Friction spot joining is an alternative technique for joining metals with polymers and composites. This study investigated the fatigue performance of aluminum alloy 2024/carbon-fiber-reinforced poly(phenylene sulfide) joints that were produced with friction spot joining. The surface of the aluminum was pre-treated using various surface treatment methods. The joined specimens were tested under dynamic loading using a load ratio of R = 0.1 and a frequency of 5 Hz. The tests were performed at different percentages of the lap shear strength of the joint. Three models—exponential, power law, and wear-out—were used to statistically analyze the fatigue life of the joints and to draw the stress–life (S–N) curves. The joints showed an infinite life of 25–35% of their quasi-static strength at 106 cycles. The joints surpassing 106 cycles were subsequently tested under quasi-static loading, showing no considerable reduction compared to their initial lap shear strength.  相似文献

Carbon products such as anodes and ramming paste must have well-defined physical, mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties to perform their functions effectively in the aluminum electrolysis cell. The physical and mechanical properties of these products are assigned during the shaping procedure in which compaction stresses are applied to the green carbon paste. The optimization of the shaping process is crucial to improving the properties of the carbon products and consequently to increasing the energy efficiency and decreasing the greenhouse gas emissions of the Hall–Héroult process. The objective of this study is to experimentally investigate the effect(s) of the strain rate, of the stress maximum amplitude, and of the unloading level on the behavior of a green carbon paste subjected to cyclic loading. To this end, experiments consisting of (1) cyclic compaction tests at different maximum stress amplitudes and strain rates, and (2) cyclic compaction tests with different unloading levels were carried out. The study obtained the following findings about the behavior of carbon paste subjected to cyclic loads. The strain rate in the studied range had no effect either on the evolution of the permanent strain as a function of the cycle number, nor on the shape of the stress–strain hysteresis during the cyclic loading. Moreover, samples of the same density that had been subjected to different maximum stress amplitudes in their loading history did not have the same shape of the stress–strain curve. On the other hand, despite having different densities, samples subjected to the same number of cycles produce the same stress–strain curve during loading even though they were subjected to different maximum stress amplitudes in their loading histories. Finally, the level of unloading during each cycle of a cyclic test proved significant; when the sample was unloaded to a lower level of stress during each cycle, the permanent strain as a function of the cycle number was higher.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to study cyclic stress–strain deformation behavior of LaCoO3 as a function of loading and heating history. The ferroelastic hysteretic deformation of LaCoO3 at different stresses and temperatures was characterized using effective Young’s modulus, hysteresis loop area and creep strain shift parameters. The deformation behavior of LaCoO3 was not significantly affected by the previous loading and heating history when tested at constant temperature. The high temperature strength and Young’s modulus of LaCoO3 were higher compared to at room temperature. A creep strain shift parameter was introduced to characterize creep strain in LaCoO3 for the first time.  相似文献

In order to investigate the bond degradation mechanism and constitutive relationship of ribbed steel bars in engineered cementitious composites (ECCs) under cyclic loading, 12 groups of specimens were tested in this paper. The design parameters included ECC compressive strength, ECC flexural toughness, cover thickness, and anchorage length. The results indicated that the degradation of the bond behavior of the ribbed steel bars in the ECCs under cyclic loading was mainly caused by the degradation of the properties of the ECC material itself, concentrating on the development of cracks in the ECC, the extrusion and shear failure of the ECC between the steel bar ribs, and the continuous grinding of the ECC particles on the shear failure surface. The degradation of the bond stress–slip curves under cyclic loading was mainly reflected by the degradation in the ultimate bond strength and unloading stiffness. According to the monotonic loading test results, a monotonic bond stress–slip relationship model was proposed. On this basis, through building the hysteretic rules of the bond stress–slip curves under cyclic loading, a calculation model was proposed to predict the bond stress–slip constitutive relationship between the ribbed steel bars embedded in the ECCs under cyclic loading. Finally, the validity of the proposed model was verified by a comparison between the model curves and the tested curves.  相似文献

This paper describes methods, procedures, and results of cyclic loading tensile tests of a PBO FRCM composite. The main objective of the research is the evaluation of the effect of low- and high-cycle fatigue on the composite tensile properties, namely the tensile strength, ultimate tensile strain, and slope of the stress–strain curve. To this end, low- and high-cycle fatigue tests and post-fatigue tests were performed to study the composite behavior when subjected to cyclic loading and after being subjected to a different number of cycles. The results showed that the mean stress and amplitude of fatigue cycles affect the specimen behavior and mode of failure. In high-cycle fatigue tests, failure occurred due to progressive fiber filaments rupture. In low-cycle fatigue, the stress–strain response and failure mode were similar to those observed in quasi-static tensile tests. The results obtained provide important information on the fatigue behavior of PBO FRCM coupons, showing the need for further studies to better understand the behavior of existing concrete and masonry members strengthened with FRCM composites and subjected to cyclic loading.  相似文献

This research examined the drying–wetting cycles induced changes in undrained triaxial shear strength parameters and microstructural changes of Yili loess. The drying–wetting cycles were selected as 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 30. Then, we collected Yili loess samples and performed unconsolidated-undrained (U-U) triaxial shearing tests to ascertain the variation in shear strength parameters with drying–wetting cycles. Additionally, we investigated the microstructural changes of Yili loess samples under drying–wetting cycles simultaneously via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and scanning electron electroscopy (SEM). Finally, we established a grey correlation model between shear strength and microstructural parameters. Under U-U conditions, the prime finding was that the loess’s shear strength parameters changed overall after drying–wetting cycles; in particular, the internal friction angle φ dropped significantly while the cohesion c changed only slightly during cycles. For all the cycles, the first cycle gave the highest change. Soil morphology deterioration was evident at the initial stage of cycles. During the entire drying–wetting cyclic process, pore size distribution showed progressive variance from two-peak to a single-peak pattern, while both porosity and the fractal dimension of pores increased gradually towards stability. Soil particle morphology became slowly simple and reached the equilibrium state after 20 drying–wetting cycles. Under cyclic drying–wetting stress, the shear strength parameter changes were significantly correlated to microstructural modifications. This investigation was related to loess in the westerly region. The findings were expected to provide new insight into establishment of the connection between microstructure and macro stress–strain state of loess. To some extent, it provided a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of loess engineering geological disasters in Yili, Xinjiang and other areas with similar climate and soil types.  相似文献

The cyclic tensile behavior of steel-reinforced high strain-hardening ultrahigh-performance concrete (HSHUHPC) was investigated in this paper. In the experimental program, 12 HSHUHPC specimens concentrically placed in a single steel reinforcement under cyclic uniaxial tension were tested, accompanied by acoustic emission (AE) source locating technology, and 4 identical specimens under monotonic uniaxial tension were tested as references. The experimental variables mainly include the loading pattern, the diameter of the embedded steel rebar, and the level of target strain at each cycle. The tensile responses of the steel-reinforced HSHUHPC specimens were evaluated using multiple performance measures, including the failure pattern, load–strain response, residual strain, stiffness degradation, and the tension-stiffening behavior. The test results showed that the enhanced bond strength due to the inclusion of steel fibers transformed the failure pattern of the steel-reinforced HSHUHPC into a single, localized macro-crack in conjunction with a sprinkling of narrow and closely spaced micro-cracks, which intensified the strain concentration in the embedded steel rebar. Besides, it was observed that the larger the diameter of the embedded steel rebar, the smaller the maximum accumulative tensile strain under cyclic tension, which indicated that the larger the diameter of the embedded steel rebar, the greater the contribution to the tensile stiffness of steel-reinforced HSHUHPC specimens in the elastic–plastic stage. In addition, it was found that a larger embedded steel rebar appeared to reduce the tension-stiffening effect (peak tensile strength) of the HSHUHPC. Moreover, the residual strain and the stiffness of the steel-reinforced HSHUHPC were reduced by increasing the number of cycles and finally tended toward stability. Nevertheless, different target strain rates in each cycle resulted in different eventual cumulative tensile strain rates; hence the rules about failure pattern, residual strain, and loading stiffness were divergent. Finally, the relationship between the accumulative tensile strain and the loading stiffness degradation ratio under cyclic tension was proposed and the tension-stiffening effect was analyzed.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the compressive behavior of high-strength self-compacting concrete exposed to temperatures up to 600 °C. Ten different concrete compositions were tested, in which part of the cement (by weight) was replaced by three different mineral additives (5–15% metakaolin, 20–40% fly ash and 5–15% limestone). The stress–strain curves, compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and strain at peak stress were evaluated from uniaxial compression tests. Scanning electron microscope micrographs were also taken to evaluate the damage caused by the high temperatures. A sharp decrease in mechanical properties and an increase in peak strain were observed already after 200 °C for all mixes tested. The different mineral additives used in this study affected the variations of residual compressive strength by 24% and peak strain by 38%, while the variations of residual modulus elasticity were 14%. Comparing the obtained results with the recommendations for compressive strength given in regulatory code EN 1992-1-2 for high strength concrete, it can be concluded that the strength loss observed in EN 1992-1-2 at temperatures up to 400 °C is too conservative. The Popovics model for the relationship between stress and strain provided a good approximation for the experimentally determined stress–strain curves at different temperatures.  相似文献

In this paper, monotonic and cyclic loading/unloading tensile behavior of four different 3D needle-punched C/SiC composites are investigated. Under tensile loading, multiple micro parameters of tensile tangent modulus, tensile strength, and fracture strain are used to characterize tensile damage and fracture behavior. Under cyclic loading/unloading, multiple damage micro parameters of unloading residual strain, tensile peak strain, hysteresis loops width, hysteresis loops area, unloading and reloading inverse tangent modulus (ITM) are used to describe the tensile damage evolution. After tensile fracture, fracture surfaces were observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Damage of matrix cracking, interface debonding, fibers fracture and pullout in different plies is observed. Relationships between composite tensile mechanical behavior, damage parameters, and micro damage mechanisms are established. When the fiber volume fraction along the loading direction increases, the composite initial tangent modulus, tensile strength and fracture strain increase, and the unloading residual strain, peak strain, hysteresis width and hysteresis area decrease. For Types 1–4 3D needle-punched C/SiC composite, the fiber volume lies in the range of 25.6–32.8%, the composite initial tangent modulus was in the range of 161.4–220.4 GPa, the composite tensile strength was in the range of 64.4–112.3 MPa, and the composite fracture strain was in the range of 0.16–0.25%.  相似文献

The literature in the area of material fatigue indicates that the fatigue properties may change with the number of cycles. Researchers recommend taking this into account in fatigue life calculation algorithms. The results of simulation research presented in this paper relate to an algorithm for estimating the fatigue life of specimens subjected to block loading with a nonzero mean value. The problem of block loads using a novel calculation model is presented in this paper. The model takes into account the change in stress–strain curve parameters caused by mean strain. Simulation tests were performed for generated triangular waveforms of strains, where load blocks with changed mean strain values were applied. During the analysis, the degree of fatigue damage was compared. The results of calculations obtained for standard values of stress–strain parameters (for symmetric loads) and those determined, taking into account changes in the curve parameters, are compared and presented in this paper. It is shown that by neglecting the effect of the mean strain value on the K′ and n′ parameters and by considering only the parameters of the cyclic deformation curve for εm = 0 (symmetric loads), the ratio of the total degree of fatigue damage varies from 10% for εa = 0.2% to 3.5% for εa = 0.6%. The largest differences in the calculation for ratios of the partial degrees of fatigue damage were observed in relation to the reference case for the sequence of block n3, where εm = 0.4%. The simulation results show that higher mean strains change the properties of the material, and in such cases, it is necessary to take into account the influence of the mean value on the material response under block loads.  相似文献

Large-strain monotonic and cyclic loading tests of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheets were performed with a newly developed testing system, at different temperatures, ranging from room temperature to 250 °C. Behaviors showing significant twinning during initial in-plane compression and untwinning in subsequent tension at and slightly above room temperature were recorded. Strong yielding asymmetry and nonlinear hardening behavior were also revealed. Considerable Bauschinger effects, transient behavior, and variable permanent softening responses were observed near room temperature, but these were reduced and almost disappeared as the temperature increased. Different stress–strain responses were inherent to the activation of twinning at lower temperatures and non-basal slip systems at elevated temperatures. A critical temperature was identified to account for the transition between the twinning-dominant and slip-dominant deformation mechanisms. Accordingly, below the transition point, stress–strain curves of cyclic loading tests exhibited concave-up shapes for compression or compression following tension, and an unusual S-shape for tension following compression. This unusual shape disappeared when the temperature was above the transition point. Shrinkage of the elastic range and variation in Young’s modulus due to plastic strain deformation during stress reversals were also observed. The texture-induced anisotropy of both the elastic and plastic behaviors was characterized experimentally.  相似文献

The effect of the thermal properties of aggregates on the mechanical properties of high-strength concrete was evaluated under loading and high-temperature conditions. For the concrete, granite was selected as a natural aggregate, and ash-clay and clay as lightweight aggregates. The mechanical properties of the concrete (stress–strain, compressive strength, elastic modulus, thermal strain, and transient creep) were evaluated experimentally under uniform heating from 20 to 700 °C while maintaining the load at 0, 20, and 40% of the compressive strength at room temperature. Experimental results showed that the concrete containing lightweight aggregates had better mechanical properties, such as compressive strength and elastic modulus, than that of the concrete with a granite aggregate at high temperature. In particular, the concrete containing lightweight aggregates exhibited high compressive strength (60–80% of that at room temperature) even at 700 °C. Moreover, the concrete containing granite exhibited a higher thermal strain than that containing lightweight aggregates. The influence of the binding force under loaded conditions, however, was found to be larger for the latter type. The transient creep caused by the loading was constant regardless of the aggregate type below 500 °C but increased more rapidly when the coefficient of the thermal expansion of the aggregate was above 500 °C.  相似文献

The engineering behaviour of ballast is an important factor to determine the stability and safety of railway tracks. This paper examines the stress–strain, shear strength, peak deflection stress and reinforcement strength ratio of different reinforcement materials and reinforcement locations in ballast track bed layers based on large scale static triaxial shear tests. The results show that geogrid and waste tyre reinforcement have a significant effect on the peak deviator stress of railway track bed layers and the stress–strain relationship is strain-hardened. The peak deviator stress and shear strength of geogrid reinforcement are greater under the same conditions compared with waste tyres. The reinforcement of geogrid and waste tires increases the shear strength of the track bed significantly. The more layers of geogrid reinforcement, the more energy is required for the deformation of the track bed. The energy required for deformation is greater in the centre of the waste tyre than in the other reinforced forms, and the energy required for deformation is minimal in the fully reinforced form. Excessive tyre reinforcement changes the stiffness of the track bed layer, leading to an increase in the settlement rate. The reinforcement strength ratio between geogrid and waste tyre increases significantly with the increasing of the confining pressure and reinforcement layers. Moreover, the reinforcement strength ratio of the geogrid is significantly higher than that of the waste tyre.  相似文献

To reveal the differences between the mechanical properties of solid waste coarse aggregate concrete and natural coarse aggregate concrete (NCAC) under equal strength, the basic mechanical properties of coarse aggregate concrete with seven different solid wastes (i.e., self-combusted coal gangue, uncombusted coal gangue, marble sheet waste, granite sheet waste, iron waste rock, recycled concrete, and self-combusted coal gangue ceramicite) were tested, and the trends in failure morphology, elastic modulus, and the stress–strain full curves of the different solid waste coarse aggregate concretes were analyzed and compared with NCAC. Finally, the interfacial structure of the concrete was characterized by SEM. The results showed that C30 strength grade concrete was prepared with different solid waste coarse aggregates; however, the 28 d compressive strength, split tensile strength, axial compression strength, flexural strength, and elastic modulus of the concrete was 35.26–47.35, 2.13–3.35, 26.43–42.70, 2.83–3.94, and 17.3–31.2, respectively. The modulus of elasticity of the solid waste coarse aggregate concrete was smaller than the NCAC under equal strength, with a maximum difference of 45%. The peak compressive strain and ultimate compressive strain were larger than the NCAC, with a maximum difference of 43%. The crushing value of the solid waste coarse aggregate affected the splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity of the concrete to a greater extent than the compressive strength. The transition zone at the concrete interface of the coarse aggregates with different solid wastes varied widely. The porous micro-pumping effect of the self-combusted gangue and self-combusted gangue vitrified reinforced the concrete interface transition zone, and the polished surface of sheet waste, uncombusted gangue, and recycled concrete aggregate surface adhesion weakened the interface transition zone; Finally, the uniaxial compressive stress–strain curve model for concrete with different solid waste coarse aggregates was established based on the Guo Zhenhai model.  相似文献

To study the compressive mechanical properties and failure modes of TC11 titanium alloy fabricated by wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology in a large strain rate range at room temperature, the quasi-static and dynamic compression tests were carried out. In addition, optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to observe the metallographic structure and fracture morphology, respectively. The stress–strain curves in the range of 0.001 s−1–4000 s−1, original and post-deformation microstructures, macroscopic damage patterns, and microscopic fracture morphology were obtained at two different loading directions, including the scanning and deposition directions, respectively. In uniaxial compression experiments, the material showed little difference in mechanical properties between the scanning and deposition directions, exhibiting a strain rate strengthening effect. However, the strain rate sensitivity of the material under quasi-static loading conditions is much less than that under dynamic loading conditions. In addition, combining the stress–strain curve with the fracture morphology analysis, the plasticity in the scanning direction is better than in the deposition direction. Based on the experimental results, a modified Johnson–Cook (JC) constitutive model considering strain rate sensitivity and the effect of strain rate on strain hardening was proposed, and the parameters were determined using a Multiple Population Genetic Algorithm (MPGA). The obtained constitutive model is in good agreement with the experimental data, which can provide a reference for the engineering numerical calculation of TC11 titanium alloy for WAAM. This study also provides a fundamental databank for the application and design of WAAM TC11 alloy in the manufacturing of large and complex structural parts.  相似文献

A novel damage model for concrete has been developed, which can reflect the complex hysteresis phenomena of concrete under cyclic loading, as well as other nonlinear behaviors such as stress softening, stiffness degradation, and irreversible deformation. The model cleverly transforms the complex multiaxial stress state into a uniaxial state by equivalent strain, with few computational parameters and simple mathematical expression. The uniaxial tensile and compressive stress–strain curves matching the actual characteristics are used to accommodate the high asymmetry of concrete in tension and compression, respectively. Meanwhile, an unloading path and a reloading path that can reflect the hysteresis effect under cyclic loading of concrete are established, in which the adopted expressions for the loading and unloading characteristic points do not depend on the shape of the curve. The proposed model has a concise form that can be easily implemented and also shows strong generality and flexibility. Finally, the reliability and correctness of the model are verified by comparing the numerical results with the three-point bending beam test, cyclic loading test, and a seismic damage simulation of the Koyna gravity dam.  相似文献

Cement-based lightweight materials have received much attention recently in embankment backfill applications, the boundary of which is more close to a plane strain condition. To study the influence of plane strain condition on the behavior and void structure of cement-based lightweight material under cyclic loading, this paper conducted a series of compression tests on foamed cement pastes with densities of 700 and 900 kg/m3 subjected to static and cyclic loading under plane strain conditions. The X-CT technique was adopted to obtain the three-dimensional (3-D) void structures of the specimens before and after the loading tests. The results showed that the plane strain conditions yielded specimen compression strengths 30–50% higher than the unconfined conditions. The specimen integrity endured under load levels of less than 0.5, but failed after approximately 1000 cycles under a load level of 0.8, indicating that cyclic loading could accelerate the degradation of the specimena. The void structures of the specimens showed that the void volumes were featured bfatured an unimodal distribution with unimodal positions in a range of 0.1–0.2 mm3. The unimodal position became higher with the increasing cyclic load level. Slices of the specimens after static and cyclic loading tests suggested that cyclic load could easily lead to the rupture of voids that then merge into bigger voids and the connection of voids forming cracks.  相似文献

This paper aims to study the uniaxial bond stress–slip characteristics of reinforcing bars embedded in concrete with different strengths. Tests were conducted on tension–pull specimens that had a cross-sectional dimension with a reinforcing bar embedded in the center section. The experimental variable was the concrete compressive strength (20, 40, and 60 MPa). The test results show that in the specimen subjected to any fixed load, the maximum value of the concrete strain occurred around the central position, and its value increased as the compressive strength of the concrete increased. Depending on the embedded position of the steel bars, the bond stress–slip relationship was also different. In addition, the analytical results indicate that the proposed bond stress–slip constitutive relationship is very accurate in describing the true bond stress–slip relationship.  相似文献

Rock is the main construction material of rock engineering, such as the engineering of mines and tunnels; in addition, its mechanical properties and failure laws are of great significance to the stability evaluation of rock engineering, especially under the conditions of coupled static–static stresses. In this study, granite specimens were manufactured with artificial flaws. Coupled static and dynamic loads tests were carried out with a modified split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) apparatus; and six typical levels of axial pre-stresses and three crack inclination angles were designed. Three-dimensional digital image correlation (3D-DIC) was also applied to record and analyze the fracturing process and damage evolution of the specimens. The test results show that there was no compaction stage in the stress–strain curve under combined dynamic and static loading. The dynamic strength of the specimens increased first and then decreased with the increase in the static pressure; moreover, the specimens reached the maximum dynamic strength when the static pressure was 10% UCS. The dynamic strength decreased first and then increased with the increase in the crack inclination angle; and the lowest strength appeared when the inclination angle was 45°. The change in axial compression had a significant influence on the failure mode, and the failure mode gradually transformed from shear–tensile failure to shear failure with the increase in the pre-stress. The tensile strain was usually generated at the end of the fractures or near the rock bridge. When the axial pressure was small, the tensile strain zone parallel to the loading direction was easily generated; and when the axial pressure was large, a shear strain zone developed, extending along the diagonal direction. The research results can provide a theoretical reference for the correct understanding of the failure mechanisms of granite and its engineering stability under actual conditions.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of thermomechanical cycling (TMC) and type of abutment on the misfit and compressive strength of the implant–abutment interface. Forty 3.75-mm external hexagon implants with 25° angled abutments were divided into four groups (N = 10). Group A: overcast plus TMC; Group B: overcast without TMC; Group C: completely cast plus TMC; Group D: completely cast without TMC. Abutments were fixed to the implants with 32-Ncm torque, and groups A and C specimens were cyclically loaded at 80 N with 2 Hz for 1 million cycles. The misfit on the implant–abutment interface was evaluated by optical microscope (100×) and the compressive strength test was performed in a universal test machine. For statistical analysis, a two-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey test were used. There was no difference in misfit presented by all the abutments in the absence of TMC (p > 0.05). When TMC was performed, the completely cast abutments showed greater misfit than overcast ones (p = 0.001). Regarding compressive strength, irrespective of TMC performed, the overcast abutments showed higher compressive strength values than completely cast abutments (p = 0.003). Moreover, disregarding the type of abutment used, the absence of TMC provided higher compressive strength values (p < 0.001). It was concluded that thermomechanical cyclic loading aggravated the misfit, especially in completely cast abutments, regardless of material or fabrication technique, and reduced the compressive strength of the two types of abutments tested.  相似文献
