BackgroundWe have studied the growth of Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma (JCOT), the official journal of the Delhi Orthopaedic Association indexed in PubMed, Scopus and Embase, along with an analysis of citation trends and levels of evidence of published articles in the last five years.MethodsSCOPUS and PubMed databases (2015–19) were used to extract publication-related data for the last five years. The official website of the journal was also used to retrieve issue-specific data. An audit of recent publications in the JCOT was conducted focusing on number of issues and publications(year wise), types of articles published, review speed, level of evidence of publications, types of publication(speciality wise), number of publications in PubMed and SCOPUS, number of citations(year wise), national and international authorship and the Cite Scores.ResultsThe submissions were increased by 2.8 times and the citations rocketed to 16.6 times in 2019, compared to 2015. A total of 890 papers were there and the journal was cited 1702 times in the last five years. More articles with higher levels of evidence papers are now being published.ConclusionThere has been a significant increase in the numbers of submissions, publications, citations, Cite Score, h-index and contribution by the International authors. Its Editorial efficiency has also been outstanding with timely reviews and editorial decisions. The JCOT has become increasingly internationally relevant in the last five years, in the orthopaedic community. However, JCOT needs to publish more papers with a higher level of evidence like Systematic reviews, Meta-analyses, Randomized Controlled Trials and should only publish top-class lower hierarchy papers (like Case reports, Case-controlled and Retrospective studies).  相似文献

The number of citations of an article in scientific journals reflects its impact on a specific biomedical field and its recognition in the scientific community. In the present study, we identified and analyzed the characteristics of the 100 most frequently cited articles published between 1970 and 2010 in journals pertaining to pain research and related fields. These articles were identified using the database of the Science Citation Index (1970 to present). The most cited article received 3,017 citations and the least cited article received 302 citations, with a mean of 585 citations per article. These citation classics were published in six high-impact journals, led by Pain (84 articles). Of the 100 articles, 39 were observational studies, 25 were review articles, and 20 concerned basic science. The articles originated from 14 countries, with the United States contributing 47 articles; 67 institutions produced these 100 top-cited articles, led by National Institutes of Health of the United States (8 articles) and University College London (6 articles); 18 persons authored 2 or more of the top-cited articles. This analysis of the top citation classics allows for the recognition of major advances in pain research and gives a historical perspective on the scientific progress of this specialty.  相似文献

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an infodemic about the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 outbreak to build knowledge and develop mitigation strategies. In addition, scientific journals across the world have studied the impact of COVID-19 on trauma and orthopaedics.MethodsA cross-sectional, bibliometric analysis of the literature was undertaken on COVID-19 related articles from three Pubmed and Scopus indexed orthopaedic journals from India, namely, Indian Journal of Orthopaedics(IJO),Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma(JCOT), and Journal of Orthopaedics (JOO), in May 2021. All the article types and study designs were included for this review. The authors, institutions, countries, keywords, and co-authorship mapping were studied.ResultsA total of 112 COVID-19 related documents were retrieved. Period of these publications was from 2nd April 2020 to 31st May 2021. Vaishya R. (n = 16) was the most cited author, and Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals (n = 16) was the most cited research Institution. India led the list of countries in academic publication output. On keyword mapping, telemedicine was the most prominent Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) search word.ConclusionThe Indian orthopedic journals have addressed the impact of COVID-19 on orthopaedic practice in India and aborad whilst continuing to publish knowledge about basic science and clinical orthopaedic research studies. The JCOT has outperformed and become the most leading orthopaedic journal from India during the pandemic. COVID -19 articles have been fast tracked, open accessed and attracted more citations in reduced duration of time compared to non-COVID-19 papers.  相似文献

The number of citations an article receives after its publication reflects its recognition in the scientific community. In the present study, therefore, we identified and examined the characteristics of the top 100 most frequently cited articles published in anesthetic journals. These articles were identified using the database of the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED, 1945 to present) and the Web of SCIENCE(R). The most-cited article received 707 citations and the least cited article received 197 citations, with a mean of 283 citations per article. These citation classics were published between 1954 and 1997 in 5 high-impact anesthetic journals, led by Anesthesiology (73 articles) followed by Anesthesia & Analgesia (10), British Journal of Anesthesia (10), Anesthesia (6), and Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica (2). Seventy-eight articles were original publications, 22 were review articles, and one was an editorial. They originated from nine countries, with the United States contributing 70 articles. Within the United States, California leads the list of citation classics with 25 articles. Twenty-nine persons authored two or more of the top-cited articles. The main topics covered by the top-cited articles are pharmacology, volatile anesthetics, circulation, regional anesthesia, and lung physiology. This analysis of citation rates allows for the recognition of seminal advances in anesthesia and gives a historic perspective on the scientific progress of this specialty. IMPLICATIONS: We performed a citation analysis to identify important contributions and contributors to the anesthetic literature. These classic articles have influenced many people and have brought to our attention the many important advances in anesthesia made during the last 50 yr.  相似文献

BackgroundThe number of times an article has been cited reflects its influence in a specific field. The aim of this study was to identify and characterize the most highly cited articles published on bariatric and metabolic surgery.MethodsThe 50 most frequently cited articles in bariatric and metabolic surgery were identified from the Scopus database in December 2013.ResultsThe median number of citations was 383.5 (range 275–2482). Most of the articles were published from 2000–2012 (n = 35), followed by 1990–1999 (n = 12), then before 1990 (n = 3). These citation classics came from 8 countries, with the majority originating from the United States (n = 34), followed by Sweden (n = 4) and Australia (n = 4). The 50 articles were published in 20 journals, led by New England Journal of Medicine (n = 9) and Annals of Surgery (n = 9). Only 10 of the articles were published in obesity-specific journals. The level of evidence of the 49 clinical publications and 1 animal study consisted of level I (n = 5), II (n = 11), III (n = 9), IV (n = 19), and V (n = 6). Meta-analyses were 16% of the total citations. Metabolic (n = 12) and survival (n = 6) effects of surgery were among the most common fields of study.ConclusionExtending from the early 1950s through the voluminous growth period of the early 2000s, the field of bariatric and metabolic surgery led to the emergence of many top-cited scientific articles. These articles have provided the scientific basis for the only currently effective treatment for severe obesity. Articles published in high-impact journals, innovative observational studies, meta-analyses, survival analyses, and research on postoperative metabolic changes are most likely to be cited in the field of bariatric surgery.  相似文献

BackgroundWith nearly 50 years’ of development, Injury has become one of the leading journals in its specialty. The aim of this article is to identify, analyze the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles published by the journal to date.MethodWe searched the Thomson Reuters Web of Science Core Collection for citations of all articles published in Injury since its launch. For the Top 100 most frequently cited articles, title, author name, number of authors, publishing date, citation number, country of origin, institution, pages, number of reference, type of article, study topic, study design, funding source, and level of evidence of each clinical article were recorded and analyzed.ResultsOnly 50 self-citations were found in 12436 total citations of the top100 articles, fifty-four articles exceeded 100 citations. Total citations of the Top 100 articles ranged from 77 to 599. The Top 100 articles were published between 1973 and 2012, the mean authorship and institution number per paper was 3.92 and 1.84 respectively. The mean page number was 8.26 and the mean reference number was 45.2. England, Germany and Switzerland ranked the top three countries of origin. Among the T100 articles, there were 50 clinical studies, 5 basic researches, and 45 reviews. The most common study type was case series, and most common topics were bone reconstruction, trauma and bone fracture. The most common level of evidence was level Ⅳ.ConclusionsThis study may help researchers to find out the important information on the classic articles and provides useful insights for the authors who want to publish their research in Injury.  相似文献

Objective: We conducted a citation analysis in order to catalog and pay tribute to the 100 most influential clinical research articles in traumatic spinal cord injury.

Design: The Thomson Reuters Web of Science was searched in a two-step process without time period limitations. Review articles were excluded. In the first stage of data extraction, a Boolean query was used to identify the top 100 most cited clinical papers on traumatic spinal cord injury. One hundred and seven keywords were manually chosen and extracted from titles and abstracts. A second Boolean query used these keywords to broaden search results. The top 100 articles from this second stage search comprised the final list.

Outcome Measures: For each article, measures evaluated were number of citations, average number of citations per year, time elapsed before first citation, and time elapsed until the year in which each article received its respective highest number of citations in a one-year period.

Results: 119,991 articles were found in the second stage search. The top 100 most cited articles meeting inclusion criteria were identified within the first 2,104 results. Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was the most represented journal, with 20 of the top 100 articles. The top 100 list averaged 255 citations per article. The most highly cited article was the NASCIS 2 trial by Bracken et al., cited 1500 times, which investigated the efficacy of methylprednisolone or naloxone for spinal cord injury.

Conclusion: Clinical research in traumatic spinal cord injury has grown over time, expanding to encompass rehabilitation and experimental therapies in addition to acute management trials. The list may serve as an archive and reference for further studies in this field.  相似文献

Purpose

The number of citations of an article is a marker of its academic influence. Several medical specialties, including orthopaedics, have ranked the articles with more citations. We identified the 50 most cited orthopaedic articles from Latin-America and analyzed the characteristics that made them citable.

Methods

Science Citation Index Expanded was searched for citations of articles originated in Latin-America, published in any of the 63 journals in the category “Orthopaedics” from 1988 to 2013. We created a list ranking the 50 most commonly cited articles and determined the citation density (Citations/years since publication). Information noted for each article included authors, year of publication, country of origin, source journal, article type, and field of research.

Results

Latin-American countries were the origin of 1 % of orthopaedic articles. The top 50 most cited articles had between 29 and 150 citations (mean, 44.48); the citation density ranged from 1.43 to 15.5 citations/years (mean, 5.25). The articles were published in 19 of the 63 journals (11 general and eight sub-specialty journals), and all were published in English. Most articles (n = 29) were published in 2000 or later. The majority were clinical articles (n=40), and the most common fields were arthroscopy (n = 15) and hip surgery (n = 13). The top 50 articles originated mainly from Brazil (n = 20) and Argentina (n = 15).

Conclusions

This top 50 list displays articles that have become important references for the orthopaedic scientific community. Researchers may use this work to make their future publications more influential on future investigators.  相似文献

PurposeBibliometric studies have been established methods of analysing publications on a particular topic. These studies have been done on various orthopaedic topics and are increasing. The advantages of these studies have been highlighted in previous publications. Although some studies have been done on Indian publications from other specialties, those analysing Indian Orthopaedic Publications are lacking.MethodsWe performed a search in Scopus to look for all publications related to orthopaedics from India. Our search strategy in Scopus included ((TITLE-ABS-KEY(Orthopaedics OR Orthopaedics) AND AFFIL(India)) AND PUBYEAR > 2009 AND PUBYEAR < 2020) which resulted in 3270 articles on 02/11/2021. We analyzed the most publishing universities, city, state, specialty, authors, and anatomic location of these publications. We also mined the data to draw word clouds based on data obtained from the titles of articles, keywords and the affiliations of each of the articles published.ResultsTamil Nadu and New Delhi and their institutes appear to be the epicenter of publication activities in Orthopaedics in India. There has been a healthy trend of growth of articles in the orthopaedic specialty. Since there is a significant overlap of technology and engineering, it is not surprising to see engineering and technology institutes among the top 10 published institutes and even journals for the publications on orthopaedics.ConclusionThere has been a steady increase in the number of publications in the last decade. New Delhi and its Universities and Institutes appear to contribute the majority of citations and publications related to orthopaedics. Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma was the most publishing journal for Indian authors on Orthopaedic related articles.  相似文献

BackgroundTremendous scientific researches have been conducted in the field of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), while few bibliometric analyses have been performed. We aim to identify 100 top-cited published articles about DKD and analyze their main characteristics quantitatively.MethodsWeb of Science was searched with the term ‘diabetic kidney disease’ OR ‘diabetic nephropathy’ to identify the top 100 most cited articles. For articles meeting the predefined criteria, the following data were extracted and analyzed: citation ranking, publication year, publication journal, journal impact factor, country and institution, authors, study type, and keywords.ResultsThe highest number of citations was 4753 times. The median average citations per year was 21.8 (IQR, 16.6–33.0). Most articles focused on the pathogenesis and treatment. These articles were published in 25 different journals and the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology published the greatest number (20%). Forty-three articles (43%) originated from the United States. The University of Groningen was the leading institute, contributing five top-cited articles. The most frequent first author was de Zeeuw (n = 4), followed by Parving (n = 3). There was no correlation between the average citations and the number of authors, the number of institutes, or the number of funds, respectively. Experimental animal study was the research type most frequently conducted (n = 30), followed by observational study (n = 24). Keyword analysis revealed transforming growth factor-β, oxidative stress, proteinuria, and renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system interruption are classic research topics. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors, glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists, and anti-inflammatory agents are the emerging trends of DKD.ConclusionsThis bibliometric analysis helps in identifying the milestones, inadequacies, classic hotspots, and emerging trends of DKD. Pathogenesis and treatment are core themes in DKD research, while high-quality articles on the prediction and biomarker are insufficient. New analyzing metrics are needed to assess the actual impact of these top-cited articles on clinical practice.  相似文献

BackgroundThe number of citations of a paper gives an indication of an article's merit and importance within a medical specialty. We identify and analyse the 100 most cited papers in foot and ankle surgery.MethodThe Science Citation Index Expanded was searched for citations in 15 respected journals containing foot and ankle articles. Papers were analysed for subject, authorship, institution, country and year of publication. The average yearly citation was compared to total number of citations.Results3501 foot and ankle papers were returned. The maximum number of citations was 1084 and the mean was 104. The top 100 papers were published between 1979 and 2007, with the majority published in the last decade. The ankle was the most important anatomical region discussed, and basic science and degenerative disease were popular topics. We found a large discrepancy between the total number of citations with average yearly citation.ConclusionFoot and ankle surgery is a young and rapidly developing sub-specialty within orthopaedics. Recently there has been a significant increase in influential papers published. Certain topics are popular indicating their importance within the field. This study highlights important papers in foot and ankle surgery giving an insight into readership.  相似文献

The 50 highest cited articles related to hip and knee arthroplasty were searched in Thomson ISI Web of Science®. The 50 highest cited articles had up to 2495 citations. The top 10 papers according to absolute number were cited 580 times at least. Most papers were published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery American Volume (n = 22). Eight countries contributed to the list with most contributions from the United States (n = 30). The majority of papers were published since 1990 (n = 27). Studies focusing on the clinical outcome of hip arthroplasty dominate the literature in orthopedic arthroplasty in respect to absolute citations numbers. In the last decade however, papers on perioperative management have been published that show a high citation frequency.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: Investigators aim to publish their work in top journals in an effort to achieve the greatest possible impact. One measure of impact is the number of times a paper is cited after its publication in a journal. We conducted a review of the highest impact clinical orthopedic journal (Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, American volume [J Bone Joint Surg Am]) to determine factors associated with subsequent citations within 3 years of publication. METHODS: We conducted citation counts for all original articles published in J Bone Joint Surg Am 2000 (12 issues). We used regression analysis to identify factors associated with citation counts. RESULTS: We identified 137 original articles in the J Bone Joint Surg Am. There were 749 subsequent citations within 3 years of publication of these articles. Study design was the only variable associated with subsequent citation rate. Meta-analyses, randomized trials and basic science papers received significantly more citations (mean 15.5, 9.3 and 7.6, respectively) than did observational studies (mean retrospective 5.3, prospective 4.2) and case reports (mean 1.5) (p = 0.01). These study designs were also significantly more likely to be cited in the general medical literature (p = 0.02). CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that basic science articles and clinical articles with greater methodological safeguards against bias (randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses) are cited more frequently than are clinical studies with less rigorous study designs (observational studies and case reports).  相似文献

Although the citation index of an article is not a direct measure of its quality or importance, it is a measure of recognition that may suggest its impact on the scientific community. This study was undertaken to examine the characteristics of the top 100 most frequently cited articles (so-called "citation classics") on traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) that were published between 1986 and 2003, and to compare this selected professional literature with the consumers' perspective on the key issues in SCI research. The 100 top-cited articles on traumatic SCI were identified using the Internet database of the Science Citation Index Expanded and the Web of Science with the terms "spinal cord injury" and "spinal cord injuries." Meeting abstracts, letters, and editorials were excluded. No language restriction was applied. From a consumers' perspective, the areas of greatest interest for people with SCI as reported in two previous large-scale surveys include motor function, bowel and bladder control, sexual function, and pain. The final list of citation classics on traumatic SCI included 82 original articles and 18 article reviews, which were cited 146 times on average. Topics on basic science (63%) were more frequent than clinical studies (37%). The years of publication were distributed in a bell-shape curve with a peak between 1992 and 1994. North American and European centers (99%) led the list of the citation classics. Most of the top 100 most frequently cited articles on traumatic SCI (63%) explicitly focused on at least one of the topics of greatest interest to individuals with SCI. Motor function was the leading topic in the matching list between professional literature and consumers' perspective. This bibliometric analysis, for the first time, identifies the key features of the citation classics on traumatic SCI between 1986 and 2003, a period that represents one of an unprecedented increase in knowledge in this field. The 100 top-cited peer-reviewed articles have been predominantly focused on basic science SCI research indicating a need for greater bench-to-bedside translational studies in SCI research. Although the body of this top-cited professional literature mostly matches with the consumers' perspective, most of this research has been focused on motor function assessment and recovery following SCI.  相似文献

The Thomson Institute for Scientific Information Web of Science database was used to rank the top 50 articles regarding rotator cuff repair by number of citations received. Although the number of citations is a useful benchmark, it must be taken as only one of many indices of the value of an article to the study of orthopaedics. The most cited articles are out of date, reflecting that a longer time in publication allows more time for citation, and most have low levels of evidence (Level IV, retrospective case series absent a control group).  相似文献

An important event in the modern history of pediatric orthopaedics was the establishment of a journal dedicated to the subspecialty in 1981. Twenty-five years' worth of articles within the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics was subjected to citation analysis with the intention of identifying the 25 most frequently cited articles. Four true classic articles emerged (>or=100 citations). When looking at all articles on the top 25 list, the most common study design was retrospective in nature, and the most common subject matter was cerebral palsy and trauma-related topics.  相似文献

BackgroundUnicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has been proven to be an effective surgical technique for unilateral compartment osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the top 100 cited articles in the field of UKA research.MethodsPublications on UKA from 1980 to 2020 in the Web of Science database were retrieved. The characteristics of the top 100 cited articles were analyzed, including information of publications and citations, level of evidence, and research interests.ResultsThe number of publications and citations increased over time. The majority of the highly cited articles were from the Nuffield Orthopedic Centre (Oxford, England) and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, USA). Long-term outcome of UKA and comparison between UKA and TKA gathered most research interests. The most frequently occurring keywords were “survival” and “revision.” Since 2012, “life quality” and “robotics” have been used. There was no level I evidence, and most studies provided level IV evidence.ConclusionThere was a rising trend in publications and citations in the field of UKA research, the majority of them were from a few centers, and were low-level evidence. Most studies focused on the long-term outcomes of UKA; in recent years, patient satisfaction and navigation surgery have become new research trends.  相似文献

BackgroundThe bibliometric studies in the field of orthopaedics have gained popularity since they can determine the characteristics and research trends of most influential papers in specific subjects. This study aimed to evaluate the 50 most-cited articles related to hallux rigidus, and analyze possible factors associated with increased citation counts.MethodsThe available literature about hallux rigidus on Web of Science database until January 2021 were analyzed and the 50 most-cited articles were determined. The characteristics of the papers were documented and analyzed for any relationship or correlation with total citation or citation per year (citation density) values.ResultsThe average citation number and citation density were 52.8 (range: 26–243) and 3 (range: 0.8–12.8), respectively. The average author number was 3.4, while the average institution number was 1.9. The USA had the highest number of articles with 29. Twenty-six papers were case-series, only 3 studies had level 1 and only 2 had level 2 evidence. The highest number of articles were published in Foot and Ankle International with 22 papers. Forty papers were clinical studies while 10 were reviews. Five studies were multicentric.ConclusionThis study provided the general characteristic and research trends of 50 most influential hallux rigidus papers. The number of institutions and references were positively correlated with citation density, indicating a higher chance of getting cited for papers with collaborations from different institutions and papers using more references from other works. Publication year was also positively correlated with citation density, indicating the better performance of more recent articles.Level of Clinical EvidenceLevel 3  相似文献

IntroductionThe number of citations is considered as an indirect indicator of the merit of an article, journal or researcher, although it is not an infallible method to determine scientific quality. Our goal is to determine the characteristics of the articles most cited about pancreas and laparoscopy.MethodsWe performed a search of all articles published in any journal about pancreas and laparoscopy until September 2019 and selected the 100 most cited papers. We recorded number of citations, journal, year of publication, quartil, impact factor, institution, country, authors type of paper, type of surgery, topic and area.ResultsThe top 100 citations account 10,970 citations in total. The journal with the most articles is Surgical Endoscopy and 2007 is the year with the highest number of articles in the top 100 citations. The percentage of publications from America and Europe are similar.Case series is the most frequently paper, outcomes/morbidity is the most frequently discussed topic, and distal pancreatectomy is the most frequently type of surgery.ConclusionsThis bibliometric study on pancreas and laparoscopy is conditioned by the time factor, since laparoscopy has arrived later at pancreatic surgery, probably due to the morbidity and mortality associated with pancreatic surgery and the need for a high specialization in this field. The literature is recent and scarce. More and better-quality studies are needed in this field.  相似文献
