The very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) problems of thin-plate structures are usually caused by high-frequency vibrations. This paper proposes an accelerated fatigue test method based on ultrasonic loading technology in order to develop a feasible bending testing method and explore the bending fatigue characteristics of thin-plate structures in the VHCF regime. A new bending fatigue specimen with an intrinsic frequency of 20 kHz was designed based on cantilever bending through finite element simulation. It was verified by the axial load test with R = −1. The results showed that the method could effectively transfer the dangerous cross-section at the first-order cantilever bending restraint to the internal part of the specimen, thereby making the fracture location independent of the complex stresses. The linear relationship between the vibration amplitude and the maximum stress was also verified using strain measurements. Furthermore, the S-N curves and fracture morphology for different loading types were consistent with conventional studies to a certain extent, which indicated that the design of the bending test model was reasonable.  相似文献

Ultrasonic fatigue tests of TC4 titanium alloy equiaxed I, II and bimodal I, II obtained by different forging processes were carried out in the range from 105 to 109 cycles using 20 kHz three-point bending. The results showed that the S-N curves had different shapes, there was no traditional fatigue limit, and the bimodal I had the best comprehensive fatigue performance. The fracture morphology was analyzed by SEM, and it was found that the fatigue cracks originated from the surface or subsurface facets, showing a transgranular quasi-cleavage fracture mechanism. EDS analysis showed that the facets were formed by the cleavage of primary α grains, and the fatigue cracks originated from the primary α grain preferred textures, rather than the primary α grain clusters. From the microstructure perspective, the reasons for better equiaxed high-cycle-fatigue properties and better bimodal ultra-high-cycle-fatigue properties were analyzed. The bimodal I fatigue life prediction based on energy was also completed, and the prediction curve was basically consistent with the experimental data.  相似文献

This paper aimed to study the fatigue crack growth behavior of diffusion-bonded titanium alloy laminates (DB-TAL) with preset unbonded areas using an experimental method to understand the toughening mechanisms of presetting unbonded areas in DB-TAL. For two series of specimens of DB-TAL with preset unbonded areas with an open hole, which have a pre-notch at the open hole edge, fatigue experiments under tension–tension cyclic loading were conducted. The fatigue crack growth process, the crack growth rate, and the stress intensity factor on the crack front were analyzed. The results showed that the preset unbonded area leads the crack away from the stress concentration zone and slows down the crack growth rate. Therefore, the preset unbonded area significantly improved the fracture property of DB-TAL.  相似文献

Bone resorption and inadequate osseointegration are considered the main problems of titanium implants. In this investigation, the texture and surface roughness of porous titanium samples obtained by the space holder technique were modified with a femtosecond Yb-doped fiber laser. Different percentages of porosity (30, 40, 50, and 60 vol.%) and particle range size (100–200 and 355–500 μm) were compared with fully-dense samples obtained by conventional powder metallurgy. After femtosecond laser treatment the formation of a rough surface with micro-columns and micro-holes occurred for all the studied substrates. The surface was covered by ripples over the micro-metric structures. This work evaluates both the influence of the macro-pores inherent to the spacer particles, as well as the micro-columns and the texture generated with the laser, on the wettability of the surface, the cell behavior (adhesion and proliferation of osteoblasts), micro-hardness (instrumented micro-indentation test, P–h curves) and scratch resistance. The titanium sample with 30 vol.% and a pore range size of 100–200 μm was the best candidate for the replacement of small damaged cortical bone tissues, based on its better biomechanical (stiffness and yield strength) and biofunctional balance (bone in-growth and in vitro osseointegration).  相似文献

Hot work tool steels (HWS) are widely used for high performance components as dies and molds in hot forging processes, where extreme process-related mechanical and thermal loads limit tool life. With the functionalizing and modification of tool surfaces with tailored surfaces, a promising approach is given to provide material flow control resulting in the efficient die filling of cavities while reducing the process forces. In terms of fatigue properties, the influence of surface modifications on surface integrity is insufficiently studied. Therefore, the potential of the machining processes of high-feed milling, micromilling and grinding with regard to the implications on the fatigue strength of components made of HWS (AISI H11) hardened to 50 ± 1 HRC was investigated. For this purpose, the machined surfaces were characterized in terms of surface topography and residual stress state to determine the surface integrity. In order to analyze the resulting fatigue behavior as a result of the machining processes, a rotating bending test was performed. The fracture surfaces were investigated using fractographic analysis to define the initiation area and to identify the source of failure. The investigations showed a significant influence of the machining-induced surface integrity and, in particular, the induced residual stress state on the fatigue properties of components made of HWS.  相似文献

Titanium and its alloys are often used for long-term implants after their surface treatment. Such surface modification is usually performed to improve biological properties but seldom to increase corrosion resistance. This paper presents research results performed on such metallic materials modified by a variety of techniques: direct voltage anodic oxidation in the presence of fluorides, micro-arc oxidation (MAO), pulse laser treatment, deposition of chitosan, biodegradable Eudragit 100 and poly(4-vinylpyridine (P4VP), carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles of TiO2, and chitosan with Pt (nano Pt) and polymeric dispersant. The open circuit potential, corrosion current density, and potential values were determined by potentiodynamic technique, and microstructures of the surface layers and coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The results show that despite the applied modifications, the corrosion current density still appears in the region of very low values of some nA/cm2. However, almost all surface modifications, designed principally for the improvement of biological properties, negatively influence corrosion resistance. The reasons for observed effects can vary, such as imperfections and permeability of some coatings or accelerated degradation of biodegradable deposits in simulated body fluids during electrochemical testing. Despite that, all coatings can be accepted for biological applications, and such corrosion testing results are presumed not to be of major importance for their applications in medicine.  相似文献

The current study investigates the load controlled fatigue properties of the microplasma arc welded thin titanium Grade 5 (6Al-4V) sheets. In order to explore the effect of weld geometry on the fatigue, two different welded joints were used in the experimental studies. Load controlled fatigue test results were evaluated to present an outlook on the behaviour of microplasma welded titanium alloy Grade 5 sheets under cyclic loading. Even though the previously published monotonic tests showed successful use of microplasma arc welding to join thin titanium Grade 5 sheets with mechanical properties comparable to the base metal, fatigue life of the welded joints was lower than the lives of samples without welds. In particular, the fatigue performance of overlap joints was very poor. This was presumed to be due to the changed material properties of the heat affected zone which was formed by the excess heat of the welding process as fractures often occurred at such locations. Based on experimental findings and fractographic observations, a clear adverse effect of welding process in material behaviour was discovered. Despite the concentrated heat of microplasma arc welding, post-weld heat treatment of the weld area is recommended to improve the mechanical behaviour of the welded joints.  相似文献

Selective laser melting (SLM) is a promising additive manufacturing (AM) process for high-strength or high-manufacturing-cost metals such as Ti-6Al-4V widely applied in aeronautical industry components with high material waste or complex geometry. However, one of the main challenges of AM parts is the variability in fatigue properties. In this study, standard cyclic fatigue and monotonic tensile testing specimens were fabricated by SLM and subsequently heat treated using the standard heat treatment (HT) or hot isostatic pressing (HIP) methods. All the specimens were post-treated to relieve the residual stress and subsequently machined to the same surface finishing. These specimens were tested in the low-cycle fatigue (LCF) regime. The effects of post-process methods on the failure mechanisms were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy (OM) characterization methods. While the tensile test results showed that specimens with different post-process treatment methods have similar tensile strength, the LCF test revealed that no significant difference exists between HT and HIP specimens. Based on the results, critical factors influencing the LCF properties are discussed. Furthermore, a microstructure-based multistage fatigue model was employed to predict the LCF life. The results show good agreement with the experiment.  相似文献

In this work, the fatigue and cellular performance of novel superficially treated porous titanium dental implants made up using conventional powder metallurgy and space-holder techniques (30 vol.% and 50 vol.%, both with a spacer size range of 100–200 µm) are evaluated. Before the sintering stage, a specific stage of CNC milling of the screw thread of the implant is used. After the consolidation processing, different surface modifications are performed: chemical etching and bioactive coatings (BG 45S5 and BG 1393). The results are discussed in terms of the effect of the porosity, as well as the surface roughness, chemical composition, and adherence of the coatings on the fatigue resistance and the osteoblast cells’ behavior for the proposed implants. Macro-pores are preferential sites of the nucleation of cracks and bone cell adhesion, and they increase the cellular activity of the implants, but decrease the fatigue life. In conclusion, SH 30 vol.% dental implant chemical etching presents the best bio-functional (in vitro osseointegration) and bio-mechanical (stiffness, yield strength and fatigue life) balance, which could ensure the required characteristics of cortical bone tissue.  相似文献

The idea of a bioactive surface coating that enhances bone healing and bone growth is a strong focus of on-going research for bone implant materials. Enamel matrix derivate (EMD) is well documented to support bone regeneration and activates growth of mesenchymal tissues. Thus, it is a prime candidate for coating of existing implant surfaces. The aim of this study was to show that cathodic polarization can be used for coating commercially available implant surfaces with an immobilized but functional and bio-available surface layer of EMD. After coating, XPS revealed EMD-related bindings on the surface while SIMS showed incorporation of EMD into the surface. The hydride layer of the original surface could be activated for coating in an integrated one-step process that did not require any pre-treatment of the surface. SEM images showed nano-spheres and nano-rods on coated surfaces that were EMD-related. Moreover, the surface roughness remained unchanged after coating, as it was shown by optical profilometry. The mass peaks observed in the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectroscopy (MALDI-TOF MS) analysis confirmed the integrity of EMD after coating. Assessment of the bioavailability suggested that the modified surfaces were active for osteoblast like MC3M3-E1 cells in showing enhanced Coll-1 gene expression and ALP activity.  相似文献

Ultrasonic fatigue tests were performed on Ti60 titanium alloy up to a very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime at various stress ratios to investigate the characteristics. The S-N curves showed continuous declining trends with fatigue limits of 400, 144 and 130 MPa at 109 cycles corresponding to stress ratios of R = −1, 0.1 and 0.3, respectively. Fatigue cracks found to be initiated from the subsurface of the specimens in the VHCF regime, especially at high stress ratios. Two modified fatigue life prediction models based on fatigue crack initiation mechanisms for Ti60 titanium alloy in the VHCF regime were developed which showed good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

This study evaluated the influence of cyclic loading on zirconia bar-shaped specimens after being subjected to three different surface treatments: particle abrasion with either 50 μm or 110 μm alumina and grinding with diamond points, while polished specimens served as a control. Statistical analysis revealed significant reduction (38-67%) in flexure strength (P < 0.001) after three million cycles of dynamic loading for all surface treatments. Scanning electron imaging revealed grain boundary thickening, grain pull-out, and micro-cracking as the main structural defects. The results suggest that various surface treatments of zirconia based dental ceramics may significantly influence their long term fatigue resistance in the oral environment.  相似文献

The application of titanium and its alloys under friction conditions is severely restricted, owing to their poor wear resistance. The paper presents the results of studies of the composition, microstructure, and tribological properties of Ti-TiC-based composite coatings formed on titanium alloys by the electroarc treatment in an aqueous electrolyte using a graphite anode. It has been found that TiC grains have a different stoichiometry and do not contain oxygen. The grain size varies from hundreds of nanometers to tens of micrometers, and the micro-hardness of the treated surface reached the value of 29.5 GPa. The wear resistance of the treated surface increased approximately 40-fold, and the friction coefficient with steel decreased to 0.08–0.3 depending on the friction conditions. The formation of a composite material based on Ti-TiC will contribute to the effective protection of titanium alloys from frictional loads in engineering.  相似文献

The machining of thin-walled elements used in the aviation industry causes may problems, which create a need for studying ways in which undesirable phenomena can be prevented. This paper presents the results of a study investigating face milling thin-walled elements made of titanium alloy, aluminum alloy and polymer composite. These materials were milled with folding double-edge cutters with diamond inserts. The results of maximum vertical forces and surface roughness obtained after machining elements of different thicknesses and unsupported element lengths are presented. The results of deformation of milled elements are also presented. The results are then analyzed by ANOVA. It is shown that the maximum vertical forces decrease (in range 42–60%) while the ratio of vertical force amplitude to its average value increases (in range 55–65%) with decreasing element thickness and increasing unsupported element length. It is also demonstrated that surface roughness deteriorates (in range 100% for aluminum, 30% titanium alloy, 15% for CFRP) with small element thicknesses and long unsupported element lengths. Long unsupported element lengths also negatively (increasing deformation several times) affect the accuracy of machined elements.  相似文献

The low-cycle fatigue behavior of the VT3-1 titanium alloy (Ti–6Al–3Mo–2Cr alloy) under loading with a triangular and trapezoidal shape of cycle waveform was studied on round specimens prepared from forged compressor disks of a gas turbine engine. The filament type structure after forging has alternating filaments with the ductile and quasi-brittle state of the metal as a result of the wave process of plastic deformation during the metal forging process. The crack propagation, regardless of the cyclic waveform shape, occurs by the crack meso-tunneling mechanism: initially, the cracks propagate along the filaments by a quasi-brittle mechanism with the formation of a facetted pattern relief on the fracture surface reflecting the two-phase structure of the titanium alloy, and then, the bridge between the meso-tunnels is fractured with the formation of fatigue striations. The part of the crack growth duration Np/Nf in the durability Nf is determined on the basis of measuring the fatigue striation spacing, and it depends on the crack path with respect to the material filaments. The growth of a fatigue crack in the case of in-service failure of a compressor disk of a gas turbine engine is considered, taking into account the crack meso-tunneling effect, and the fatigue crack growth duration in the disk is determined on the basis of quantitative fractography.  相似文献

Porous NiTi alloys are widely applied in the field of medical implant materials due to their excellent properties. In this paper, porous NiTi alloys were prepared by non-aqueous gel-casting. The influence of solid loading on the process characteristics of slurries and the microstructure and mechanical properties of sintered samples were investigated. The viscosity and the stability of slurry significantly increased with the growth of solid loading, and the slurry had better process characteristics in the solid loading range of 40–52 vol.%. Meanwhile, the porosity and average pore diameter of the sintered NiTi alloys decreased with a rise in the solid loading, while the compressive strength increased. Porous NiTi alloys with porosities of 43.3–48.6%, average pore sizes of 53–145 µm, and compressive strengths of 87–167 MPa were fabricated by gel-casting. These properties meet the requirements of cortical bone. The results suggest that the pore structure and mechanical properties of porous NiTi products produced by gel-casting can be adjusted by controlling the solid loading.  相似文献

Hydroxyapatite (HA), the major mineral component of tooth enamel and natural bones, is a good candidate for bone tissue engineering. Synthetic HA is used for making coatings on metallic implants intended for medical applications. A HA coating renders the implant biocompatible and osteoinductive. In addition, it improves fixation and the overall performance of the implanted object. In the present work, HA coatings were deposited on a medical titanium alloy implant with mesh geometry and a developed surface by detonation spraying. The feedstock powder was HA obtained by the dry mechanochemical method. Single-phase HA coatings were obtained. The coatings were formed not only on the surfaces normal to the particle flow direction, but also on the sides of the mesh elements. Despite partial melting of the powder, no decomposition of HA occurred. This work demonstrates the prospects of detonation spraying for the production of HA coatings on metallic implants with complex geometries.  相似文献

Material characterization at moderate strain rates is an important factor for improving the adequacy and accuracy of analysis of structures operating under extreme conditions. In this paper, the deformation and fracture of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn alloys were studied utilizing the punch test at strain rates up to several hundred per second. Loading velocities from 0.0003 to 15 m/s were realized during the spherical body penetration through a thin titanium plate. To describe the plastic flow and fracture of the Ti-5Al-2.5Sn alloy at strain rates ranging from 0.001 to 103 s−1, a micromechanical damage model was coupled with a viscoplastic constitutive model based on the dislocation dynamics. Numerical simulations of the punch test at 15 and 2 m/s were carried out to validate used constitutive relations. It was verified that the simulated fracture shape and deflections were similar to experimental ones. It was found that dynamic punch test is suitable for validation of damage kinetics under complex stress states.  相似文献

In the present study, the fatigue life and fatigue fracture characteristics of annealed 7005 aluminum alloy plates subjected to different pre-tensile deformations were investigated. The results obtained upon increasing the pre-tensile deformation of the alloy plate to 20% revealed that the second-phase particles did not show any obvious changes, and that the thickness of the thin strip grain slightly decreased. The dislocation distribution in the alloy matrix varied significantly among the grains or within each grain as the dislocation density gradually increased with increasing pre-tensile deformation. Moreover, the fatigue performance of the annealed 7005 aluminum alloy plate was significantly improved by the pre-tensile deformation, and the alloy plate subjected to 20% pre-tensile deformation exhibited an optimal fatigue life of ~1.06 × 106 cycles, which was 5.7 times and 5.3 times that of the undeformed and 3% pre-stretched alloy plates, respectively. Two fatigue life plateaus were observed in the pre-tensile deformation ranges of 3–5% and 8–12%, which corresponded to heterogeneous dislocation distribution among various grains and within each grain, respectively. Moreover, two large leaps in the plot of the fatigue-life–pre-tensile-deformation curve were observed, corresponding to the pre-tensile deformation ranges of 5–8% and 16–20%, respectively.  相似文献
