Axial volvulus of Meckel's diverticulum.

Two cases of axial volvulus of a Meckel''s diverticulum associated with a diverticular band are described. In both cases, the pre-operative diagnosis was of acute appendicitis. The importance of further exploration if the appendix is insufficiently inflamed to acount for the symptoms and signs is emphasized.     

Radiological Examination of Meckel's Diverticulum

The lack of success in filling a known Meckel's diverticulum with either gas or barium suspension emphasizes the limitations of radiological examination. The flexibility and length of this structure predispose to torsion and narrowing of the lumen. Nevertheless, the occasional successful identification of this abnormality warrants the relatively simple radiographic examination required.     

Leiomyoma of Meckel's diverticulum

Meckel's diverticulum is a common developmental abnormality of the midgut which may present clinically because of complications. This report describes an unusual clinical presentation of a patient with a large leiomyoma of a Meckel's diverticulum.     

Meckel's diverticulum in adults

This is a study of Meckel's diverticulum in adults who had undergone surgery in the hospital. The complications of Meckel's diverticulum are compared with that of the ones mentioned in the literature. A comparative study of the clinical features and the operative findings in case of Meckel's diverticulum with ectopic tissue is also discussed. The controversy of Meckel's diverticulectomy has also been dealt with at large.     

Carcinoid tumour arising in a Meckel's diverticulum

A patient with a carcinoid tumour arising in a Meckel's diverticulum and presenting with acute small intestinal obstruction is described. Review of previously reported cases indicates that the initial clinical presentation of carcinoid tumours occurring in a Meckel's diverticulum is usually similar to that of appendiceal carcinoids. While most carcinoids in Meckel's diverticula present as incidental findings at post-mortem examination or laparotomy, their metastatic potential and subsequent behaviour resembles that of other small intestinal carcinoid tumours.
