In this study, the influence of Er addition on the microstructure, type transformation of second phases, and corrosion resistance of an Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy were explored. The results revealed that the added Er element could significantly refine the alloy grains and change the second-phase composition at the grain boundary of the alloy. In the as-cast state, the Er element significantly enhanced the corrosion resistance of the alloy due to its refining effect on the grains and second phases at the grain boundary. The addition of the alloying element Er to the investigated alloy changed the type of corrosion attack on the alloy’s surface. In the presence of Er, the dominant type of corrosion attack is pitting corrosion, while the alloy without Er is prone to intergranular corrosion attack. After a solution treatment, the Al8Cu4Er phase was formed, in which the interaction with the Cu element and the competitive growth relation to the Al3Er phase were the key factors influencing the corrosion resistance of the alloy. The anodic corrosion mechanism of the Al8Cu4Er and Al3Er phases evidently lowered the alloy corrosion rate, and the depth of the corrosion pit declined from 197 μm to 155 μm; however, further improvement of corrosion resistance was restricted by the morphology and size of the Al8Cu4Er phase after its formation and growth; therefore, adjusting the matching design of the Cu and Er elements can allow Er to improve the corrosion resistance of the Al–Zn–Mg–Cu aluminum alloy to the greatest extent.  相似文献

The quantitative study of rare earth compounds is important for the improvement of existing magnesium alloy systems and the design of new magnesium alloys. In this paper, the effective separation of matrix and compound in Mg–Zn–Ce–Zr alloy was achieved by a low-temperature chemical phase separation technique. The mass fraction of the (Mg, Zn)12Ce compound was determined and the effect of the (Mg, Zn)12Ce phase content on the heat deformation organization and properties was investigated. The results show that the Mg–Zn–Ce compound in both the as-cast and the homogeneous alloys is (Mg, Zn)12Ce. (Mg, Zn)12Ce phase formation depends on the content and the ratio of Zn and Ce elements in the initial residual melt of the eutectic reaction. The Zn/Ce mass ratios below 2.5 give the highest compound contents for different Zn contents, 5.262 wt.% and 7.040 wt.%, respectively. The increase in the amount of the (Mg, Zn)12Ce phase can significantly reduce the critical conditions for dynamic recrystallization formation. Both the critical strain and the stress decrease with increasing rare earth content. The reduction of the critical conditions and the particle-promoted nucleation mechanism work together to increase the amount of dynamic recrystallization. In addition, it was found that alloys with 6 wt.% Zn elements tend to undergo a dynamic recrystallization softening mechanism, while alloys with 3 wt.% Zn elements tend to undergo a dynamic reversion softening mechanism.  相似文献

Mg alloys have mechanical properties similar to those of human bones, and have been studied extensively because of their potential use in biodegradable medical implants. In this study, the influence of different heat treatment regimens on the microstructure and mechanical and corrosion properties of biodegradable Mg–Zn–Ga alloys was investigated, because Ga is effective in the treatment of disorders associated with accelerated bone loss. Solid–solution heat treatment (SSHT) enhanced the mechanical properties of these alloys, and a low corrosion rate in Hanks’ solution was achieved because of the decrease in the cathodic-phase content after SSHT. Thus, the Mg–4 wt.% Zn–4 wt.% Ga–0.5 wt.% Y alloy after 18 h of SSHT at 350 °C (ultimate tensile strength: 207 MPa; yield strength: 97 MPa; elongation at fracture: 7.5%; corrosion rate: 0.27 mm/year) was recommended for low-loaded orthopedic implants.  相似文献

The current study investigated the microstructure modification in Al–6Mg–5Si–0.15Ti alloy (in mass %) through the minor addition of Ca using Mg + Al2Ca master alloy and heat treatment to see their impact on mechanical properties. The microstructure of unmodified alloy (without Ca) consisted of primary Al, primary Mg2Si, binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si, ternary eutectic Al–Mg2Si–Si, and iron-bearing phases. The addition of 0.05 wt% Ca resulted in significant microstructure refinement. In addition to refinement, lamellar to fibrous-type modification of binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si phases was also achieved in Ca-added (modified) alloy. This modification was related to increasing Ca-based intermetallics/compounds in the modified alloy that acted as nucleation sites for binary eutectic Al–Mg2Si phases. The dendritic refinement with Ca addition was related to the fact that it improves the efficacy of Ti-based particles (TiAl3 and TiB2) in the melt to act as nucleation sites. In contrast, the occupation of oxide bifilms by Ca-based phases is expected to force the iron-bearing phases (as iron-bearing phases nucleate at oxide films) to solidify at lower temperatures, thus reducing their size. The as-cast microstructure of these alloys was further modified by subjecting them to solution treatment at 540 °C for 6 h, which broke the eutectic structure and redistributed Mg2Si and Si phases in Al-matrix. Subsequent aging treatment caused a dramatic increase in the tensile strength of these alloys, and tensile strength of 291 MPa (with El% of 0.45%) and 327 MPa (with El% of 0.76%) was achieved for the unmodified alloy and modified alloy, respectively. Higher tensile strength and elongation of the modified alloy than unmodified alloy was attributed to refined dendritic structure and modified second phases.  相似文献

Combined with microstructure characterization and properties tests, the effects of Zn contents on the mechanical properties, corrosion behaviors, and microstructural evolution of extruded Al–Li–Cu–Mg–Ag alloys were investigated. The results show that the increase in Zn contents can accelerate hardening kinetics and improve the hardness of peak-aged alloys. The Zn-added alloys present non-recrystallization characteristics combined with partially small recrystallized grains along the grain boundaries, while the T1 phase with finer dimension and higher number density could explain the constantly increasing tensile strength. In addition, increasing Zn contents led to a lower corrosion current density and a shallower maximum intergranular corrosion depth, thus improving the corrosion resistance of the alloys. Zn addition, distributed in the central layer of T1 phases, not only facilitates the precipitation of more T1 phases but also reduces the corrosion potential difference between the T1 phase and the matrix. Therefore, adding 0.57 wt.% Zn to the alloy has an excellent combination of tensile strength and corrosion resistance. The properties induced by Zn under the T8 temper (solid solution treatment + water quenching + 5% pre-strain+ isothermal aging), however, are not as apparent as the T6 temper (solid solution treatment + water quenching + isothermal aging).  相似文献

The fabricated Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy build has low mechanical properties due to the dissolution of strengthening precipitates back into the matrix during friction stir additive manufacturing (FSAM). Post-fabricated aging was considered an effective approach to improve the mechanical performance of the build. In this study, various post-fabricated aging treatments were applied in the underwater FSAM of Al–7.5 Zn–1.85 Mg–1.3 Cu–0.135 Zr alloy. The effect of the post-fabricated aging on the microstructure, microhardness, and local tensile properties of the build was investigated. The results indicated that over-aging occurred in the low hardness zone (LHZ) of the build after artificial aging at 120 °C for 24 h as the high density of grain boundaries, subgrain boundaries, dislocations, and Al3Zr particles facilitated the precipitation. Low-temperature aging treatment can effectively avoid the over-aging problem. After aging at 100 °C for 48 h, the average microhardness value of the build reached 178 HV; the yield strength of the LHZ and high hardness zone (HHZ) was 453 MPa and 463 MPa, respectively; and the ultimate tensile strength of the LHZ and HHZ increased to 504 MPa and 523 MPa, respectively.  相似文献

The present study investigates Mg–2Zn–1Ca/XMn alloys as biodegradable implants for orthopedic fracture fixation applications. The effect of the presence and progressive addition of manganese (X = 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 wt.%) on the degradation, and post-corrosion compressive response were investigated. Results suggest that the addition of manganese at 0.5 wt.% improved the corrosion resistance of Mg–2Zn–1Ca alloys. The pH values stabilized for the 0.5Mn-containing alloy and displayed a lower corrosion rate when compared to other Mg–2Zn–1Ca/Mn alloys. Mg–2Zn–1Ca showed a progressive reduction in the compressive strength properties at the end of day 21 whereas Mg–2Zn–1Ca/0.3Mn and Mg–2Zn–1Ca/0.5Mn samples showed a decrease until day 14 and stabilized around the same strength range after day 21. The ability of Mg–2Zn–1Ca/0.5Mn alloy to develop a network of protective hydroxide and phosphate layers has resulted in the corrosion control of the alloy. Mg–2Zn–1Ca/0.7Mn displays segregation of Mn particles at the grain boundaries resulting in decreased corrosion protection. The mechanism behind the corrosion protection of Mg–2Zn–1Ca alloys was discussed.  相似文献

As a kind of potential biomedical material, Mg–Ca alloy has attracted much attention. However, the role of Ca-containing intermetallics in microgalvanic corrosion is still controversial. In 0.6 mol/L NaCl and Na2SO4 solutions, the microgalvanic corrosion behavior of the second phase and Mg matrix of Mg–Ca and Mg–Al–Ca alloys was examined. It was confirmed that the Mg2Ca phase acts as a microanode in microgalvanic corrosion in both NaCl and Na2SO4 solutions, with the Mg matrix acting as the cathode and the Al2Ca phase acting as the microcathode to accelerate corrosion of the adjacent Mg matrix. It was also found that Cl and SO42− have different sensibilities to microgalvanic corrosion.  相似文献

In the present work, an oxygen hardening of near-β phase Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloy in plasma glow discharge at 700–1000 °C was studied. The influence of the surface treatment on the alloy microstructure, tribological and micromechanical properties, and corrosion resistance is presented. A strong influence of the treatment on the hardened zone thickness, refinement of the α’ laths and grain size of the bulk alloy were found. The outer hardened zone contained mainly an oxygen-rich Ti α’ (O) solid solution. The microhardness and elastic modulus of the hardened zone decreased with increasing hardening temperature. The hardened zone thickness, size of the α’ laths, and grain size of the bulk alloy increased with increasing treatment temperature. The wear resistance of the alloy oxygen-hardened at 1000 °C was about two hundred times, and at 700 °C, even five hundred times greater than that of the base alloy. Oxygen hardening also slightly improved the corrosion resistance. Tribocorrosion tests revealed that the alloy hardened at 700 °C was wear-resistant in a corrosive environment, and when the friction process was completed, the passive film was quickly restored. The results show that glow discharge plasma oxidation is a simple and effective method to enhance the micromechanical and tribological performance of the Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloy.  相似文献

The influence of carbon on the phase transformation behavior of stainless steels with the base chemical composition Fe–13Cr (wt.%), and carbon concentrations in the range of 0–0.7 wt.%, was studied at temperatures between −196 °C and liquidus temperature. Based on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements, the solidification mode changed from ferritic to ferritic–austenitic as the carbon concentration increased. The DSC results were in fair agreement with the thermodynamic equilibrium calculation results. In contrast to alloys containing nearly 0% C and 0.1% C, alloys containing 0.2–0.7% C exhibited a fully austenitic phase stability range without delta ferrite at high temperatures. Quenching to room temperature (RT) after heat treatment in the austenite range resulted in the partial transformation to martensite. Due to the decrease in the martensite start temperature, the fraction of retained austenite increased with the carbon concentration. The austenite fraction was reduced by cooling to −196 °C. The variation in hardness with carbon concentration for as-quenched steels with martensitic–austenitic microstructures indicated a maximum at intermediate carbon concentrations. Given the steady increase in the tetragonality of martensite at higher carbon concentrations, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction measurements, the variation in hardness with carbon concentration is governed by the amount and stability of austenite.  相似文献

The microstructure and precipitate evolution of as-cast Mg–Nd alloys with different contents of Nd was investigated via experimental and simulation methods. The research showed that the as-cast microstructure of Mg–Nd alloy consisted of α-Mg dendrites and the intermetallic phases. A metastable β phase precipitated, followed by α-Mg dendrites that could be confirmed as Mg12Nd by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The amount of β-Mg12Nd presented a rising trend with increasing Nd additions. In addition, the tertiary phase was also observed in as-cast Mg–Nd alloy when Nd content was greater than 3 wt.%, which precipitated from the oversaturated α-Mg matrix. The tertiary phase should be β1-Mg3Nd, which is also a metastable phase with a face-centered cubic lattice. However, it is a pity that the tertiary phase was not detected by the XRD technique. Moreover, an effective cellular automaton (CA) model was explored and applied to simulate the time-dependent α-Mg/β1-Mg3Nd eutectic growth. The simulated results of α-Mg/β1-Mg3Nd eutectic growth in Mg-3Nd presented that the growth of α-Mg dendrites was accompanied by the nucleation and growth of β1-Mg3Nd precipitates and eventually formed a eutectic structure. The eutectic morphologies for Mg–Nd system alloys with different Nd contents were also simulated using the proposed model, and the results revealed that α-Mg dendrite was a refinement, and the amount of α-Mg/β1-Mg3Nd eutectic was promoted, with increasing Nd content.  相似文献

We found that specific biomedical Ti and its alloys, such as CP Ti, Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr, and Ti–36Nb–2Ta–3Zr–0.3O, form a bright white oxide layer after a particular oxidation heat treatment. In this paper, the interfacial microstructure of the oxide layer on Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr and the exfoliation resistance of commercially pure (CP) Ti, Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr, and Ti–36Nb–2Ta–3Zr–0.3O were investigated. The alloys investigated were oxidized at 1273 or 1323 K for 0.3–3.6 ks in an air furnace. The exfoliation stress of the oxide layer was high in Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr and Ti–36Nb–2Ta–3Zr–0.3O, and the maximum exfoliation stress was as high as 70 MPa, which is almost the same as the stress exhibited by epoxy adhesives, whereas the exfoliation stress of the oxide layer on CP Ti was less than 7 MPa, regardless of duration time. The nanoindentation hardness and frictional coefficients of the oxide layer on Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr suggested that the oxide layer was hard and robust enough for artificial tooth coating. The cross-sectional transmission electron microscopic observations of the microstructure of oxidized Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr revealed that a continuous oxide layer formed on the surface of the alloys. The Au marker method revealed that both in- and out-diffusion occur during oxidation in Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr and Ti–36Nb–2Ta–3Zr–0.3O, whereas only out-diffusion governs oxidation in CP Ti. The obtained results indicate that the high exfoliation resistance of the oxide layer on Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr and Ti-36Nb-2Ta-3Zr-0.3O are attributed to their dense microstructures composing of fine particles, and a composition-graded interfacial microstructure. On the basis of the results of our microstructural observations, the oxide formation mechanism of the Ti–Nb–Ta–Zr alloy is discussed.  相似文献

In the present study, a Cu–6Ni–6Sn–0.6Si alloy is fabricated through frequency induction melting, then subjected to solution treatment, rolling, and annealing. The phase composition, microstructure evolution, and transition mechanism of the Cu–6Ni–6Sn–0.6Si alloy are researched systematically through simulation calculation and experimental characterization. The ultimate as-annealed sample simultaneously performs with high strength and good ductility according to the uniaxial tensile test results at room temperature. There are amounts of precipitates generated, which are identified as belonging to the DO22 and L12 phases through the transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis. The DO22 and L12 phase precipitates have a significant strengthening effect. Meanwhile, the generation of the common discontinuous precipitation of the γ phase, which is harmful to the mechanical properties of the copper–nickel–tin alloy, is inhibited mightily during the annealing process, possibly due to the existence of the Ni5Si2 primary phase. Therefore, the as-annealed sample of the Cu–6Ni–6Sn–0.6Si alloy possesses high tensile strength and elongation, which are 967 MPa and 12%, respectively.  相似文献

Precipitate phases in an Mg–7Gd–3Y–2Zn–0.5Zr alloy aged isothermally at 240 °C were examined using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-angle annular dark-field scanning TEM. The two types of precipitation sequence that involve Mg–Gd and long period stacking ordered (LPSO) type were found. The LPSO type sequence consisted of the precipitation of γ′′, γ′, 14H-LPSO/18R-LPSO. The Mg–Gd type precipitation sequence involved the formation of β′(b.c.o.) and β1(f.c.c.). The sequence, morphology, distribution, and crystal structure of these precipitates formed during isothermal aging were investigated. The results indicated that the priority precipitation of Mg–Gd and LPSO type sequences during aging can be affected by Nd, which has a higher diffusion coefficient than Gd and Y. The dislocation structures and strengthening mechanism were also discussed.  相似文献

In this study, large-sized Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy billets were prepared by direct chill casting imposed with annular electromagnetic stirring and intercooling; a process named uniform direct chill casting. The effects of uniform direct chill casting on grain size and the alloying element distribution of the billets were investigated and compared with those of the normal direct chill casting method. The results show that the microstructures were refined and the homogeneity of the alloying elements distribution was greatly improved by imposing the annular electromagnetic stirring and intercooling. In uniform direct chill casting, explosive nucleation can be triggered, originating from the mold wall and dendrite fragments for grain refinement. The effects of electromagnetic stirring on macrosegregation are discussed with consideration of the centrifugal force that drives the movement of melt from the central part towards the upper-periphery part, which could suppress the macrosegregation of alloying elements. The refined grain can reduce the permeability of the melt in the mushy zone that can restrain macrosegregation.  相似文献

An ultrafine-grained (UFG) Al–Cu–Mg alloy (AA2024) was produced by surface mechanical grinding treatment (SMGT) with a high strain rate, and the precipitation behavior inside the grain and at the grain boundary was investigated. During SMGT, element segregation at the boundary was rarely observed, since the solute atoms were impeded by dislocations produced during SMGT. During early aging, the atomic fraction of Cu at the grain boundary with SMGT alloys was approximately 2.4-fold larger than that without SMGT alloys, the diffusion rate of Cu atoms from the grain toward the grain boundaries was accelerated with SMGT alloys, because a higher local elastic stress and diffusion path were provided by high-density dislocations. The combined action, in terms of the composition of the alloy, the atomic radius, the diffusion path, and the diffusion driving force provided by high-density dislocations with SMGT alloys, led to a Cu/Mg atomic ratio of approximately 6.8 at the grain boundary. The average size of the precipitates inside the grain was approximately 2- and 10-fold larger than that formed after later aging with and without SMGT alloys, due to more nucleation sites at dislocation located inside the grain with SMGT alloys having attracted and captured numerous solute atoms during the aging process.  相似文献

Biodegradable Mg–Zn–Ca-based metallic glasses (MGs) present improved strength and superior corrosion resistance, compared to crystalline Mg. In particular, in vivo and in vitro attempts reveal that biodegradable Mg–Zn–Ca-based MGs possess excellent biocompatibility, suggesting that they are ideal candidates for temporary implant materials. However, the limited size and severe brittleness prevent their widespread commercialization. In this review, we firstly summarize the microstructure characteristic and mechanical properties of Mg–Zn–Ca-based MGs. Then, we provide a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the recent progress of the biocorrosion and biocompatibility of Mg–Zn–Ca-based MGs. Last, but not least, the outlook towards the fabrication routes, composition design, structure design, and reinforcement approaches of Mg–Zn–Ca-based MGs are briefly proposed.  相似文献

The effect of gallium on the oxide film structure and overall oxidation resistance of low melting point Sn–Bi–Zn alloys was investigated under air atmosphere using thermogravimetric analyses. The liquid alloys studied had a Ga content of 1–7 wt.%. The results showed that the growth rates of the surface scale formed on the Sn–Bi–Zn–Ga alloys conformed to the parabolic law. The oxidation resistance of Sn–Bi–Zn alloys was improved by Ga addition and the activation energies increased from 12.05 kJ∙mol−1 to 22.20 kJ∙mol−1. The structure and elemental distribution of the oxide film surface and cross-section were found to become more complicated and denser with Ga addition. Further, the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction show that Ga elements accumulate on the surface of the liquid metal to form oxides, which significantly slowed the oxidation of the surface of the liquid alloy.  相似文献

The microstructure, mechanical, tribological, and corrosion properties of Fe–Cr–Al–Y-based oxide-precipitation-hardened (OPH) alloy at room temperature are presented. Two OPH alloys with a composition of 0.72Fe–0.15Cr–0.06Al–0.03Mo–0.01Ta–0.02Y2O3 and 0.03Y2O3 (wt.%) were prepared by mechanical alloying with different milling times. After consolidation by hot rolling, the alloys presented a very fine microstructure with a grain size of approximately 180 nm. Such a structure is relatively brittle, and its mechanical properties are enhanced by heat treatment. Annealing was performed at three temperatures (1000 °C, 1100 °C, and 1200 °C), with a holding time from 1 to 20 h. Tensile testing, wear testing, and corrosion testing were performed to evaluate the effect of heat treatment on the behavior and microstructural properties. The grain size increased almost 10 times by heat treatment, which influenced the mechanical properties. The ultimate tensile strength increased up to 300% more compared to the initial state. On the other hand, heat treatment has a negative effect on corrosion and wear resistance.  相似文献
