A case of nonendemic American Burkitt's lymphoma with jaw involvement is presented. The oral findings are described and the distinctions of American form of the disease from the African form are discussed.  相似文献

Burkitt's lymphoma is the commonest of the jaw tumours affecting children in some parts of the tropical Africa. In the Sudan, the tumour appears to be relatively uncommon and our study showed only 7 cases during a 5-year period from December 1975 through to December 1980. The clinical features, aetiology, histopathology and the treatment of the tumour are discussed and the literature briefly reviewed.  相似文献

We report an unusual case of Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) presenting with jaw lesions in a 14-year-old Chinese boy. The patient presented initially with mobile teeth in all 4 jaw quadrants, with corresponding radiographic detection of alveolar bone crest destruction and periapical bone resorption in the absence of clinically detectable jaw tumors. Moreover, radiographs taken only 17 days later showed clearly distinguishable signs of more extensive alveolar bone destruction compared with the initial radiographs.  相似文献

An African type of histoplasmosis with oral involvement has been described. It differs from the histoplasmosis caused by Histoplasma capsulatum. This article discusses the clinicopathologic differences and describes a case seen in Nigeria in which the patient had an oral lesion resembling Burkitt's lymphoma but also had disseminated lesions. The treatment is discussed.  相似文献

Burkitt's lymphoma is a tumour that most often affects the jaws, especially in endemic areas of Africa. In non-endemic areas, the jaws are affected in about 15-18% of cases. A case is presented which demonstrates the significance of jaw lesions in the disease. The history and pathogenesis of the disease also are discussed.  相似文献

A confirmed case of American Burkitt's lymphoma with jaw involvement in a 12-year-old Caucasian girl from western Pennsylvania is described. There were clinical manifestations in the mandibular quadrants and radiographic manifestations in all mandibular and maxillary quadrants. One of the earliest clinical manifestations of the lymphoma in the mandible was observed by a family dentist. The lymphoma later produced a deterioration of the overlying mandibular mucosa, moderate expansion of the cortex of the mandible, and paresthesia of the lip with probable V3 involvement. Four months after the first admission there were radiographic manifestations of the lymphoma in both the maxillary and mandibular quadrants. Early diagnosis and appropriate management may improve the prognosis.  相似文献

A case is presented in which posterior tooth mobility and pain, bilateral intraoral swelling of the mandible, and anterior open bite following an incident of facial trauma were the presenting symptoms of a 4-year-old, white American male with Burkitt-type malignant lymphoma. Radiographic examination revealed multiple osteolytic lesions in the body of the mandible, with loss of osseous trabecular architecture, and generalized loss of lamina dura in both maxillary and mandibular arches. The patient also had bone marrow involvement at the time of diagnosis. Following the initial course of chemotherapy, the patient experienced a significant resolution of the bilateral mandibular swelling, anterior open bite, tooth mobility, and dental pain. Relapse occurred shortly after remission was achieved, with tumor metastasis to the central nervous system and testes. The tumor remained resistant to further chemotherapeutic treatments and radiation strategems. Because of renal and metabolic complications, Burkitt's lymphoma constitutes an oncologic emergency. If untreated, this rapidly growing tumor is fatal. Early interception and referral of these cases by the examining dentist is crucial.  相似文献
