Cement emulsified asphalt composite binder (CEACB) plays a determining role in the construction of cold recycled asphalt pavements. Understanding the interaction behaviors of cement-emulsified asphalt is very essential to promote the serviceability of CEACB. The objective of this study was to explore the interaction behaviors and mechanism of cement-emulsified asphalt associated with microstructural characteristics and to assess the interaction ability of cement-emulsified asphalt by performing macro-rheological measurements. Firstly, the physico-chemical interaction of cement-emulsified asphalt was qualitatively discussed by analyzing the difference of characteristic peaks based on Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer. Secondly, the micro-morphological evolution behaviors of CEACB attributing to the cement-emulsified asphalt interaction were investigated by using a fluorescence microscope (FM) and laser particle size analyzer (LPSA). Thirdly, the microstructural characteristics of CEACB were studied by observing the spatial network structure through the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Finally, the macro-rheological index based on dynamic rheological shear (DSR) test was proposed to evaluate the interaction ability of cement-emulsified asphalt. The results show that the cement-emulsified asphalt interaction is merely a physical blending process due to the occurrence of no new characteristic peaks in the FTIR spectrum except for cement hydration products. The cement-emulsified asphalt interaction in early-age CEACB could be reflected by the aggregation process among asphalt droplets and the adsorption action of cement particles to asphalt droplets. A reasonable ratio of cement to emulsified asphalt could promote the formation of the denser spatial network structure of CEACB along with cement hydration products growing and interweaving with asphalt films. The K-B-G* index based on macro-rheological properties of CEACB with full consideration of cement hydration process is very suitable for evaluating the interaction ability of cement-emulsified asphalt under the condition of different cement proportions and curing time. The research would provide the support for understanding the natural properties of CEACB and promote the improvement of the mechanical performance of cold recycled asphalt pavements.  相似文献

In order to evaluate and improve the deformation behavior of cement–emulsified asphalt binder (CA) in cement–emulsified asphalt mixture, this study investigated the reinforcement of small additions of fibers (2%, 4%, and 6% addition by mass of cement) on the deformation resistance of CA. A repeated creep recovery test was implemented that measures the recovery rate of creep deformation and accumulated strain. Further, an improved piecewise curve-fitting method was used to determine the parameters of Burgers model, then the creep compliances were fitted and calculated. The results show the repeated creep recovery test to be a suitable method for obtaining useful information about creep and recovery deformation of fiber-reinforced CA. The influence of fiber types and dosages on the deformation recovery ability is determined based on the creep recovery ratio and accumulated strain. The improved piecewise curve-fitting method has high accuracy. Thereafter, the reinforcement effect was analyzed through the evolution of creep compliance under loading. Therefore, this paper can provide a reference for enhancing the properties of cement–emulsified asphalt mixture by maximizing the fiber reinforcement.  相似文献

Epoxy asphalt concrete, mortar asphalt concrete and Gussasphalt concrete are commonly used types of deck pavement materials in bridge deck pavement engineering. However, achieving the high-temperature stability and anti-fatigue performance of the deck pavement materials is still challenging. In order to reduce the rutting and cracking risks of the asphalt mixture, this paper proposed pre-coated aggregates grouting asphalt concrete (PGAC) for bridge deck pavement. Laboratory tests were conducted to determine the optimum grouting materials and to evaluate the mechanical performances of the PGAC material. Test results showed that the mechanical properties for PGAC with grouting material of high-viscosity-modified asphalt binder blending with mineral filler were superior to that of GMA-10 used for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge deck pavement. Microstructural analysis showed that the PGAC had a more stable skeleton structure compared to other typical aggregate mixtures. This study highlights the performances of the proposed PGAC and sheds light on the deck pavement material improvement of both high-temperature stability and anti-fatigue performance that could be achieved.  相似文献

Recently, much attention has been paid to the reuse of bauxite residues from alumina production, also known as red mud, in the cement industry. Red mud bears the potential to improve concrete properties due to its favourable chemical composition and particle size. In this work, the synergy between locally available red mud and common supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash, slag, calcined clay and limestone in cement mixes is investigated. All materials used were sourced from the immediate vicinity of the cement plant. The study of synergy involved the evaluation of the individual chemical reactivity of each material using the R3 test by isothermal calorimetry as well as their joint contribution to the heat of hydration and the composition of the reaction products of the paste and the compressive strength of the mortar. The results show how, by understanding the synergy between the materials, a higher level of cement substitutions can be achieved without compromising the mechanical properties of the mortar.  相似文献

Compared with nanosilica collected in a gaseous state, nanosilica sol has great economic value and application significance for improving the performance of concrete and mortar. In this study, the influence of nanosilica sol on the hydration process of different kinds of cement is studied by means of hydration heat analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and other methods, and the properties of mortar such as setting time, mechanical properties and porosity are also studied to characterize the influence of nanosilica sol on the macroscopic properties of mortar. The experimental results show that nanosilica sol can accelerate the hydration rate of two kinds of cement and promote the hydration reaction degree of cement, and this promotion effect increases with the increase in nanosilica sol content. At the same time, nanosilica sol can significantly shorten the setting time of the two kinds of cement, and it is more obvious with the increase in content. Excessive content of nanosilica sol will adversely affect the permeability resistance of mortar. It may be caused by the weak interval formed by nanosilica particle clusters in the mortar matrix, which can be supported by the mortar pore structure distribution test. At the same time, the influence of nanosilica sol on the hydration of the two kinds of cement is different, and the compressive strength of HBSAC cement mortar increases first and then decreases after adding nanosilica sol; However, the compressive strength of P·O 42.5 cement mortar increases gradually after adding nanometer silica sol. This shows that nanosilica sol does not effectively promote the hydration of β-C2S in high belite sulfoaluminate cement (HBSAC) mortar. Based on the above experimental results, it can be concluded that when the content of nanosilica sol is about 1%, it has the best promotion effect on the hydration of the two kinds of cement and the performance of mortar.  相似文献

The use of tricyclic copolymer latex (AMPS) can effectively improve the carbonation resistance of sulphoaluminate cement. This paper investigated polymer AMPS and polycarboxylic acid to modify sulphoaluminate cement materials by exploring the carbonation level of sulphoaluminate cement paste and mortar and the strength before and after carbonation. Then, the optimal dosage of polymer and polycarboxylic acid was obtained so that the carbonation resistance of sulphoaluminate cement reached the best state. The compressive strength was significantly improved by adding AMPS for sulphoaluminate cement paste and mortar. After carbonation, the strength decreased and combined with the carbonation level; it was concluded that the carbonation resistance of sulphoaluminate cement materials was the best when the optimal dosage of AMPS and polycarboxylic acid was 5% and 1.8%, respectively. Due to the addition of AMPS, the hydrated calcium aluminosilicate (C-A-S-H) and hydrated calcium silicate (C-S-H) gels, generated by the hydration of sulphoaluminate cement and the surface of unreacted cement particles, are wrapped by AMPS particles. The water is discharged through cement hydration. The polymer particles on the surface of the hydration product merge into a continuous film, which binds the cement hydration product together to form an overall network structure, penetrating the entire cement hydration phase and forming a polymer cement mortar with excellent structural sealing performance. To prevent the entry of CO2 and achieve the effect of anti-carbonation, adding polycarboxylic acid mainly improves the sample’s internal density to achieve the anti-carbonation purpose.  相似文献

Asphalt mortar is a typical temperature-sensitive material that plays a crucial role in the performance of asphalt mixture. This study evaluates the high- and low-temperature performance of asphalt mortar based on the dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) method. Temperature-sweep tests of asphalt mortars were conducted using the DMA method under fixed strain level, frequency, and heating rate conditions. The dynamic mechanical response curves, characteristic temperature, and other indices were obtained and used to investigate the high- and low-temperature performance of asphalt mortar. The results showed that the phase transition temperatures T1, T0, and Tg can be used to evaluate the low-temperature performance of asphalt mortar. Additionally, they had a good linear relationship, and the evaluation results were consistent. Meanwhile, T2, E60, and tan(δ)max indicators can effectively evaluate the high-temperature performance of asphalt mortar. Asphalt plays a key role in the performance of asphalt mortar. Mortars with neat asphalt A70 and modified asphalt AR had the worst and best high- and low-temperature performances, respectively. Furthermore, the finer gradation improved the low-temperature performance of asphalt mortar, while the coarser gradation improved the high-temperature properties of modified asphalt mortars but had the opposite effect on neat asphalt A70.  相似文献

In this study, the compressive strength and water contact angle of mortar specimens prepared by mixing two types of water repellent with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and rapid-hardening cement mortar were measured before and after surface abrasion. In addition, the hydration products and chemical bonding of cement mortar with the repellents were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) to evaluate the performance of these cement mortar mixtures as repair materials. We found that the fast-hardening cement mortar mixture containing the oligomer water repellent showed the best performance with a high compressive strength and large water contact angle. With the oligomer water repellent, the rapid-hardening cement mortar mixture showed contact angles of 131° and 126° even after a 2 mm abrasion, thereby confirming that the water repellent secured hydrophobicity through strong bonding with the entire cement mortar as well as its surface. The compressive strengths were found to be 34.5 MPa at 3 h and 54.8 MPa at 28 days, confirming that hydration occurred well despite the addition of water repellent.  相似文献

This research studied a new material named modified infrared powder (MIRP) for decreasing the high temperature of asphalt pavements which can help alleviate the urban heat island effect to some extent. Based on the physical apparent density tests of materials and infrared thermal radiation test, the cooling performance of MIRP was obtained. X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy test (SEM) were conducted to analyze the chemical composition and the microstructure of MIRP, respectively. According to the radiant heat transfer theory, a thermal radiation model of the pavement equilibrium temperature was established by microscopic and chemical analysis to study the influence of thermal radiation asphalt mixture and reveal its cooling performance. The results show that the main components of MIRP are metal oxides and nonmetallic oxides which improve its infrared emissivity. Compared with limestone mineral powder asphalt mortar, the asphalt mortar with MIRP had a more compact structure and uniform distribution, and enhanced the overall structural performance of the mixture. The thermal radiation model reveals that the pavement equilibrium temperature combined with the MIRP in asphalt mixture decreases with the increase of the longwave emissivity, and it diminishes with the decrease of the shortwave absorptivity.  相似文献

The effect of the dosage of sulphur-containing tailings (STs) and curing temperature on the properties of M32.5 cement mortar was studied in this work. An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effects of STs with different substitution ratios (0, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%) on the compressive strength experiment, fluidity, expansion ratio, and pore structure of M32.5 cement mortar. The results showed that the addition of STs reduced the fluidity of mortar, and the fluidity decreased with the increase of the STs dosage. The compressive strength of mortars increased at a lower substitution rate (0~20%) but decreased at a higher substitution rate (>20%). Ettringite peaks and new sulfate peaks were found by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation of the microstructure showed that a large number of hydrated products, such as ettringite, formed and filled in the interstitial space, which was conducive to the development of strength. The optimal STs replacement ratio of river sand was 10%. Then, the performance of mortar at curing temperatures of 23 ± 1, 40, 60, and 80 °C was further investigated under the optimal STs replacement ratio. Under high-temperature curing conditions, the early strength of M32.5 cement mortar with STs increased greatly, but the late strength decreased gradually with the increase in curing temperature. The early strength development of the mortar mainly depended on the high speed of hydration reaction, and the late strength variation was mainly affected by hydration products and the pore size distribution. After comprehensive consideration, the optimal curing temperature of M32.5 cement mortar with STs was 40 °C.  相似文献

Adequate asphalt binder film thickness (ABFT) delivers skeletal integrity in recycled asphalt mixtures, resulting in long-lasting roadways when exposed to traffic and environment. The inaccurate measurement of ABFT and the consequences of not having adequate film thickness model has substantially introduced discrepancies in predicting actual performance of recycled asphalt mixtures. Expansion of the ultra-modern expertise and SuperPave requirements necessitate the revision of authentic ABFT at micro-level. The current study identifies the weaknesses of the current methods of estimating ABFT and provides results that are reliable and useful, using modern measurement methods. Using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), this study measures the ABFT around the tiniest particle of 0.2 μm magnitude, entrenched in asphalt mastic in recycled asphalt mixtures. The ABFT, obtained through image analysis, is compared with those obtained through available analytical models. The study utilizes different asphalt mixtures, containing varying proportions of recycled asphalt mixture and rejuvenators. The aggregate, virgin, and recycled binders were characterized in terms of physical and rheological properties, respectively. Marshall mix design was carried out for the conventional and recycled mixture, containing 40%, 50%, and 60% recycled materials, rejuvenated with 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% waste engine oil (WEO) at a mixing temperature of 160 °C, based on viscosity of the virgin and rejuvenated binder. ABFT was assessed through analytical models and image analysis for the aforesaid recycled asphalt mixtures, prepared at optimum binder and rejuvenator content as per protocol outlined in ASTM D1559. The analytical estimation of ABFT, in the aforesaid recycled asphalt mixtures, revealed that the ABFT fluctuates from 6.4 μm to 13.7 microns, with a significant association to recycled asphalt mixture and rejuvenator content. However, the image analysis revealed that the ABFT, in the aforesaid recycled asphalt mixtures, fluctuates from 0.4 μm to 2 microns, without any association to recycled asphalt mixture or rejuvenator content. The image analysis indicated that the recycled asphalt mixtures typically comprise of mortar, happening in uneven shape, and are used to grip large aggregates. The asphalt mastic, a blend of bitumen and mineral filler, was found to be an interlocking agent, used to grasp only fine particles in asphalt mortar. The asphalt binder film was discovered to be a deviating stand-alone entity that only exists around the mineral fillers in the asphalt mastic as a non-absorbed binder, occupying an imprecise space of 0.4 μm to 2 microns, among the filler particles. The current findings will be useful to design asphalt pavements through the aforesaid precise limit of SEM-based ABFT rather than traditionally measured ABFT to predict the actual performance of recycled asphalt mixtures.  相似文献

Coral sand cement (CSC) mortar is increasingly used in reef projects, which is prepared by mixing coral sand with cement and water in certain proportions. Considering that early-age hydration behavior is closely related to the strength and durability of the mortar, the early-age hydration process and micro-morphology of CSC mortars with various water–cement ratios (W/C) and sand–cement ratios (S/C) were studied. A monitoring system based on FBG is proposed in this paper, which uses the high sensitivity and conformability of optical fiber to measure the hydration temperature and internal shrinkage strain simultaneously and continuously. The standard sand cement (SSC) mortar with the same sand gradation and mix proportion is also prepared for comparison. The micro-morphology is observed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) for measurement results’ explanation. The results show that the variation of the hydration temperature and shrinkage strain with hydration time of both CSC mortars and SSC mortars follow a unimodal function. Differently, the peak hydration temperature for CSC is obviously lower than that of SSC. The peak temperature of CSC mortar decreases linearly with the increase in S/C, and the decrease rate of the peak temperature is higher for CSC with small W/C than that with higher W/C. For mortars with lower W/C, the peak shrinkage strain of CSC is larger than that of SSC. Meanwhile, for mortars with higher W/C, the peak shrinkage strain of CSC changes to be lower than that of SSC, which is attributed to the significant water absorption characteristic of CSC. Therefore, as an eco-friendly lightweight aggregate, CS is more suitable than SS for the design of high W/C and alleviating the hydration heat of mass concrete under the meeting of strength.  相似文献

This study aims to comprehensively investigate the rejuvenation efficiency of various self-developed compound rejuvenators on the physical, mechanical, and aging properties of aged bitumen, asphalt mortar, and mixture. The results revealed that the restoration capacity of vacuum distilled-oil rejuvenators on high-and-low temperature performance-grade of aged bitumen is more significant. In contrast, an aromatic-oil based rejuvenator is good at enhancing low-temperature grade and aging resistance. Moreover, the temperature and time of the curing conditions for mixing recycling of asphalt mixture were optimized as 150 °C and 120 min. Furthermore, the sufficient anti-rutting, structural stability, and moisture resistance of recycled asphalt mixture affirmed the rejuvenation efficiency of compound rejuvenators.  相似文献

The hybrid type of pavement called semi-flexible or grouted macadam has gained popularity over the last few decades in various countries, as it provides significant advantages over both rigid and conventional flexible pavements. The semi-flexible pavement surface consists of an open-graded asphalt mixture with high percentage voids into which flowable cementitious slurry is allowed to penetrate due to gravitational effect. Several researchers have conducted laboratory, as well as field, experiments on evaluating the performance of semi-flexible layers using different compositions of cementitious grouts. The composition of grouts (i.e., water/cement ratio, superplasticizer, polymers, admixtures, and other supplementary materials) has a significant effect on the performance of grouts and semi-flexible mixtures. A comprehensive review of cementitious grouts and their effect on the performance of semi-flexible layers are presented and summarized in this review study. The effect of byproducts and other admixtures/additives on the mechanical properties of grouts are also discussed. Finally, recommendations on the composition of cementitious grouts have been suggested.  相似文献

Calcium carbide residue (CCR) is a waste by-product from acetylene gas production. The main component of CCR is Ca(OH)2, which can react with siliceous materials through pozzolanic reactions, resulting in a product similar to those obtained from the cement hydration process. Thus, it is possible to use CCR as a substitute for Portland cement in concrete. In this research, we synthesized CCR and silica fume through a chemical combustion technique to produce a new reactive cementitious powder (RCP). The properties of paste and mortar in fresh and hardened states (setting time, shrinkage, and compressive strength) with 5% cement replacement by RCP were evaluated. The hydration of RCP and OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) pastes was also examined through SEM (scanning electron microscope). Test results showed that in comparison to control OPC mix, the hydration products for the RCP mix took longer to formulate. The initial and final setting times were prolonged, while the drying shrinkage was significantly reduced. The compressive strength at the age of 45 days for RCP mortar mix was found to be higher than that of OPC mortar and OPC mortar with silica fume mix by 10% and 8%, respectively. Therefore, the synthesized RCP was proved to be a sustainable active cementitious powder for the strength enhanced of building materials, which will result in the diversion of significant quantities of this by-product from landfills.  相似文献

Blast furnace ferronickel slag (BFFS) is generated in the production of ferronickel alloys and is used as cement replacement in concrete or mortar. The effectivity in reducing cement consumption and improving performance are limited. By referring to the paste replacement method, this work used BFFS to replace an equal volume of the white Portland cement paste to obtain greater performance enhancement. BFFS was used with five levels of replacement (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%) and four water-to-cement ratios (0.40, 0.45, 0.50, 0.55) were designed. Fluidity, mechanical strength, hydration products, and pore structure of every mixture were measured. The results showed that the workability of the mortars decreased due to the reduced volume of water, but the 28-day compressive strength of the mortars increased, and the cement content of the mortars was also reduced by 33 wt %. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed that there existed a carboaluminate phase, and the presence of the ettringite was stabilized, indicating that the accumulating amount of the hydration products of the mortar increased. Furthermore, the BFFS could consume the portlandite and free water to form a higher amount of chemically bound water due to its pozzolanic activity. A high degree of hydration and a large volume of the hydration products refined the porosity of the hardened mortars, which explained the enhancement of the strength of the mortars. Compared to the cement replacement method, the paste replacement method was more effective in preparing eco-friendly mortar or concrete by recycling BFFS for reducing the cement content of the mortar while improving its strength.  相似文献

The use of steel slag powder instead of filler to prepare asphalt mortar was beneficial to realize the effective utilization of steel slag and improve the performance of asphalt concrete. Nevertheless, the anti-aging properties of steel-slag powder–asphalt mortar need to be further enhanced. This study used antioxidants and UV absorbers in steel-slag powder–asphalt mortar to simultaneously improve its thermal-oxidation and UV-aging properties. The dosage of modifier was optimized by second-generation non-inferior sorting genetic algorithm. Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, a dynamic shear rheometer and the heavy-metal-ion-leaching test were used to evaluate the characteristic functional groups, rheological properties and heavy-metal-toxicity characteristics of the steel-slag-powder-modified asphalt mortar, respectively. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between the amount of modifier and G*, δ, and the softening point. When the first peak appeared for G*, δ, and the softening point, the corresponding dosages of x1 were 2.15%, 1.0%, and 1.1%, respectively, while the corresponding dosage of x2 were 0.25%, 0.76%, and 0.38%, respectively. The optimal value of the modifier dosage x1 was 1.2% and x2 was 0.5% after weighing by the NSGA-II algorithm. The asphalt had a certain physical solid-sealing effect on the release of heavy-metal ions in the steel-slag powder. In addition, the asphalt structure was changed under the synergistic effect of oxygen and ultraviolet rays. Therefore, the risk of leaching heavy-metal ions was increased with the inferior asphalt-coating performance on the steel-slag powder.  相似文献

To meet the needs of the road industry for maintenance operations, a new cement emulsified bitumen mixture (CEBM) with early-strength, self-compacting, and room-temperature construction characteristics was designed. The strength formation mechanism of CEBM was revealed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the surface free energy (SFE) theory. The mechanical properties and road performance of the CEBM were investigated extensively. The results show that before the demulsification of emulsified bitumen, the SFE of the bitumen–aggregate–water three-phase system was reduced due to the replacement of the bitumen–aggregate interface with water. The adhesion work between the emulsified bitumen and the aggregate is negative, which means the adhesion between the emulsified bitumen and the aggregate will not occur spontaneously due to the existence of water. The liquid emulsified bitumen improves the workability of the mixture and ensures that the mixture can be evenly mixed and self-compacted. After demulsification, the work of adhesion between the residual bitumen and the aggregate is positive, which means residual bitumen and aggregate can bond spontaneously. In addition, the hydration products of cement and aggregate form a skeleton, and the emulsified bitumen film wraps and bonds the cement and aggregate together, creating strength. The emulsified bitumen, cement content, and curing conditions have significant effects on the stability of CEBM. The recommended dosage of emulsified bitumen and cement is 8% and 8–10%, respectively. This material integrates the hardening effect of cement and the viscoelastic performance of bitumen and has good workability, mechanical properties, and road performance. Therefore, the CEBM is technically feasible for application to bitumen pavement.  相似文献

This paper discusses studies regarding the impact of fine-ground glass additives on the hydration and properties of alumina cement pastes and mortars. Fine-ground glass was added to pastes and mortars instead of high-alumina cement and calcium aluminate cement in quantities of 5% and 10%. The findings are inconclusive as to the impact of glass on the properties of tested alumina cement types. The effect produced via the addition of glass instead of cement depends on the type of alumina cement used. Adding fine-ground glass to high-alumina cement enhances the paste’s density while improving paste and mortar strength. Using the same additive for calcium aluminate cement reduces its density and strength. The addition of glass to high-alumina cement adversely affects its strength at higher temperatures.  相似文献

The amount of fly ash from the incineration of sewage sludge is increasing all over the world, and its utilization is becoming a serious environmental problem. In the study, a type of sewage sludge ash (SSA) collected directly from the municipal sewage treatment plant was used. Five levels of cement replacement (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% and 20%) and unchanged water-to-binder (w/b) ratio (0.55) were used. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of sewage sludge ash (SSA) on the hydration heat process of cement mortars. The heat of the hydration of cement mortars was monitored by the isothermal calorimetric method for 7 days at 23 °C. The analysis of chemical composition and particle size distribution was performed on the tested material. The tests carried out have shown that SSA particles have irregular grain morphology and, taking into account the chemical composition consists mainly of oxides such as CaO, P2O5, SiO2 and Al2O3. The concentration of these compounds affects the hydration process of cement mortars doped with SSA. In turn, the content of selected heavy metals in the tested ash should not pose a threat to the environment. Calorimetric studies proved that the hydration process is influenced by the presence of SSA in cement mortars. The studies showed that the rate of heat generation decreased (especially in the initial setting period) with the increasing replacement of cement by SSA, which also reduced the amount of total heat compared to the control cement mortar. With increasing mass of the replacement of cement with SSA up to 20%, the 7-day compressive strength of the mortar samples decreases.  相似文献
