Background and aimsThere is a large body of research focused on various aspects related to Ramadan intermittent fasting (RIF) and human health and disease. This study aimed to quantify the bibliometric data of RIF medical research over the past seven decades and explore these variables qualitatively via text mining analysis.MethodsWe used the Scopus search engine to identify published articles related to RIF from inception to December 31, 2021. All types of research articles were included. Scientometric and bibliometric measures were determined using Excel, Biblioshiny, and VOSviewer. This study proposed a bibliometric and text mining method to qualitatively and quantitatively recognize the RIF research trend.ResultsThe Scopus search returned 1915 relevant articles. Most citations pertained to publications from the last two decades, and most publications were original research articles. These publications had received around 27,000 citations, and the 20 most prolific publishing journals had an average h-index of 112.25. More than one-third of all medical publications were in open-access journals. There was a 13-fold increase in medical research on RIF over the past few decades. We identified the 10 most prolific publishing countries, institutes, journals, and authors. We also identified five scientific hotspots of RIF scientific literature, which were: diabetes, metabolic health, public health, physiology, and maternity.ConclusionThis is the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis of medical research related to RIF. The research gaps identified will shape future research directions and foster collaborative research activities toward enhanced medical nutrition research revolving around RIF.  相似文献

Background/ObjectivesThe number of times an article is cited in scientific journals reflects its impact on a specific biomedical field or specialty and reflects the impact of the authors' creativity. Our purpose was to characterize the most frequently cited articles about acute pancreatitis.MethodsWe utilized the 2010 edition of Journal Citation Reports and Social Sciences Citation Index database to determine the most frequently cited articles published after 1956. The 100 most frequently cited articles were selected. Articles were evaluated for several characteristics including number of citations, publication time, country of origin, institution, journal, publication type of article and authorship.ResultsThe most frequently cited article received 1281 citations and the least frequently cited article received 163 citations, with a mean of 266.65 citations per article. These citation classics were published in 31 high-impact journals, led by Gastroenterology. Of the 100 articles, 56 were clinical observational studies, 20 concerned basic science and 15 were review articles. The articles originated from 16 countries, with the United States contributing 47 articles; 56 institutions produced these 100 top-cited articles, led by University of Ulm (9 publications) and New York University (9 publications); 23 persons authored 3 or more of the top-cited articles led by Imrie (10 publications). Conclusion“Citation classics” about acute pancreatitis are detected in both experimental and clinical research field, which provide a historical perspective on the scientific progress and allow for recognition of important advances in this specialty.  相似文献

Background:Artificial intelligence (AI) has had a significant impact on our lives and plays many roles in various fields. By analyzing the past 30 years of AI trends in the field of nephrology, using a bibliography, we wanted to know the areas of interest and future direction of AI in research related to the kidney. Methods:Using the Institute for Scientific Information Web of Knowledge database, we searched for articles published from 1990 to 2019 in January 2020 using the keywords AI; deep learning; machine learning; and kidney (or renal). The selected articles were reviewed manually at the points of citation analysis. Results:From 218 related articles, we selected the top fifty with 1188 citations in total. The most-cited article was cited 84 times and the least-cited one was cited 12 times. These articles were published in 40 journals. Expert Systems with Applications (three articles) and Kidney International (three articles) were the most cited journals. Forty articles were published in the 2010s, and seven articles were published in the 2000s. The top-fifty most cited articles originated from 17 countries; the USA contributed 16 articles, followed by Turkey with four articles. The main topics in the top fifty consisted of tumors (11), acute kidney injury (10), dialysis-related (5), kidney-transplant related (4), nephrotoxicity (4), glomerular disease (4), chronic kidney disease (3), polycystic kidney disease (2), kidney stone (2), kidney image (2), renal pathology (2), and glomerular filtration rate measure (1).Conclusions:After 2010, the interest in AI and its achievements increased enormously. To date, AIs have been investigated using data that are relatively easy to access, for example, radiologic images and laboratory results in the fields of tumor and acute kidney injury. In the near future, a deeper and wider range of information, such as genetic and personalized database, will help enrich nephrology fields with AI technology.  相似文献

Background:There are no reports on global research status of gastroenterology and hepatology (GI). This study was conducted to reveal the current global research status and trends in GI.Methods:Articles published during 2009 to 2018 in international GI journals were retrieved from the PubMed database. The top 20 countries by output were determined. The gross domestic product (GDP) of each country was also retrieved to figure out the correlation between outputs in GI and economy. The 5 highest-ranking countries were compared in the number of total articles, articles per capita, articles published in top journals, the accumulated impact factor (IF), and average IF. Total articles and articles per capita of the 5 countries were conducted time-trend analysis. The frequently-used terms in titles and abstracts of articles published in 2009 and 2018 were retrieved to conduct co-occurrence analysis to figure out the change of research highlights in GI.Results:A total of 120,267 articles were included, of which 116,485 articles were from 20 highest-output countries. There was a positive correlation between output and GDP (r = 0.921, P < .001). The USA, Japan, China, Italy, and the UK were the 5 highest-ranking countries. The USA was the largest contributor with 26,215 articles, accounting for 17.4% of the total, but with no significant increasing trend (P = .122). Other 4 countries all showed increasing trends (all P < .001). For articles per capita, Italy ranked 1st among the 5 countries with 1591.0 articles per 10 million. The USA showed a decreasing trend (P = .026), other 4 countries all showed increasing trends (all P < .001). The UK had the highest average IF (6.685). For change of research highlights, it is more inclined to research of endoscopy, inflammatory bowel diseases, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Conclusion:It is delightful that the global research output in GI field would be continuingly increased as the major highest-output countries showed increasing trends. However, the developing countries fell behind both in quantity and quality when compared with developed countries.  相似文献

BackgroundThere are various treatments for facial nerve palsy, and research into this topic is ongoing. In the present study, we carried out bibliometric and visualized analyses to identify the trends of research into facial nerve palsy treatment.MethodsTo identify articles, the SCOPUS database was searched for articles published from its inception to December 27, 2020. The search was conducted twice, with Search 1 investigating general treatment trends and Search 2 narrowing the scope to complementary and alternative treatment. The extracted keywords were analyzed using the Visualization Of Similarities (VOS) viewer. Through analysis of keywords, research hotspots in the treatment of facial nerve palsy were identified.ResultsA total of 1609 and 223 articles were identified in Searches 1 and 2, respectively. The number of articles published each year showed a tendency to increase, and most of the studies were only conducted in a few countries. In terms of subject area, “medicine” was overwhelmingly the most common(77.6%). Based on the analysis of 316 keywords in Search1, “medication treatment,” and “complementary and alternative treatment” were the hotspots of research.ConclusionThis study provides the overall trends of facial nerve palsy treatment. To date, research on medication treatment has been main focus, and antiviral use among medication treatment and complementary and alternative treatment has emerged in recent years.  相似文献

Background and aimsThe publications on COVID-19 have tremendously increased. Thus, there is a need to summarize and curate this evidence from the literature. This study determined the characteristics and trends of published articles about COVID-19 in Southeast Asia (SEA) through a bibliometric analysis.MethodsA systematic review of literature on COVID-19 in SEA countries was performed using the Scopus database from 2020 to August 2021. Bibliometric information was obtained from Scopus and network visualization was conducted using VOSviewer software.ResultsA total of 706 articles were obtained in this study. The number of publications increased exponentially from 2020 up to present. Most of the research outputs were produced by authors and institutions from Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. The other countries with highest cases of COVID-19 in SEA such as Indonesia and Philippines have lower scientific output in this field. GDP, research and development expenditure, number of researchers and physicians, and international collaborations were significantly correlated to research productivity in COVID-19 in SEA.ConclusionThis study showed the trends and gaps for research in SEA and the facilitators of research productivity in COVID-19. SEA countries should consider increasing the support for COVID-19 research to generate knowledge that can be used in controlling COVID-19 in the region.  相似文献

Introduction and objectivesWe used bibliometric techniques to analyze the participation of Spanish institutions in research on major cardiovascular topics during the last 4 decades.MethodsBibliometric indicators of production, collaboration and impact were obtained from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database. Search strategies were used in major topics and institutional collaboration networks were identified, represented using the Kamada-Kawai algorithm.ResultsGlobal cardiovascular publications doubled from 2000 to 2018. In 2018, those by Spanish authors represented 2.33%, with a participation of between 7% and 1.84%, depending on the topics analyzed. The offset with respect to global production was between 0 and 7 years. Annual growth rates were higher in more recent topics. Revista Española de Cardiología published the largest number of articles from Spanish institutions. The journals generating the highest number of citations in the chosen topics were the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Europace, and the European Heart Journal. Analysis of collaboration revealed a close interrelation between Spanish and foreign institutions, as well as groups with high production publishing independently.ConclusionsThe analysis disaggregated by subject showed the sustained growth of Spanish cardiovascular scientific production and more rapid growth in recently appearing topics. Collaboration networks showed a high degree of interrelation between Spanish and foreign institutions, including hospitals, universities, research institutes, and scientific societies.  相似文献

Background:Toll-like receptors (TLRs), a family of innate pattern-recognition receptors, have been exploited as a target for antitumor strategy. An increasing number of TLR agonists, serving as immunotherapeutics or vaccine adjuvants, were developed. This study aimed at exploring the status and trend of current researches on TLR agonists through bibliometric analysis. Methods:Original publications on TLR agonists were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. Data were analyzed in terms of publication outputs, journals, countries, institutions, authors, co-authorship, co-citation, research hotspots, and evolution trends through VOSviewer and CiteSpace. Results:A total of 1914 TLR agonists-related articles, published in 612 academic journals between 2000 and 2019, were enrolled in the study. The Journal of Immunology published the most publications, followed by PLoS One and Blood. The USA that is in possession of the largest number of articles and the most extensive cooperators was the most leading country in this field. University of Minnesota ranked the first in terms of paper totality, but its average citations ranking was lower than University of Pennsylvania. Gudkov AV was the most productive author, whose team reported a TLR5 agonist that had radioprotective activity in mouse and primate models in 2008. The paper of Akira Shizuo, professor of Osaka University, was widely cited by international peers. The research trend of TLR agonists has undergone 3 periods: mechanisms of TLR signalings in immunotherapy (2000–2010), discovery of TLR agonists (2011–2014), application, therapeutic evaluation, and drug design of TLR agonists (2015–2019).Conclusion:This study provides investigators a landscape of TLR agonists research from the perspective of bibliometrics.  相似文献

BackgroundThe global prevalence of allergic diseases has increased dramatically in recent years and are now recognized as significant chronic diseases worldwide. One of the most important allergens that causes allergic diseases is house dust mites.ObjectiveThis study aims to present a bibliometric overview of research published on dust mites between 1980 and 2018.MethodsArticles published from 1980 to 2018 were analyzed using bibliometric methods. The keywords “Dust mite*,” and “Dermatophagoides” were used in the Web of Science (WoS). Simple linear regression analysis was used to estimate the number of future publications on this subject.ResultsA total of 4742 publications were found, 2552 (53.8%) of them were articles. Most of the articles were on subjects related to immunology (1274; 49.9%) and allergy (1229; 48.1%). Clinical and Experimental Allergy (222; 8.7%) was the journal with the most publications. The USA was the country that most contributed to the literature with 461 (18.1%) articles. The countries producing the most publications on this subject were developed countries. The most active author was W.R. Thomas (66; 2.5%). The most productive institution was the University of Western Australia (91; 3.6%). The most cited article was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.ConclusionAccording to the findings, developed countries were the most productive in publishing on house dust mites. By planning multinational research rather than regional studies, it may be suggested that researchers in underdeveloped or developing countries could also conduct more research on this subject.  相似文献

Background and aimsThere has been an increased understanding in the pathophysiology and management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in recent years. This study aimed to evaluate the trends and characteristics of PCOS publications in Southeast Asia (SEA) through a bibliometric analysis.MethodsSystematic review of literature on PCOS in SEA countries between 1975 and 2020 was performed using the Scopus database. All published studies on PCOS conducted in or published by authors from any of the countries in SEA were included in this analysis. Bibliographic information was obtained, and visualization of collaboration networks of countries and keywords was conducted using VOSviewer software.ResultsA total of 260 articles were included in this analysis. The number of PCOS publications in SEA continued to increase through the years. The country with the highest number of publications was Thailand while Singapore produced the most publications with the greatest impact. The focus of research in SEA was on PCOS prevalence, risk factors, infertility, and metabolic complications. A country's fertility rate, research and development expenditures (%GDP), number of researchers per million people, and international research collaborations significantly correlated with PCOS research impact in SEA.ConclusionThis is the first bibliometric analysis in PCOS research in SEA. Despite the continuing increase in PCOS publications in SEA, it still lags compared to other regions. Countries in SEA should consider policies and strategies directed at increasing research support and encouraging international collaborations for local researchers to produce more meaningful publications and augment PCOS knowledge in the region.  相似文献

Background:This study intends to create a series of scientific maps to quantitatively estimate hot spots and emerging trends in segmentectomy versus lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) research with bibliometric methods. Methods:Articles published on segmentectomy versus lobectomy for NSCLC were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Extracted information was analyzed quantitatively using bibliometric analysis by CiteSpace to find hot spots and frontiers in this research area. Results:A total of 362 scientific articles on segmentectomy versus lobectomy for NSCLC were collected, and the annual publication rate increased over time from 1992 to 2019. The leading country and the leading institution were the United States and University of Pittsburgh, respectively. Furthermore, the most prolific researchers were, namely, James D. Luketich, Rodney J. Landreneau, Matthew J. Schuchert, Morihito Okada, and David O. Wilson. The analysis of keywords pointed out that carcinoma, bronchogenic carcinoma, limited resection, segmental resection, and morbidity are hot spots and lymph node dissection, minimally invasive surgery, impact, epidemiology, and high risk are research frontiers in this field. Conclusion:Publications related to segmentectomy versus lobectomy for NSCLC have made great achievements based on bibliometric analysis in recent years. However, further research and global collaboration are still required. Finally, we find that segmentectomy for the treatment of NSCLC is receiving much more attention from researchers globally compared with lobectomy in this research area.  相似文献

Background:DNA methylation is a dynamically reversible form of epigenetics. Dynamic regulation plays an important role in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). However, there have been few bibliometric studies in this field. We aimed to visualize the research results and hotspots of DNA methylation in CVDs using a bibliometric analysis to provide a scientific direction for future research. Methods:Publications related to DNA methylation in CVDs from January 1, 2001, to September 15, 2021, were searched and confirmed from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace 5.7 and VOSviewer 1.6.15 were used for bibliometric and knowledge-map analyses. Results:A total of 2617 publications were included in 912 academic journals by 15,584 authors from 963 institutions from 85 countries/regions. Among them, the United States of America, China, and England were the top 3 countries contributing to the field of DNA methylation. Harvard University, Columbia University, and University of Cambridge were the top 3 contributing institutions in terms of publications and were closely linked. PLoS One was the most published and co-cited journal. Baccarelli Andrea A published the most content, while Barker DJP had the highest frequency of co-citations. The keyword cluster focused on the mechanism, methyl-containing substance, exposure/risk factor, and biomarker. In terms of research hotspots, references with strong bursts, which are still ongoing, recently included “epigenetic clock” (2017–2021), “obesity, smoking, aging, and DNA methylation” (2017–2021), and “biomarker and epigenome-wide association study” (2019–2021).Conclusions:We used bibliometric and visual methods to identify research hotspots and trends in DNA methylation in CVDs. Epigenetic clocks, biomarkers, environmental exposure, and lifestyle may become the focus and frontier of future research.  相似文献

《The Journal of asthma》2013,50(10):1013-1020
Background and Objective. Countries in the Asia-Pacific region have experienced an increase in the prevalence of asthma, and they have been actively involved in asthma research recently. This study aimed to analyze asthma research from Asia-Pacific in the last decade by bibliometric method. Method. Asthma articles from Asia-Pacific countries published between 1998 and 2007 were retrieved from PubMed by searching MeSH for “asthma.” Results. Most of published asthma articles in Asia-Pacific are from affluent countries in northeast Asia and Oceania. Australia and Japan have been the regional powerhouses since they contributed more than half of regional articles on asthma. Asthma publications from emerging economies in Asia such as South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, have dramatically increased in the last decade in terms of quantity and quality aspects and were considerable sources of basic and translational research in the region. Mainland China and India have significantly increased their research capacity as well, but quality needs to be improved. Asthma publications from New Zealand and Australia, countries with the highest asthma prevalence rates in the world, yielded highest citation counts per articles and were published in journals with high impact factor. Asthma research parameters per million population correlate well with gross domestic product per capita. Almost half (41%) of total articles were produced from only 25 institutions in the region and almost half of them (47%) were published in 20 journals. Conclusions. Asthma research in Asia-Pacific were mainly conducted in countries in Oceania and Northeast Asia and research performance strongly correlated with the nation's wealth. Interesting asthma research projects in the region were recommended.  相似文献
