Two Chinese Medicine Experts Honoured at First Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine

The School of Chinese Medicine of Hong Kong Baptist University organised the Award Presentation Ceremony cum Award Winners’ Lectures of The First Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine to honour the two award recipients on April 30. The winners of the inaugural award were Professor CHEN Ke-ji,Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of Cardiovascular Center,Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences;and Professor Tommy CHENG,Henry Bronson Professor of Pharmacology at Yale University and Chairman of the Consortium for the Globalization of Chinese Medicine.

ZHAO Jian-xiong （赵健雄） A Famous Expert in Integrative Medicine and Dunhuang Medicine

ZHAO Jian-xiong, was born in Yulin City on November 1, 1942, Shaanxi Province. He graduated from Lanzhou Medical College in 1965, and practiced Western medicine after his graduation while learning traditional Chinese medicine （TCM）. In 1980, Dr. ZHAO was one of the first students who graduated from the TCM graduate program at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine with a master＇s degree. From 1983 to 2004, Dr. ZHAO was the associate president of Gansu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Vice President and the President of Lanzhou Medical College. In 1992, Dr. ZHAO was promoted as a professor. Prof. Zhao is now the adviser of graduate students, and the Director of the Research Institute of Integrative Medicine, Lanzhou University. In addition, Prof. ZHAO is a council member of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine and the President of Gansu Association of Integrative Medicine.

PROMINENT PERSONNEL——LEI Yan （雷燕）：An Expert in Studying Cardiovascular Diseases with Integrated Medicine

Professor LEI Yan, Ph. D., female, was born in October 1960. After being graduated from Henan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine （ TOM ） in 1983, she worked as a resident physician in the TOM Hospital of Xinyang city, Henan province. She was enrolled in the master＇ s program of internal medicine of integrative traditional Chinese and Western medicine in Fujian College of TOM in 1988, and after finished her study in 1991, she was employed as a chief physician in Fujian Provincial Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases for two years. In 1993 she studied under the indoctrination of Prof. CHEN Ke-ji, majoring in cardiovascular diseases in the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences （CACMS） and got the doctoral degree in July 1996. In 1998, she finished the post-doctorate research on the prevention and treatment of senile dementia in Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. Since then, she took charge in managerial work as the assistant director of department of cardiovascular diseases of Xiyuan Hospital of CACMS and the director of department of scientific research supervisal in CACMS, meanwhile, as a Prof. of Medi- cine, the tutor of doctoral students on integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine （TCM-WM） of CACMS.     

WANG Xue-mei （王学美）--A Famous Expert on Anti-senility

Prof. WANG Xue- mei was born in Wuqing, Tianjin City on September 10, 1964. She graduated with a bachelors and masters degree from the Tianjin Traditional Chinese Medicine College in 1988 （now the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine）. She pursued her doctorate in the Beijing Medical University （now the Peking University Health Science Center） from 1988 to 1991, She has been working in the Peking University Institute of Integrated TCM and Western Medicine since her graduation.

Yao Kuiwu, male, MD, now works in Foreign Guest Department of Xiyuan Hospital, China Science Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Now the main research fields are the prevention and cure of cardiovascular disease and Geriatrics, and the syndrome study in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
