The purpose of this study was to describe the effects of motivating factors and characteristics of the nursing profession on students selecting nursing as a career. Students from three types of programs in North Carolina (N = 495) were asked to complete a survey during the first month of their nursing program. Motivating factors influencing the decision to become a nurse were past experience with a loved one or self being ill and/or hospitalized, past health care work experience, and having a family member or friend who was a nurse. Characteristics about the nursing profession influencing career decisions were care and concern for others, job security, and variety of work settings. None of the motivating factors nor characteristics of the nursing profession differed among students from each program type. Data from this survey can be used to developed appropriate recruitment strategies for each program type.  相似文献

This study was conducted to explore the influence factors of a preceptorship in career choices following student nurses' graduations. A total number of 326 student nurses in their fifth year of junior nursing college were selected as participants. A validated and reliable questionnaire was used in this study. Data were analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) for windows for percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's correlation. The results showed that: (1) the first five factors influencing student nurses' career choices were good unit environment, nurse's professional role, self-professional knowledge deficiency, nurse's professional knowledge, and patient's and family's good feedback; (2) the correlation between the chosen field of practice and willingness to work after graduation showed a strong relationship in all areas. Notably, the preceptorship had an impact on student nurses selecting a nursing career. These results can give nurse educators guidance in preparing student nurses as they enter the work force.  相似文献

While there is no single path to career advancement in nursing, there are developmental tools and organizational systems to promote nurses' career advancement and to assist in the organization of professional accomplishments. As nurses achieve additional credentialing, certification, licensure and academic credentials, it is important that they list these credentials after their names to market their career accomplishments and expertise. Career tool boxes such as a file system, resume and professional portfolio, are key organizational systems for nurses to keep track of their success and to promote their careers in nursing.  相似文献

In order to evaluate ICPs, criteria for success must be identified. The key areas to consider are quality of patient care, staff and patient satisfaction, documentation and cost. [目的]了解护士长职业生涯成功的现状及其影响因素,为护士的职业生涯成功教育、管理提供参考和依据。[方法]采用客观职业生涯成功问卷和主观职业生涯成功问卷、职业发展状况调查表、职前和职后调查表以及自行设计的一般资料调查表对88名护士长进行测评。[结果]职业生涯成功状况得分为(37.450±5.272)分,得分率为68.10%;职业发展状况、职后经历中的团队合作及组织政策对职业生涯成功影响较大;职前教育中,选择专业的原因影响主观职业生涯成功,奖学金的获得及担任学生干部情况影响客观职业生涯成功。[结论]护士长职业生涯成功状况处于中上水平,影响因素为多方面,应关注护士长职业生涯成功状况的影响因素并开展相应的教育与培训,以促进护理事业的发展。  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the contributions of sociodemographic factors, medical conditions, and nursing dependency to nursing problems identified and nursing care provided to patients during a home care nursing visit. Patient interviews, direct observation of nursing care, record abstraction, and nurses' reports were used to obtain data from 438 patients receiving nursing visits from a certified home health agency. Nursing dependency was the strongest predictor of the nursing problems of and nursing care provided to home care patients. Measures of nursing dependency should be incorporated in models to determine the extent of nursing problems and nursing care provided in the home and in models of home care nursing reimbursement. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Nursing education in Hong Kong has undergone major reform in recent years, similar to that in Australia and the United Kingdom (UK), involving the introduction of degree level preparation. Although there were some changes in the nursing education system, the reform was considered slow. While a combination of complex factors contributed to the reform, the effects of nurse leaders was instrumental in influencing policy development. AIM: This study investigated the factors that influenced the effectiveness of nursing leadership in the reform of nursing education in Hong Kong. DESIGN: A case study approach was used. Methods of data collection included document search and semi-structured interviews (n = 27). The time frame of the study extended from the first proposal of nursing degree programme in the year 1985 to 2000 by which 200 nursing degree places were secured. RESULTS: Situational variables that impacted on leadership effectiveness were categorized as barriers and facilitators. Barriers were related to nursing professional socialization in a health care system that was dominated by the medical profession. Facilitators were related to socio-politic-economical changes in the wider environment. CONCLUSION: This study suggests the importance of education, positive socialization and unity in promoting nursing leadership development.  相似文献

目的调查职业院校护生主观职业障碍现状及其影响因素。方法采用一般资料调查表和大学生主观职业障碍问卷对325名职业院校护生进行调查。结果职业院校护生主观职业障碍总均分为(2.36±0.33)分;参加社会活动情况、学习成绩、对护理专业的态度、家庭人均月收入是影响职业院校护生主观职业障碍的主要影响因素。结论护理教育者应根据职业院校护生主观职业障碍的特点,适应性地提供就业指导与服务,做好职业生涯规划教育,使其顺利就业。  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To identify demographic, morphological and biochemical characteristics of interstitial pregnancies that are associated with a successful outcome of conservative treatment (expectant management or medical treatment with methotrexate). METHODS: Over a period of 6 years all clinically stable women with a certain ultrasound diagnosis of interstitial ectopic pregnancy were managed either expectantly (no interventions) or medically (systemic or local methotrexate injection). The outcome of conservative treatment was compared to a number of diagnostic parameters, which were recorded at the initial visit. The treatment was classified as successful if serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) level declined below 20 IU/L without the need for any additional interventions, such as the administration of methotrexate or surgery. RESULTS: A total of 42 interstitial pregnancies were diagnosed during the study period. Out of 35 women included in the final analysis 7 (20%) were managed expectantly and 28 (80%) received either local (n = 23) or systemic methotrexate (n = 5). There were no significant differences in the success rates of expectant treatment and treatment with either systemic or local methotrexate. The initial median serum hCG was significantly lower in women with successful conservative management (3216 IU/L vs. 15 900 IU/L; P < 0.05) but there were no other significant differences between cases with successful and failed treatment. CONCLUSION: The measurement of serum hCG at the initial visit may be used to predict the likelihood of successful conservative treatment of interstitial pregnancy.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to identify factors influencing quality of chest compression depth in nursing students. A convenience sample of 102 female nursing students enrolled in a cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills training session. Each student performed 3 min of chest compression skills on a Resusci Anne SkillReporter manikin for measurements of both depth and rate. Nursing students with correct compression depth (50–60 mm) had higher body weight (t = ?2.02, P = 0.046) and body mass index (t = ?2.19, P = 0.031) compared with students in the incorrect depth group. Mean chest compression depth was shallower in underweight nursing students compared with normal weight or overweight students (F = 8.89, P < 0.001). Body weight was a significant factor influencing quality of chest compression depth (F = 4.25, P = 0.003). Educational intervention targeting underweight nursing students might need to enhance the quality of chest compression skills.  相似文献

The learning environment extends beyond the classroom and establishing an e-learning culture is seen as essential to the future of nurse education and the facilitation of life long learning. This paper reports on a study that sought to identify the factors that may influence the utilisation of e-learning by nursing, midwifery and health visiting students undertaking post-registration studies. The findings presented draw on quantitative and qualitative data drawn from analysis of a questionnaire exploring experience and perceptions of e-learning. This research finds the perception of e-learning is positively influenced by its flexibility in time management, pace of learning, self direction and widening access to information. Potential barriers relate to the functional capability of students, perceived levels of computer literacy, perceptions of e-learning as time consuming, competing home life elements and the lack of work based support. Student expectations in relation to reasons for choosing this mode of learning and the probability that they may be inadequately supported to make the best use e-learning were inherent in the findings. This raised questions of the potential for inequity in educational delivery with increasing use of e-learning. The implications from this research highlight the challenge for nurse educators in understanding, developing awareness of and identifying strategies to manage these factors.  相似文献

目的:探讨影响老年护理院护士职业吸引力的因素。方法:采用半结构质性访谈的方法对苏州市3家老年护理院的16名护士进行访谈。结果:通过Colaizzi分析法提炼出3个主题。主题1,护士选择老年护理院工作的因素是亲戚或同学介绍、老年护理院就业门槛低;主题2,影响老年护理院护士职业吸引力的积极因素是认识和接受老年护理、工作相对大医院轻松、快速自我成长;主题3,影响老年护理院护士职业吸引力的消极因素是护士职业认可度低、生活婚恋压力大、外出培训机会少。结论:苏州市老年护理院护士职业吸引力低,建议政府相关部门通过开展护理专业学生的老年护理教育、提高老年护理人员薪酬待遇、提升老年护理人员职业发展空间等策略来提高老年护理院护士的职业吸引力。  相似文献
