Proboscis lateralis is a rare congenital malformation of nose. A case has been reported with tubular process arising just
above the inner canthus of left eye with a distal opening. Reconstruction was planned but could not be carried out because
the baby died of infant death syndrome. This case is being reported because of its rarity. The morphology and embryology of
this abnormality have also been discussed. 相似文献

Klippel-FEIL syndrome is a congenital skeletal malformation characterised by the fusion of various cervical and occasionally
thoracic vertebrae, leading to low hair line and short neck. Occasionally it is associated with hearing loss and Sprengel
deformity with winging of scapulae. This case is being reported for its rarity 相似文献

One type of soft tissue lesions of the oral cavity is lipoma, which is a kind of benign tumor composed of mature lipid cells. Although the lipoma presents as one of the most common mesenchymal neoplasms, most tend to develop on the trunk and proximal portions of the extremities. However, lipomas in the oral and maxillofaciai region are much less frequent. Here we present a case of an intraorai iipoma in a six year-old child. 相似文献

Dental pains provoked by an altitude beyond 5.000 ft can occur with any kind of tooth, healthy or restored. It is considered as a consequence of a brutal pressure change. The incidence has not been decreasing in spite of flight conditions improvement. These kind of dental pain cause a problem for those who fly: civilian and military pilots as well as airlines passengers. The conditions in which this might happened are variable. There may be a definite correlation between the character of the symptoms of aerodontalgia and the underlying pulpal pathology. The proposed etiology concerning pathological teeth is an oedema and hyperthermia of the pulp which can lead to necrosis. In an indirect type dental pain is secondary to stimulation of the superior alveolar nerves by a maxillary barosinusitis, or anatomic malformation. The most frequent is a pain during ascent (decompression), and the most concerned teeth are upper molars. The preventive treatment is very important. Both complete clinical and radiological examinations must be achieved. Regular dental examination are-essential for the crew. Aerodontalgia can be largely prevented by high quality root and dental cares. The case of a 26 years old man who use to suffer for a long time of dental pain during flights is in accordance with the dominant clinical symptoms of this affection. 相似文献

A rare case of fatal Weber-Christian disease is reported. The initial presenting signs were unilateral nasal obstruction due to hyperplasia of the ulcerated turbinate, swollen cheeks and eyelids accompanied by recurrent febrile episodes. The nasal lesion showed marked inflammatory granulation tissue with necrosis and there were 'atypical' reticulohistiocytic cells. Subsequently the patient developed widespread nodular nonsuppurative panniculitis of the left thigh. The patient's general condition worsened in spite of cytotoxic and steroid treatment and he died of acute peritonitis from a perforated duodenal ulcer complicating the treatment. Microscopy showed that some atypical cells were present not only in the nasal lesion but also in the lesions of the skin and in the sinusoids of the liver and in the spleen. Weber-Christian disease secondary to midline granuloma or malignant histiocytosis has not previously been reported. 相似文献

A young child with macroglossia of unknown cause was seen for treatment to modify resting tongue posture and improve speech sound production. Evaluation of the treatments indicated positive change in resting tongue posture and a modest change in speech sound production. Treatment for such patients can be complex and must consider orthodontic and/or surgical interventions, because an enlarged tongue can influence growth, development, and physiology of the oropharyngeal complex. The speech-language pathologist must be prepared to deal with the complex of problems demonstrated by patients with macroglossia during growth and development. LEARNING OUTCOMES: (1) As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to describe the sequelae of macroglossia. (2) As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to identify appropriate treatment options for children with macroglossia. 相似文献

Tonsillectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in children. Day case tonsillectomy is common in many parts of the USA but remains controversial in the UK. Day case tonsillectomy in children has been performed in a dedicated paediatric day care unit at the Mayday Hospital since 1994. The results for the years 1995–1997 were reviewed. In these years 928 true day case tonsillectomies were performed. Reactionary haemorrhage occurred in 0.97% (nine children) but only three children required a return to theatre. All bleeding occurred within the standard observation period. There were no deaths. The overall effective day case rate was 95.7%, only 31 children needing unplanned admission, mainly for postoperative vomiting. The results suggest that day case tonsillectomy can be safely and successfully performed, with a dedicated paediatric day case unit and a favourable population geography. 相似文献
