has been developed, which can reflect the complex hysteresis phenomena of concrete under cyclic loading, as well as other nonlinear behaviors such as stress softening, stiffness degradation, and irreversible deformation. The model cleverly transforms the complex multiaxial stress state into a uniaxial state by equivalent strain, with few computational parameters and simple mathematical expression. The uniaxial tensile and compressive stress–strain curves matching the actual characteristics are used to accommodate the high asymmetry of concrete in tension and compression, respectively. Meanwhile, an unloading path and a reloading path that can reflect the hysteresis effect under cyclic loading of concrete are established, in which the adopted expressions for the loading and unloading characteristic points do not depend on the shape of the curve. The proposed model has a concise form that can be easily implemented and also shows strong generality and flexibility. Finally, the reliability and correctness of the model are verified by comparing the numerical results with the three-point bending beam test, cyclic loading test, and a seismic damage simulation of the Koyna gravity dam.  相似文献

Fine aggregate and cement have been partially replaced by 10% and 56% crumb rubber and class F-fly ash, respectively, in order to manufacture rubberized concrete interlocking bricks (RCIBs). The newly developed product has been used for masonry construction without the need for mortar (mortarless), and the experimental testing under compression load was investigated by Al-Fakih et al. Therefore, in line with that, this study carried out finite element (FE) analysis for experimental result validation of masonry walls and prisms made of RCIBs. ANSYS software was utilized to implement the FE analysis, and a plasticity detailed micro-modeling approach was adopted. Parametric studies were carried out on masonry prisms to investigate the effect of the slenderness ratio and the elastic modulus of grout on the prism behavior. The results found that the adopted FE model has the ability to predict the structural response, such as compressive strength, stiffness, and failure mechanism, of the interlocking masonry prisms with about a 90% agreement with the experimental results. Based on the parametric studies, the compressive strength for a 6-course prism is approximately 68% less than a 3-course prism and 60% less than a 5-course prism, which means that the slenderness ratio plays a vital role in the behavior of the RCIB masonry prism under the vertical compression load. Moreover, the results showed that the difference between FE and experimental results of the walls was less than 16%, indicating a good match. The findings also reported that masonry walls and prisms experienced higher ductility measured by the post-failure loading under compression. The finite element model can be used for further investigation of masonry systems built with rubberized concrete interlocking bricks.  相似文献

With steel fiber and basalt fiber volume dosing serving as variation parameters, a total of 200 d cycles of acid rain corrosion cycle tests were conducted on fiber concrete in this study. We selected three durability evaluation parameters to assess the degree of damage deterioration on fiber concrete, used scanning electron microscopy, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and a dimensional microhardness meter to analyze the concrete micromorphology, and established a GM(1,1)-Markov model for life prediction of its durability. Results reveal that the acid rain environment is the most sensitive to the influence of the relative dynamic elastic modulus evaluation parameter, and concrete has specimens that show failure damage under this parameter evaluation. Incorporation of fibers can reduce the amount of corrosion products inside the concrete, decrease the proportion of harmful pores, optimize the mean pore-size, and significantly improve the resistance to acid rain attack. Concrete with 2% steel fiber and 0.1% basalt fiber by volume has the least change in durability damage, and the predicted service life by GM(1,1)-Markov model is 322 d.  相似文献

This research aimed to determine the durability and strength of an old concrete built-in arch bridge based on selected mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of the concrete. The bridge was erected in 1925 and is located in Jagodnik (northern Poland). Cylindrical specimens were taken from the side ribs connected to the top plate using a concrete core borehole diamond drill machine. The properties of the old concrete were compared with the present and previous standard requirements and guidelines. The laboratory testing program consisted of the following set of tests: measurements of the depth of carbonated zone and dry density, water absorption tests, determination of concrete compressive strength and frost resistance, determination of modulus of elasticity, measurement of the pH value, determination of water-soluble chloride salt and sulfate ion content, and X-ray diffraction analyses. Large variations in the cylindrical compressive strength (14.9 to 22.0 MPa), modulus of elasticity (17,900 to 26,483 MPa), density (2064 to 2231 kg/m3), and water absorption (3.88 to 6.58%) were observed. In addition to the experiments, a brief literature survey relating to old concrete properties was also conducted. This paper can provide scientists, engineers, and designers an experimental basis in the field of old concrete built-in bridge construction.  相似文献

In order to enhance the corrosion resistance of concrete to chloride salt, 5% NaCl solution was used to corrode ordinary concrete (OC) and rubber concrete (RC) with 5%, 10%, and 15% rubber content, respectively. By testing the compressive strength, mass, chloride ion concentration at different depths and relative dynamic elastic modulus, the erosion mechanism was analyzed by means of SEM scanning and EDS patterns, and the mechanical properties and deterioration degree of ordinary concrete (OC) and rubber concrete (RC) under the corrosion environment of chloride salt were studied. The results show that: the quality of rubber mixed into concrete increases first and then decreases, and rubber can increase the compressive strength of concrete, improve its internal structure. At the same time, the mechanical properties of concrete in the corrosion environment of chloride salt are improved to a certain extent, and the deterioration degree is reduced. Considering the comprehensive performance of OC and RC in the dry–wet alternation mechanism under chloride salt corrosion, the best content of rubber is 10%.  相似文献

An economically efficient yet safe design of concrete structures under high-cycle fatigue loading is a rather complex task. One of the main reasons is the insufficient understanding of the fatigue damage phenomenology of concrete. A promising hypothesis states that the evolution of fatigue damage in concrete at subcritical load levels is governed by a cumulative measure of shear sliding. To evaluate this hypothesis, an experimental program was developed which systematically investigates the fatigue behavior of high-strength concrete under mode II loading using newly adapted punch through shear tests (PTST). This paper presents the results of monotonic, cyclic, and fatigue shear tests and discusses the effect of shear-compression-interaction and load level with regard to displacement and damage evolution, fracture behavior, and fatigue life. Both, monotonic shear strength and fatigue life under mode II loading strongly depend on the concurrent confinement (compressive) stress in the ligament. However, it appears that the fatigue life is more sensitive to a variation of shear stress range than to a variation of compressive stress in the ligament.  相似文献

This research aims to determine the mechanical, chemical, and physical properties of old concrete used in the former Leipziger Palace in Wrocław, Poland. The cylindrical specimens were taken from the basement concrete walls using a concrete core borehole diamond drill machine. The determination of the durability and strength of old concrete was based on specified chosen properties of the old concrete obtained through the following set of tests: measurements of dry density, tests of water absorption, specification of concrete compressive strength and frost resistance, determination of the modulus of elasticity, measurement of the pH value, determination of water-soluble chloride salts and sulphate ions, and X-ray diffraction analyses. Large dispersions of the compressive strength (10.4 MPa to 34.2 MPa), density (2049 kg/m3 to 2205 kg/m3), water absorption (4.72% to 6.55%), and stabilized secant modulus of elasticity (15.25 Gpa to 19.96 GPa) were observed. The paper is intended to provide scientists, civil engineers, and designers with guidelines for examining and assessing the long-term durability of old concrete, and also extending knowledge in the field of archaeological restoration and the protection of old concrete structures.  相似文献

The lateral capacity of exterior concrete columns subjected to a blast load is the key factor in the building collapse probability. Due to potentially severe consequences of the collapse, efforts have been made to improve the blast resistance of existing structures. One of the successful approaches is the use of ultra-high-performance-concrete (UHPC) jacketing for retrofitting a building’s columns. The columns on the first floor of a building normally have higher slenderness due to the higher first story. Since an explosion is more likely to take place at the ground level, retrofitting the columns of the lower floors is crucial to improve a building’s blast resistance. Casting a UHPC tube around a circular RC column can increase the moment of inertia of the column and improve the flexural strength. In this study, a retrofitting system consisting of a UHPC layer enclosed by a thin steel jacket is proposed to improve the blast resistance of buildings in service. Most of the previous research is focused on design aspects of blast-resistant columns and retrofitting systems are mostly based on fiber reinforced polymers or steel jackets. A validated FE model is used to investigate the effectiveness of this method. The results showed significant improvement both at the component and building system levels against combined gravity and blast loading.  相似文献

Steel corrosion has become the main reason for the deterioration of reinforced concrete structures. Due to the heterogeneity of concrete and the spatial variation of environmental conditions, macrocell corrosion is often formed by localized corrosion, which is more detrimental if the anode is supported by large numbers of cathodes. The macrocell corrosion caused by concrete carbonation has been seldom studied. Furthermore, the influence of geometrical conditions on cathode-controlled corrosion in the chloride environment needs to be further clarified. In this work, the macrocell corrosion of steel embedded in concrete specimens exposed to accelerated carbonation, chloride contamination, and chloride penetration is studied using a modified ASTM G109 method. Concrete specimens with various binder types, geometrical parameters (i.e., concrete cover thickness and the diameter of embedded steel), and boundary conditions were tested. A simplified mathematical model for the prediction of the steel corrosion rate was developed considering two-dimensional oxygen diffusion. The results showed that, at the same level of anodic potential drops, the corrosion current rate in chloride-induced corrosion is higher than that of carbonation-induced corrosion. Chloride contamination is less detrimental to concrete incorporated with slag and pulverized fly ash than it is to pure ordinary Portland cement (OPC), likely due to enhanced chloride binding capacity. The results also indicated that the model considering two-dimensional diffusion can accurately predict the cathodic reaction process on corroded steel bars, which provides a theoretical basis for considering the correction coefficient of steel bar position in the establishment of a steel bar corrosion rate model.  相似文献

The fatigue process of concrete under compressive cyclic loading is still not completely explored. The corresponding damage processes within the material structure are especially not entirely investigated. The application of acoustic measurement methods enables a better insight into the processes of the fatigue in concrete. Normal strength concrete was investigated under compressive cyclic loading with regard to the fatigue process by using acoustic methods in combination with other nondestructive measurement methods. Acoustic emission and ultrasonic signal measurements were applied together with measurements of strains, elastic modulus, and static strength. It was possible to determine the anisotropic character of the fatigue damage caused by uniaxial loading based on the ultrasonic measurements. Furthermore, it was observed that the fatigue damage seems to consist not exclusively of load parallel oriented crack structures. Rather, crack structures perpendicular to the load as well as local compacting are likely components of the fatigue damage. Additionally, the ultrasonic velocity appears to be a good indicator for fatigue damage beside the elastic modulus. It can be concluded that acoustic methods allow an observation of the fatigue process in concrete and a better understanding, especially in combination with further measurement methods.  相似文献

Rapid global infrastructural developments and advanced material science, amongst other factors, have escalated the demand for concrete. Cement, which is an integral part of concrete, binds the various individual solid materials to form a cohesive mass. Its production to a large extent emits many tons of greenhouse gases, with nearly 10% of global carbon (IV) oxide (CO2) emanating from cement production. This, coupled with an increase in the advocacy for environmental sustainability, has led to the development of various innovative solutions and supplementary cementitious materials. These aims to substantially reduce the overall volume of cement required in concrete and to meet the consistently increasing demand for concrete, which is projected to increase as a result of rapid construction and infrastructural development trends. Palm oil fuel ash (POFA), an industrial byproduct that is a result of the incineration of palm oil wastes due to electrical generation in power plants has unique properties, as it is a very reactive materials with robust pozzolanic tendencies, and which exhibits adequate micro-filling capabilities. In this study, a review on the material sources, affecting factors, and durability characteristics of POFA are carefully appraised. Moreover, in this study, a review of correlated literature with a broad spectrum of insights into the likely utilization of POFA-based eco-friendly concrete composites as a green material for the present construction of modern buildings is presented.  相似文献

Coating materials are considered one of the most antique materials of human civilization; they have been used for decoration and the protection of surfaces for millennia. Concrete structures—due to their permanent exposure to different types of environments and contaminants—require the use of coatings that contribute to its preservation by reducing the corrosion of its components (steel and aggregates). This article intends to introduce the principal causes of concrete deterioration and the coating materials used to protect concrete structures, including a summary of the coating types, their advantages and disadvantages, and the latest developments and applications. Furthermore, this paper also assesses brief information about the potential challenges in the production of eco-friendly coating materials.  相似文献
