Objective.?Hyperuricemia has received much attention and debate recently with regard to its utility as a marker for preeclampsia and as a predictor of adverse maternal–fetal outcome. This investigation was undertaken in patients with severe/superimposed preeclampsia to determine whether the maternal uric acid (UA) level at initial hospital admission is a useful predictor of subsequent adverse maternal and/or perinatal outcomes.

Methods.?Retrospective analysis of all patients diagnosed with severe preeclampsia, superimposed preeclampsia or HELLP syndrome during 2005 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). Clinical and laboratory data were collected, entered and stored electronically in a password protected, secure system.

Results.?Adverse maternal outcomes occurred in 15.3% of 258 patients in the cohort. Mean UA concentration in the absence of adverse maternal outcomes was 342.6?±?77.3 compared to 396.1?±?117.2?μmol/l in pregnancies with complications (p?<?0.001). The positive likelihood ratio (LR) for adverse maternal outcome was 5.3 with UA?≥?76.3 μmol/l and creatinine ≥1.0 mg/dl. LRs rose in association with other abnormal preeclampsia serum markers. Adverse perinatal outcomes occurred in 45.2% of births. The LRs for adverse perinatal outcomes remained unchanged around 1.0. Mean UA was 363.4?±?91.0 compared to 339.0?±?80.9?μmol/l in pregnancies without adverse outcomes (p?=?0.021).

Conclusions.?Maternal hyperuricemia is a better predictor of maternal than perinatal risk and adverse outcome.  相似文献

目的:研究妊娠期高血压疾病中代谢综合征变量的发生情况。方法:前瞻性对比年龄、孕周、产次相匹配的65例妊娠期高血压,60例子痫前期,30例子痫及33例正常妊娠孕妇的各项指标。主要测量指标包括血压、血脂、血糖及尿酸水平。结果:患者年龄19~40岁,平均28.5±4.6岁;妊娠期高血压,子痫前期和子痫患者的血压较对照组明显增加(收缩压P0.01;舒张压P0.01);子痫前期组和子痫组的血浆总胆固醇、甘油三酯、血糖和尿酸均明显高于妊娠期高血压组及对照组(P0.05);妊娠期高血压组、子痫前期组及子痫组代谢综合征的发生率分别为13.8%、23.3%及26.7%。结论:妊娠期高血压疾病患者有代谢综合征的标志,推断两种情况相互关联。  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between plasma adenosine and serum uric acid levels in women with preeclampsia. Maternal arterial blood sampling was performed to measure serum uric acid and plasma adenosine levels in 20 pregnant women complicated by preeclampsia and 22 normal pregnant women at 33-38 weeks of gestation. The average plasma adenosine levels were 0.31 +/- 0.12 micromol/l in the normal pregnant group and 0.45 +/- 0.11 micromol/l in the preeclampsia group. The mean serum uric acid level in women with preeclampsia was 5.9 +/- 0.60 mg/dl, significantly higher than in the normal pregnant women (4.4 +/- 0.69 mg/dl). Positive correlations were found between serum uric acid and plasma adenosine levels in both the group with (r(2) = 0.38, p < 0.05) and the group without (r(2) = 0.54, p < 0.05) preeclampsia. There was also a significant correlation between serum uric acid and plasma adenosine levels on the whole (r(2) = 0.59, p < 0.05). Our results suggest that increased adenosine is a contributing source of preeclamptic hyperuricemia.  相似文献

Objective: Women with chronic kidney disease have an increased risk of developing preeclampsia and its severe complications. Currently, there are no assessments available in order to quantify such risk. The aim of the study is to establish the incidence of superimposed preeclampsia in women with chronic kidney disease according to Serum creatinine (SCr) level. Methods: Pregnant women with chronic kidney disease were retrospectively identified from January 2000 to July 2010. We defined two groups according to SCr: Group 1: SCr ≤ 125 µmol/l; Group 2: SCr > 125 µmol/l. Incidence of preeclampsia, early preeclampsia (delivery <34 weeks), gestational age (GA) at diagnosis and delivery outcome were assessed. Results: Ninety-three nephropatic women were considered for the analysis. Group 2 (n?=?14) compared with Group 1 (n?=?79) had an increased incidence of preeclampsia (78.6% vs. 25.3%; p?<?0.0001), an increased rate of pregnancy complications as early preeclampsia (82% vs. 38%; p?<?0.03), a lower GA at diagnosis (29?±?2 vs. 33?±?1 weeks; p?<?0.04) and a lower GA at delivery (30?±?2 weeks vs. 34?±?1; p?<?0.04). Conclusion: Women with chronic kidney disease and an increased creatinine threshold have a high risk of developing preeclampsia and delivering preterm.  相似文献

Objective.?The aim of this study was to evaluate maternal asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels in pregnancies complicated by isolated fetal intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), in preeclamptic pregnancies with and without IUGR, and in healthy normotensive pregnant women with proper weight fetuses.

Patients and methods.?The study was carried out on 54 normotensive pregnant patients with pregnancy complicated by IUGR, 35 patients with IUGR in the course of preeclampsia, 29 preeclamptic patients with appropriate-for-gestational-age weight infants and 54 healthy normotensive pregnant patients. The ADMA concentrations were evaluated using an ELISA assay.

Results.?The preeclamptic women and normotensive patients with pregnancy complicated by isolated IUGR revealed higher levels of maternal serum ADMA. The mean values of maternal serum ADMA were 0.5730?±?0.1769?μmol/l in the P group, 0.5727?±?0.1756?μmol/l in the PI group, 0.6129?±?0.1517?μmol/l in the IUGR group, and 0.5017?±?0.1116?μmol/l in the control group. The levels of ADMA were additionally higher in the patients with HELLP syndrome and in patients with pregnancy complicated by eclampsia.

Conclusions.?It seems that ADMA is an active agent not only in preeclamptic patients, but also in normotensive pregnant women with isolated fetal IUGR and could be a marker of severity of preeclampsia.  相似文献

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate maternal asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) concentrations at the three trimesters of pregnancy in uncomplicated pregnancies and in women who developed preeclampsia or had small for gestational age infants (SGA) without preeclampsia. Methods: ADMA concentrations were retrospectively determined in the first, second and third trimester of pregnancy in 41 uncomplicated pregnancies, 10 pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia and 14 pregnancies that delivered a SGA baby. ADMA was measured with an ELISA kit. Results: Mean (±SD) concentrations of ADMA (µmol/L) in uncomplicated l pregnancies were: 0.51?±?0.14; 0.52?±?0.13; 0.58?±?0.16 in the three trimesters, respectively. ADMA concentrations in SGA pregnancies were significantly lower in each trimester compared to uncomplicated pregnancies: (0.40?±?0.10, p?=?0.005 1st trim; 0.42?±?0.10, p?=?0.007 2nd trim; 0.45?±?0.10, p?=?0.007 3rd trim). Although pregnancies that developed preeclampsia had higher ADMA concentration in all trimesters compared to uncomplicated pregnancies (0.58?±?0.10; 0.63?±?0.14; 0.68?±?0.11), the difference was statistically significant only in the 2nd trimester (p?=?0.02). Conclusions: Maternal serum ADMA concentration tends to increase during normal pregnancy. Pregnancies with SGA infants had significantly lower ADMA levels in all trimesters of pregnancy. ADMA concentrations in the 2nd trimester was significantly elevated in pregnancies that later developed preeclampsia.  相似文献

Purpose: We aimed to compare the serum autotaxin levels in early- and late- preeclamptic and healthy pregnant patients at a university hospital.

Methods: A total of 55 singleton preeclamptic women who delivered at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty were included in the study. The patients were subdivided into two groups: early-onset preeclampsia (n = 31) and late-onset preeclampsia (n = 24). Demographic and clinical data were compared between early-onset and late-onset preeclamptic patients. The control group was composed of 32 healthy pregnant patients.

Results: The mean autotaxin levels were 1.16 ± 0.97 and 0.7 ± 0.35 ng/ml in the early- and late-onset preeclampsia groups, respectively. Autotaxin levels were significantly higher in early-onset preeclampsia group compared with late-onset preeclampsia group. Autotaxin levels were found to be significantly higher in preeclamptic patients compared with control group. Serum autotaxin levels showed a significant positive correlation with maternal systolic, diastolic blood pressures and uric acid levels.

Conclusion: Autotaxin might be a promising marker for detecting early-onset preeclampsia. However, further studies are necessary to confirm this hypothesis.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess a possible correlation between insulin resistance and uric acid levels in gestational hypertension (GH) and preeclampsia. Fourteen pregnant, nondiabetic women with either GH (n = 7) or preeclampsia (n = 7) and nine pregnant healthy controls in the third trimester were enrolled onto the study. Fasting serum was collected and insulin sensitivity was determined by Homeostasis Model Assessment based on the algorithm developed by Turner and colleagues. Serum samples were also analyzed for creatinine and uric acid levels. Insulin resistance and uric acid levels were compared between hypertensive and control pregnant women, and the association between these two variables was calculated. There were no significant differences in mean age, weight, body mass index, and glucose challenge test between all hypertensive patients and controls. Significant differences were revealed in insulin sensitivity between hypertensive and nonhypertensive pregnant women (45 +/- 31.2% vs. 79.7 +/- 33%; p = 0.018). In our study, uric acid levels were not significantly higher for hypertensive patients (5.46 +/- 0.85 vs. 4.53 +/- 1.4 mg/dL in controls; p = 0.06). The elevated serum uric acid levels were highly correlated to insulin resistance in patients with GH. In contrast, uric acid levels did not correlate with insulin sensitivity in patients with preeclampsia and controls. Insulin resistance is associated with the elevated uric acid levels found in nonproteinuric gestational hypertensive disease.  相似文献

We report five cases of vomiting associated with a very important increase of maternal plasma uric acid (> 595 mmol/l, 100 mg/l) at the third trimester of pregnancy. In all cases, elevation was transitory and regressive with rehydratation. Pregnancies proceeded normally to term and delivered healthy babies. An important rise of plasmatic uric acid during pregnancy can be found in severe hypertensive disorders (preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, acute fatty liver). Nevertheless, it can be related to transient renal insufficiency without any severe pathology. In our five observations, digestive disorders seem to be the reason for this phenomenon and spontaneous prognosis was excellent in all cases.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo evaluate the possible associations between serum Neprilysin (NEP) levels and preeclampsia and mild and severe preeclampsia subgroups.Materials and methodsFifty-five consecutive women with mild preeclampsia and fifty-five consecutive women with severe preeclampsia were compared with 110 approximately gestational age-matched (±1 week) women with an uncomplicated pregnancy.ResultsMean serum NEP was significantly higher in women with preeclampsia compared to that of the gestational age-matched-controls (231.62 ± 65.30 pg/mL vs. 187.75 ± 84.38 pg/mL, p < 0.001). Mean serum NEP was significantly higher in the mild preeclampsia group compared to its gestational age-matched control group (228.84 ± 67.26 pg/mL vs. 186.14 ± 85.09 pg/mL, p = 0.008); and in the severe preeclampsia group compared to its gestational age-matched control group (234.45 ± 63.85 pg/mL vs. 189.29 ± 84.59 pg/mL, p = 0.004). Serum NEP was positively correlated with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, BUN, uric acid, and creatinine.ConclusionMean serum NEP was significantly higher in women with preeclampsia than women with an uncomplicated pregnancy. Further studies are needed to elucidate the possible therapeutic role of NEP inhibitors to treat preeclampsia.  相似文献

目的:探讨胎盘生长因子(PLGF)在子痫前期发病中的作用及其与一氧化氮的关系。方法:选择妊娠期高血压疾病患者45例,其中妊娠期高血压10例,轻度子痫前期12例,重度23例;选择同期正常妊娠妇女20例作为对照组。采用免疫组织化学染色法和逆转录-聚合酶链式反应(RT-PCR)检测两组患者胎盘PLGF蛋白及mRNA的表达。采用硝酸盐还原酶法测定两组胎盘组织NO浓度的变化。结果:(1)免疫组化结果显示,轻度和重度子痫前期的胎盘绒毛合体滋养细胞、绒毛间质PLGF表达均显著低于正常妊娠组(P<0.05),妊娠期高血压组与正常组无差别;PLGF在妊娠期高血压、子痫前期组及正常妊娠组分布范围基本一致,主要分布在绒毛合体滋养细胞和间质细胞胞浆,部分血管合体膜上也有表达;(2)轻、重度子痫前期胎盘组织PLGF mRNA平均灰度分别为3.33±0.39、1.97±0.29,显著低于正常妊娠组的平均灰度4.87±0.60(P<0.01);(3)轻、重度子痫前期胎盘组织中NO浓度分别为8.20±5.56μmol/g、6.46±2.25μmol/g,显著低于对照组18.10±7.12μmol/g(P<0.05);妊娠期高血压组胎盘组织NO浓度与对照组差异无显著性;(4)胎盘组织中胎盘生长因子表达水平与胎盘组织NO浓度呈显著正相关(r=0.54,P<0.05)。结论:子痫前期胎盘组织中胎盘生长因子水平降低,NO浓度下降,可能在子痫前期的发病中起一定作用。  相似文献

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the maternal levels of collectrin in early-onset preeclampsia (EOPE) and late-onset preeclampsia (LOPE). To assess the correlation between serum collectrin levels and blood pressure in humans.

Material and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted including 79 pregnant women, 27 with normal pregnancy, 30 with EOPE and 22 with LOPE. Maternal serum levels of collectrin were measured by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits.

Results: The mean serum collectrin level was significantly lower in women with PE compared with the control group (8.49?±?3.12?ng/ml (EOPE), 9.69?±?3.01?ng/ml (LOPE) versus 11.51?±?4.33?ng/ml) and was found to be the lowest in the EOPE group (8.49?±?3.12?ng/ml). The mean serum urea and uric acid levels were significantly higher in the PE group than the control group. Serum collectrin concentrations did not correlate with maternal age, BMI and serum creatinine levels. However, collectrin concentrations were negatively correlated with systolic blood pressure (r?=??0.284, p?=?.011) and diastolic blood pressure (r?=??0.275, p?=?.014) as well as with maternal serum urea (r?=??0.269, p?=?.017) and uric acid (r?=??0.219, p?=?.049) concentrations.

Conclusion: Maternal serum collectrin levels are significantly lower in patients with preeclampsia than in the control group. There is an inverse correlation between serum collectrin levels and blood pressure.  相似文献

BackgroundAdvanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) as a novel biomarker of oxidative stress has been demonstrated in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The research was to investigate the plasma AOPP level in pre-eclamptic pregnant women and its correlation with 24-h proteinuria collection, cystatin C(CC), uric acid(UA) and creatinine(Cr).MethodsFifty pre-eclamptic women, including 22 mild and 28 severe preeclampsia were enrolled. Twentyfive healthy singleton pregnant women were selected as control. Blood samples were obtained from all groups to measure the levels of AOPP, CC, UA, Cr and other biochemical parameters at admission. Total protein in the 24 h urine collection was measured. Pearson correlation was performed to evaluate the associations between plasma AOPP level and 24-h proteinuria collection, plasma cystatin C, uric acid and creatinine.ResultsThe means of AOPP levels were significantly different among severe, mild pre-eclampsia and normotensive pregnant women (88.6 ± 10.0 μmmol/L, 72.1 ± 11.1 μmmol/L and 48.7 ± 11.3 μmmol/L). The means of cystatin C levels were significantly different among severe, mild pre-eclampsia and normotensive pregnant women (1.8 ± 0.6 μmmol/L, 1.2 ± 0.3 μmmol/L and 1.0 ± 0.2 μmmol/L). Mild, severe pre-eclampsia and control groups did not differ significantly from each other with respect to uric acid and creatinine. Significant positive correlation between AOPP and 24-h proteinuria excretion in preeclamptic pregnant women was found in mild and severe preeclamptic pregnant women (r = 0.792). Significant positive correlation between AOPP and cystatin C was found in normal and preeclamptic pregnant women (r = 0.521).ConclusionPlasma AOPP level had a significant positive correlation with 24-h proteinuria excretion and cystatin C. Further research about the relevance between the level of AOPP and the onset of preeclampsia was needed in order to have a profound prospective in oxidative stress and preeclampsia.  相似文献

Objective: To measure plasma levels of C-type natriuretic peptide in women with normal pregnancies and those complicated by gestational hypertension and preeclampsia.Methods: We collected venous plasma samples from 20 women with normal pregnancies, 15 with gestational hypertension, and nine with preeclampsia. Gestational ages ranged from 26–39 weeks. We measured C-type natriuretic peptide concentrations by radioimmunoassay. Statistical comparisons were made by one-way analysis of variance and Tukey test.Results: The mean plasma concentration of C-type natriuretic peptide in the women with normal pregnancy was 7.1 ± 2.5 pg/mL, in those with gestational hypertension 9.6 ± 4.2 pg/mL, and in those with preeclampsia 8.1 ± 2.4 pg/mL. There were no statistically significant differences between groups. The statistical power to detect a difference of 3 pg/mL at the 5% significance level was 78% for the group with gestational hypertension and 64% for the preeclamptic group.Conclusion: Our results suggest that C-type natriuretic peptide plasma levels are not significantly different in normal pregnancies and those complicated by gestational hypertension or preeclampsia. In hypertensive pregnancy disorders, C-type natriuretic peptide showed a distinct course compared with atrial natriuretic peptide and brain natriuretic peptide.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to measure serum urate, tocopherol and ascorbate and to calculate total radical trapping antioxidant potential (TRAP) in pre-eclampsia. METHODS: Study samples were taken from 25 pre-eclamptic, 25 normotensive pregnant and 25 non-pregnant healthy females for measuring uric acid, vitamin C and E, total sulfhydryl group. Also lipid peroxidation product malonaldehyde (MDA), the superoxide generation (NBT reduction) were estimated and TRAP was calculated. Data were analyzed statistically using Student's t-test. RESULT: Pre-eclamptic women had significantly increased MDA levels, superoxide generation and uric acid levels as compared to control subjects (P<0.001). Vitamin C and E and total thiols were lower in pre-eclampsia as compared to control subjects (P<0.001). TRAP was significantly higher in pre-eclampsia. CONCLUSION: TRAP provides a means of assessing the total capacity of the chain-breaking antioxidants to prevent lipid peroxidation in plasma.  相似文献

Abstract

Aim: To investigate the role of dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis in preeclamptic and idiopathic fetal growth restricted (FGR) pregnancies.

Material and method: In this prospective case-control study, a total of 110 singleton pregnancies with FGR (study group) (51 preeclamptic and 59 idiopathic FGR’s cases) were compared with 68 healthy pregnant controls at the same gestational weeks (control group). For serum disulfide-thiol homeostasis, a newly used method described by Erel and Neselioglu was used.

Results: Serum native thiol and total thiol levels were lower in FGR pregnancies (285.63?±?55.92?µmol/L, 324.41?±?44.18?µmol/L, respectively) than control group (324.41?±?44.18?µmol/L, 362.98?±?51.43?µmol/L, p?<?.001, p?=?.004, respectively). In subgroup analysis, only preeclamptic FGR’s have lower native and total thiol levels (254.41?±?59.55, 324.41?±?44.18?µmol/L, respectively) compare to both idiopathic FGR’s and control’s. There was no difference in native and total thiol levels with idiopathic FGR’s with controls. Idiopathic FGR’s have higher levels of disulfide than preeclamptic FGR’s (21.72?±?17.72 versus 16.80?±?11.20?µmol/L). The serum albumin and total protein levels were positively and spot urine protein/creatinine ratio, 24-h urine protein levels were negatively correlated with native thiol and total thiol levels.

Conclusion: The balance of thiol-disulfide homeostasis was shifted and native and total thiol levels were decreased only in preeclamptic FGR pregnancies. The serum disulfide level was increased in idiopathic FGR pregnancies compare to preeclamptic FGR pregnancies which may be a sign of oxidative stress in idiopathic FGR pregnancies with normal thiol pool.  相似文献

Objective: To determine the serum tenascin-C (TN-C) levels in cases with mild and severe preeclampsia.

Methods: Pregnant women were divided into three groups, namely healthy pregnants (Group 1, n?=?20), pregnants with mild preeclampsia (Group 2, n?=?20) and pregnants with severe preeclampsia (Group 3, n?=?20). The groups were formed so as to match each other in terms of gestational week. From each pregnant woman, pre- and post-delivery blood samples were obtained to measure serum TN-C levels. The data were evaluated using the Kruskall–Wallis variance analysis. For the obtained values of p?<?0.05, the groups were compared in pairs. A p value of <?0.017 was accepted as significant.

Results: In Groups 1, 2 and 3, the prepartum TN-C levels were 5.02?±?0.4?µg/ml, 12.8?±?2.9?µg/ml and 33.8?±?11.7?µg/ml, and in the postpartum TN-C levels were 4.7?±?0.1?µg/ml, 11.7?±?1.8?µg/ml and 50.6?±?33.8?µg/ml, respectively. There was a significant difference between the groups in terms of the prepartum and postpartum TN-C levels (p?<?0.017, Mann–Whitney U [MWU] test). There was also a significant difference in the prepartum TN-C levels between Groups 2 and 3 (p?<?0.017, MWU test).

Conclusions: The prepartum and postpartum TN-C levels were significantly higher in mild and severe preeclampsia than those in healthy pregnants.  相似文献

Renal involvement associated with preeclampsia is well investigated, especially from the aspect of glomerular lesion and coagulation. On the other hand, only a few studies on tubular dysfunction during normal pregnancy and preeclampsia have been reported. The first study was carried out to clarify and estimate the chronological changes in tubular function. Pregnant women without obvious tubular dysfunction and toxemia (group A) were investigated using serum Cl, Na minus Cl (Na-Cl index), uric acid and urinary beta 2-microglobulin (u-beta-MG) at the 10th, 20th, 30th and 36th weeks of gestation. The second study was carried out to determine the significance of tubular dysfunction accompanied by preeclampsia. Patients with severe preeclampsia (group B) and normal pregnancy (group C) were examined by the same index of tubular dysfunction. The diagnosis of severe preeclampsia was confirmed with hypertension (over 170/110 mmHg), proteinuria (beyond 3 g/day) and severe edema. The following results were obtained: Urinary beta-MG and serum Cl increased during the third trimester in group A, but the Na-Cl index decreased. The serum uric acid concentration increased during the third trimester in group A. Tubular dysfunction was evident during the third trimester in normal pregnancy. Every index of tubular dysfunction including u-beta-MG, serum Cl, Na-Cl index and uric acid in group B was significantly higher than in group C. In group B, 4 fetuses died and 7 out of 15 cases required Cesarean sections. The critical line of tubular dysfunction for fetal prognosis was Cl 110 mEq/l, Na-Cl index 28 mEq/l, uric acid 6.0 mg/dl and u-beta-MG 1,000 micrograms/l.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Women with chronic hypertension are at increased risk for superimposed preeclampsia. We developed a prediction algorithm for superimposed preeclampsia using clinical and laboratory information that were measured early in pregnancy. STUDY DESIGN: A secondary analysis of data that were collected from 110 women with chronic hypertension who were enrolled in a trial of calcium supplementation was performed. Blood pressure, the renin-angiotensin system, and calcium metabolism were assessed at 12, 20, 28, and 36 weeks of gestation and 6 weeks after delivery. Multivariable logistic regression was used to develop the predictive model. RESULTS: Thirty-seven women had superimposed preeclampsia. The final model included systolic blood pressure, serum uric acid, and plasma renin activity, which were all measured at 20 weeks of gestation. Women with high systolic blood pressure (>140 mm Hg), elevated uric acid (>3.6 mg/dL), and low plasma renin activity (<4 ng/mL/hr) had an 86% probability of having superimposed preeclampsia. Women with 2 risk factors had a 62% probability of superimposed preeclampsia, and women with only 1 risk factor had a 30% to 40% probability of superimposed preeclampsia. CONCLUSION: We developed a prediction algorithm that can be validated in future studies for superimposed preeclampsia for women with chronic hypertension.  相似文献

Objective

To measure erythrocyte folate content and serum folic acid and homocysteine (Hcy) levels in preeclamptic primigravidae teenagers living at high altitude.

Methods

Measured analytes were compared to those found in normal teen controls.

Results

Teenagers complicated with preeclampsia displayed significantly lower hematocrit and erythrocyte folic acid levels with higher serum Hcy levels as compared to controls (36.40 ± 4.90 vs. 38.99 ± 2.89 %, 493.80 ± 237.30 vs. 589.90 ± 210.60 ng/mL, and 7.29 ± 2.52 vs. 5.97 ± 1.41 μmol/L, respectively, p < 0.05). There was a non-significant trend for lower serum folic acid levels among preeclampsia teenagers. Serum and erythrocyte folic acid levels positively correlated in preeclampsia teenagers, and levels of both analytes inversely correlated with Hcy levels.

Conclusion

This pilot study found that teenagers complicated with preeclampsia living at higher altitude displayed lower erythrocyte folate content in addition to higher serum Hcy levels. More research is warranted to determine the clinical implications of these findings.  相似文献
