MULTIPLE AGMINATED PIGMENTED SPITZ NEVI (MIMICKING ACRAL LENTIGINOUS MALIGNANT MELANOMA AND DYSPLASTIC NEVUS) IN AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN GIRL

Background. Reed's nevi are distinguished from Spitz tumors by their significant melanogenesis and growth pattern. They may be confused with melanoma on clinical and histologic grounds. Case Report. An unsual case in which multiple agminated Reed's nevi mimicked acral lentiginous malignant melanoma in an African-American girl is presented. A critical review of the literature is presented to assist in the diagnosis. Conclusions. Awareness of this entity and of its possible clinical presentations and judicious application of conventional hematoxylin-eosin microscopic criteria remain the most useful methods to bring the correct diagnosis in most instances. Mutilating or excessive surgery may be avoided for most cases of pigmented spindle and epithelioid cell nevus.     

HAIR FOLLICLE NEVUS

Four cases of hair follicle nevi are described. Hair follicle nevus is an extremely rare hamartoma occurring on the face, which has had no clear histopathologic definition until now. A short review of the clinicopathologic features of this disease is presented.     

NEVUS LIPOMATOSUS CUTANEOUS SUPERFICIALIS

ABSTRACT: Nevus lipomatosus cutaneus superficialis (Hoffman-Zurhelle) is a distinct clinical entity. A case is reported in which the lesions were large, appeared early in childhood and were linear in distribution along the natal cleft.     

MALIGNANT CHANGE IN A VERRUCOUS NEVUS

ABSTRACT: A 41-year-old man developed squamous-cell carcinoma within a verrucous nevus of linear distribution of a long duration. Controversial cases have been reported in the literature. Such malignant change in verrucous nevus is extremely rare.     

TRANSEPITHELIAL ELIMINATION OF NEVUS CELL NESTS

Three hundred and three biopsy specimens of nevocellular nevus were histologically examined from the point of view of the elimination phenomenon. Transepidermal elimination of nevus cell nests was observed in 6 cases. The incidence ratio of the elimination phenomenon was 5.4% in 111 nevi with junctional activity. There was a correlation between histological type of nevocellular nevus and patient age. With aging, the number of cases of both compound and junctional types tended to decrease, whereas the proportion of the intradermal type tended to increase. The elimination phenomenon may play an important role in the histological transition of nevocellular nevus with aging.
