Modern day menstrual folklore. Some clinical implications.

Clinicians are often unaware of the folk medical beliefs of their patients or consider them to be harmless and unimportant. Such beliefs are instrumental in shaping patient behavior, however, and may contribute to negative health practices. The information presented here demonstrates that attitudes toward a single bodily function, menstruation, may adversely affect women's body image, perception of disease causation, diet, willingness to take medication, contraceptive use, and the ability to plan pregnancies. The data are part of a pilot study in which patients in a clinic serving a multiethnic low-income population were questioned about their knowledge and beliefs concerning the female reproductive cycle. It is concluded that health personnel should strive to learn what women know and believe about their bodies and how they function, to improve health care provision.     

帕金森病亟待解决的几个临床问题

帕金森病(PD)是以震颤、肌强直、运动减少、姿势异常为主要表现的运动障碍疾病.20世纪60年代左旋多巴应用于PD的治疗后,一直是治疗帕金森病的"金标准",但临床过程中发现,经过3～5年左右"蜜月期"后,50%～75%的患者就会出现异动和症状波动等运动并发症.     

教学医院临床带教中应当注意的几个问题

临床实习是医学生学习过程中不可缺少的重要环节。为了保证临床实习的顺利进行,临床教师应当注意：首先,教学医院的员工应当时刻具有临床教学意识;其次,教师应当想方设法使实习生重视临床实习;第三,合理安排临床教学,充分重视医学生临床能力的培养;第四,营造融洽氛围,让学生主动参与教学。     

Non-attendance at a psychiatric day hospital new patient clinic.

People who do not attend for treatment present problems in the efficient running of any service. This is particularly the case with new patients referred to a psychiatric clinic where an hour may be set aside for the initial assessment. High non-attendance rates cause administrative problems and loss of valuable time. The referring doctor may be left with his patient unassessed, the patient may miss valuable treatment or advice, and an incorrect assessment of the true prevalence of some disorders may be made.     

狂犬病若干问题的探讨

本文通过分析279例狂犬病病例的年龄、受染方式、损伤部位、疫苗注射等因素与狂犬病的潜伏期和病程的关系,发现潜伏期的长短与这些因素有密切关系,而病程长短仅与潜伏期有关。探讨了疫苗免疫失败的原因可能是目前使用的五针法地鼠肾疫苗注射未能在短潜伏期病例在发病之前产生足够抗体。另还与疫苗的储存和机体免疫状态有关。期望在加强监护下,辅助通气,对症处理及应用抗病毒药物等,能探索出治疗狂犬病的一条路子。     

Assertiveness of psychiatric day care users in Japan

Objective: This study aimed to clarify the assertiveness of psychiatric day care users with schizophrenia.Patients and Methods: We examined 1,179 psychiatric day care center users and 916 psychiatric hospital outpatients with schizophrenia between September 2008 and February 2009 using a questionnaire survey based on the Japanese version of the Rathus Assertiveness Schedule and the Functioning Scale. The questionnaires were distributed and collected by post by the director of each participating facility.Results: Of the 1,179 users (Users) and 916 outpatients (Patients) targeted, 366 (31.0%) and 78 (8.5%) were enrolled in this study. The mean assertiveness score of Users (–7.1 ± 20.2) was significantly higher than that of Patients (–17.3 ± 20.9; P<0.01). Assertiveness scores were higher in Users who performed housework compared with those who did not. High functioning was a background factor that improved assertiveness scores in Users. Additionally, Users could maintain a suitable assertiveness score with support from a psychiatric day care center.Conclusion: This study revealed that Users had a greater ability to self-assert than Patients; this was largely the result of being able to live in society.
