Background: Conventional procedures including botulinum toxin and filler injections have their limitations in improving deep wrinkles and decreasing tissue laxity, and possess the propensity for vascular accidents. Absorbable thread is a recently commercialized field, but there is little evidence on comparative superiority. Objectives: We observed the effects of polydiaxanone (PDO) threads with different number of strands in relation to collagen production and histopathology in a rat model. Materials and methods: Dorsal skin of rat was divided into five different compartments and four different PDO threads and monofilament poly-lactic acid (PLA) thread were inserted. Tissue samples were obtained at week 1, 2, and 12 after the procedure for histopathologic review and real-time PCR for quantification of collagen. Results: Multiple PDO filaments produced more collagen at 2 weeks. Single-stranded PLA thread insertion resulted in more Col1α1 levels than the double PDO thread and also showed the most Col1α3 production at week 2. The amount of collagen showed a sharp decline at week 12. Histologic evaluation showed retained threads surrounded by fibrous capsule-like structure at week 12. Conclusion: We were able to observe more collagen production in multiple stranded PDO threads compared to a single strand and that increasing number of threads leads to more collagen synthesis.  相似文献

BackgroundFace-lifting procedures are often performed to hide the effects of aging. Thread-lifting, a minimally invasive technique for the correction of facial aging, has become increasingly popular, and various materials for the procedure have been developed.ObjectiveThis study compared tissue responses to two types of threading sutures placed under rat skin: polypropylene (PP) monofilament mesh suspension thread (a novel face-lifting material) and polydioxanone (PDO) barbed thread.MethodsEight rats each were assigned to the PP monofilament mesh suspension, PDO barbed thread, and control groups. Tissue reactions were evaluated 28 days after subcutaneous loading of the materials.ResultsSignificant increases in tensile strength and the mean area occupied by collagen fibers were evident in skin loaded with PDO barbed thread and PP monofilament mesh suspension thread compared to control skin (p<0.05). Compared to sites loaded with PDO barbed thread, those loaded with PP monofilament mesh suspension thread showed a significant increase in the number of collagen fibers and a lower grade of inflammation (p<0.05).ConclusionPP monofilament mesh suspension thread has skin-rejuvenating effects comparable to those of PDO barbed thread, but induces a less severe inflammatory response. This indicates that it is a safe and effective material for use in thread-lifting procedures on aging skin.  相似文献

Background

Eyebrow region is a dynamic region, and it has a thinner skin prone to wrinkles and sagging. Descended brows could be repositioned immediately with fewer complications by the use of the threads. Despite all its advantages, the main drawback of absorbable thread lift is its short duration of lifting effect.

Aims

This report aims to describe our thread lift technique we have implemented to counteract the descent of the brows and evaluate our results in 50 patients.

Patients/Methods

A retrospective chart review was carried out over a period of 1 year from September 2019 to 2020 for the patients who underwent thread lifting for eyebrows in a private clinic in Ankara. Complications after the procedure, durability of the results, global esthetic improvement scale (GAIS) score, and patient satisfaction survey scores were recorded.

Results

The study group was composed of 50 female patients with a median age of 34 years. The median duration of the procedure is 15 months. Nine (18%) patients experienced complications related to the procedure including ecchymosis, edema, erythema, skin dimpling, and pain. Three weeks after the procedure, the position of the eyebrows of eight (16%) patients were improved, 18 (36%) patients were much improved, and 24 (48%) patients were very much improved according to GAIS.

Conclusions

So far, the most disappointing feature of the threads was the poor long-term sustainability of the outcomes. Our thread lift technique for brows offers a significant improvement in the position of the eyebrows in a short time with decreased downtime. More importantly, it can be possible to improve the longevity of the results with this approach.  相似文献

Background

There is an increasing demand for facial skin rejuvenation. Specialized aesthetic skincare treatments may be one of the first steps to help prevent or treat facial signs of aging. This article discusses aesthetic skin care for facial skin rejuvenation, particularly data on two creams containing Macrocystis pyrifera ferment.

Methods

The authors convened a dermatology advisory board to discuss challenges and practices in using skincare for facial rejuvenation, combining their expert opinion and experience on facial rejuvenation with preclinical and clinical data on two creams containing Macrocystis pyrifera ferment and a review of the literature.

Results

Preclinical and clinical studies on Macrocystis pyrifera ferment and two creams containing the ferment exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and healing properties. In preclinical studies, the ferment demonstrated collagen type I enhancing properties in ex vivo skin models, and skin cells treated with the ferment migrated faster than untreated cells in the in vitro study. In clinical studies measuring visible anti-inflammatory activity, the ferment alone and the ferment-containing products significantly decreased erythema, and in anti-aging studies, they improved visible skin aging parameters. Finally, in clinical studies on the stratum corneum, the two creams increased moisture levels and decreased transepidermal water loss (TEWL), reflecting healing by enhancing barrier strength and recovery.

Conclusions

The Macrocystis pyrifera ferment and creams containing the ferment are effective skin care treatment products to decrease the visible effects of inflammation and signs of aging while promoting healing by enhancing barrier resilience and recovery.  相似文献

Background

Skin aging is a complex multifactorial progressive process. With age, intrinsic and extrinsic factors cause the loss of skin elasticity, with the formation of wrinkles, resulting in skin sagging through various pathways. A combination of multiple bioactive peptides could be used as a treatment for skin wrinkles and sagging.

Objectives

This study aimed to evaluate the cosmetic efficacy of a multi-peptide eye serum as a daily skin-care product for improving the periocular skin of women within the ages of 20–45 years.

Methods

The stratum corneum skin hydration and skin elasticity were assessed using a Corneometer CM825 and Skin Elastometer MPA580, respectively. The PRIMOS CR technique based on digital strip projection technology was used for skin image and wrinkle analysis around the “crow's feet” area. Self-assessment questionnaires were filled on Day 14 and 28 of product use.

Results

This study included 32 subjects with an average age of 28.5 years. On Day 28, there was a significant decrease in the number, depth, and volume of wrinkles. Skin hydration, elasticity, and firmness increased continuously during the study period, consistent with typical anti-aging claims. A majority of the participants (75.00%) expressed overall satisfaction with their skin appearance after using the product. Most participants noted a visible skin improvement, with an increase in skin elasticity and smoothness, and confirmed the extensibility, applicability, and temperance of the product. No adverse reactions related to product use were observed.

Conclusions

The multi-peptide eye serum uses a multi-targeted mechanism against skin aging to improve the skin appearance, making it an ideal choice for daily skincare.  相似文献

Background

Thread lifting is a minimally invasive aesthetic procedure that lifts and realigns sagging tissue. Definisse double-needle threads are the latest fourth generation absorbable, monofilament, suspension barbed threads of synthetic origin with convergent bidirectional barbs. Definisse thread produces dual action; mechanical action gives a lifting effect and over a period, it promotes histological revitalizing action.

Objectives

To evaluate the real-world efficacy and safety of Definisse double-needle threads for lower facial lifting for jaw line reshaping in Indian patients.

Methods

This is an observational, retrospective study involving patients who underwent treatment for lower-face reshaping using Definisse double-needle 12 cm threads.

Results

Fifty patients with a mean age of 47.44 years were included in the study with an average follow-up of 5.14 months. All the patients have undergone Jawline Reshaping (JR) procedure, while 70% of patients also underwent Malar Reshaping (MR) technique simultaneously. Mean of Physician and Subject Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (PGAIS and SGAIS) showed improvement immediately after the procedure (mean scores 2.82 and 2.7, respectively) and showed further improvement at the follow-up (3.72 and 3.58, respectively). Moreover, most of the patients immediately after the procedure rated the improvement in PGAIS and SGAIS as “much improved” compared to pre-procedure appearance (78% and 66%, respectively), while, at follow-up, 76% and 66% of the patients, respectively, rated “improved very much” compared to pre-procedure appearance.

Conclusion

Current study has demonstrated the effectiveness of the latest Definisse threads in Indian patients in performing tissue repositioning to provide a noticeable lifting effect. Procedure was also well tolerated and none of the patients developed serious complications.  相似文献

Background

Neck skin is thinner and has a more delicate dermal layer than facial skin. The studied product was specifically formulated for the neck combining a hydrating delivery system with a trifunctional corrective technology composed of 0.2% pure retinol, 2.5% tripeptide concentrate, and 5.0% glaucine complex to help improvement in signs of aging.

Objectives

To evaluate cosmetic and histologic changes 3 months after treatment using immunostains for Type I collagen, Type III collagen, and glycosaminoglycan (GAGS). In addition, overall clinical improvement in photoaged skin was measured by both Griffith's photonumeric photoaging scale, photographic improvement, and questionnaires.

Methods

This study was an open-label, blinded clinical trial evaluating a combined retinol, tripeptide, and glaucine containing cream in the treatment of photo-aged skin. The study enrolled a total of 20 healthy male or female subjects, who applied the product for 3 months to their face and neck.

Results

Clinical as well histologic changes were consistent with improvement in all 20 subjects.

Conclusion

Use of a combined retinol, tripeptide, and glaucine containing cream led to both clinical and histologic improvement of phototoaging.  相似文献

Background

No studies have yet been undertaken to determine the effect of aloe gel on the clinical signs and biochemical changes of aging skin.

Objective

We wanted to determine whether dietary aloe vera gel has anti-aging properties on the skin.

Methods

Thirty healthy female subjects over the age of 45 were recruited and they received 2 different doses (low-dose: 1,200 mg/d, high-dose: 3,600 mg/d) of aloe vera gel supplementation for 90 days. Their baseline status was used as a control. At baseline and at completion of the study, facial wrinkles were measured using a skin replica, and facial elasticity was measured by an in vivo suction skin elasticity meter. Skin samples were taken before and after aloe intake to compare the type I procollagen and matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1) mRNA levels by performing real-time RT-PCR.

Results

After aloe gel intake, the facial wrinkles improved significantly (p<0.05) in both groups, and facial elasticity improved in the lower-dose group. In the photoprotected skin, the type I procollagen mRNA levels were increased in both groups, albeit without significance; the MMP-1 mRNA levels were significantly decreased in the higher-dose group. Type I procollagen immunostaining was substantially increased throughout the dermis in both groups.

Conclusion

Aloe gel significantly improves wrinkles and elasticity in photoaged human skin, with an increase in collagen production in the photoprotected skin and a decrease in the collagen-degrading MMP-1 gene expression. However, no dose-response relationship was found between the low-dose and high-dose groups.  相似文献

Background

Traditional middle and lower facelifts are not suitable for patients with mild skin laxity or who wish to avoid incision scars.

Objective

We present the stab access fascia suspension lift (SAFS-lift) technique, which does not require regular skin incisions, as a reliable surgical facelift strategy for the lower and middle face.

Methods

From September 2020 to September 2021, 38 patients underwent SAFS-lift. SAFS-lift involved (1) incomplete subcutaneous undermining with hydrodissection-assisted tunneling; (2) complete subcutaneous undermining with a dissecting cannula in the zygomatic buccal groove area and hollow below zygomatic arch; and (3) maximal firm superficial musculoaponeurotic system suspension with polydioxanone barbed threads in loops. All patients evaluated the outcome according to the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale. Four plastic surgeons evaluated postsurgery result with a five-point Likert scale (5 = excellent, 4 = good, 3 = fair, 2 = no change, and 1 = worse).

Results

Thirty-six patients were successfully enrolled. The mean follow-up period was 14.72 ± 3.89 months. No patients showed visible scarring 6 months after surgery. The minor complication rate was 19.4%. They all subsided within 1–6 weeks without treatment. No infection, hematoma, seroma, or facial nerve injury was observed. Patients’ outcome ratings were 4.22 ± 0.58 (3 months), 4.69 ± 0.46 (6 months), and 4.69 ± 0.54 (1 year). Surgeons' outcome scoring was 3.98 ± 0.95.

Conclusions

Stab access fascia suspension-lift is a predictable, effective, and safe facelift technique that can be performed without making noticeable incisions and resecting the skin.  相似文献

Background

Facial wrinkles and sagging are the most visible signs of aging and can cause profound distress. Microneedle fractional radiofrequency (MFR) is a minimally invasive procedure, which utilizes both microneedling and radiofrequency energy to rejuvenate the skin.

Objective

To describe the safety and efficacy of a temperature-controlled MFR device on facial fine lines and laxity.

Patients and Methods

A retrospective chart & histology review was performed on individuals who received bipolar MFR for facial rejuvenation. A total of 15 Koreans with a median age of 46 years were included. All participants underwent a single treatment session. The results were assessed objectively using serial photography and subjectively based on the participants' satisfaction scores. Histologic changes before, immediately after MFR and at 4 months follow-up was examined. Complications were also recorded.

Results

Partially denatured collagen fibers and dermal shrinkage was observed immediately after MFR whereas an increase in elastin and collagen was noted at 4 months follow-up. 86.7% of recipients considered the results satisfactory. Consensus ratings by two independent dermatologists on the objective outcomes at 4-month follow-up were very much improved (53.3%), much improved (26.7%) and improved (20%). Treatment was well tolerated and did not cause any significant long-lasting discomfort.

Conclusion

Temperature-controlled bipolar MFR is a minimally invasive treatment option to consider for facial fine lines and laxity via neo-collagenesis and neo-elastogenesis. The procedure was safe and clinically effective.  相似文献

Background

The photo-aged facial skin is characterized by various unique features such as dark spots, wrinkles, and sagging. Elderly people, particularly Asians, tend to show a yellowish skin color change with photo-aging. However, there has been no analytical study conducted on this unique skin color change of the aged facial skin.

Objective

The purpose of the present study is to examine whether the carbonyl modification in the dermal protein is involved in the yellowish color change that occurs in the photo-aged skin.

Methods

Normal skin samples excised from the face, abdomen and buttock of variously aged Japanese were separated into the epidermal and the dermal portions. These skin samples were histologically examined for carbonyl modification. Moreover, an in vitro constructed dermis model composed of a contracted collagen gel was treated with acrolein or 4-hydroxynonenal. All these samples were also studied colorimetrically.

Results

The dermal samples obtained from the photo-aged facial skin exhibited an appearance of yellowish color, whereas neither the facial epidermis nor the dermis obtained from the abdomen or buttock showed such a yellowish discoloration. The upper layer of the dermis that revealed the yellowish color showed elastosis whose elastic fibers were found to colocalize with carbonyl protein as detected by a labeled hydrazide, as well as by an immunohistochemical examination using the antibody against acrolein adduct. Experimental induction of carbonyl modification in a dermis model in vitro by a long-term treatment with acrolein or 4-hydroxynonenal was found to show the appearance of the yellowish change which was also proven by an increase in b* value of colorimetry. It was more pronounced than that induced by glycation.

Conclusion

Our present results strongly suggest that carbonyl modification of the dermal protein is involved in the production of the yellowish color change that is noted in the photo-aged facial skin.  相似文献

Background: Thread-lifting rejuvenation procedures have evolved again, with the development of absorbable threads. Although they have gained popularity among plastic surgeons and dermatologists, very few articles have been written in literature about absorbable threads. This study aims to evaluate two years’ outcome of thread lifting using absorbable barbed threads for facial rejuvenation. Methods: Prospective comparative stud both objectively and subjectively and follow-up assessment for 24 months. Results: Thread lifting for face rejuvenation has significant long-lasting effects that include skin lifting from 3–10 mm and high degree of patients’ satisfaction with less incidence rate of complications, about 4.8%. Augmented results are obtained when thread lifting is combined with other lifting and rejuvenation modalities. Conclusion: Significant facial rejuvenation is achieved by thread lifting and highly augmented results are observed when they are combined with Botox, fillers, and/or platelet rich plasma (PRP) rejuvenations.  相似文献

Introduction

Changes in brow positioning are one of the first facial aging signs. A more beautiful and younger look can be achieved by repositioning the tissues involved in brow descent and sagging eyelids.

Methods

We report the outcome of eyebrow thread lifting in a series of patients who came to our clinic to improve their gaze. Response to treatment was assessed at 6- and 12-months using FACE-Q upperlids and eyebrow/forehead scales.

Results

A total of 38 patients with mild-to-moderate brow ptosis or without ptosis underwent eyebrow thread lifting (mean age 35.5, all female). No serious complications were observed during or after treatment. All patients were satisfied with the outcome of the intervention. Mean FACE-Q scores improved at six months compared with baseline. A statistically significant increase in mean FACE-Q scores was still seen at 12 months and was more evident in younger women. Patients were able to go back to their daily lives the day after the procedure.

Conclusion

Eyebrow thread lifting is a minimally invasive procedure able to overcome mild-to-moderate ptosis with excellent aesthetic results. In the absence of ptosis, thread lifting is a good choice to reposition the brow and improve the gaze. The technique is simple to perform and safe.  相似文献

Background

Effective anti-aging treatments are an unmet consumer need.

Aim

Ex vivoand clinical tests have evaluated the efficacy of a topical facial serum containing a proprietary blend of neuropeptides, proteins, amino acids, and marine extracts on aged skin.

Methods

In the ex vivo study the facial serum was compared to a commercially marketed face serum and to an untreated control on skin explants using microrelief, smoothness, and epidermal thickness endpoints. The 12 weeks monadic clinical study was designed for the test product to be used on the whole face. Subjects functioned as their own control; evaluating change from baseline. Skin was evaluated clinically by a Dermatologist for tolerability and for efficacy. Also part of the product assessment was skin hydration measurements, imaging, and a subject questionnaire.

Results

The facial serum improved skin condition by significant reductions in skin surface area occupied by microfolds and in skin roughness. Additionally, it increased epidermal thickness as compared to the untreated control as well as the commercially marketed face serum. The facial serum provided a statistically increased skin moisturization compared to pretreatment values. Dermatological evaluation of the skin concluded that there were statistically and clinically significant improvements in skin smoothness, wrinkles severity, fine lines visibility and lifting, and tightening effects at crow's feet area, forehead, and upper lip.

Conclusion

A facial serum, containing a proprietary blend of neuropeptides, proteins, amino acids, and marine extracts, has been shown to improve the overall quality of aged skin in a series of ex vivo and clinical tests.  相似文献

Introduction

GHK-Cu and HA are two commonly used skin care ingredients, both of which were reported to enhance collagen synthesis. This work aims to investigate their co-effect on collagen regulation.

Materials and Methods

In cell experiments, human dermal fibroblasts were treated by a series of GHK-Cu and HA combinations, and the expressions of collagen I, IV, and VII were measured by qRT-PCR. The best formula screened out from cell experiments were further studied by ex-vivo skin model, and the content of collagen IV was quantified by immunofluorescence method.

Results

The combination GHK-Cu and HA was found to promote the generation of collagen I, IV, and VII. Especially, they form a synergy on collagen IV. At the ratio of 1:9, GHK-Cu and LMW HA deliver the strongest effect to elevate collagen IV synthesis by 25.4 times in cell test and 2.03 times in ex-vivo skin test.

Conclusion

The co-effect of GHK-Cu and HA was revealed. Their synergy brings an insight to anti-aging technology: choosing proper molecular weight of HA and managing its ratio with GHK-Cu could enhance DEJ health via stimulating collagen IV synthesis.  相似文献

Background

Carboxytherapy is one of the most popular procedures used in dermatology. The treatments are known to be minimally invasive and highly effective for various skin disorders. Therefore, the research carried out in the paper is purposeful and addresses an important area of aesthetic therapies.

Aims

Objective, apparatus-based assessment of the effect of carboxytherapy on skin elasticity around the eyes.

Patients/Methods

The study included a group of 39 Caucasian individuals aged 35–55 years. Participants were subjected to a series of five carboxytherapy treatments of eye area at weekly intervals. The Cutometer measuring probe was used to assess skin elasticity. Additionally, photographic documentation was out using the Fotomedicus system.

Results

In this study, statistically significant increase in R2 parameter was found as the result of applied treatment. This parameter is considered to be the most important indicator of changes in skin elasticity. In 29 out of 39 subjects, the carboxytherapy treatment significantly improved skin tension and elasticity. Such therapy may also exert a beneficial effect on flexibility since in 28 participants the favorable change in the R7 parameter was visible.

Conclusions

The objective analysis of the impact of carboxytherapy treatment on parameters determining skin elasticity revealed that this therapy can be used as an anti-aging method in the eye area. Obtained results are in agreement with other biochemical, histological, and photographical documentation analyses of the effect of carboxytherapy on skin, performed by independent researchers.  相似文献

Background: Forehead wrinkles are the result of contracture of the frontalis muscle and the skin aging process. Currently, hyaluronic acid filler and botulinum toxin are the main materials used for correction of these wrinkles. In addition, polydioxanone (PDO) thread has also been applied for this treatment. Objective: In order to evaluate the efficacy and safety of multi-PDO scaffold in animal and human skin, we tested PDO insertion in rat and mini-pig models and human volunteers with forehead wrinkles. Methods: A stent-shaped multi-PDO scaffold was inserted under the panniculus carnosus of rat dorsal skin and the subcutaneous layer of mini-pig dorsal skin and forehead wrinkles in three human volunteers. Results: Histological analysis at 12 weeks revealed evidence of de novo collagen synthesis, which was consistent with clinical results on photo evaluation. Conclusion: Stent-shaped multi-PDO scaffolds may be another effective and safe treatment modality for reduction of forehead wrinkles.  相似文献

Background

In recent years, the thread-lifting technique has become widely used in clinical settings. Several thread products are used in clinical practice, and there are many differences between products in terms of many aspects.

Methods

Six commercial thread products were collected and evaluated. The general structure, microstructure, elastic modulus, and strength were evaluated using microscopies and tensile testing in vitro. Seventy-two female rats were divided into six groups. Tissue samples were harvested and histologically evaluated at 1st, 4th, 8th, and 12th week using hematoxylin and eosin and Masson's trichrome staining.

Results

There were differences between products in terms of barb shape, microstructure, elasticity, and strength, and that could be attributed to the materials and barb structures. All threads showed good biological safety, and the density of collagen area in the dermis was increased compared to that in the control group.

Conclusions

This study provided an objective evaluation of barbed thread products, which indicated that all products can be used safely with certain effects in different indications.  相似文献
